Eason - Prob the smart move (even tho I hate to admit it) but hey don't underestimate your T5800 it gets a respectable 1060 points on CPU Benchmark and its on the "High End CPU" list on cpu benchmark![]()

Interestingly, my T5800 is named as a T7250 in CPU-z, though the core is identified as a T5800 in every other program. I've noticed that spec-wise, they're identical actually. Is this why the T5800 is so illusive, it's actually a T7250?
-
Cammeron Johnson Notebook Consultant
That is interesting i'm gonna look into that I will tell you if I find anything
The T5800 Scores 57 points more on CPU Benchmark.. that still seems weird to me.. maybe one of them has a larger cache or something to that effect?.. Im sure CPU Benchmark has some margin of error also tho I mean even 3dMark has a slight change during each test
T7250 2 MB L2 2 GHz 800 MHz FSB 35W - 65nm
T5800 2 MB L2 2 GHz 800 MHz FSB 35W - 65nm (35w 65nm is guessed)

maybe they repaired a flaw in the T5800 or T7250 (dont know which was released first)....
At the same time I doubt that if they created one to replace a flaw in the other that they would keep the other around so I honestly dont know. -
I just got my new dv5t yesterday and like it alot. beside the fan issue, it is a good laptop. fan either ran all the time or (by disabling "always on" in BIOS) on and off in a short time. my other dv7 laptop's fan is worse. it is louder and constantly on and off in a few seconds.
both wifi G or Intel AGN options use the same bluetooth module. with Intel AGN, it qualifies Intel "Centrio" brand. the bluetooth is a separate card located on the top of the laptop, under the quick touch panel. the bluetooth card is available on ebay but make sure you get the right cable which fit the dv5t plug on the motherboard. I heard HP used different cables on their laptops.
I have a window vista OEM dics from my old gateway. I will do a clean install using this disc. it is a OEM disc, key included, so no need to activate. installation is easy. I don't have to enter any keys.
I just make recovery disc last night. there are two DVD needed but during the process, it made 3 bad disc. anyone experience this? not sure if it is because of the DVD burner or the faulty bank disc I bought last year. -
by the way, I was able to upgrade my DVD drive to bluray Drive. it is every easy. just one screw, remove the drive, remove bracket which secure the drive to the laptop, attached this bracket to the new bluray drive.
you can keep the old face plate if you want. it fits the new bluray drive. -
the T5800 has Execute Disable Bit.
T7250 is able to operate at a higher temp.

is anybody here getting the "other devices" thing in the device manager? I still have 3 base system devices without a driver and I don't know what they are -_-
-
Microsoft ISATAP adapter
Microsoft ISATAP adapter#3
are the two devices with a caution mark under "Network Adapters".
There seem to be no "other devices"... -

