Hey does anyone know if there is a protection film set for the dv5t out there on the market? i know they have pre-cut ones for mac's and sony vaio's.

I just want to keep my dv5t nice and shinny plus not so many fingerprint marks (grrr) :)

I know that ZAGG doesnt have an invisible shield for it which I found to be strange... It's a popular laptop. You would have to mail in your laptop for them to custom make a skin.

I was wondering if the skins for the other HPs would work for the dv5 as the lid has the same general shape.

Yeah it is weird that they don't have it for the Dv5 but they have one for the dv7. Hopefully they will be coming out with one for the Dv5 soon.

I heard that there was one from "ezstick" but its from taiwan and the sites are all in chinese, and I cant read chinese so that sux.

That's right, you could see the following website http://store.pchome.com.tw/ezstick/M02904672.htm

It costs only $680 NTD = $22.67 USD around.

Please see the attached picture for my dv5t problem:

It's on the right bottom corner of my screen....I don't know how to call it. Is there anyone having the same problem? I don't know if it will get more and more off, so I may call for a replacement.......

The other question is the card reader...when I insert my sd card till the "click", dv5t doesn't seem to read my card. Anybody knows wut's wrong with it?

It's safe to keep it plugged in, but it will use up charge cycles on the battery. It will be pretty much a trickle on the charge cycles when it's plugged in, but you are still losing charge cycles. Check out the battery guide for details.

Just as an FYI, I used the laptop for about 5 hours last night and there was no flickering of any kind. I updated my video drivers from the HP website last night as well. Current version from the site is 7.15.11.7588 dated 6/9/08. Don't know if that was the fix or if it's just being normal again.

I will post back here if something changes.

Are you saying that it was flickering with some other driver then upgrading to this driver fixed the problem? This might be of some interest as there are several threads going on about flickering on the DV5T.

    I'm still on the 7.15.11.7588

It seems I can't get Blueray playback with any drivers from the laptop2go site, even the WHQL certified ones

I've used this place before, http://www.protectcovers.com/ and it looks like they have them for the dv5t specifically. They show the dv5t listed on the front page, but when you click on the HP link, it doesn't seem to be anywhere, but that doesn't mean they don't have it, I would call them and find out for sure, I think i paid $22 something for the cover I bought for my clevo 17" laptop, it wasn't custom made, but they do make custom covers for the more popular models. The DV5T skin for the keyboard is on sale for only 16.95, plus S&H. That's not too awful bad really.

Yeah, I was wondering about the batter life on that 12 cell as well. Also, does anyone know what, or maybe how close the estimated ship date they post at HP is? Mine says "Estimated to ship on October 20, 2008" does that mean it's to be at my house then, or that's when they ship it from HP er China, and then it'll be 2 days from that point?

hello guys, I am in the process of buying a dv5t, but am a little concerned about its performance. Mainly I am buying this pc for gaming and school. Primary game would be call of duty 4. For the people that own this computer with the 9600m gt, what performance do you guys see in cod4?

Well, I'm guessing either, they haven't updated the site, or something, but even if it were to come on Monday the 20th, wouldn't it already be in transit today, because of the weekend? So I would have a tracking number by now, right? Sorry, I'm just getting antsy, I've been without a laptop for almost a year now, and this waiting is terrible.

Well, the laptop is still doing it's flickering. Just now it had a few big black bands going horizontally across the bottom 1/4 of the screen, with about 4 small white horizontal lines going through the middle of that.

Then it went away and the screen looked washed out for a few seconds and then went back to normal.

I have World of Warcraft running, so the computer is a bit hot, but I'm not sure if it's necessarily a heat related issue because I saw it do it the other night when it was just sitting idle.

It's been fine the past few minutes now. Haven't done anything to it before or since the incident. EDIT: And now it is still flickering every so often... when I am in World of Warcraft, it stops the whole game while it's doing the flicker (all images pause, mouse doesn't move, etc.)

I talked to HP online yesterday and didn't get anywhere. The lady just said to update video drivers and see if it does it in safe mode. I seriously doubt it's a software problem personally.

EDIT AGAIN: The screen has gone to complete washout several times over the past 15 minutes. Also, it did it during the "HP - Invent" BIOS startup screen, so I know it's not a Windows issue. Something's definitely up with the hardware.

Well, I just talked to HP and went over some basic things.

They had me connect an external monitor and verify whether or not the problem was happening on that display as well as the laptop screen. It was only happening on the main screen, not the external monitor.

So I was told by the rep that "It clearly says that there is hardware malfuction with the display card of your Notebook. The issue at hand seems to be related to a physical hardware malfunction which would require a physical examination to analyse the issue."

So they are shipping me a box and I am shipping it to HP for repair. The thing is, it doesn't do it ALL the time... but once it starts it goes on for a while. So what happens if they get it and it never does it? Will they fix it anyway or will they just ship it back and say "It never did it, you're crazy." ???

