around the daemon tools icon its pixelated and not round like it should be
in the network sharing center(vista) the drop down menu buttons are not completey circular, it should be a circle but it looks like it has spikes on it or something.
i had this same problem before on another dv5t but with 9200m instead of the 9600m.
i am using the 180.70 vista 32bit modded drivers from laptopvideo2go.com
can anyone help?
Edit: I actually found the problem, it was my DPI settings i guess it was just stretching the images too much but i adjusted it and everything looks great now
thanks for your help anywayAttached Files:

Very nice laptop for the money.
-
Just bought a dv5t and plan to install clean vista.
I downloaded all drivers from HP and noticed that there are two softwares: HP Quicktouch and HP Quick Launch Buttons. what are the difference? do I need to install both? -
anyone know how to disable wifi and bluetooth independently?
-
i'm pretty sure they are in the same card, and they turn on and off at the same time.
-
I just ordered two of these. They came out to $766 for both of them. HP had a $300 instant rebate and the extra hard disk/memory offer, and Microsoft offered 40 percent cashback on Black Friday. I didn't get as many features as most of you guys - I went with a slower, 2 GHz processor and Intel video. But for $383, the dv5t seems like a good notebook:

Quick question for all the other clumsy DV5T owners. I spilled about 10 drops of lemonade on my keyboard yesterday and now 3 keys have started to stick. I was wondering is anyone else had any luck with popping off the keys, or if it is even possible.
-
i think if you search the thread you will find stories of the same. i feel for you.
sticky keys are not fun. call HP and ask them if there is a certain way to pop off the keys. i'm pretty sure they come off, just not sure how to do it.
-
You're getting a 3.3 because WEI uses the lowest number for its overall score and the geforce 9200 is a low-end card (although still good) so it has a lower score.
-
I don't think so. I watched HP video and it showed bluetooth module is located on the top and wifi is located at the bottom.
can someone confirm that wifi and bluetooth are two separate modules and work independently? even though there is only one touch button to turn both off. -
HP has a wireless assistant utility which does exactly what you are looking for. It should be pre-installed if you are using the stock Windows installation or should be available for download from HP's website.
-
Should I get a warranty for the laptop? It costs $150 for the 3 year warranty from SquareTrade. I plan on using it mostly at college when I start next fall.

Has anyone with a 9200m tried the new bios that was released on the 21st?

" Enhancements: Updates the NVIDIA GeForce 9200M GS Video BIOS to version 62.98.3F.00.07." -
anyone here purchased one of the limited edition "White" DV5t?
-
I'm looking to upgrade the HD to a Western Digital 320gb 7200 drive (WD3200BEKT) Anyone know if it is supported by HP's ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection?
-
I would have thought the WEI with 9200 graphics would be better than with the Intel 4500, I get a WEI of 3.7 (my dv5-1007ca with P8400: Processor 5.2, RAM 5.8, Graphics 4.1, Gaming Graphics 3.7, Primary Hard Disk 5.2)
-
yea i get 4.8 for gaming graphics with my 9600m gt...i thought the 9600m gt was a pretty powerful card so i dont know why it's my lowest score.
-
Update to the latest drivers and you will get a 5.0
-
im currently using 177.98 from laptopvideo2go.com
so the newest driver (180.84) should fix this?
Edit: 180.84 does not have a mod yet so i tried 180.70 and it still is 4.8 for graphics. -
Yes, it's hawt.
-
if you could, how bout some pics of the white model. Curious to see how it looks in real world photos
-
on the 180.84 my gaming perf is now 5.3
I will post some photos later of the laptop, if I don't forget -
This is lame but good at the same time, my laptop finally came in >.> but I have finals all week and it's at my parent's house, so I won't see it till my finals are done... I so can't wait >.<
-
Wow, it luks slick, congrats for getting it.
-
Worked, thanks!
-
Is this some kind of a special edition laptop?
Does it come with the 9600M GT? -

Oh man... I finally read EVERY POST XD.. (I cant stand when people post without reading whats been posted already) anyways my DV5T Should be here within the next week (Its a free replacement laptop because they scratched my DV6500z and didnt fix it the 4 times i sent it in.. I havent recieved an order number or shipment tracking number in email tho so i'm going to call my case manager tomorrow and try to get one.. Here are my specs
Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1 (32-bit)
Intel Core 2 Duo Processor P8600 (2.4 GHz)
15.4" WSXGA+ High-Definition HP BrightView Infinity Display (1680 x 1050)
3GB DDR2 System Memory
512MB NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT
250GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
Webcam + Fingerprint Reader
HP Color Matching Keyboard
Wireless-G Card with Bluetooth
No Modem
LightScribe SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-RW with Double Layer Support
HP Integrated HDTV Hybrid Tuner
12 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
It might not have blu ray, Wifi N or the 2.53ghz processor BUT im happy with it.. its a BIG upgrade from my current laptop and since its free I cant argue with that (If they would have let me I would have payed for Blu Ray atleast)
(I will also probably buy a wireless N Card on ebay and pop it in.)
I have a few questions tho.
1. If I upgrade to wireless N will I still have my bluetooth? or is that integrated into the wireless G chip? (I believe they are separate hardware but wanted to make sure)
2. I have a suggestion for clean install.. if anyone wants to try it please post to me with the results (I havent tried it yet)
Clean Install:
I was talking with my HP Case Manager about how he deals with crapware on the machines.. he said he actually uses the recovery discs and then pops them out half way thru the process "Right when It says now installing HP software" and that it has actually finished installing the OS at this point but none of the drivers or crapware.. then he says to restart the computer and Windows will work. it seems to be a little tricky to me (not hard just could go very wrong) but he says it worked and i made sure I was understanding him correctly.. Now I havent tried it yet (and dont know if i actually will) because my laptop isnt here yet. but i figured I would throw it out there to everyone.

