It just came to me that I did notice one wierd thing while installing Windows 7 Ultimate a few days ago. During setup, I erased all existing partitions on both drives. I had Drive 0 selected and clicked on next. Once Windows was installed, It made a 100MB System Partition on Drive 0 but made a C drive out of Drive 1. The rest of Drive 0 was left alone. I then reinstalled Windows again, erasing all partitions, then selected Drive 1 and clicked next. After windows was installed, it showed both the 100MB System Partition and the C Drive on Disk 1 and Drive 0 was left alone. Its not causing any issues but, i thought that was a bit weird that it doesn't install both on Drive 0 which is the first drive.

 

Does or has anyone else ever been typing and all of a sudden the cursor moves somewhere else? It is random but all of a sudden im typing and then im typing on a different line or it erases what I was typing. I didn't know if this was a common problem with this model

 

Avoid resting your hands on your touchpad, it's likely you hit your touchpad

 

You can also turn off the trackpad by double tapping the square in the upper right hand corner. Tap again to enable trackpad. That, or if you have a wireless mouse, someone is screwing with you.

 

My touchpad is off and has been since I got it. So if its off is it just a defect then?

I guess the PLL isn't of much use anyways with SB since if you move it much past 105ish you get some PCH funkyness showing up in your OS.

 

Reflex, can you explain your build? How do you have a quad core i7 with a select edition dv6t?

 

Before the summer they offered quad core with the SE. I asked him already lol.

 

Does anyone know the specification on the memory installed on a DV6T Quad Edition (8GB RAM & i7-2720QM)? Like is it PC3-8500 or PC3-10600? Thanks in advance for any help!

Never-mind, I found out that it ships with PC3-10600 which is the fastest specification that is certified as compatible.

 

That's not quite right. I have a 2720QM and it runs PC3-12800 fine. Its the 2630QM that's meant to be PC3-10600 but in reality PC3-12800 runs fine on it too, though not officially supported by Intel.

I have the graphics set to switch to power saving gpu when on battery and every time I plug in and it switches to high performance firefox and any open tabs will become blacked out and I have to close the browser. It is fine going from high performance to power saving and firefox seems to be the only program ive noticed had this problem. Are other people experiencing the same thing and is this a common problem?

 

It is common problem with fixed mode with Intel Chipsets.

There is a warning to close all running applications prior before switching.

That is a reason why it had that warning.

 

OK, I forgot about that warning and disabled it after it popped up a few times because it was rather annoying.

 

Has anyone noticed that retail stores (at least Bestbuy) sells a black DV6T? It's just like dark umber, just pure black instead of having the brown-ish tint. It looked about 100x better than the silver I currently have. Anyone know if that's a passing option or if it's a quickship/retail exclusive?

 

Are you sure it's pure black? I doubt it - the dark umber looks almost black anyways.

 

BB I think has some way of protecting against fingerprints for their display models. But I'm pretty sure they are dark umber, which is black enough that anyone not staring at it under light would just say it's black.

 

I was just in Best Buy yesterday, I can assure you it is not black(Borat?).

Are there any coupons running for the HP DV6 series? I know the 30% one expired recently.

Stackable as in it goes on top of the other discounts (instant savings). So the 15% comes off the already discounted price.

the 30% coupons negate the discounts and get taken off from the base price. These comes out quite close.

Nope. Only 1 coupon code can be used per cart. They seem to be invalid anyway.

I'm 100% it was. They had a dark umber colored DV7T right next to it! The difference was clear.

BTW, I've seen the dark umber DV6T in the SoHo Bestbuy store in NYC too. The black one I saw was in Union Square, incase anyone cared to even check it out.

I just checked it out, it's a really great coupon because it adds up the 15% discount over the default discounts given by HP.... the base configuration was $999 for a while, ie. $250 instant discounts, so this coupon would give an additional 15%off on that price.... Also, this coupon exempts us from TAX...(at least in my state NC)
So overall a well customized dv7 with 1080p screen would cost around $1050.... the dv6 even lesser....
So this coupon makes a great deal, probably better than the much-in-demand 30% coupons...

 

Coupons can't exempt you from tax. Why do you think it is?

The hp is much better at gaming than the XPS 15. The HP comes with the 6770m GPU which is 35%ish better than the 540m the XPS 15 can get. (the 525m is weaker than the 540m)

Tax can be upwards of 100 bucks sometimes. You might want to send it back and re-order.

 

That would be the only way to do it. My tax was only a little more than $50 so im not too concerned, but for states with higher tax it might be worth it.

sorry if I missed some details, but here's how it looks to me: so you placed your order prior to aug 7 and now you want them to apply the sales tax promo that just appeared? My guess is that they wont do it, but if the difference is worth chasing then yea I agree with jaguare3 you can always re-order at the lower price right now, and send the first laptop back (they come with pre-paid shipping). the only thing you have to loose is time. Call resolutions first, and if they can't see through that game and offer you the difference, than you have to play it their way.

I had to pay sales tax for my recent DV7t order.... I'm lucky the current price is not lower than what I paid, and mine is shipping aug 17

 

This is already my second laptop.... There is no way I'm sending this back again...! For the tax, it's alright... I have already got a $100 compensation from HP on this laptop, so it covers it up...

 

Damn, I ordered my dv6qe on Sunday with the $375 coupon.. and now this 15% stackable coupon shows up, would've saved me around $40.
