That is interesting, I will certainly check to make sure the processor is correct. It claims it's a 2ghz w/ 800mhz bus, it doesn't seem like an easy mistake to make.
I looked it up on other websites, every korean website lists those same specs w/ the 5800T 2.0Ghz, so I think it's just that's how the model is in korea.

btw, does anyone have this problem: The screen resolution gets lowered after rebooting/restarting. For example, I have the monitor set at 1680 x 1050 resolution , but it gets lowered sometimes to 1280 x 800 after restarting the computer. It's not a big deal, but just wondering if anyone else has experience it.
-
My laptop came in this morning!!! But I'm at school....
-
bummer, school dude.
-
I have never experienced this without some form of an external influence i.e.:
Do you have multiple users? If so you could have a different desktop profile set up for another user.
Using software or playing a game that set the resolution lower, then when the laptop powered off the lower resolution was the default and prevailed when the notebook was powered on again. -
ugh.. I downloaded the HP drivers and it still says cannot find anything compatible..: (
-
at least i get the whole week of thanksgiving to play with it, and get dualboot working with Linux (still undecided which...Ubuntu/Fedora/any others)
-
I don't know if the problem with the first re-install was still part of the original Norton/Avast anti-virus software conflict or not, but when I re-installed the software, I got some very weird prompts, and it didn't install correctly, so I had to do it again. Ok the second time though.
-
AT LAST!!! I'm now posting from my new DV5T!!! All seems to be working perfectly, even the TV Tuner, it rocks! omg this notebook is awesome!
EDIT: Im so excited I forgot my actual point for this post... Does anybody know a firefox plugin to make the fingerprint reader work on it? -
@Undress
you don't need any plugin. the fingerprint software would do the trick. -
anyone know like the average temp a dv5t should be getting when playing games?

Does anyone have any tips on how to deal with HP when trying to get a credit for a price difference?
I ordered my dv5t a week ago and used a 30% coupon. Now that same configuration's base price (before coupons), with different deals, is about $50 less but there no longer is a 30% coupon. I called HP to try and argue that the base price for the same configuration is now cheaper, but they argued that I already got a good deal with the 30% coupon. Do I have to wait until a similar or better coupon is available to get a credit? Any tips?? -
timesquaredesi MagicPeople VooDooPeople
you can ask them to give you the $ back and if they dont, simply return your unit (before the 21 days) and reorder with the same specs.
whether or not resending + reordering another unit is worth $30 bucks of hassle or not is solely dependant on yourself. this is one option. -
I used the 30% discount that turned out to be about 25%.
-
Any info on when the new BIOS update that allows overclocking is coming out?
-
Good to hear you got this fixed. My dv5t has the same screen flicker problem (video at youtube dot com/watch?v=9RvPN3F54JY -- forum won't let me post an HTML link).
Did HP repair say which specific hardware components were faulty and were replaced? Also, what was the total turnaround time during which you were without your laptop?
Anyone else having this problem?
Thanks! -
I have the DV5T with Vista 64bit. Is there anyway to dual boot into a Vista 32 bit on the same machine? I tried and got some quick BSOD before it re-booted. It has no problem loading and running Ubuntu 32 bit. Any suggestions?
-
I know that some people have problems with the touch buttons, but i never really had a problem. Well just now my mute button starts to change back and forth rapidly and violently. This causes any sound coming out of my laptop to be extremely choppy. My first suspicion was either my OS or the drivers so i rebooted and the mute button start changing before i even get to the big HP logo before everything starts to boot up.
This is obviously not a driver issue. Is it possibly something to do with the bios?
Please help

i recieved my hp dv5t on friday 11/21 and i was noticing weird things from my video card, it was just odd, like some things looked pixelated and other things looked very clear, so i called up HP customer support and the guy tried to fix it over the phone but nothing worked so in the end he gave me the greatest deal... they would let me return my dv5t and send my a new upgraded one for no extra cost!!!
my original config --> Free upgrades
P8400 @ 2.26 GHz --> P8600 @2.4 GHz
3GB RAM Menory --> 4GB RAM Memory
NVIDIA 9200M GS --> NVIDIA 9600M GT
if i were to upgrade those through hp.com manually it would be $275
and they threw in free two business day shipping (worth $50 more) because of all the trouble!
Thank You HP!!!! -

