    hello guys,
    I have a dv5-1161 bought 2 days ago.
It's running very well, also tested with the new version of windows.
    It receives a 4.8 WEI.
Battery is kinda short in life, but is ok, i get between 2 - 2:10 hours on it.
I'm very pleased of it, powerfull and comfortable.

    what does that even mean?
    does it automatically update itself?
do we not have to get driver updates anymore?

    EDIT:
nvm, lol i misread what he wrote, all GPUs use the same driver now i get it....

Usually you wait until the graphics card is old enough for people's computers to start dying from overheating then make an average from the time at which people start complaining on Internet forums lol But I think there's a figure out there for general lifespan cuts due to OCing certainly NVIDIA cards.

I wouldn't personally want to OC with this card in particular :/ If I wanted a better machine for gaming I would have looked other brands at a similar price and less heat-producing cards. It plays latest games at medium settings. If I demanded any more than that I'd start to classify myself as more than a casual gamer and just get Alienware or something.

I am always in a dilemma....whether to OC it or not....have already flashed and reflashed the BIOS about 4 times because with the oldest(the one that allows OC'ing) BIOS release...I am having BSOD issues.

btw, does your dv5t have integrated bluetooth?

Maybe you need to find a different way to OC. Here's a link to an overclocker Darth Bane found. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=4294404&postcount=3

    Might be worth a try.

OC'ing this model can be benefitial if you know what you're doing, if gaming is important to you and you couldn't get anything better for the price and if you don't mind running the risk of having to replace it after a year or so. But if someone does have the cash to keep repacing notebooks yearly then surely they'd have bought something better to start with...

The only dv51xxx model I could find that has Bluetooth is the dv5-1015 according to this page:
    http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/uk/en/ho/WF06a/321957-321957-3329744-64354-64354-3744188.html

I know mine didn't come with it, most dv5's don't. I can't seem to find any info on the dv5-1101ea  is it just me or are there loads of dv51xxx models?

Its ridiculous on HP's part to not provide bluetooth.....its a basic wireless mode to communicate with cell-phones....mines dv5-1015tx and it has bluetooth....I was just shocked because I saw on some site that the 1101EA/UK did not come with it....just asked to cross check.

    @0.0
I have evga precision and rivatuner...but i guess something is wrong with F.05 bios...system regularly shows BSOD(after vista boots) even though I run the GPU at stock clocks.....

I was suggesting maybe you try Darth's method with the newer BIOS, if it works you would not be tied to F.05. ;)

ive been reading this forum for a couple of days now, and was wondering if i was to downclock a graphics card does it mean that the laptop will ultimately use less power and thus have a longer battery life??

I now there are risks with overclocking a card but are there any risks with downclocking??

Ive got the nvidia 9600m GT

it should be "hopefully the machine will run well and cool"...if you have a 9600M GT in it..! :D

yup 9600m gt in it.. I am very pleased with it so far mind you i need to put something on it minus a company of heroes demo, umm.. Probably wrong topic but what forceware driver woulld you recommend?

Also, how do you view the temperatures certain parts of this laptop whilst running?

@ davhuang; I do not believe there are many risks involved with downclocking your card with riva tuner as long as its within certain parameters (however you should take whatever i say with a grain of salt as i am inexperienced with overclocking/underclocking), however I believe what you want to do is undervolt the card with the lower clocks to save power. but don't do anything I say unless someone else can verify my (supposed) facts.

The new forceware for laptops, 179.28, is excellent so far. Underclocking doesn't really save much power, but undervolting your GPU will. Use RMClock to do that.

    IRT P1990

I think eason meant CPU in the above quote. As you have the P7350 which uses a half multiplier (7.5x) which RMClock doesnt recognise you will be forced to use 7.0X multi thus underclocking the CPU (to about 1.77GHz compared to the 2.0GHz stock) as well as undervolting it. However, it shouldn't make too much difference to performance.

Hi all.. I need help with the recovery disk... I did my recovery disk and i want to recover my drivers... but there is 4 options to choose from when i put the recovery disk... there is two that I'm confused with..