Yup...you will get the standard unable to verify complaint response...But that is true of all electronics and cars. It all depends on the tech, if he wants to spend the time finding the problem.

I would enclose a note on top of the keyboard, explaining to the tech that gets the laptop that it doesn't happen "all" the time, and to be patient while trying to verify the problem, so they don't think you're crazy.

Yeah, it seems rather difficult to isolate what's causing it to go crazy (in terms of what I'm doing on the machine at the time). Seems to happen more with movies and games running -- but when it started flickering a bit ago, I took a video of it with my cell phone. The smaller you watch it the better it looks.

You can find it at http://www.jayal.net/dv5t_flicker.avi if you'd like to watch it. You can see about 1/4 of the way through it, that the screen completely washes out to white and then comes back.

You think that I can have this video on my desktop and have a note on the keyboard telling the HP tech to look at it?

Sounds like a good idea...all you can do is provide all the assistance you can. Although I'm wondering if its on the machine they may have trouble viewing it or they may cause your problem to surface by viewing it

It almost looks like you have a loose connection some where.

Yep, I think that is a great idea too. ((((((((uncming: they could copy the video off of his lappy and view it elsewhere.))))))))

Just a question.... can you make the screen flicker, by moving your lappy around or anything like that? I mean, does it flicker more if you like shake it? I could be a loose connection between the vid card and the board. Not sure what that would entail trying to fix that yourself... ie... taking a panel off of the back or would you have to remove the keyboard to get to the vid card. Just a suggestion. GLTY

    I just dont get it...

Folks I got a HP DV5-1007tx with a 512MB 9600GT GPU and a 2.53GHz C2D CPU. For some reason my notebook is lagging on some games that went flawlessly on my previous 256MB X1600.

Like it works fine for a minute and then it just starts to bog down before clearing back up.
My initial thought would be that "Oh, maybe the requirements are just to high". But that fact is I tried Company of Heroes and World in Conflict on my 2.5 year old iMac and it went flawlessly. And just note my imac had a 2.0GHz CPU and 256 GPU.

Whats the deal here? This is my first Windows-PC, so am I missing something here? Is game performance lower on a notebook? Or do I have a hardware issue here?

    Cheers,

PS: Is there any diagnostic check I could use to see if my video card works ok?

It will occasionally flicker or freeze up a bit if I move the screen, but it doesn't do it every time. It's more prone to do it when the issue has already started appearing. Such as, right now it's not doing anything out of the ordinary and moving the screen doesn't do anything either.

I am more than comfortable with fixing a problem myself, I just don't want to void the warranty.

You should try out the drivers at laptopvideo2go.com, the lagginess might be due to your drivers. I'm running Dox's customized Forceware 178.24; it's working better than any other drivers I've tried.

    Greetings

The DV4T has a 512mb nvidia 9200M GS option listed as a $150 upgrade. If this is a valid option (???) then I would expect it to be available for the DV5T shortly.

That's because it hits the sweet spot in terms is size/price/performance for a Win based machine. The downsides are the hideous bloatware, the mediocre battery life, MS OS, and warmish keyboard. That said, this machine runs like a bat out of Hell and has a big list of features for the price.

I'm seriously considering getting another DV5T. It's either that or one of the new Macbooks. I'd love to go Mac just to say FU to MS.

    regards

    Hey guys,

Got referred here from another HP thread.

There's a lot to read through so forgive my ignorance.

I was wondering which DV5T range comes with a 9600M GT that is DRR 3?

    Thanks

The 9600M GT is an option when having a custom DV5T built of the US market. If you are outside the US market you will have to consult your countries HP web site.

    DDR3 tutorial
Note: The DV5T does NOT support DDR3 mem.

    1. Two graphics cards in the same computer. So can I switch them while running the OS (Intel in 4500 and Nvida 8600)?
If i pick the 8600 do i also get the Intel?

    2. 12 cell battery sticking out?

So I know there's an extra mini-pci-express on the dv5t, but are there anything out in the market for it right now? I'd really love to find some kind of USEFUL hardware for it. Thanks.

NO! Only one GPU in the DV5T.

The new Apple MBP has this functionality. I also read somewhere that at least one of the Sony Vio's also has 2 GPU's.

    Help help Help

I got my DV5t on Oct 14 with config P8600, Nvidia 9200 and 4 gig ram.
I am facing problem with the video play. When i play any media file copied on my machine it shows movies in total faded colours, green lips, green hairs etc. It is the problem with both quick player and window media player. Same is the problem when i play any dvd in these players. I have downloaded zoom player the problems is same.

I tried uninstalling and installing Nivdia drivers but it did not help.
Tried calling HP care he started with downloading new drivers from the site and lot of other trouble shooting things but it did not help.

I can see the pic stored on my comp with properly so i do not think that it can be the problem hardware/graphic card.

    can you guys please help

    Regards,

    Amit