Foxnews - 1. Thanks a lot!
I wasnt sure if the bluetooth was integrated with the wifi is all.. My laptop is coming with bluetooth already built in so all i should need to do is buy the wifi card (Intel 5100 minicard) on ebay and I should be all set.
2.Btw where did you find a bluray drive for this machine and if I install it will i still have lightscribe?
Algram - Wow youre right good job on finding those specs! Thanks
Eason - I believe I read about this earlier in the forum but I think you may have posted it heh. Idk Can anyone who has there dv5t pref one that has the same set up as his create a screen shot of there device manager? so that he can see whats missing (labeled as Other).
Everyone - I just want to state a little info from the site Algram provided the T7250 actually also has "Intel® Virtualization Technology" Thanks again to Algram for providing the link and info.
Everyone - My mothers Studio 17 came with a windows vista premium 32 disc (or so it says) it is purple and that is the label at the top.. it also has a dell logo on the bottom. From past experience this disc doesn't include any drivers or anything it is just the OS. It is still that way correct? -
Yes...the disc that Dell provides is not a factory image but a very useful disc that you can use to install a fresh copy(use your licence) when you get your new dv5t so that you can get rid of all the bloatware HP supplies! Driver discs for a Studio 17 were provided separately as far as I remember when I had mine.....
-
Cammeron Johnson Notebook Consultant
p1990 - Yeah thanks that's what it looked like I just wanted to make sure. The Studio came with a few software/driver discs but I wasn't sure if there was any chance of something being on the vista labeled disc still I will use this disc to clean install once my DV5 gets here
... But just to clarify what do you mean by not a factory image? if it isnt factory how can I install a clean copy with it?
Everyone - Is everyone who clean installs having the issue Eason is having? cause it would honestly bug the hell out of me if it happened to me -
What I mean is that, when you get your dv5t the disc that you are provided is not the Vista installer disc but a Recovery disc that contains the OS and the drivers required for your PC as a whole single unit. So in case something is wrong with your OS you can restore your PC to the same state as what you had when you unboxed your PC. But you cannot get rid of the bloatware. You can install a fresh Vista copy from the disc you have and then manually download all the drivers from HP website..
-
Cammeron Johnson Notebook Consultant
p1990 - so this disc will come with Dells drivers then?
-
Which disc?
-
Cammeron Johnson Notebook Consultant
The "Vista Home Premium 32 Bit" disc that dell provides.. as you said this isnt a standard Vista disc from microsoft it will have dell drivers that it installs without my choosing correct?
-
No,you got confused.Thats the case with HP! In case of DELL it is a standard Vista Disc and not a recovery disc with an image file.Dell have provided the drivers separately on another set of discs.
-
Cammeron Johnson Notebook Consultant
Ok lets start over I believe i got confused from the start as to what you were saying. I have a disc here says "OPERATING SYSTEM" "Already Installed on your computer" "Reinstallation DVD Windows Vista Home Premium 32BIT SP1"
"Dell" (at the bottom).
Now this is JUST Vista correct? its a fresh Copy just like I would buy from microsoft correct? (except without the license key of course) -
You are Correct.

Ok now I was reading the "Clean Install Guide" and I wonder if you know. It says to delete both partitions but I want the HP Restore Partition (its a lot quicker than doing it by disc incase something goes wrong with the clean install) Is there a way to keep it and have it work in the future?
Edit: I just called my HP Case Manager and my laptop was built and is being shipped out today ^ ^ if im lucky I will have it by friday if not than monday.
-
How do you use the remote the laptop comes with???????
-
Cammeron Johnson Notebook Consultant
Which remote? if you have the tv tuner than there are two of them. Im assuming you mean the small flat one that fits in the side. when using any media program click the buttons (fast forward rewind play etc) or you can click the green windows circle on the remote to open media center or the circle that ends with an arrow to open "quick play" (hp's media center)
-
I have no caution signs under network adapters, but I do not have MS ISATAP adapter listed.
-
Stuttering problems in 180.84 caused me to roll back to dox's customized 180.70 forceware. I get more 3dmarks (over 5k) but I can no longer overclock as high. 180.84 seem to offer the best oc'ing as of yet. Note: if you want to test how stable your OC is, play a source game. The chain is only as strong as the weakest link, and all that.
-
I tried searching on this thread and elsewhere but can't seem to find the answer. I just purchased the dv5t from HP (on its way to being delivered -- very excited!)...anyways, I know it has the HDMI port. However, I don't have a HD TV and I do like to watch movies off my computer connected to the TV.
I could try using a VGA to S-Video adapter but apperently this only works if the VGA port has a TV-out pin?? I have it configured with the 9600m GT. Does anyone know if VGA to S-video works with this laptop?
Thank you! -
Cammeron Johnson Notebook Consultant
Eason - How high were you able to get your clocks with 180.84?
-
Well WITHOUT crashing in Source, I could only do 600/1600/493. In 180.70, I have to go to 585/1600/486. I was getting lockups in Source games.
-
Cammeron Johnson Notebook Consultant
That seems low for the memory clock.. a lot of people get it to 570
-
Is heat still a major issue with 9600GT units?
-
Cammeron Johnson Notebook Consultant
The DV5T does get warm/hot with the 9600M GT but it is within safe operating temperatures (easily) you can use a cooler if the bottom is to "Warm" for you. but the temps should be fine as long as you dont overclock.. but for high end gaming i recommend a cooler even more so if you overclock
-
i just bought a dv5t(from costco.com/free printer) and i should get it next week.yay
is there something that u recommend that i should do once i get the laptop??
any important things i should know?tips??
thanks! -
I ordered mine 2 weeks ago.
It has the 9200M in it, didn't feel 9600m was required.
It'll run WoW, right?
I would have had it today, had it not been FOR HP FORGETTING TO SEND THE DOCUMENTATION ALONG WITH IT TO ALASKA. -

danjaboy/diablopath - Post specs please? buy the cooler
possibly overclock
and clean install (guide at start of forum)

Doesn't seem like HP is offering their coupons anymore. Any other place to buy from right now that offers good deals? Or should I wait for their coupons again?
-
just wait a few weeks cuz i am sure they will have more xmas sales.

danjaboy - Graphics card? Wifi Card?

Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD
Wireless-G Card -

Just get a good antivirus and antispyware and you should be all set (those specs wont take much power or produce much heat so you wont need a bigger battery or cooler)
For free antivirus i suggest Avast
Avast Download - http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html
Avast Registration - http://www.avast.com/eng/home-registration.php
For Antispyware Spybot S&D and Spyware blaster
Spybot - http://www.safer-networking.org/index2.html
Spyware blaster - http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html
Avast has never once let anything on my computer (if a website trys to download a virus it will set off an alarm and ask for an action from you to "abort connection") that system has been foolproof for me.
thats all of what id suggest for u tho.
-
Yeah but what can you do :/
-
thanks
is there an easier and faster wy of uninstalling all the hp software instaed of the vista clean install cuz that seems soo long and hard and i dont have a usb flash drive. -

Just got my dv5t yesterday. It's my first Vista machine and I was planning on doing a clean install with the guide. I didn't realize they don't ship any disks anymore. In the guide it mentions the Vista install files may be in a hidden folder. Does anyone know if the dv5t has it? Anybody here using it still without a clean install with okay results. I will uninstall the crap on there but is there a cleaner anyone can reccomend? Thanks.
-
Ok, ntune hard crashes my computer when I install. Sorry Cammeron.
-
Cammeron Johnson Notebook Consultant
Danjaboy - yeah it can all be uninstalled using the uninstall manager it just isnt as thorough as the clean install would be but it will work fine to get all the space back and to remove any of the programs a casual pc user would notice.
Eason - yeah it looks like it crashes all the new HP laptops (i believe i read it crashed an HDX16 also.) Thanks for trying tho
Diablopath - your CPU shouldn't get hot and the graphics card should get just a little warm. I recommend the same thing as I told danjaboy earlier in post #4488. By the way that card should run WoW just fine (probably not at highest settings tho) but if you dislike the card HP will allow you to return the laptop within 21 days of receiving it. also if you dont like any warmth coming from the laptop purchase a cooler altho i doubt you will notice much heat.
Xens - It may take a couple weeks but just as danjaboy said HP will release more coupons which can have high values sometimes. I've actually seen 30% coupons.
Stratguy - Check in the windows folder in the C Drive it should have another folder labeled something to the effect of HPsys or something to that extent. (just as the clean install guide shows for Sony (C:\Windows\sonysys\wau) now it is probably a hidden file so make sure it shows all files and folders when you search.
Everyone - Anyone who likes Ntune (if anyone does) please email them and ask for a new version!
.
Also has anyone purchased there DV5 with the "Bronze" option I haven't even seen any pictures of this just wondering how it looks
.
Side Note: I feel so lucky that we can all receive our very own "HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope" I mean theres no way HP would use it as a shameless plug to make it look like you're getting more when in fact its the old brown cardboard shipping box.... Nah HP is to nice to do that i'm sure it's something really nice
-
IRT The "Bronze" DV5
I saw a bronzed HP possibly the DV4 in a local store. It looks alright, not in your face horrible, but i still wouldnt choose it over the black option. -
Cammeron Johnson Notebook Consultant
lukext - Good I was given the option between onyx (black XD) and bronze on my replacement and the bronze didn't look good off there site to me so I went black aha.
-
Onyx style ftw.
The fans on this model are seriously quiet compared to the dv4s, I didn't know how lucky I was. -
Is there a way to turn of Bluetooth? But,i want to keep the WiFi on..
-
Cammeron Johnson Notebook Consultant
if you have the HP wireless utility installed open it then hit properties and select "independent controls" then it will allow you to turn just bluetooth or just wifi on or off
-
Tried it. There is no option at all....
HP wireless util is only listing the wireless devices..
