Eason what did you set your clocks to?And would you say your laptop is hotter at all when its idle compared to before the overclock? or would you say its about the same?

Windows defrag is not very efficient, Diskeeper is definitely worth the money... or worth the free (but illegal) torrent download
580 core / 1280 shader / 486 memory
CPU is at 55C while using firefox, watching the Daily show in another tab.
GPU is idling at 62*, it went to 80 during 3dmark. I'll see what the temp is playing mass effect tonight if I have time. -

Btw idk who here reads the 9600M GT overclocking forum but on that forum someone named "Saxation" got 6007 point in 3dMark (its the highest ive found on 3 diffrent forums so far.) heres the clocks he used 650 | 1600 | 565
-
I'm betting he's using the DDR3 version. None of my programs even allow the shader to go above 1300. I tried 600/1300/500 but my display adapter crashed and reset. It's been stable (though I haven't actually been able to play games yet since I'm at work) at 3dmark at least at my current clocks.

Successfully Overclocked! I got 6016 3DMark06 with 650 GPU|1600 Shader|565 Memory.
Previously I got 4577 3DMark06 before overclocking. Impressive improvements.. And my temp was 67C (I use Zalman NC2000 Cooler)

To allow rivatuner to overclock higher follow these directions
"Go to Rivatuner -> Power User -> Rivatuner \ Overclocking \ Global
click on Maxclocklimit, press enter and type in 100.
click on Minclocklimit, press enter and type in 100."
Thanks to all the people who supplied all the info i've restated
-
Awesome, thanks. I will push my shaders up higher but I'm not sure about the Core/ memory... Which would cause the error of a display adapter restart w/ corrupted GUI graphics (ugly blocks everywhere)? Is that memory or core?
edit: looks like setting my memory above 486 gets me immediate display artifacts. Will try putting the core a little higher.
600/ 1550 / 478
4982 3dmarks! I had a bunch of stuff open, I think if I closed the Colbert Report I'd break 5k!
Temperatures peaked at 78*.
-
Cammeron Johnson Notebook Consultant
Sweet. By the way what driver are you using and do you use any kind of cooler? and what resolution are you testing at? im guessing 1280X1024 and yeah you prob could break 5k by closing it and if that didnt work im sure you could tweak slightly the overclock just a tiny bit more for that 18 points
I just cant wait until mine gets here so I can clean install and start overclocking. (should be here tomorrow.. im calling my HP case manager in the morning to figure out for sure)... it was a free replacement/upgrade so i dont have an order/tracking number. but its been a little over two weeks (i ordered on the 28th) anyways hope the best on the 5k
Everyone: Sorry about the large number of multiple posts
Edit: I was wrong it hasnt been two weeks.. I wasnt thinking when i looked at windows calender (Darn Faded Numbers) -
I'm using 180.84, unmodified except for.inf. No kind of cooler, nor do I raise it, though I undervolted my laptop to run cooler (1.250 to 1.050v.) Running at 1280 x 800, it's a WS laptop.
-
Cammeron Johnson Notebook Consultant
This might sound retarded and I feel I should know since ive read every page in this forum but whats a "WS Laptop"
-
haha, widescreen, WXGA = 1280 x 800
edit: 5091! -
i'm sorry but can someone tell me how to overclock? i'm trying but it just gets reset even after going into power user and changing the values. what am i missing?
-
Did you apply the .5F bios update? I linked it a couple pages ago. You should also disable the powermizer.
-
how do i disable powermizer, i installed a new bios a couple months ago, ill try the one you posted. im running the newest driver for laptopvideo2go.com by the way.
-
hello,
here is a place i've used before. http://www.protectcovers.com/ they aren't very expensive, and they say on the website they cover this model. -
FYI I had to down clock from 650 core to 600 because Left 4 Dead / Source Engine games are sensitive to OC'ing and I got a crash. Mass Effect was fine at 650 but source is too picky.

