I don't really need it quickly; just need it for school.
Btw, anything I need to know about the dv6 like drivers to update, and the likes?

the only difference between the quick ship model and yours is the battery i think

the quick ship is 6 cell but you'd get it in a few days instead of over a month lol

and all your drivers and stuff are in the SWSetup folder in your main directory and if you ever reinstall using the recovery disc it automatically installs them

I already ordered my dv6tse, but I'd still like to know before I get it...

-what's the wifi adapter when choosing wifi + bluetooth? Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6200?
-what's battery life like on the 9-cell on the i5-2410m + 1gb 6770m? (and what about 6-cell?) HP's website says up to 9.75 hours but as with the Envy 14, I highly doubt that is true.
-anyone know what 4gb sticks HP uses in the dv6-61xx? (to upgrade from 4gb or 6gb to 8gb)

    Depends on what you ordered...
If you ordered a CTO model, it would be always an Intel Wifi 1000 bgn.
Then some broadcom bluetooth module if ordered.

Otherwise, it's either a ralink or a broadcom bgn card of various models.

    - I'm not sure about the wifi card in there... but I have heard people complaining that HP hasn't provided any options for an advanced wifi card... so I reckon it's got the basic and less powerful one
    - I get around 6 hours on my dv7tqe with i7 and 6770m while surfing and just doing basic stuff on low brightness... while gaming it goes down to around 1.5 hours.... you should be getting little more battery life considering the dual core cpu....
    - no idea which make ram sticks does HP use... but I don't think both the sticks have to be of the same make or speeds.... I'm not really sure though... so you may buy any kind of ram sticks for upgrading..

You can't use a coupon on the quick ship models. The coupons are for the customized dv6's

Now I have a better reason.
Guys, does the dv6 still have problems when paired with the 6770m and the 1920 display?

Also, here's what happend when I called HP to try and get a discount...

I customized my dv6 on the HP website and then applied tax and coupon - it was about a thousand bucks.
BUT, I couldn't get it to stack coupons, and the -150$ that's already there was replaced by $400 off, which meant it was only $250 off.
So, I called a sales rep and asked if I could have any more discounts - he said, "No, I'm very sorry."
OK - so i'll just buy online.
The rep, pauses, then says, "Well, actually, the coupon you're using, NBP61449, is EXPIRED. (This was yesterday). BUT, I can "revive it" so that you can still get the discount.
I told him, "It's not expired, i'm using it right now on the hp website."
    Silence for two minutes.
Then, "OK. May I have your phone number please?"
I hung up and bought it online

Actually, the $400 off IS taking $400 off, but it's taking it off the total price before the instant rebate. When you are using non-stackable coupons, you have to look where it says price: not where it says total, or price after savings. That's the number the $400 subtracts from.

However, you are right, the difference you see in the final price is only $250.

Can anyone run the following benchmarks without the CPU throttling?? I am using the performance mode cool sense setting and I've tried both the HP recommended and High Performance Power Options settings.

    MSI Kombustor <- Use D3D11
    Prime95

I used ThrottleStop and CPUID Hardware to monitor and log the CPU clocks.

    Throttle Stop
    HWMonitor

Is there any program that can detect temps for the discrete AMD gpus in the dv6 6100 models?

I installed hwmonitor onto my friends dv6 and it doesn't display the temps for the 6770m.

Go to the bigger screen (not the summary in hwinfo64) and click sensors. it will display them then. Also good to hear the hdd clicks aren't the result of a malfunction, now just to get this graphics situation fixed...

looks like the build date doesn't change for the dv7, it's only for the dv6....
also the state taxes have reduced....in my state, NC, it used to be 7.5%, it's now lowered to 6.67%... it makes a difference of about $12 compared to what I paid for the same configurations.... :D

Use Hwinfo32 and run the sensors. You will see both GPU's and temps. Again, I ask anyone and everyone with a Pavillion with Sandy Bridge to take the Throttle test...you can find it a couple of pages back. We found a glitch in the Envy 17 bios that HP fixed for us. Seems that under very heavy load, the CPU will throttle to 800 MHZ. This was do to bad power distribution between the CPU and GPU. We got the issue fixed by HP in a few weeks. I don't have my son's new Pavillion, yet, to test...or I would...if there is an issue, they already know how to fix it.

Guys, i have been reading horror stories about how the discrete gpu does NOT work on most applications using opengl.
Would this have a major impact on gaming? I play cod, starcraft 2, and wow.
    Plz help.

no. the large majority of games run on dx not opengl. The only popular game that I can think of that uses opengl is minecraft and recently released, spiral knights.

all the games you mentioned work perfectly on the device.