That's pretty sick looking......reminds me of my lil brother's MacBook.....only better!
-
How can i get my WEI graphics score higher than 4.8 for the 9600gt?
I am using the 180.70 modded drivers from laptopvideo2go.com. -

Try overclocking the 2D graphics on the 9600M GT here are two forums that discuss how to.... Well I would post them but "You are only allowed to post URLs to other sites after you have made 15 posts or more"
I suggest a quick google search of "9600M GT overclock" and open these two links
9600M GT Overclocking :O
HP DV5T 9600M GT Overclocking Guide - Notebook Forums and Laptop
That should help raise your WEI score. depending on how far the card will overclock you could prob gain 5-6 points on aero graphics in WEI -
Eason, thanks alot for taking some pics! I think you're probably the first person in the cyberworld to post pics of the special edition DV5t!
the white color reminds me of Fujitsu notebooks
-
i dont really know if overclocking is safe considering this laptop gets pretty hot as it is...i have tried undervolting and my max multiplier only went down about .09V...
so has anyone tried anything like overclocking or certain drivers and have proved it works and have gotten their WEI graphics score above 4.8 with 9600m gt? -
I have a large screen LCD TV in my living room that has HDMI inputs. Its native resolution is 1920x1080.
I connected my girlfriends DV5-1133 to it and it only displayed a 1280x800 image on it. It looks tiny on the big screen.
I tried changing the video/display settings in Windows to make the display larger, but I wasn't able to.
The laptop spec sheet says "NVIDIA GeForce 9200M GS NB9M-GE with up to 2047MB total graphics memory with 256MB dedicated"
How do I make this video card output a full sized image on my LCD ?
I tried searching for this topic in the thread and I couldn't find anything. Sorry if I missed it. -

A lot of people are overclocking the card in this laptop now and there havent been any known issues to my knowledge. also the standard 2D isnt going to create a lot of heat its the 3D graphics (which are used durring gaming) that produce large amounts of heat. BUT overclocking is your own choice and if you dont feel comfortable with it than I dont recommend doing it. if you do do it make sure the GPU stays below 90*C (it can last a little over 100*C but just incase it ever gets hotter than normal in the future i recommend staying below 90

Also if you everclock you should use a laptop cooler!

I went ahead and purchased one of these laptops (sadly after all their nice deals ended). Does anyone know where to purchase a keyboard cover for this laptop, and possible a screen cover (that would cover the infinity glass)- ideally not from ebay? Thanks in advance!
On the side, I'm going from OS X back to windows with this purchase and have downloaded a bunch of anti-spyware, anti-malware, antivirus, and firewall programs in anticipation for this laptop. It was quite depressing
And Eason,
those designs on the touchpad look very ugly- I guess without them, it would just be a complete macbook lookalike
-
All you need is Avira Antivirus, and Diskeeper to keep things running smooth. I agree that without the gradient designs, it would look like a IceBook, but I think it looks better.
Yes, it does. -
Hrm- I've never heard of Diskeeper before. Is it really good? So far I've downloaded Comodo firewall, sophos antivirus (free from college), hijack this, malware blaster, spybot search and destroy, spyware blaster, ccleaner, asquared, and comodo bo. Probably overkill to others, but after my last PC went under, there is no such thing as too much protection to me

Does any1 know how to get max speed from your 9600 when your on battery? Iam on high performance Btw and the clock speed always stays at 169core 100 mem any1 know how to fix this?

Does anyone have a reason why my cousin's laptop was in Alaska yesterday and today it was in Tennessee? He lives in Cali.
-
I'm about to pull the trigger on a HP dv5t loaded up, it will be my MacBook Pro Replcement. Loaded up means with the T9400, Bllu Ray and the 400 gb drive. Of course, also wireless N and BT. I can get it for $1980, now THAT INCLUDES HP's 3 Yr Accidental Damage Coverage, which alone is $350 or so. This price is with a teachers (APP) discount. Now, I am still looking at about $400-$500 less then the MacBook Pro, and even more if you consider Apple does not have an Accidental Damage Warranty, just AppleCare. All that Apple has then is a extension of the manufactures warranty that you pay for, and nothing more. Last time my kids dropped my PowerBook, cracking the screen, and I got nothing from AppleCare despite having the coverage. But besides being cheaper then MacBook Pro, I will also be getting what I think is a better screen, the Blu Ray and at least comparable graphics. I see this as giving me a laptop that should last for awhile, be fairly decent with gaming and with enough power for video editing. By the way, I also considered the Dell XPS, but it's way overpriced for outdated technology )but the notebook does look very sharp still).
-
anyone know how to get the WEI Aero Graphics score with the NVIDIA 9600m gt higher than 4.8?
I am using Dox's Custom Drivers 180.70. -
Yes, it's an automatic disk defrag program that does wonders for performance.
Honestly, all that software running in the background is going to make your computer run worse, it's counterproductive. The best software is light and does the job, avira antivirus, with an autoupdate and full scan every 4am, and that's it. Just use firefox, don't download random without a virus scan, and use secure network settings. -
Overclock. I am now at 5.7 for desktop graphics and for 5.4 gaming.
-
what are the best free programs for computer maintenence?
-
I just looked up Diskeeper and it looks like you have to purchase it (can download free 30 day trial). I'm fine just leaving the windows disk defrag program on overnight- is this program really worth the extra cost?
And does anyone have any opinion on a good keyboard cover for this laptop? The best I could find was a generic, flat piece of silicone for a ridiculous $10?
and cumbaya19, try forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=206289 and forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=190538 (can't post links yet so just add the http)
