Hey does anyone know if the dv6t has an msata port?
-
-
How do you know that? Is there like a spec sheet with the motherboard specs or something of that sort?
The new envy 14 has an msata port -
I don't want to have to read through half of this thread for this answer, so if someone has it, please reply! =)
Do they have a 3rd party SATA transfer/power cable yet(for dv7)? If so, where?
As you can tell, I didn't want to order a second drive just to get the cable, just wondering when I can pull the trigger on getting a SSD. -
Hello, Does any one recommend installing a G.SKILL 4GB 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1333 where the 2GB Stick is to make it 8GB or it's not worth it..
Thanks. -
Hello Gentlemen,
I have been an owner of a DV6-6096 for less than a day and I am in great trouble, i would really appreciate your help.
I have been using a 4 year old Pavillion with 2GB RAM and Nvidia 8400M, and the screen had started showing nothing but red and blue pixels recently.
Yesterday i grabbed the last DV-6096 in my City, as all 6000 models are replaced by the 61xx models. It was on Display and it had 280GB of unallocated space!! (out of 1TB)
So i burned the recovery media - 4 dvds- and then installed Paragon Partition manager to fix the unallocated space issue and here where i did a HUGE mistake. As soon as i launched paragon it popped up a message asking me if i want to fix a problem in "an incompatible table size for each volume" including the RECOVERY drive D:
I made an uneducated guess at 5am and hit YES. Now the recovery drive lost its partition name ( D: ) but kept its label RECOVERY and disappeared from my computer; furthermore, the recovery manager cant detect it anymore and says it has been deleted. However, I can still see the 14.5GB recovery partition in the disk manager but it is inaccessible. Even Worse, the recovery disks dont recognize my system for some weird reason, i cant do a factory reset anymore!!
AND, i wasn't able to partition the unallocated 280GB!
So now I am on a laptop that has around 650GB instead of 1TB and a malfunctioning recovery volume and useless recovery disks.
I decided to do a Clean install of Windows 7 by formatting the hard disk. I have already backed up the drivers folder SWSetup and backed up my windows and license keys and burned a bootable Win7.iso
(using this guide: http://forum.notebookreview.com/windows-os-software/428068-legal-windows-7-download-links-just-like-vista-before.html )
The problem now is: The boot up win7 installation cannot detect my hard drive and keeps asking me to browse for my driver. i tried everything.
the Intel SATA AHCI RAID Controller driver (iaStor.sys) wasn't recognized by the installer. it wants a .info driver.
Inside SWSETUP>Drivers>Chipset>ALL there are many drivers including SATA chipset yet still no devices have been identified by the installer. I have the stock Toshiba 1 TB hard disk. I cannot proceed with the clean install!!
Please help. this is my first decent laptop in 4 years, its really sad.
Anyone tried a clean command prompt format followed by a fresh windows 7 installation? (not using the recovery disks) -
why don't you delete all partitions(with a windows 7 disk). Restart the computer and use the recovery disk to restore it back to factory.
-
So ya i cant delete any partitions from bootup without solving this driver issue. -
I'm not sure if this might work.
If you have a boot up disk of Paragon, use it.
Usually if a drive has unallocated space it won't show up, you might have deleted the partitions or something went wrong that the whole hard drive might be unallocated.
I would merge the partitions together if that was what you where trying to do and then select Create the partition so when you insert an installation disk of W7 it will show up. or you can delete the partitions, merge or not and create the partition. I think you might have forgotten to create it.
Usually to create a disk of Paragon is by having the professional one, and right now there are no giveaways of them. But if you do, go to another computer install it and select create a bootable disk.
I have the easus partition manager pro but I've used paragon before and both work around the same.
Hope this helps. -
If i load windows normally from C: i can easily see HP System partition and the C: drive. Win7 bootup wont see anything and asks to manually browse for drivers. where to get these from??
Could it get any worse guys? -

I got it fixed now.
I was using a USB flash to boot up my Win7 installation. I simply plugged it in the USB 2.0 instead of the 3.0 port and setup is no longer asking for drivers, it can see the all the partitions now. I can now proceed with windows setup. -
Glad you got it working!