How well can this laptop play Crysis at 1080p?? The first one, not Crysis 2.

Also, this is going to be my first laptop, so I don't know anything about how to take care of the battery. Some tips? How do I reduce and slow down battery wear?
I've heard one should never overcharge a battery, i.e. once it's 100% then remove the charger. Then let it run down to less than 5-7% then recharge it to 100%. Is it true one should do this?
EDIT: Nevermind, found a big guide on this thing itself.

Hey guys, so we all now that it seems that the 1080p matte display is holding up orders for the dv6t, if you check Hp it adds an additional 2 weeks to the ship date. Is it possible that Hp is having problems supplying the screen?

Also is it possible we will be receiving a different 1080p panel then the one you guys received? Kind of worried that if they source a new panel that it will be of a worse quality then the one that all you guys have. Any help would be much appreciated.

You have voiced my primary concern. I really want the beautiful anti-glare 1080p screen, and if HP gives me anything that is even a little bit subpar, I am returning it. What with the graphic issues regarding OpenGL, a bad screen will be the final blow

Same, I better be receiving a panel that is of a comparable quality. Once I get my dv6t, I'll let you guys know if its a different panel and how the quality is.

samk0814, when is your ship date?

And if anyone else has received a 1080p screen lately and could check the screen model number that would be great.

    Thanks guys,

If you don't mind paying more, you can get the dv6190-us quick ship model.

I did that, and I got a $100 additional rebate with my EPP premier account. So in the end the price was almost the same.

Guys, is there is way I can speed up the boot up times of my dv7? Right now, it takes about 50 seconds to boot and about 15 seconds to shut down.... I expected faster boot up times from such a powerhouse machine....

50 isn't bad for a non-SSD. 15 is a bit slow for shutdown. My two DV6's took 10 seconds to shut down.

I was looking at the configuration for the dv6t-61xx models and noticed that it is possible to put 16gig of ram into them on two DIMM. Is the same board utilized for the 60xx series as for the 61xx? I guess I am just looking to know if it is possible to upgrade my dv6tqe-6000 to 16gig, if I so choose? Thanks!

My guess is, that if it is a different LCD panel, that it'll be brighter at least. 220nits is rather low for a 1080p screen. Everything else is good, but the brightness is low compared to other 1080p screens out there.

Someone mentioned using msconfig(boot/NoGUIboot checked) to set the boot for GUI mode off? This keeps the animated Windows logo and graphics from loading and being displayed on boot. Says it shaved off a second or two. ymmv

has anyone figured out a way to easily fix the "sticky Fn key" issue? (not physically sticky, but the fact that once you press it down and let go it behaves as though it was held the next time you press an applicable key)

i press it a lot because my old laptop had the fn & control keys flipped, so it would be nice for it not to be stick and behave like a normal modifier key. so far i've just been toggling beats intentionally any time i notice it.

OK, I have a question I need answered quickly. I just saw the 30% off coupon for laptops over $999, and I am going to cancel my order for the dv6tse and re-order. Should I upgrade the screen to the 1080p version, or upgrade the GPU from the HD 3000 to the 6770m?

yes, you have no other option...get the 1080p screen or don't buy a laptop...lol :D
I think you should instead go for a dv6 quad edition... it gives more value than the select ed if you customize it over $1000 with the discrete gpu.... there won't be much of a price difference, but you will get a much faster cpu... just that, if you want the 1080p screen, you gotta wait for a month... ;)

If you aren't playing games or using 3d applications and you don't need a graphics card, HD 3000 is just fine. However the 1080p matte screen is an upgrade that you will benefit from in all of your laptop usage.

Well, I decided that the graphics card was the better choice since at the very least I could get an external monitor to make the viewing experience better. I think the internal screen upgrade will be possible, but I rarely need very good graphics out of the house. One wierd thing though is that the estimated build date is just '10' not july 10, 2011, just 10. The estimated ship date is July 20, 2011 though. I cannot imagine it taked 10 days to get from the factory to Fedex.

Finally replacing my Core 2 Quad G72 Asus... and I only paid $1350 for the setup. Was pretty torn on the color choice, but ended on steel gray... If anything, it'll stay cleaner longer, even if it looks like a Macbook.

I'd say that's a good choice. The 1366x768 screen really isn't as bad as everyone says it is, and the 6770M adds a lot of versatility and future-proofing.

I ordered my dv6z on the 26th of June and my build date was '9'. My estimated ship date is the 7th, which is today. Hopefully nothing got messed up with my order.
