Hi everyone, my new hp dv6 (6090ee) using the stock driver resulted the following benchmark score:
    3D Mark 2011 = p1541
    3D Mark Vantage = p6440
after updating AMD driver to latest hp driver (8.830.6.2000) the benchmark scores decreased:
    3D Mark 2011 = p1525
    3D Mark Vantage = p6224

should i update to new ATI driver (11.6). Does it have better performance??
    thanks

Hey guys. Would you consider a harddrive loud, if you can hear it when youre sitting back, in your chair, and can still hear it? Its just this small annoying sound, which im a bit worried about.

I seem to be having trouble with my battery: it doesn't charge above ~75%, though it does say it's still charging. I've tried reinstalling the "ACPI Fixed Feature Button" as per HP Tech Support, but it still doesn't charge above 75%. This laptop is brand new. Does anyone know what's wrong with it?

    Thanks in advance!

EDIT: Talked to HP Tech Support again, and they 1-day shipped a 6-cell battery :)() to me when I gave them evidence even though I had a 9-cell battery. Oh, well, at least they didn't ask me for the defective battery! :D

don't be surprised if your new battery comes with a RMA label to ship your defective battery back ... that is how Dell handles things...

I tried to update 6770m driver, from AMD site:

    ATI Catalyst? Mobility Display Driver

but the installer gave error message:
"the version of your graphic adapter is not supported, please contact your notebook manufacturer for graphic driver update"

    any suggestion. thanks

My dv6t battery release latch is jammed, it only slides ~0.5cm to the left and gets stuck there. I broke one of my nails trying to release the battery, it's totally jammed in.

Did this happen to anyone? What should i do to release it?

You can't update drivers from the website. Go to the FAQ stickied in this forum and download the drivers from the first post.

Are you sure you're sliding it the right way? One way releases the battery, the other way releases the access panel on the bottom. The access panel release will do what you're describing if the battery hasn't been released. Did you try sliding it the other way...?

It's slided all the way to the right, is it supposed to be in the middle? Anyway it's jammed and i can't move it to the left (opening position) now.

This picture explains the situation, i can't move it to the left any further:

Your access panel is probably not on correctly. Try taking it off and reseating it.

Can anyone tell me how the 1366x768 screen is for the HP dv6t? I would have liked the HD one, but since I'm stuck with this one i was just wondering if it's sufficient before my order gets sent out

Why are you stuck with that one? It's functional, but inferior to the 1080p screen.

The 1366x768 screen is fine. I owned it for awhile, and it was imo a slightly better than average screen. If you aren't a screen fanatic, you'll be fine with it and even love it. You won't know what you are missing until you take a higher level screen and put it side by side.

I think the FHD display worth the upgrade cost.

Just got off chat with HP Support. I don't know if this was mentioned in one of the 718 pages, but if you're looking for Eyefinity support (three+ displays, in this case built in + HDMI + VGA) you won't be getting any. The agent I spoke with said that Eyefinity is limited to the ENVY 14 and 17.

Any way to enable Eyefinity sans HP consent?

I would think if there was manual switching you would be able to use Eyefinity.

I gave them this screenshot of the battery checker (from HP Support Assistant) showing the battery needed to be replaced because the charge capacity was only ~40% normal.

Haha, that's the great part. I asked the HP Rep directly if they required my battery back, and they said no, though you needed to do that if I wanted to receive a 9-cell battery for my defective 9-cell. This way, I only got a 6-cell in exchange, though it saves me the hassle of having to send back my battery and having to go for a week without it. :D

You know from my experience having a product replacement, is that they'll send you the product out first with a prepaid label so you can send the defective product to them.

I've had to get something replaced during the warranty and that's what they did they send me the item first, then I have to package the item in the same box, put the prepaid shipping label included and send it back. They would require a some form of credit card just in case you don't send the defective product back, but I've made sure and everything has gone well when I did this.

So you wouldn't be out of battery during that time.

Would you guys seriously consider getting this laptop despite the graphics problem? There's no absolute promise-- I ordered one and I'm sending it back so I can use my $ on a cheaper solution.
'Cause other than the switchable graphics problem, I really like how this laptop looks, and sounds. It's the medium of everything I'm looking for, but I might do some work with photoshop/after effects.
With that being said, should I just get the HP and just deal with the wait for the BIOS update?

Since you said you "might" do some work in photoshop and after affects, it would seem that you are a casual user and not professional. If that's the case the Intel HD 3000 should get the job done for you, and the switchable graphics problem would not really matter.

Start > HP > HP Recovery Manager > System Recovery

might want to back up important files first though. if that doesnt work, if you've made em, use the recovery disks.

I have a dv7-6014tx with manual switching and even when running off the 6770M the intel driver manages the displays and colour management.

Disabling the Intel 3000 results in a black screen, but after that its possible to restart and it works without it. Possibly from there one could try installing stock ATI drivers and try using those with eyefinity support.

    Mux = manual switching
    No mux = dynamic switching

so yes 60xx have the display multiplexer.

Hello everyone, I haven't really been using headphones with this laptop but tonight I did, and I found this very light beeping noise and white noise when my headphones are plugged in.

It does this regardless of beats being on or off, does anyone else experience the same thing? I haven't heard any beep when using a speaker...strange.

It only makes a beeping noise if the computer is doing something, IE: I'm clicking something or opening a folder; Something of that sort.

if that beep is heard only when you click on something or open a folder, it's absolutely normal... that is a default windows sound at least since Windows XP... If anytime else, you might wanna figure that out... BTW you seem to be new to Windows..!

Guys, my dv7 has something going wrong... It freezes randomly.. It has frozen (hung up) 2-3 times in the last couple days.... It's not that it was overload or something... just basic stuff... Once it froze when I tried opening up the Youcam software... the other time, it had the screensaver on, and when I tried getting back, it froze up... the first time it froze up when I tried closing firefox... What should be done to correct this issue? Is there some problem?

Also, I have been getting just about 5 hours of battery life with just wifi on along with firefox (2-3 tabs) and windows explorer with lowest brightness... Shouldn't I be getting something close to 9.5 hours, as advertised on the HP website?... Is what I'm getting normal?

    Thanks

Yes, certainly NOT as advertised, but probably closer to reality. I get about ~3hrs(9 cells) without any energy conservation at all, but also not taxing the unit playing games... just a mix of everything I normally do (9.5hrs is a pipedream)
