it burns 4 disks.
-
More Complaining + Threats to return = More credit
-
really? woww...! that's cool... there was an increase in the free ram upgrade given by HP for the ongoing Independence Day Sale... like it went up from free 6gigs to free 8gigs now... So should I try to ask them for a credit for that? Can I also email the CEO regarding this... I had called them once but the CSR clearly refused to give credit.. Should I call back and complain again...?
-
Just copy the SWSETUP folder to a flash drive, if you have one large enough...or just use regular DVD+R DL...again...use Verbatim.
As far as - or + r making a difference...NO! Just make sure that if you start burning the recovery set with -r, then every disk must be of the same type. Not recommended to mix - and + r here. So having all -r for the recovery disks will be fine -
yes... I have ordered the 5-pack of Verbatim dvd-r, so hopefully they are all of the same type...
Thanks
-
They will be all the same...don't worry about that. BTW...right click on your SWSETUP folder...choose properties and tell me how big is it? Mine on my Envy 17 3D is 6.32 GB. BTW, here is dual layer discs
http://www.rima.com/prod/1866.html -
Well, it arrived yesterday, but I have got to time to unbox it yet...work work work..! hopefully I'll do it tonight... and then let you know the size of the SWSETUP folder... I have also shipped back my first order...
-
If it is smaller than 4.7 GB, you will most likely be able to burn a copy to a single layer disk...thus use for disk 5 of the 5 disks you got (Verbatim)
-
Heyy..I just called up the resolutions dep. and spoke to him for about half an hour... I asked for the credits for the new 8gig ram upgrade and more credit for the wrong color given....I also gave him returning threats....
But there was no way he granted me any credits...!
What should I do now? Email the CEO? I want to suck as much as I can outta HP...!
-
yeahh...hope it's smaller.... or else the 5th dvd will remain useless..I don't really use blank dvds...
-
I have the dv7 an the SWSetup is 3.6 GB
-
There you go...backing up that folder can be done with ONE single layer DVD...
Good to know
Thanks -
Try again with a different rep, or even better, get a supervisor. I don't know how effective emailing the CEO will be.
-
This is the second time I spoke to a supervisor regarding this, but to know positive response
I just emailed the CEO.. awaiting a response...
When I spoke to this rep this time.. He's like you had called up once before about the same and have already got an answer, so why are you calling up again? we have many other customers to serve sir.... I was like... f... You are behaving as if HP has given this laptop to me for no money....
then I banged the phone...
-
I just received a reply email from the CEO...It says that they can't do anything about it. These are just changing promotions over time.... so no more credits...
Also, if the laptop's price goes down in the next few days, like the same configurations but lesser price, then I may receive a credit..!
-
Well, it seems that modified bios isnt possible for these laptops to enable other WLAN cards. I guess its time to blast the CEO email to get other WLAN cards added to the whitelist.
-
Alright guys...just unboxed my new dv7tqe... the color is dark umber...it's very dark and also a fingerprint magnet.... but I don't mind that...it's alright... and yes...my SWSETUP folder is 2.6gigs...
-
Can anybody give details on the touchpad? Can it be used as a clickpad? like the envy14? Or is it simply all tap to click?
I'm trying to decide between a dv6tqe and an envy14 similarly specd the difference is really a fingerprint reader and 1080p versus metal chassis=higher build quality and backlit keyboard. -
It's got the traditional touchpad with 2 buttons, you can also tap to click... and the multi-touch gestures are pretty good... the dv6tqe has still got a very strong built quality...
-
Quick question on the battery. Does this share the same battery as previous versions of the DV6's?
-
I have not used the previous versions of dv6's, so don't really know how their batteries were.... but yea... the new SB processors have greatly improved battery life, so the new dv6's will run much longer on batteries than the previous versions..
-
When i get this computer should i choose "Use recommended Updates" or "Only Install Important Updates "?