By The Way Congrats Eason on the 5k!
If you still want that 5k (assuming that downclock on the core took it away)

"Using nVidia drivers 179.04 I got 6007 with 3Dmark06 at 650 | 1600 | 565..." -saxation
Using 179.04 got him a gain of 70pts at same clocks and you only need 18? Just figured id throw it out there.
(I'm on 4 different forums and I've read every page of them all.. I've got lots of info I don't need yet XD )
Note: Just talked to HP Case Manager.. He doesnt have Tracking number yet.. He says to check back Wednesday with him and he might have one. So i'm guessing delivery on either Friday or Monday... Man this is driving me nuts... I need patience NOW! aha -
Hmm... when I go to their list of hp laptops, I don't see dv5t there. Is there anywhere on that site in particular where you are seeing this model? I sent them an email to check if they cover this model as well this morning but have not heard back yet. Thanks

Blackfridaywaslame go to hp then click laptops and tablets (under home and home office) then click versatile performance... Btw I loved black friday got my DV5T for free!
-
I've noticed that after OC'ing, when I put the computer to sleep on AC, then remove the adapter, it crashes on wake, the wireless stays red and the screen never comes on, though there's disk activity. Putting the computer to sleep/waking works fine on AC and DC as long as I don't change the power source. I'm not sure what is causing this, since powermizer is turned off on both AC/DC, and my performance mode is the same for both modes.
-
Oh I meant I couldn't find the keyboard cover for the dv5t model on your keyboard protector website that you linked, not hp.com itself.
And dv5t for free??? How??? I only knew of the 40% cb live offer (I clicked for hours for nothing

Eason - Odd that is interesting I will test that when I get my laptop and see if it happens for me too. Have you changed your clocks at all? If so what were they when it happened?
Blackfridaywaslame - HP Scratched my laptop screen and lid when it was in for repairs (Dv6500z - 2.0ghz AMD Turion dual core X2 64, 2GB Ram, 120GB HDD, 8400M GS, 1280X800 WXGA, Fingerprint reader, Webcam, 12 Cell Battery.) (Great Laptop BTW) anyways I sent it in to have the scratches repaired (they said they would) 3 times and they didnt so my HP Case Manager (Dominic Peck... Awesome Guy helped me a lot) Anyways Dominic did everything he could for me and after it came back scratched again offered me a free customized DV5T and let me upgrade it however i wanted to an extent.. Got it upgraded pretty well... Im real happy because its worth a little over twice what i bought the dv6500z for a year ago. The new laptops specs are in my signature.
Also does anyone know if I can upgrade the G card to N (I found the Intel 5100 on Ebay for about 20$) would it just swap out with the G?
Btw I hated not being able to post URLs i was so tempted to post a bunch of random posts till I had 15.
And also I couldnt find the HP DV5t either I saw it posted on the front page but couldnt find any kind of info or puchase page. -
Cammeron I got an email response back from protectcovers and it turns out they do have a custom cover that covers the entire bottom half of the notebook. Thanks!
-
Cameron, the problem is reproduced easilly, it always happens when I change the power source. My clocks are still at 600 / 1550 / 486, idle temp at 48 degrees. Any particular reason I shouldn't kick the shader clock up to 1600?
-
Cammeron Johnson Notebook Consultant
Eason - Most people i've seen have it at 1550 but a lot have it at 1600. 50 points more wont destroy your card... maybe crash your display driver when benchmarking but thats nothing serious it will simply restart (im sure this has prob happened to you at some point)
-
Cammeron Johnson Notebook Consultant
blackfridaywaslame - Can you forward me that email? ([email protected]) and also by bottom do you mean bottom like keyboard palm rest and quicktouch buttons and possibly the underside? or is it just one or the other? Also did they say if it fits laptops with the fingerprint reader? Thanks
Side note - by the way blackfridaywaslame I have to be honest with you I wasnt the one that suggested protect covers that was -Ten Speed- on page 442. Thanks tho.
-
Forwarding (subject is "Fwd: When you were offline (via LivePerson)" just so you know its not random spam). I'm hoping this cover is like the one shown in the image when you click on the "Laptop covers" link on the left hand column
-
Blackfridaywaslame.... if you go to www.protectcovers.com and about half way down on the left, you will see the link to the hp covers. the DV5T is the first one listed. it's not a link, and when you do click on the HP link it will take you to the HP page, now, i don't see it listed on that page myself either. I would do what you did, and email them. i'm sure they carry it, or it wouldn't be listed.
Thanks. -
Do you guys think exchanging my dv5t for another one with a 12cell instead of a 6cell is worth it? As in waiting another week or so for it to deliver and stuff?
-
Cammeron Johnson Notebook Consultant
jkimm8 - Info Please? The DV5T you purchased may be 100$ more expensive now which would make the wise choice just to buy the battery (thats just an example of why we need more info) Also if you end up just purchasing the battery off the accessories site they have a 15% off coupon going right now on accessories (I would post it but my HP Coupons site wont come up right now) anyways yea I would appreciate some specs and purchase cost plus any coupon values (if you used any) Thanks!
blackfridaywaslame - Thanks for the forward and asking if it was removeable was a good question

