Says I have the latest drivers installed. Knights thinks I'm running 1.1.0. I don't know where to find the drivers for the intel set. Don't even know what model of graphics card I have from intel as it only says intel hd r mobile set.

Has elements and premiere elements on the recovery partition.

I am upset with this laptop as I'm not getting full functionality out of it. I have the 2GB dedicated graphics card that doesn't work and it's solely sitting on the integrated intel garbage.

OpenGL in any flavour is poor on this laptop.

Doesnt matter which version of OpenGL you require, will work horribly on the Intel IGP. That's what I mean. Minecraft, not a very taxing game on the GPU at all, runs like a jittery mess on the Intel IGP.

Basically, OpenGL support on this laptop is useless. On the discrete card it doesnt work and on the integrated card it runs like a joke.

    Hi guys and girls.

Im on my second unit from best buy as the first one had a really squeeky spacebar but on the second one i noticed that on the sides of the 1080p screen it seems to have trouble displaying dark black. Like screen burn.

Its makes dark black look faded and dark greyish. Its only along the bezel of the screen and only effects a minimal amount of the screen like less than half a cm of the edge of the screen. It seems to have the issue on both sides but the left side is a little bit more prominent than the right. It has no problem displaying colors nice and bright and vibrant but when things like the black windows loading screen, black wallpapers, or really dark scenes in a full screen movie does it become seen. I found in a VERY bright environment like bestbuy it is hard to notice the issue but in a low light environment with the screen brightness on highest it does become VERY noticable.

Ive asked a few friends to look at the screen to see if they could notice anything wrong with it and none of them picked it up as a issue untill i pointed it out to them. But soon as i pointed it out they clearly saw it. But the fact that they didnt even notice it right away makes me believe its not that big of a deal to the majority of people and the fact that this is my second unit so ive been purposly looking for problems and defects and could be me just being really anal.. lol.. Or that the best buy up here in canada got a bad batch of screens. Cause my last sony laptop didnt have this issue but it did have a way lower resolution and poorer view angle. So..

I was wondering if this if normal on these 1080P screens?

I returned the first unit i had with the squeaky space bar right away and am not sure if it had the same issue as this one, but the demo display model at my local bestbuy where i purchased this one seems to have the same screen issue. They dont have anymore in stock to look at tho so I was hoping that some other owners of the DV6-61XX with the full matte 1080P screen could shed some light on this issue and their experience with it as being normal or a actual screen problem with myn....

Heres a pic of the issue. [IMG]
    Thanks in advance...

Im guessing that you dont have this issue then?

I could definatly return it but the only problem is that they dont have the fully loaded DV6-6100 series available on the hp canada website yet. :(

Gotcha. I guess you can't switch back to the dedicated on this one too. Because I try to, and the computer still runs on the intel driver, not on the ATI Radeon. I think this is a common problem with this system?

Yes. Every 6100 series laptop has this problem. Cannot utilise the 6770m for OpenGL, but works fine on programs that run on DirectX.

I have a dv6tqe and I just bought Just Cause 2 and when I tried playing it, i was getting really poor fps. When I ran tests, I noticed that the game was running my Intel HD 3000 graphics which explained why it was running so badly. Is there a way to configure my 6770 so that it uses the dedicated for this game and other. It seems to work fine when I play BFBC2 and Mass Effect. Im sorry if this has been asked before. Thanks!

What kind of fps are you getting?

The game is using DX 10 so it should be running fine. Are you sure you aren't mistaken that the game is just so graphically advanced that you can't run it well?

I would go to your desktop, right click, click configure switchable graphics, and add Just Cause 2 .exe as a "High Performance".

Also make sure your laptop is in high performance mode when you are playing?

Maybe you turned on supersampling AA or some feature that makes the game run disproportionately slow?

Posted this in the order status discussion. Thought this would be the more appropriate place to post as well.
    =========
Here is some comparison to my 8740W DreamColor 2 screen (LGD0270), though its apples vs oranges. But just looking them side by side, here is the quick info.
    1. Viewing angle is almost usable 180 from side to side, becos the screen being antiglare. But, the color tends to go to the red side when deviating beyond 50 deg from the center.
    2. Viewing angle horizontal is almost useless beyond 40 degrees from center.
    3. Screen looks washed out and has a blue tint.
    4. Compared to my Old Dell(from memory), this is much better.

I checked and I should be able to run the game on high very welll with the 6770. When I run the benchmark, it says that it is using the intel integrated when it puts up the performance at the end. I checked and justcause2.exe is set at high performance on the catalyst control center. And antialiasing in turned off. Thanks for the suggestion though

I thought people have been saying they are of comparable quality. Why would you go through the hastle of returning your laptop for a screen that may or may not be better.

True, it might not make much of a difference. But when you go so far as to have that question in your mind all the time, nagging you, it's better off to relieve your mind and just exchange. Whenever you use your AUO screen, you're going to be thinking, "Should I have exchanged it?"

except tiny changes will be mind to this laptop all the time like it always has

the cpu will upgrade, the gpu will upgrade, backlit keyboard might get readded, etc

if you constantly send back your laptop for upgrades you're never going to get to enjoy the damn thing

No offense but that's stupid reasoning. If they are comparable screens, there would be no benefit in exchanging. On top of that, if his screen does not have dead pixels now, his new screen may get dead pixels.

Or if you're unlucky you might just get the same AUO screen again.

Not worth the hassle exchanging, imo.

Yeah seriously that would by quite unlucky to try to get the so called "better" screen, and end up with the same AUO, possible a different worse screen, or a screen with some dead pixels. I'm worried that the LG screen might be worse than the AUO screen which we know is good quality. I say stick with what you know.

In fact, the LG screen IS better than the AUO screen. It has 80 extra nits of brightness, and it has a higher contrast ratio. They both have the same color gamut (60%).