-
I chose recommended updates...I don't know what should be better
-
My laptop just got shipped today. I heard its strongly recommended to make a recovery disk before you do anything so how do i make one? I not that strong with computers so i welcome any constructive criticism so bear with me . I spent $1300 Dollars customizing it, so i think its worth it to create recovery disks. So how? Also what is the benefit of creating a recovery disk? Doesn't it come in the laptop?
iM STILL WAITING ON AN ANSWER! Cant do anything with my new laptop until i figure this out -
alright.... so making a recovery disk will let you reinstall the system to default factory setup if you happen to mess it up or the system falls due to a virus or malfunction... So a recovery disk will have windows 7 loaded on it along with the default drivers... go to 'start menu' search for 'make a recovery disk'.. I'll provide you a link which has all details and procedures for making the recovery disk.. You can also call up technical support and they will help you out with the recovery process... so the benefit is that if in the future you need to reinstall windows, you wont have to buy a new Windows DVD, so it's just like a backup... You can also backup all your stuff onto an external hdd... you can also burn the SWSETUP folder in the C drive onto a dvd or copy it into a flash drive if you want to run a clean install of windows... so you have many options....
Creating Recovery Discs or Saving a Recovery Image to a USB Flash Drive in Windows 7 - HP Customer Care (United States - English) -
Meh, so the intermittent problems I was having with my 640gb HD have cost me my partition again. IF anyone else has a hard drive issue here's what I've experienced:
First problem: At one point, data on Windows partition was unreadable, nothing but errors from various diagnostics. Reformat partition, reinstall, and fine again (I thought).
Second problem: Couldn't read a large file (VMWare VM file) when I wanted to back up a VM for work. It's a loss, but I had a copy pre-DV7T. Then, a week later my machine wouldn't boot without a BSoD. Reboot, repeat BSoD. Reformat and recovery, it appeared it was ok again. I was sure it wasn't quite right, so...
Ran the HP diagnostics from Bios, there was an error during the short test, with some codes. I should have run the HP Bio HD test first sign, would have saved me a lot of hassle. The short test failed in 2 minutes...
WRITE these error/failure codes down! HP will not replace the drive without either you sending the machine in where they can test for themselves, or giving them codes from the test results.
I used the HP Assistant and contacted HP via the chat option. It sent them info on my laptop. I was using a backup OS drive in the secondary (which I have for storage AND just in case this would happen).
First chat took a while, and of course, I hadn't written the codes down. So I thanks my HP agent and put the old drive back in and ran the tests I mention above, writing down the code this time. :/
Second chat they took my code and had another agent call me for a credit card number to guard against me keeping the original and the replacement they planned to send. They put a hold on $1 to make sure the CC was good. They say there should be no charge and I the hold will be removed when I send the old drive in. You have 3 days to send it.
They asked me if I was comfortable replacing the drive myself, which I can say I am. Obviously I swapped the failed drive with a working one before chatting with them from the laptop.
Anyway, they FedEx'ed the new drive that day (yesterday) and I received the drive the NEXT day (today). Exact same model HD.
I'm running the full HP diagnostic on the new drive now. 640gb is taking about 90 minutes to run the long test (90 minutes and 5% left to go
. Short test took about 10 minutes. I'd rather check it first than spend longer copying data and then having another issue.
Finished while typing this up, 100 minutes to run long test.
I also received RECOVERY DVDs in the shipment, so I has them for free.
OS and Drivers/Applications. I can use my tiny Lexar Echo thumbnail drive for data again, though I'll wait until I use it to get the drive prepped and wait in case of further issues...
Anyway, in case anyone was having issues, don't hesitate to run the diagnostics from Bios (F2 on boot). And write down everything it says if it fails.
Also, minimal recovery option uses a black HP theme in Windows. I like it. Clean and sleek, though maybe dated by now (basic).

Great Job! That is how the system works. Under normal terms of the warranty (unless you purchase At Home)...that is how the exchange is made. I have read where some people are offended to give out credit card info and refuse. As long as you know what you are doing...it makes the process fast and easy. Once they receive your old HDD back...they take the charge hold off your card.