^^^ sweet! i have not heard of any other companies doing such things on warranty work. so props to HP. i feel that their 'customer is always right' mentality will eventually give them customer retention at a better rate that their competitors.
i've been an hp customer since 03 or so. i've only bought a few systems from them, but still, they're rock and their prices are unbeatable. -
yea i still cant believe i got a good deal like that
and i only payed $930 for all of that....
not even on black friday!! -
Hello
I've got a problem with my HP dv5 laptop and GeForce 9600 m GT graphic card. When I'm using HDMI interface, on the TV there is a terrible screen tearing. I' ve installed the newest drivers from laptopvideo2go.com and the problem is slightly less visible than with originally instaled drivers. When I'm watching some HD movies in .mkv format, screen tearing is almost invisible, but with games like Gears of War and most movies this issue is horrible. I connected my laptop to 1080p Sharp LCD TV and 23' Samsung HD ready LCD TV, and on both TVs problem was the same. The HDMI cable is very good, I use it with my PS3 and X360 and I didn't notice any problems like this. I've tried to change a lot of graphic card settnigs, and it didn't solve the problem, so I don't know what's wrong. My Vista is 32 bit Home Premium.
I would be very grateful for helping me to solve my problem. -

i also plan on undervolting to keep the laptop cooler so it doesnt overheat...
so will this be able to handle crysis or any of the newest games(fallout 3, far cry 2, ut3, etc.)? -
it should be able to handle the newest games on medium-highish settings. But you might want to upgrade to 64 bit Vista, if your getting 4gb of RAM
-
i would switch to 64bit but im not really sure what the difference is in performance/quality and whether all of my other peripherals and programs will work with it
-
Hp just changed there promo to free 4gb ram and 250gb hdd from 3gb and 320gb. Now I gotta return my dv5t tomorrow to costco cuz it already shipped, should arrive tomorrrow >.> they just wouldn't give me a price difference, kinda want 4 gb of ram for a lesser price. Guess good things come to those who are patient. Gonna have to wait another week and a half for it probably if it doesn't get delayed somehow.

Anybody know how to disable the underclocking of the GPU on battery? Games run like crap unplugged, can't find the option.
-
What's your power setting for battery? It you just click the battery icon in the system tray it should tell you.
It puts performance down by default when on battery, just swtich it from power saver to performance or make your own custom plan. You wouldn't be able to play for that long though of course. -
On battery I'm still set to "high performance".
edit: you're talking about the battery tray icon for general notebook power, right? -
Darth Bane Dark Lord of the Sith
You need to disable powermizer either through the registry or the Powerswitch program found here- http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=273276 -
Awesome, thanks.
Now has anybody figured out how to overclock?
-
we can't custom build our dv5's up here in canada but i just got a dv5-1174ca. i think i'm having a problem with it though. it supposedly has 4gb of ddr2 800 memory on a 64 bit version of vista but when i run the WEIndex i'm only getting a score of 4.8 for the memory. i'm pretty sure it should be maxed out or at least close to it so i don't really know what's going on. any thoughts?
link for the computer is below.