Everyone - I purchased my laptop with a wifi G + Bluetooth card I am thinking about purchasing the Wifi N card I have two questions on this matter.
1. If i swap the cards will the new Intel 5100 Wireless N Card work in my machine?
(Its the card that it would have come with so im assuming yes unless it requires)
(a different antenna connection or something of the sort.)
2. Will my bluetooth still work? Is it built into the Wireless G Card? Or is it totally seperate?
(Do I need to buy an N card labeled with bluetooth and if so where can i buy it) -
Haha alright, here are the specs
- HP Pavilion dv5t Entertainment Notebook
- Onyx
- Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1 (64-bit)
- Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor P8600 (2.4 GHz)
- 15.4" diagonal WXGA High-Definition HP BrightView Widescreen Display (1280 x 800)
- FREE Upgrade to 4GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
- 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT
- FREE Upgrade to 250GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
- Webcam Only
- HP Color Matching Keyboard
- Wireless-G Card
- No Modem
- SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-R/RW with Double Layer Support
- No TV Tuner w/remote control
- 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
- Microsoft(R) Works 9.0
- Norton Internet Security(TM) 2008 - 15 Month Subscription
- HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope
All this with the $150 Rebate and $30 Coupon, came out to be $1073.99 (without tax).
I was thinking of exchanging this for the same model, but without the 15month subscription to Norton and the 12cell instead of the 6cell. But I'm not so sure if i'll have the same specs unless I call HP, since i ordered this laptop during black friday. Do you think it'd be worth the exchange ASSUMING that i get the same specs? Or should I just stick with what i have? -
Cammeron Johnson Notebook Consultant
Well I "customized" the laptop config exactly the same except I gave you the 12 cell and no norton. After the 150+30=$180 off it comes to $1,148
Here is the 12Cell off of HP's site ( http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/s...ze&v1=12-cell&product_code=KS526AA&catLevel=2 )
Here is a 15% off coupon ( AC5649 ) good for all accessories I believe
And Here is a $10 Off coupon ( SV9044 )
Now im not sure if the 15% is stackable but I know the $10 is
The 15% will get you roughly $16 off
The battery is $109-$16= $93
Now both totals. 1074+93=1167 (This would be keeping your current laptop and just buying the 12 cell) Remember if you do this you get to keep the 12 cell and the 6 and i believe this 12 cell can charge while you use the 6 (notice the cord adapter on the side)
1148-93=1055 (This would be returning your notebook for a new one with 12 cell)
Summary: Returning the notebook would be 12$ cheaper but it would take time and you wouldnt get to keep the six cell that you could use while the 12 cell charged. (AKA no bother with a cord) But remember you cant charge the 6 cell without it being in the laptop!
I recommend just buying the 12 Cell Battery and Keeping your current notebook
-
wow
thanks for all that work ahah
i really appreciate it!
and now all i have to do is wait for the Clearance Delay in Alaska to be cleared already!!! -
Cammeron Johnson Notebook Consultant
Ahah no problem. Honestly it's got me considering buying a new 12 Cell later on so that I can charge one while I use the other (My laptops in my lap a lot and i always feel like im gonna ruin the AC Adapter Socket.)
But yeah I got up at 5 AM to jog this morning and ive been looking for something to do since then so that occupied me for just a little bit aha
btw what do you mean clearance delay?
(Anybody know if the 12 cell that comes with the DV5t is the same as the one i linked above?) -
Well my Order shipped from Shanghai China on Dec. 6th with FedEx, but it's been stuck in Alaska because of a "Clearance Delay." Basically, it has something to do with getting the Paperwork all cleared and making sure it's legal and whatnot since it's coming from across waters.

