My wife got me the Targus Chill Mat for Christmas. I didn't think it would work, but the fans sit directly under the RAM (which got blazing hot under Orthos), and cooled it significantly. Although the temps in HWMonitor only went down about 3C, there is significant difference in the highly scientific "touch test" (putting hand on bottom of laptop). Undervolting gave me about another 8-10C, and now I idle at 41C

This cooler's pricey, but people say it's worth it:

I don't have temperature numbers but I'm enjoying this one:

    http://www.coolermaster.com/products/product.php?language=en&act=detail&tbcate=1&id=124

It's cheap, not too big, has an extra USB port so it gives back the USB it takes, lifts nicely the back of the laptop. What bugs me a little bit is that when the back of the laptop is lifted, the headphone and microphone slots aim down so it's not nice to plug the connectors unless you put the laptop in the edge of the table.

    Hi,
I have a new dv5t with integrated intel graphics card.
I am not able to see any output on my SONY HDTV (KDL-32M4000) using HDMI out from this laptop, I did try rescaning hardware as suggested earlier on this forum, but I simply am not able to see any image/ audio

I am assuming that I will be able to see the entire desktop screen (as if connected through VGA) on the HDTV ? I tried also playing couple of regular DVDs and still nothing visible/audible through TV.

EDIT: This was resolved when I changed the display resolution to 1280X800.

I've had my system for about a month now and am mostly happy. I got it with the 64 bit, p7350 , 4gb ram, nividia 9200 and the 1680 x 1050 display. Two things i dont understand. Video plays great in regular mode and then when going full screen it starts out fine and within a minute or so it gets choppy and eventually goes to slow motion. Now this is mainly video online from Youtube, hulu, etc. I havent tried it with a DVD yet. I had this before I updated Nividia's drivers so i dont think it's that. Someone told me it's the DRM rights thing Vista has. If that could be it is there a workaround that? Also I get a weird scan line on screen every few seconds when i hook up the system to a TV via HDMI. I have seen it posted before but with no fix. Any answesr would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

i got nothing when watching video like you, i would suggest you try another video player such as VLC ( http://www.videolan.org/vlc/), it's free, if it gets problem too, you should do clean install windows and try again.

this question is probably answered already but I am too busy to go through all 500 pages. How long does it take in average for HP to ship your dv5t from the time you place your order?

I don't mean to sound rude, but this is something you would want to ask to HP directly.

Hi, i m new here and i just brought a dv5t few days ago and i love it but i have one problem. i have the nvidia geforce 9600m gt with 1280 * 800 as my resolution. when i watch a rmvb file and start making the video player bigger or full screen, the video quality starts to turn bad and the image starts to be all blocky (like the person's face is made out blocks), the image is not smooth. i never had any problem with the same movie in my old laptop which has a old nvidia graphic card, also in my 7yrs old desktop and my sister's laptop (with intergrated graphic card) the image is smooth with no blocks.

idk how to fix the problem or is it the graphic card's problem, but with other video file such as wmv and avi i dont see the same problem, only rmvb seems to have tat problem and i tried different players but it didnt help

I use WinDVD.. you can find it on the HP site... is downloadable for laptops which don't have Quickplay (like the HP 6830S)... download the player & the patches... installs fine on a DV5. Plays Bluray disks fine.

    Scratches

So sad... Less than 1 week with the dv5t and it already has scratches. :( And I'm so careful... My 2 years old laptop (now my wife's) has no scratch. This black painting on the cover is too soft and easy to scratch. Be extra careful, mates.

Hi! I'm planning on buying the HP Pavilion dv5-1130. I've read some of the comments and problems about like the colours and some other problems..

I'd like to know how good it actually is. I don't know a lot about computers, but I do know it has a good video card on it and a lot of memory. So, will it also be fast enough to play "The Sims 3" on it? And to make moviemontages and everything? I'd like to read about your experiences and everything. Can't read all pages on this board lol. Just the positive aspects and negative aspects or something like that.

