Ah, that would indeed be the case. Thanks for pointing that out to me![]()

Actually, I saw the new dv6t retail models at Costco, a couple of days ago.
-
When I ordered on March 11, I was given a March 31 ship date. Consequently, it is surprising to me that HP would estimate such a long time to build a machine with the defective chipset. Any suggestions on how I could test to see if I do, in fact, have Cougar Point silicon?
The HP website indicates that they stopped shipping the defective chipsets in Feb, and planned to resume new shipments in March. It would be a supreme example of customer cornholing if I receive a defective chipset or the Intel-proposed PCI-SATA workaround. Should I get ready to grab my ankles? -
ok guys, ordered my dv7 this past week.

Got a note from HP today that it's coming. ETA shipping of 4/19/11 with 2 day bus shipping.
I'm ok with waiting. I got another computer to use.
can't wait, i loved my SSD in the defective DV7...i kind of wished i should have added $25 for the lightscribe but not a big deal...
got such a killer deal on it i don't even want to say how much...thanks HP for the blu-ray and usb 3.0... -
Ordered a DV7tqe back on the 13th and yeah, HP sent me the "sorry for the inconvenience, here's 15% off on your next purchase" e-mail today as well. It would have been nice if they provided a little info on how long they expect the delay to be.
-
Same here, I am trying to decide if the email is saying it will ship out soon or if it will take a while to ship out. Im hopeing that when I get up tomorrow it will have shipped.
-
Chances ARE, everything is just fine. While certain utilities still DO report the B2 chip set, this may, or MAY NOT, be a problem with the unit, OR maybe the utility. I would voice my concern to HP and ask for a technical CALL BACK to have them describe their position. Everything MAY be just fine. It will generate a documented case and you can make your decision with real information, instead of a lot of speculation. The previous model (4000) is still a nice computer... not perfect, but very capable... and no one here really knows how good or bad the new model will turn out to be.
-
I ordered the dv6tqe on the 13th (est ship 3/25) as well and still have not received a delayed/shipping notification.. hopefully that means its shipping soon..
-
I think everyone is making too big of a fuss about the "defective" chipset. From the information I read, Intel said that 5-15% of the motherboards would be effected and even then it would take almost three years before you would notice. If nobody told you there was anything wrong then you would never even notice.
-
I noticed right away. Blu Ray playback was poor.
-
no way ... you didn't have the codec GPU hardware support configured correctly.
-
I think Sandybridge CPU should handle Bluray as it is, without GPU acceleration aiding or software codec like CoreAVC.
I do not know what B2 will affect ODD. And not sure 5xxx series ODD connected to SATA2 or SATA3. -
Question, so if the dv7t is newer and many people are waiting for them to be shipped out, how come there's already several reviews on this page? And a user, roadmaster, gave it 1 star?
-
Those are for the old (5000) models, looking at the dates for the reviews, some were on the 14th, the day after the release. Customers posted based on dv7 model number.
I did see one review for the 6000 model, but the reviewer clearly has not had a hands on experience. -
Versus dv7t?
-
Yea most of the people that did reviews on the hp website are idiots that have the dv7tqe 5000. As far as I know nobody has the dv7tqe 6000 yet...
-
The refresh is technically (correct me if im wrong) dv7-6000 series, versus the previous generation dv7-5xxx series with the old clickpad, graphics chip etc.
HP Pavilion dv7t-6000 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English) -
Stupid question maybe but for the laptop I just purchased a couple of days ago (HP Pavilion dv7t Quad Edition) is 6000 series right?
-
If you purchased the quad edition after March 13th (USB 3.0, beats audio) then yes. If you got the dv7t they have on the site, I think its the old one without those features.
-
Wally, Yup you are all good as long as you bought from hp.com
-
Alright thanks. Do I sound paranoid?
-
I'm sure if you went through all these pages we all sound paranoid
-
Important!
I just chat online with an hp sale rep. What I got is that the video card 6490 or 6770 in DV6t SE is not switchable. I guess the 5.5 hours battery time is with Interl video card. Anyone can confirm this?
03/28/2011 07:14:45PM y*: "I can select AMD video card 6490 and 6770. Are they switchable., Thanks. Other words, is there an intergrated video card in the Interl 2nd i5 cpu?"
03/28/2011 07:16:23PM Agent (Car**): "They are not switchable. I am sorry." -
I am pretty sure they are switchable. The manual says so, and so does the driver information.
No offense to the HP customer service reps, but I don't trust a word they say. -
Anyone receiving their new laptop (umber finish) this week? I would really appreciate if you posted some pics of what it looks like.
My last day to return the argento dv7 is Monday so I need to make a decision by then, hopefully some of you people get it this week! -
Yeah, it said mine was going to be delivered on March 31st and then I checked again tonight and it said "exception" and states my new date as April 5th. Unfortunately, if that is accurate, it will not make it here in time for my next business trip, so I am likely going to be returning it. Having 900 on my CC is no big deal provided they don't pull a fast one and claim some crap like "We never received it"
-
Got the machine today. 4000 series, so it looks like I'm in the wrong forum. Design of the 9 cell battery is enough of a reason to return- just enough asymmetry to make you insane over the useable lifetime.
-
What model did you order? My DV7 is expected March 30th and hasn't been changed as of 5 mins ago.
-
The new umber dv7? You are getting it tomorrow? Let us all know how it is! Post some picks!
-
I'm not sure what the deal is with the switchable graphics on the new DV series. You would think that the HP Home store would show it in the specs, because it is a desired feature. I was thinking maybe the Quad Edition models could lack switchable, but the DV6t SE? It at least lists the Intel HD Graphics 3000 as an option for the DV6t SE on the HP Store. So why wouldn't they enable that feature if both hardware options are available. If the DV6t SE model doesn't have it then what DV 6xxx models do? The brochure for the DV7/DV6 says it does have it, and so does the service manuals floating around. The HP driver for the 6490/6770 says it's available, "For notebooks with switchable graphics modes". I guess the question is, are there certain DV model configs that have or lack switchable graphics? I'm tired of speculating about all this stuff. It's ridiculous that HP's sales reps, and tech support for that matter, are so inconsistent that if you call 5 times, you will get 5 different answers to even the most simple question. I can't wait for these things to start to ship so we can really start complaining
-
All 2nd generation Intel CPUs have an IGP with directx 10 support (Wikipedia). It depends on the notebook manufacturer if he will enable the AMD Switchable Graphics Technology to switch between the AMD graphics card and Intel IGP.
Unlike Nvidia's Optimus Technology, you have to switch manually (without rebooting). But I really doubt that HP wouldn't enable this feature. -
Which processor and graphics card did it have?
-
I wish dv6 had sub ;/ Normally I don't care because I use headphones, but sometimes it's good to let ears rest so i don't wanna hear pooooor sound
-
this may be a stupid question but... If i build my dv6qe and select the blu-ray player and supermulti dvd burner, will i be able to play regular dvd's and blu ray disks as well?
-
No such thing as a stupid question. You wil be able to play both.
-
Sure
It will play blue ray´s and dvd´s but it will only burn dvd´s
greetz -
thanks for the help and quick response!
-
All the ones they have are i7 2630, Intel HD , with broadcom bgn wifi.
Black Color ...
The keyboard is just even more weirder for me to type on cause I'm so used to my model. -