    1) recover your system to default factory settings.
    2) recover your computer to default factory settings.

Now which one is for the drivers only and which is for Windows??? I think it is the second options but I'm not sure. Anyone who is 100% sure about this please explain to me..

    Thank you all

to be honest, I havn't got a clue. I dont think it has got bluetooth but will find out xmas day, not really bothered eitherway. I had it on for 20 mins yesterday to check all was good, no dead pixels, no bad back light or anything. fan didn't spin up at all really either. Seems like an awesome little machine. Bought a Wegner swiss gear backpack and kapersky to go with it today :)

I suppose, but looking at all of the other features the laptop has and its price point (i got mine at £636) its pretty awesome and not many other laptops can beat it. I guess thats why its one of the most popular on the NBR top list...

    Onyx vs Bronze

I ordered the Onyx version of the dv5t because I didn't like the Bronze version pictures from HP's website. Just want to tell you guys that I could check personally a Bronze version of a Pavillion and it looks really nice. In my opinion, if you're after enhancing your laptop's looks, the bronze model is whorthier than the Infinity display.

It's impossible to tell; there will always be more sales though.
Yes, it's normal. The one on the left is the power indicator - it will always be on when the notebook is on. The middle one is the charging indicator - it will be lit up when the battery is charging and turn off when it is fully charged. And the right one is the hard disk activity indicator. It will blink when the hard drive is being accessed. You have nothing to worry about.

    I wanna rephrase my questions:

Is it possible to undervolt the P7350 without losing performance? Or, anyone undervolted it on the dv5t using RMClock and can tell if it's worth the underclock you're forced to do?

You're confusing undervolting and underclocking. You won't lose performance if you undervolt your processor.

I think he meant that since P7350 does not allow half multipliers the max multiplier would be 7x instead of 7.5x(so he thought that there would be speed loss)...,therefore the processor will be running at 1.71ghz...is it not?

I'm not sure I understand what you mean, because if the processor does not allow half multipliers, how would he lose performance if he can't get 7.5x in the first place? And how does undervolting fit into all this?

If you look at post #4621, you can see that the user lukext reported that it's necessary to do underclock to achieve undervolt with the P7350 using the RM tool. I wonder if someone knows a different tool to undervolt without underclocking. I would like to hear anything from someone that tried undervolting P7350 specially on dv5t.

    hi!
I'm planning on buying a dv5t laptop, but unfortunatly where I live there aren't any customizable ones :(
    the options I have are:
P8400 processor with a NVIDIA GeForce 9200M GS
    or
    T9400 ‎‏processor with a NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT

I read in a few places here that the T9400 tends to get hot even while not gaming and requires more power (and also more expensive, a fact I already knew..)
so I was thinking about buying the P8400 one, but I'm not sure about the graphics card. is the 9200M good for gaming? (say, like sims 3..) are there any known issues with it? or has anyone tried to play a game with it and can tell how it performs?

    Thanks!

The 9200m card can handle rts games very well and can handle fps on low settings. It's easy to overclock, which gains a really nice performance boost. However, if you are someone who feels the need to have everything max out, then it's not for you.

According to this http://www.vgrequirements.info/?p=3158 , the 9200m meets the requirement for sims 3 on a laptop.

    Hey guys,
I just upgraded the ram from 2 gb to 4 gb on my dv5t. After I put in the new modules, my computer will not boot. I went back to the original modules and it still will not boot. What happens when I turn it on is the lights go on, on the quikplay bar and on the front, but the monitor won't come on. Any one care to shed some light?

Maybe it is booting but somehow the monitor connection got knocked loose? if you want to check the connection should be right under the keyboard. also theres a guide 10-20 pages back on how to take it apart (it links to the HP guide on how to disassemble)

Overclocking is increasing the speed (mhz) of the video card.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overclocking

It is safe as long as you keep the temperature down to a safe level.

I would seriously re-check your RAM installation. It's probably just not seated correctly.... OR you bought the wrong RAM. just a thought or two.