Cammeron Johnson Notebook Consultant
Oh you haven't received it yet I see. I figured you had just gotten it and weren't happy with the battery life aha. I haven't received mine either.. could be here Friday, Monday, or Tuesday (since the HP rep ordered it as a warranty replacement for my dv6500z I don't get to have an order number or tracking number since it was ordered using an internal HP account).. But he said if I called back Wednesday that he might be able to get me a tracking number because it "should ship by then" so i'm giving it till Tuesday to be here... man I have no patience XD.

does anybody else have/had a dv6000 here? How would the screen compare to the dv5t? I have a dv6500z and i want to know if the dv5t screen is better (brighter more vibrant colors/deeper colors etc) than the dv6000 or pretty much the same
-
You can use coupon code SV2132 to get $30 off instead of the 15% off code which only saves you $16. The SV2132 code is good for $30 off a purchase of $150. It still works even though the instant rebate of $60 brings the price of the battery below $150. I just ordered the 12 cell for $86.59.
-

Wow awesome! cant believe it works... now i want that 12 cell even more!
... Still did anyone purchase the 12 cell with there laptop? does it have the ac adapter port in the side? -

I know generally its considered unsafe to overclock the cpu in a laptop but hey its unsafe to overclock the GPU too SO anyone tried overclocking there cpu? and has anyone been able to get the P7350 2.O To the P8400 2.26?
or the P8400 2.26 to the P8600 2.4... or the P8600 2.4 to the 2.53 value of the T9400 (heres my list)
P7350 2.0Ghz to P8400 2.26Ghz
P8400 2.26Ghz to P8600 2.4Ghz
P8600 2.4Ghz to T9400 2.53Ghz
After that has anyone benchmarked them?
Btw before someone mentions it I know the Clock speed isnt all that matters and that the T9400 has a 6mb cache while the others are 3mb.
(Btw you can use Ntune to overclock the CPU but it restores after every restart)
Ntune Download ---> http://www.nvidia.com/object/ntune_5.05.54.00.html -
Cammeron why are you trying to tempt me into breaking my laptop?
-
Cammeron Johnson Notebook Consultant
It's not my fault! Like i've said before I just have to hit that potential! aha
but uhm? Do it
Overclock the cpu! you know you want to! Besides i'd do it myself but I dont have my laptop yet D= so I have to get people to do my dirty work for me
if I had my laptop id be sitting here bragging for doing it first before everyone else
(If anyone does do it watch your temps! the cooling system is moving heat from both the cpu and gpu so remember they both effect eachother to some extent even if its small!
(Do this at your own risk)
Also I have to go to a mock trial for civics (We The People) I will be back later. Anyone who wants feel free to PM me -
I don't think I'll even try OC'ing the processor right now. I undervolted it, oc'd the GPU, and I don't use a cooler or even raise the laptop up. I don't want to do anything that will shorten the life of my lappy at this moment, but later, if some new games start to run slowly, I might OC my weak little T5800 ...
-
any body tried gta 4 in hp dv 5t , how is the perfomance in our dv5t,
-
How do you get the included remote to work?
-
I just bought a new DV5-1155ee (specs in sig)
I don't like the clarity of the screen compared to my earlier SONY SZ - Premium
One more question, will my laptop support DDR3? It only comes with 4 GB of DDR2 RAM
Performance wise, I am very happy with it