Are you guys referring to the AUO 1080P screen vs the LG 1080P screen?

I know my steel gray dv7-6100 has the LG and my umber dv7-6100 has a different model screen - I believe the AUO. I can take some comparision shots between the two. I compared them when I received my replacement umber and could not tell a difference with the naked eye.

coastal carolina, we would all really appreciate it.

By the way, can you make sure they are different screens using HWInfo?

I have a gut feeling that the difference in the screens will not be noticeable...also I am not so sure that the 300 nits specs is right, because there may be more than one version of the same screen. You know how there is a v0, v1, v2, v3, v4 for the AUO screen? The LG screen has "TFL3" at the end of it, which might be the equivalent for the version #?

Cause...I loaded all my junk on the laptop and I'd rather not return it :-/

Well, LG has blanket specs for all of the LP156WF1 models so I think that the TFL3 refers to something else.

My laptop doesn't have any sticker anywhere mentioning it's serial number. Is this normal? It's box does have the serial number. Any way I can find it out in my laptop to tally the SNo mentioned on the box?

It only has a sticker mentioning the Windows 7 serial no.

EDIT: Found it, it's under the battery.

    O.K.
I just joined the club, I bought hp dv6tqe with following specifications:
    CPU: i7 2630QM, GPU: AMD 6770m (1 G.), RAM: 8 GB., HDD: 1 TB., DISPLAY: 1366x768 (CMO)

I have one annoying problem, my fan seems to work at max. speed continuously, it is loud and audible.
I updated to latest BIOS, tried changing CoolSence setting, disable fan always on in BIOS, but the fan kept going loud.
my CPU temp while idle (45-52)C / stress (87-91)C
    GPU idle (50)C / stress 82C
the CPU only throttle during extreme stress (prime+future) tests

the strange thing that the fan speed is always at the same speed (loud) during idle and stress condition without change!!!

    Please advice, thanks.

I'll post my palmrest query here too, for wider coverage.

In my 6121tx, the left palmrest gets unmanagably hot when I'm gaming. It's hard to keep my palm there without some cloth or something underneath.
Are other 6xxx owners experiencing something similar? Or is the heating present but and mild managable under GPU stress (temp 80-85oC in my case)?

Just an FYI for dv7tqe buyers who may be concerned about which FHD screen they will get: per HWiNFO64, the 1920x1080 matte screen on the one I received yesterday afternoon is the AUO159D (B173HW01 V5), which I believe has a 72% NTSC color gamut.

    This screen is top-of-the-line.

On that note, time to burn-in this unit before deciding if she's a keeper!

Yep on mine its hot too after long gaming session with SC2. I tend to use a small external keyboard to play tho so dont touch the area as often. Need a better keyboard than a laptop one to play SC2 anyway as Im mashing away at the hotkeys all the time so Im not really affected.

I heard the dv6t-61xx rejects the Intel Centrino 6230 card. Has anyone tried putting a Centrino 6200 card in?

Maybe it's old enough that it's part of the BIOS whitelist?

The 6200 and the 6300 will get rejected without a doubt.
Those are offered in the envy series.

The bios between 6000 and 6100 are the same. People in the 6000 had already tried it with the latest bios.

HP Bios update usually add and remove cards.

The idea of a whitelist, is that only a set of items are allowed and everything else outside that set are rejected.

On a different note, has anyone tried getting refunds out of HP for their hardware/upgrade options not working?

I just learned HP's Bluetooth 3.0 is worthless junk (incompatible with Nokia phones) so I want $25 back for that. (Apparently Intel Centrino 1030 Bluetooth is compatible with Nokia phones, so I assume Centrino 6230 would work too... how much money you could've saved HP if you didn't use wireless cards inferior to the Centrino 5100 from 3 years ago...)

And of course there's AMD OpenGL. Anyone tried getting a $125 refund for that >_>

Well I had a 5100 in my Pavilion dv3t which worked fine, but I did know a friend with a 5100 in a Sony Vaio which was fail. Maybe it was luck of the draw.

So while looking for Bluetooth 3.0 drivers for the dv6t on HP's site (apparently we're looking for Ralink), I spotted the following driver:

    Intel 1030 & 6230 Bluetooth enabler

    want an explanation, HP...

A guy I called at the HP Parts Store said that this Probook/Elitebook part should be compatible with the DV6T-6XXX:

    631954-001 Intel Advanced-N 6205

No bluetooth but at least you get 5.0 GHz. I ordered one but not sure if I will be able to test it as I am in the process of returning all laptops.

    Does this seem unreasonable?

I ordered 1st laptop on April 4th, received May 7th. This laptop had a bad mobo so returned it. BTW this was a Dv6-6000 series CTO pre-BACON (gfx auto-switch). Except for the issues stemming from the mobo this was a great system.

Replacement received July 6th. This was a Dv6-6190us with auto-switch. Despite setting the switching properly it was causing issues with games, notably Dawn of War 2 was crashing. Drivers could have fixed the issue but the battery doesn't latch into the compartment. Defective laptop no. 2.

Prior to shipping laptop number 3, I was promised that coupons would transfer, etc etc. And that I would receive an additional $100 discount for having had to deal with 2 bad laptops and not having a system 3 months after paying for one. Long story short, they tried to renege and offered me $30. Then $50. I told them I didn't want anything more to do with them.

So who is the unreasonable one? Me for demanding something that I was promised but was apparently not doable? Or HP for trying to shaft me after taking my money 3 months ago?

Firstly, I have a Nokia phone... and my dv7's bluetooth works with it...
Anyways, getting credits is easy, just sound very unhelpful and grateful to the rep... and say that you can't wait for them to fix it for you....they will grant you compensation.... :D