first of all I tried to get Dell xps 15 with FHD display but no luck. where I live no local shop has one with FHD display (which is main cause why I liked the Dell xps 15).
Finally I decided to get hp dv6tqe, but again FHD is not available here , only HD display is available. and I can't order online here.
I know that HD display quality of dell xps 15 is very poor, so my question is what is quality of HD display of hp dv6tqe?? is it any good??
appreciate your opinion -

Anyone using Firefox 5 and wanting to use the fingerprint reader, I have good news! I just got an E-mail back from Authentec, makers of HP Simplepass 2011 and was told an update would release very soon to enable support for Firefox 5.
-
-
Fingerprint reader support are already in most major linux distributions for a long time.
They are not hard to enable and configure.
------
I would like to know if anyone figured out how to disable the mandatory login on registered site and web login via swipe only with the Simplepass 2011.
This was the reason I still used my old simplepass. Yes, it works with my FF5 with a workaround. -
-
That's odd, it should be available. The reader model you guys are using is over 6 months old. That really blows.

Hello, Does any one recommend installing a G.SKILL 4GB 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1333 where the 2GB Stick is to make it 8GB or it's not worth it. Or maybe buying two for $50($25 each).
Thanks. -
Okay, I just bought a dv7t quad edition with:
dv7t Quad Ed
dark umber
Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
2nd generation Intel(R) Quad Core(TM) i7-2720QM (2.2 GHz, 6MB L3 Cache) w/Turbo Boost up to 3.3 GHz
2GB GDDR5 Radeon(TM) HD 6770M Graphics [HDMI, VGA]
FREE Upgrade to 8GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
640GB 7200RPM Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
No Additional Office Software
No additional security software
9-Cell Lithium-Ion Battery (over-sized) - Up to 9.5 hours of battery life +++
17.3" diagonal HD+ HP BrightView LED Display (1600 x 900)
FREE Upgrade to Blu-ray player & SuperMulti DVD burner
HP TrueVision HD Webcam with Integrated Digital Microphone and HP SimplePass Fingerprint Reader
Intel 802.11b/g/n WLAN with Wireless Display Support
Standard Keyboard with numeric keypad
HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope
My question remains, are there still issues with the 2GB GDDR5 Radeon(TM) HD 6770M Graphics [HDMI, VGA] not working with openGL programs. I know that the automatic switching didn't work correctly on this particular video card when it came to openGL. I am planning on editing video and using adobe programs and want to amke sure there is now a manual option or atleast a fix to allow me to use the AMD HD Radeon as opposed to the one thats on the processor. Has there been a fix or patch for this from HP/Intel or AMD? Is it now possible to manually switch which video card works at specific times. Thanks a ton. -Andrew -

I posted my 3dmark06 scores in another post. They are not as good as a business laptop with non-switchable graphics and a lower-speed CPU. I don't understand if the OpenGL issues would cause this or not. Does anyone have any ideas why a business laptop with a slower CPU and esentially the same video card (with the business-based drivers) would have a higher score than mine?
I have the latest HP video drivers.

- Downgrade to the 1GB 6770M. For all practical purposes, nothing will be able to utilize even a full 1GB on this mid-range GPU. It's a marketing scam and you fell for it
- Upgrade to the 1920x1080 display. This is the most important thing, and as a video editor I'm surprised you skipped out on it. Having a higher res screen lets you fit more onscreen because things aren't as big, and in the case with the DV7 produces a MUCH better quality picture. For video editing, the screen is the most important spec. 1600x900 is too low of a resolution for a 17-inch video editing workhorse laptop, and aside from video editing it greatly improves "multitasking" in general because it lets you fit side-by-side windows with less scrolling.
Also no, the graphics switching has not been fixed yet. OpenGL will still run on the integrated graphics no matter what you do to try to enable the Radeon.
Just a tip for the future: it's generally a good idea to post your specs online for review before finalizing an order. -
Can anyone recommend a keyboard cover for the dv6t-6100? A link would be greatly appreciated.

