I understand most people do not want to pay the crazy SSD option price. My point was I can not believe how many people choose the 750GB 5400 drive over the 640GB 7200 drive at no price difference. Even with the 7200 drive, it will be the slowest thing in your system let alone a 5400 drive.

Hi guys, I stop waiting for an Envy 17 3D Sandy Bridge discount coupon, so I ordered a Pavilion DV7Tqe (w/ the 30% coupon) (order date: 03/21/2011, Est shipping date April 4, 2011) :

    • 2nd generation Intel(R) Quad Core(TM) i7-2720QM (2.2 GHz, 6MB L3 Cache) w/Turbo Boost up to 3.3 GHz
    • 1GB Radeon(TM) HD 6770M GDDR5 Graphics [HDMI, VGA]
    • 8GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
    • 640GB 7200RPM Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
    • No Additional Office Software
    • FREE Upgrade to Norton Internet Security(TM) 2011 - 15 Month Subscription (activation required)
    • 9-Cell Lithium-Ion Battery ( over-sized) ( less heat and more battery life than the Envy 17 3D)- Up to 9.5 hours of battery life +++
    • 17.3" diagonal HD+ HP BrightView LED Display ( 1600 x 900)
    • FREE Upgrade to Blu-ray player & SuperMulti DVD burner
    • HP TrueVision HD Webcam with Integrated Digital Microphone and HP SimplePass Fingerprint Reader
    • Intel 802.11b/g/n WLAN and Bluetooth(R)

    Price: $1,539.99 (discounted price: $1,077.99 +0.00 tax NH :) )

My only question is, if I buy a 1080p monitor, will I be able to see my laptop's screen in 1080p, even though the resolution in this laptop is 900p?

Yes, the laptop will output at 1080p if the screen supports it. I assume you're referring to an external monitor

Thanks Umz... a 1080p resolution in a 17" screen is hard on my eyes anyway, so I will be fine with my DV7tqe at 900p :)

Fedex just dropped it off according to my wife. I won't be home from work for another 5 hours or so. But as soon as I get some information, I'll post on it. Again, a good example of Fedex giving a riduclous estimated delivery.

First the estimated delivery date was March 31st, then it was changed to April 1st, then it was changed to April 5th. As you can see, I received it on the 30th.

Please understand that I am calm and collected, but I think that it is very poor to give ridiculous estimate delivery dates. As far as I know this really only happens with the big venders and Fedex. When using Fedex with a place like Newegg, it was great service. The exception almost always appears to be when Fedex ground is used. Fedex ground, from what I gathered is made up of independant contractors, who are sometimes not that great.

This is the third time I have seen this exact scenario, and you would have thought I would have remembered from the two other times(only now is my memory jarred, but is still fuzzy). Again, in all cases they delivered way earlier.

My rule was if they sent me the laptop before my Business Trip, I'd keep it. So it looks like I will be keeping it, unless I find a defect, or something mispresented about this product. I'll know a lot more tonight.

Edit ** DV6+6770M+640GB 7200RPM for those who are wondering.

Got a great deal with my dv6qe. Before I get to that, just wanted to say this is my first post and I've found this forum (and others) ridiculously helpful.

Ok, so my configuration (made on the 14th) came out to be $1420 before taxes, shipping, and coupons. Got 2day shipping and used the 325 coupon, for a 1222 total. Once I saw the 30% off coupon, called in and had them price match (-85). Then, got the shipment delayed email yesterday (and 15% coupon) and called them and got the $39 2day shipping comp'd.

Today, I went on online chat and made as-if I was thinking of cancelling due to the delay on top of such a long total wait time (and the fact that I wouldn't have the pc for my "business trip" next week). Made no mention of wanting anything but to "find out how" to cancel my order. They eventually gave me the number to resolutions. But before getting off, I mentioned i would be willing to wait the week if the 15% coupon code I got from the delay could be added to my order. Lo and behold, another $150 off!

That makes for a total of $600 off!

Sorry for the long explanation, but I'm obviously pumped to have such an awesome machine for sub $1000 w/ taxes.

I did not change anything from the initial config with the exception of the Hard Drive. So, I did not order the higher capacity battery, or an extra battery.

Keep in mind that I have not opened it up yet, for all I know HP didn't even send me the right notebook (somewhat joking, but who knows, mistakes happen).

Can't wait for everyone's reviews on the dv6t. I'm basically torn between this model or ASUS N53SN, which should be out soon too.

The question will be if the 6770M outperforms the possible GT550M as well as having easy switchability whether auto or manual. HP just needs to freakin' get a 1600x900 option again.

the 6770 should be closer to the GT555M than the GT550, especially at the resolutions on the dv6t. I know the resolution sucks for productivity, but it will definitely help game performance.

FYI, technically, very similiar... let's see how build/durability holds up ...
Thunderbolt MacBook Pro: The last notebook you'll ever need | Computer Hardware - InfoWorld

(I do appreciate technical excellence, but think somewhat less of AAPL's target audience) Thunderbolt IS approx twice as fast as USB 3.0 ... but NO peripherals currently exist... not to say that there are many more USB 3.0
( I like the way url links are handled on this board... very smart )

My guess is the produce them according to configuration by assigning orders into lots. All the ones with this feature and that feature are in production run "X" and so on.

I suspect these were definitely all pre-sold, and when they bundle enough of a certain configuration to fill "x" number of pallets, they submit the order.

okay guys.... the noice is hardly bad yet I havent tested it out yet. It seems to get fingerprints but hardly noticable. Still trying to see if its switchable, dont know where to check, doesnt seem to be an onboard switch. It is Dark Brown... I like the color. Looks black from far. the keys and the click touchpad makes some noice buts thats okay. I dont like the screen resolution seems the same as the old dv6, but I knew this going into it. Would have loved a 1080p :) Will be posting pics soon. Just trying to figure out how to do that on this thread

The only thing I loathe about getting mine is the PITA of re-installing Office, etc. and transferring my data (Outlook files, .docs, etc.) and having to re-set up preferences and auto-text and such.

Is there a painless way? My current system is Vista and the new one will come with 7.

I would think switching between discrete and integrated graphics would be done through ATI catalyst. But that's just a wild guess.