It's about the dv5-1130 (Intel Pentium Dual-Core, nVidia GeForce 9200M GS).

    Thanks in advance. :)

Thanks for your reply! So.. the 9200M GS wouldn't be that great playing a new game..? 'Cause that one will cost me €659,-. And the 9600M GT €830,-. So it really is much more expensive. Is it that much better too?

pretty much, my audio has stopped working on my brand new, 1 week old dv5t 64-bit. the mute button will not switch from orange.

though touching the quicktouch button physically "mutes" and "unmutes" the computer volume, the volume itself will not work at any volume. help!?

Try installing the latest drivers in my thread here:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=338874

    :)

Also what is your default audio output device? To check this right click the volume button in the taskbar and click Playback devices.

i suggest u guys should not update the IDT HD Audio CODEC with the one from Windows Update, it causes the volume and network icon on taskbar disappear and also the windows update error (vista x64)

@ltkshaka : i dont know how it look like but i think u can play around with vibrance, contrast, gamma, this is my default setting :

My computer and questions on it. What is the diffrence between the dv5t and the computer I purchased which is a HP Pavilion dv5-1183cl?
    The dv5-1183cl includes:
    P7350 2.0Ghz 3MB Cache 1066Mhz FSB
    4 GB PC6400 800Mhz Ram
    320GB 5400 RPM hard drive
    Nvidia 9600M GT 512MB
    Intel Pro Wifi 5100 AGN
    15.4" Widescreen
    Blu-ray drive
    Vista 64 bit SP1
    Realtek 10/100/1000 internet
    Built in card reader
    E-sata port
    3 USB ports
    1 1394 firewire port
    56K modem-why? lol.
    HDMI output
    IDT Sound
    Monitor out
    Quick dock port
    Webcam 2.0MP and microphone

How much improvement should I see when installing these parts I purchased?
    P9500 2.53Ghz 6MB cache
Intel Extreame SSD SATAII -Read 250Mbs Write 170Mbs (I think thats what I read)
Will I see any benifits of changing the ram to Crucial 4Gb PC6400
I am also installing Bluetooth 2.0.

The video card on this under dxdiag and device manager shows pci express does this mean you can upgrade this?

Would it show any improvement changing to 8Gb ram?

Yes i have the same menu as you. But the problem is that the default is very bad. The colors are very washed out and rubbish. If you compare it with your desktop then you will see the difference. I for one compared it with my itouch. The same image on my itouch as my laptop. and the color difference was huge. It looked better on the itouch.

    IRT toyota_scion_tc

    P7350 to P9500: Quite a big improvement
5400RPM HDD to Intel SDD: General use will feel alot more responsive
Ram upgrade to Crucial: Very little to possibly no improvement what so ever
ram upgrade to 8GB: So long as you use 64bit operating system, you may notice some improvment

the graphics card cannt be upgraded as this is physicqally attached (soldered) to the mainboard of the laptop.

Aren't you guys using the wrong resolution for your displays? For instance, you bought a 1600x1050 or something but are using 1280x800. That might be the reason you don't like the colors. Mine is 1280x800 and I didn't notice anything wrong with the colors.

Thanks for the info. I am looking for improvements the laptop only cost 1200 and from what I can tell it has a good platform. I didn't think I could upgrade the Video but still had to ask, I know most are integrated. I did have a huge Toshiba that you could actually change the graphics card out.

Finally purchased the DV5T with 9600MGT, 320 gig, centrino 2 2.0ghz dual core, 4gigs ram for $997CAD minus some coupons, free printer, mouse and wireless router.

My only gripe with the laptop so far is the light comming from the HP symbol when the laptop lid is closed. Is there any way to turn that light off?

It works flawlessly on Win7 :) Just download the drivers from my thread here as they're newer than the ones on the recovery partition/SwSetup:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=338874

All the drivers you'll need should be there. If not then just post in the thread and I'll find you the driver you need! :)

Also a note to everyone else, a new version of Cyberlink YouCam has been released, see the same thread as above! :)