Can anyone tell me in basic terms what the hp standard warranty is? i really dont want to read through that thesis paper long explanation, i just wanna know what is covered and how long? -
Unfortunately there isn't a whole lot of data out there, but here is what can be found. Keep in mind, this is against the 555M - Which is currently a $150 upgrade over the 550M in the XPS line. Since there is no hard facts out there for the 6770 we can only compare it to the 6750.
XPS 17 Presample w/ 2630QM CPU and GeForce 555M (3GB DDR3)
3dMark 06 (1280x1024 resolution) - 10,786
3dMark Vantage (unknown resolution) - 5,022
Macbook Pro 15" w/ 2720QM CPU and Radeon HD6750M
3dMark 06 (1280x1024 resolution) - 9,381
3dMark Vantage (unknown resolution) - 4,512
That being said... Take a look at the results on 3dMark's site for the Radeon 6750 (Macbook Pros) - You'll see a lot of 11,500-12,000 3dMark 06 results at the top of the list. Some of these MAY be overclocks, but the results aren't very clear.
The signs point to the 6770 being at the very least competitive with the 555M, and should be signficantly better than the 550M. And, as far as upgrade costs go, it's $125 cheaper than the 555M when comparing to the XPS 17.
Edit: There is one result on 3dMark's lookup site for the GeForce 550M - 8,825 in 3dMark 06 @ 1280x1024.
Edit2: Info from hwcompare was for desktop cards - not mobile. Thanks, City Pig! -
I've heard the 30% coupon may expire today (from this thread), can anyone confirm?
-
It amazes me that so may people here order their notebook with the 5400 rpm drive over the slightly smaller 7200 rpm drive. Having an SSD I could never go back to a 7200 drive let alone a 5400!! Maybe I am missing something here but it does not make sense to me to buy a i7 SB processor, 6-8gb ram, and a 5400 drive. Do people even realize how much this will slow their system down? I know there are some small battery life and cooling benefits but am I wrong?
-
You also need to keep in mind that the Macbook Pros have a bit more robust CPU as well, although you can upgrade the dv7 to match.
Its quite possible that the dv series with the 6770 video might be a bit of a sleeper though, once benches come out they may pull the chip or update what they are doing with the envy if its as good as it looks. -
The issue is most of us never touched an ssd. Even myself, I benefit more with higher capacity and can wait an extra minute loading a map of a game, since it won't start anyways after some amount of time in multiplayer.
-
That appears to be for desktop GPUs. The clocks on these are 600 or 750MHz, and they have 8 ROPS and 480 cores
-
Correct. Just pulling from 3dMark's site here, but in 3dMark06's CPU score the 2630QM gets around 5050 and the 2720QM gets 5480. I don't think that difference has a "direct" impact on the score - I'm sure it's normalized somehow in the total.
-
Just spoke with HP Resolutions Dept., and have been informed that my build date has been delayed until April 1st due to a component shortage. I spoke to a supervisor and asked them if they would expedite my order to 2 business day shipping for the "inconvenience they have caused me." They submitted request to management, so we'll see. Oh well, not happy about the delay, but at least I have a date now, instead of just waiting in the dark. Pretty good reviews on the new dv6 model on PC Mag, got Editor's Choice, so I'm having high hopes for the dv7.

just picked up

-
This is supposedly the resolutions department number given to me by an HP Rep during live chat: 1-866-217-6014. Yeah, you should call, yesterday I called them and was told by them that my laptop wasn't on a delay list either, but lo and behold today, it's now April 1.