I guess I've now joined all of you who have had so many problems that you had to exchange your systems. I'm there.
I had huge problems when I first got my dv5t, and I'm the one who had to do 2 re-installs. I thought I was okay until a week or so ago, when all of a sudden I had a whole new bunch of problems -- they all seemed weird and unrelated -- but the last couple of crashes sent me over the edge. I found out some interesting good news though while talking with the return department. We now have until January 15th to return our laptops, because of the holidays. That sure helps me, cause I just ordered a new one, and I can keep my old one till the new one comes, because of the extra time period. Can't believe there's no coupons out right now though.

hi my friend i want to know that how is hp dv5 1135 and i want to buy it please let me know is it good to buy or if it isn't please let me what should i do
-
I think the dv5t is a beautiful laptop, with some great features. Better than most, for the money. However, maybe because it's still a new model, it has some real problems. If you read through the pages of this thread and the HP/Compac thread, you'll see that a lot of people have issues with this model. Having said all that, even though I too have had tremendous numbers of problems with my dv5t over the 2 weeks that I've owned it, I love it, and will be replacing my faulty dv5t with another one!
I just hope I won't be unlucky twice.
-
Inperfect1, what problems have you had? I'm an inch(or amazing deal) away from pulling the trigger on a dv5t. Thanks
-
I'm not Inperfect1, but personally, I've had no problems with the dv5t. Hibernate/Sleep both work great, wireless works great, 12-cell battery is awesome cause it lasts longer and lifts the back of the notebook for better cooling. And Linux works well with it (except for fingerprinting...but i haven't looked for stuff for that yet, and the mute button doesn't change color). I love mine and couldn't be happier with it!
-
I got my computer about 2 months ago. I think that the graphics driver is beginning to fail because of heat. Sometimes when i play games the graphics driver either fails or the screen begins to pixelate. This is the main problem with my comp. Im going to send it out to hp to get it repaired.
Another problem is the volume buttons. I think hp hasnt gotten the drivers for them straightened out but overall its not a big problem. The graphics card is a much bigger issue. I would say that its an awesome laptop if these two problems were corrected.
Also i have a question about the 12 cell. How much did it cost and did you buy it with your laptop? Mine has a pretty short battery life. When i got my laptop there wasnt a 12 cell available yet. Now i see it cost $150+. I really dont feel like shelling out that much money for it. -
I'm not sure what the differences are between the DV5T and the DV5-1109TX Special Edition series are, but my white one is beautiful and has been running great so far. The fan does get loud playing Mass Effect or Fallout 3 for a couple of hours (which is pretty awesome that the laptop can play well, coming from a x3100 btw) , but it doesn't really get more than warm on the hand rest. My only issue so far has been the battery hatch on the remote control being broken so it doesn't close (quite cheaply made plastic) but I live near a HP service center so I can drop by after work sometime.

Greets
I purchased a coolermaster R9 notebook cooler about two weeks ago.
amazon order link
This little notebook cooler is pretty effective and not very noisy. It plugs into the USB port and drives the cores and GPU (on my DV5T) down to the mid 40's when doing semi-intensive processing. This is about 10 degrees cooler than without the cooler. Note: This cooler is pretty small: Covers the back half of the notebook. At first I was a bit perplexed at how small it was .............. but this little pup performs well.
cheers

What's up with the super cheesy Hp coupon for Black Friday?

Hi Pnanasnoic, (Great name! What does it mean?)
Take a look at my post #4215 on Nov 19th. After that batch of problems I thought I was out of the woods, but I’ve had a tough week since then with this dv5t. All of a sudden I started having problems again with the touch pad, mouse buttons, fingerprint reader, sleep mode, and then had several complete crashes. Not to mention weird error messages and miscellaneous software issues. I’m really hoping that this machine is a lemon, and that my next one is fine. The build date is Dec 4th, so I’ll know in a couple of weeks – and meanwhile, they’re letting me keep my old one until the new one arrives.
By the way, what amazing deal are you getting? -
can anyone give me a guidelink to turning off the fan. My fan is on like all the time and sometimes i feel like it don't even really need to be on so can someone tell me how to turn it off. (or set it to a setting where it'll only come on when it needs too)? Thanks
Btw Is this normal how the fan is constantly running? -
Download HWmonitor and check your temperatures. if your CPU is above 50 C it's going to be on. Above 60C and it's going to be on higher.