Hi.
My friend is thinking about dv6 15,6' version.
What do yout think about this spec:
• dark umber
• Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
• 2nd generation Intel(R) Dual Core(TM) i5-2410M (2.3 GHz, 3MB L3 Cache) with Turbo Boost up to 2.9GHz
• 1GB GDDR5 Radeon(TM) HD 6770M Graphics [HDMI, VGA]
• FREE Upgrade to 6GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
• 750GB 7200RPM Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
• 30% OFF! 9-Cell Lithium-Ion Battery (over-sized) - Up to 9.75 hours of battery life +++
• 15.6" diagonal Full HD HP Anti-glare LED Display (1920 x 1080)
• SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-R/RW with Double Layer Support
• HP TrueVision HD Webcam with Integrated Digital Microphone and HP SimplePass Fingerprint Reader
• Intel 802.11b/g/n WLAN and Bluetooth(R) with Wireless Display Support
• Standard Keyboard with numeric keypad
He wanted 8gb ram, but it is not worth od 60$ at te moment, so I told him to buy 6gb, and in future he will sell 2gb and buy another 4gb if needed.
And now few questions - you wrote here, that 1080p screen is worth money, but is it good to work on high resolution on 15,6' screen? And how about resizing when playing? Full HD will be to much for this graphic card, it is comfortable to play on some lover resolution?
He need a lot of space, and he is thinking about 1TB 5400rpm hard drive - is it worth money? Or better stay with faster and smaller? And how slower is the 5400rmp drive? Will there be a diffrence?
And last question about battery, he want bigger one, but have a question how much higher is notebook with it? is it 1cm or more? Maybe can someone do a photo? He will be very grateful.
He doesnt need i7, so thats why i5 version (sometimes gaming, work with office, internet and movies).
What else would you change? Any help is really appreciated.
And sorry for mistakes (english isn't my primary language). -
-
Well, 6gb will have to be just fine. 60$ will stay in his wallet... It will go for mouse ang bag.
I will be really grateful for help with other questions. -
The 1080p is apsolutely worth it so don't change that. Better resolution aside, the screen is just much nicer. For gaming, lowering the resolution is fine and will still look nice (as long as you don't drop down to 800x600 or something).
If he really needs the space, the 5400rpm harddrives are fine IMO but some people on this forum swear by the 7200rpm harddrives saying that they are much faster. If size isn't an issue, consider the 17inch version which has 2 harddrive bays. You could get a small SSD for windows and a few programs then put a hard drive in the second bay for more space. Get the best out of both worlds (speed and storage that is). But if you go for the 5400rpm it's not like the computer is going to feel slow or anything. 7200rpm just accesses memory a bit faster.
For the 9 cell battery, I'd guess it raises it about an inch or so. I actually regret not getting it because the tilt on the keyboard is nice. -
yes get the 1080p screen, I got it and it's essential

how well does overclocking work with the dv6t SE. Cuz I plan on doing some intense gaming on it.
-
not possible yet
-
Is the trackpad a multitouch trackpad? If so, how is the quality and ease of use?
-
it is multitouch and it's fine but I've never seen a trackpad I didn't like
bigger than the trackpads i've used before -
Hi there,
This thread is over 110 pages long, and I got tired in 50 pages, so I thought I'd just ask again. I'm trying to play Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. The game says I need OpenGL 1.4.0 and that I have apparently 1.1.0.
I have the switchable graphics card, but the system only seems to recognize the Intel HD graphics card and not the Radeon 6770M. Now, what's the point of having the Radeon 6770M which should be openGL 4.0 and not getting to play the game I want to play? Is there any solution to this problem? Can I update OpenGL on a Intel chip? How do I even tell which Intel graphics card that is in there? All it says is Intel Mobile (R) HD graphics card. No model number or anything. This problem is being severely annoying.
EDIT: I have the dv6-6195ca model -
Read the FAQ that's stickied in this forum (HP). Also, Intel supports OpenGL 3.0, so I don't know why it doesn't work. I believe it may be a game specific bug.
-
I had a problem with the OpenGL version being too low on my laptop, also (needed an updated OpenGL for Angry Birds
). Try updating the Radeon drivers through Device Manager (right-click on Radeon and update driver). I don't know why this works, but it worked for me. You can update to the latest drivers from AMD after that if you want.

It's silly, I know. I'm coming back from a Mac and my collection of PC applications is well and truly out of date, so a decent photo editor and video editor included would actually save me from buying them. Already have Lightroom (PC & Mac) to manage my huge photo library and do light edits, but PS Elements would be nice for more creative editing.