Also...I didn't know this. My son's PSU on his original Pavillion went out. They sent a new one and said to throw the old one away...they didn't want it back...
Some parts need to be sent back and others don't...
Thanks for sharing -
Psu is dangerous to repair and is cheap. Hard drive failure is something a manufacturer would like to analyze
-
The option of sending and installing the replacement part yourself is nice and all but it can be used against you.
If there is any other problems caused by your installation of the replacement part. They can easily write it off the warranty as voided, which is a pain to tell them otherwise.
Then again... sure better than loosing post purchase hardware during warranty service. -
Yeah, I didn't want to have to send in the whole machine, aside from my work laptop it is my sole machine (aside from an ESXi server, which you can't play games on
.

Is HP still messing up and shipping silver instead of dark umber? I need to return my laptop and want the silver but rather not pay for it. I got a neat surprise when my dark umber order showed up silver
-
You won't be lucky this time around. HP has fixed the color issue now. To get the silver you will have to pay extra. You can call HP when you reorder and see if they will give you the silver since they messed up the color on your previous order.
One more thing the laptops at the moment are $50 less. HP is having a 4th of July sale. So even of you have to pay for the silver the base price of the laptop should work out the be cheaper than it was. Also there is a 8gb upgrade now in stead of 6! -
no that issue has been solved... they now give you clear options for the color... so no more mistakes... that means that now you will have to pay extra if you want the better steel grey...!
-
heyy...which $50 less are you talking about? I see the prices are the same... there is still the same coupon for the 30%off discount....
-
The prices of the laptops have gone down, 4th of July sale. Go get your credit
The price of the dv7t quad edition is now $1049.99 it use to be $1099.99 -
1049 is the price of the quick-ship model... the base price of the customized one is still 1099... so when I build up my configurations, it quotes the same price..
-
i reordered the laptop with the same specs with the silver color.
What is funny though, i ordered the laptop at the end of may and there was clear options to choose dark umber or silver. i received the silver color when i picked dark umber.
I returned it due to a gap that grew bigger between the plastic casing and aluminium in the upper left corner of the laptop near the hinge.
In the end, it was 25 dollars cheaper for me.
Thanks for the info everyone. -
Sorry if this has been asked but i really don't want to go through a 600 page thread.
Has anybody had any luck taking apart the DV6 for a repaste? Is the cpu/gpu easily accessible or does it require taking out the keyboard and a bunch of stuff? -
Basically the entire laptop has to be disassembled. Plus you obviously void any warranty so don't screw it up..LOL
-
Damn. Looks like no repaste for me.
-
I just don't think it's worth it since if you mess it up HP won't fix it.
-
Fingerprint reader is a game changer for me. Fast user switching is nice with the reader. I'm never getting another laptop without one.
-
I went by Costco today and guess what they had in stock?
Silver DV7-61XX, 8 gb, bluetooth, 750 GB HD and switchable graphics = $874.00 That is a steal. I couldn't pull up which card is in there 6470 or 6770, but that price is killer.
The DV6 was an IGP only unit without discrete for $799.00 in umber. -
hey I just checked that out... it says out of stock... do you think they will have it in a costco store?
-
Yes you have to gut everything to the left is my Dv7t gutted lol!! If you know what your doing its easy...but really its not worth it---if you dont know--wait till an idiot like me does it lol nah i joke im a Tech got the right tools..
-
I did mine My pic is the DV7T---NO seals to show hp you gutted system to check it out..I broke it down to make sure the B2 chip was out and B3 was in.
-
Lmao thats true--Some things are better off untold--
-
Did you disassemble the display too?
-
Didn't have any reason to disassemble display. Do you have a question about the display? maybe I can help you out! I have disassembled alot of displays.
-
hows the contrast and brightness of the dv7-6xxx normal display? help me
!?
