yes. so would it be possible to discuss just the 1080p display for dv7, at this moment -- I haven't yet seen the evidence that this display is the same as found in the envy 17, although that would be wonderful if true.

I did not get the LG matte panel. I got: AUO B173HW01 V5 matte. So they are still sending AUO ones out. That being said...I am very pleased with this panel.

Hardware Monitor shows mine as the LG:

    MONITOR\LGD0283

and it's beautiful :) I still think it's the best lapotop monitor I've ever seen.

New bios just released today has the fixed/dynamic switching graphics working now as well!

Guys I need help. I have had my laptop for about 6 weeks and up to this ppoint it hasnt worked at all (BSOD and failure to load from first boot, only fixable by disabling ATI Drivers). I have gone through the process of them sending a recovery disk (even though I explained the problem wasn't my retail windows install), then sending it for repairs (only to come back still showing ATI driver error and back to square one once I updated the driver). I was talking with customer support, and first the person agreed that I could RMA this one back and get a replacement order put in with same price. Then while I am on hold the call drops, call back in and now they say that they don't know who I was talking to but that isn't possible (I even had an RMA number) additionally I will have to send it in AGAIN to these tools to see if they can (NOT) fix it again and waste my time, I told them to escalate and she said someone higher up the chain would call me within 24 hours. I am now 2 weeks away from starting business school and I am really screwed. My back is against the wall and I don't know what I can do.
Can I issue a dispute through my CC? (since I never received a working computer)
Should I send an email to the CEO posted in one of the other threads?
Should I file a BBB report?
What is the best course of action?

ok then it appears that there is more than one possible panel. accepting that what the hardware monitor is correct i now see that we have direct evidence of --

    1. the AUO B173HW01 V5. i can't find specs for v5 but i find specs for v4, which really does specify 90% gamut. wow. thats enough to cause some colors to be incorrect *WITHOUT* calibration!

    2. the LGD0283. again, i can't find specs for this one either, except for indirect evidence that this is the same one reported to be used on the envy 17, for which hp HAS provided specifictions that it is 72% color gamut, i.e. the same as sRGB. yay.

thanks guys this might be enough for me to push the buy button on this puppy.

Just a FYI, most (or at least the ones I've come across) AUO panels have different specs between "versions" (V1, V2, etc.). I wouldn't bet on the V5 having the same specs (e.g. same gamut) as the V4.

    edit: dlleno's got it.

so it does appear that hp has sourced more than one panel; the good news is that they both appear to be 72% gamut panels.

Okay, I just updated my dv7's BIOS to the latest version released today which apparently should support the use of one gpu at one time enabling manual switching. But I don't find any difference in the 'configure switchable graphics'. Its all the same, you have to select which application should use which gpu... So is the switchable gpu issue unfixed yet... Or there is some other way to access manual switching..?

The new BIOS for the 60xx also mentions enabling support for fixed mode switching, haha. Unfortunately it doesn't do anything useful, just had a look after installing it.

Okay, so which of these is actually the newest version of BIOS? -
    - F.1A ( the one that got released yesterday)
    OR
    - F.17 (the one that all current orders are shipping with)

I know that the F.1A that came out yesterday seems to be supporting manual graphics switching, but is that really the latest one... F.17 doesn't seem to be available for download, however all current orders are shipping with them... So is F.17 the newest version? If yes, it should support manual switching too, being a successor of F.1A
    Lemme know your views...

What? The one that was released yesterday is obviously the latest one. It's easier to post a file on a website for people to download than it is to release a new BIOS image to all manufacturing facilities.

    Hello everyone.

I just got a new Pavilion dv6-6071eo. I have a major problem with it though.

As soon as I plugged in my in-ear headphones (a pair of Shure SE215 for you who are wondering, so 20 Ohm impedance, which is actually a little more than the usual 16 Ohm you find in cheaper models) I noticed a pretty loud hiss, or static as it most people call it. I can't hear the static when listening to rock or similar music at good levels but in calm classical music it is very much noticable (for example when listening to the Richard Stoltzman/Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra - Maid with the Flaxen Hair sample that came with the computer isn't very nice, as the strings almost get drowned in the noise).

I have since then searched everywhere and have not found anyone who have complained about static on the new Pavilions, more the opposite because of the Beats Audio-thingie (which my laptop also have of course). The only HP computer affected by this seem to be the "envies".

So, my question is: Do you who also have somewhat better headphones with "low" impedances also have a noticable hiss, and if so how do you handle it? Ignore it? Bought an attenuator?
Or is this actually a serious problem with my computer only?

Oh, and solutions I have tried:
    Muted/disbled/"listened" everything and so on.
Disabled the power saving (which at leastremoved the glitchy beeps when powersaving).
    Upgraded/uninstalled/downgraded the audio drivers.
Nothing has helped. Except the static goes down a little when powerssaving is on and kicks in (but what does that help me =P)

TL;DR: My new dv6-6071eo has a very noticable hiss/static when using 20 Ohm SE215 headphones. Is this a common problem or not?

    I third this, but -

since HP apparently doesn't sell the Centrino 6230 (even though they have SoftPaq drivers for it for the 6100 series!), it would be more worth our time to get them to whitelist the Centrino 6205...

Thanks for the help, I was actually able to pull up the number from another thread that someone posted an email. It would be good if that number be posted on one of the sticky threads in this forum.
In conclusion, the person from HP was able to arrange the return of this laptop and order me a new one for the exact same price, in fact she upgraded my dvd burner to blueray player+dvd burner(I do end up with both charges on my card until the RMA goes through, also she said the price difference between new laptop and original one will be given to me as a future credit when I receive the laptop). If it ships on time, it still wont arrive for orientation but it should be here for start of school.

Thanks for everyone's help, I'm crossing my fingers that the replacement doesn't have any problems.

For anyone who may be interested: I called HP and after making sure I had reinstalled the latest drivers and latest BIOS they asked me to do a system reset. Which of course didn't help.

So, I'm sending the computer in for repairs later this week.

But. I would still appreciate if anyone could tell me if they have the same kind of problems and how they dealt with it.

    Intel HD: 8.830.6.2000

AMD Graphics: 8.871.0.0 (unofficial 11.7 driver)

I don't think that the BIOS update changes the drivers at all. However, it is interesting to note that when using the "Power Saving" mode, only the Intel graphics appears in device manager, but when using "High Performance" mode, both the AMD and Intel graphics are listed.

The dv6t only has one hard drive bay, but if you're talking about the dv7t, then I don't think it does, it just isn't accessed if nothing is reading/writing to it (iTunes library, documents, i.e. anything stored on that drive), but it's always on.

    Correct me if I'm wrong.

yes for the dv7t-quad, when configured with dual HDDs, i assume one is primary os and the other is secondary data storage. if one is not accessing the secondary drive, i was hoping it would spin down into standby mode of some sort
