I've clean installed a million times it seems on a number of systems, but I just couldn't get the damn fingerprint reader to work. Even asked an HP support person as a last resort (useless as expected).
I didn't do anything to tweak it really... it just works. 25 seconds for a restart btw.![]()
I do want to migrate the Chrome cache to my HDD... but just haven't gotten around to it.

Any good deals on the hp dv6t quad edition? I'm thinking about replacing my brothers old dv5t from 3 years ago with this laptop....if I can get it around $500 - $600 range (including taxes).

Hey Guys
I have a HPDV6t-2300 with the following configurations
Intel i7-720QM
6GB RAM
320GB HP HardDisk (Hitachi HTS725032A9A)
Optical Drive (DVD RW AD-7586H)
I am not sure as to how to check about my motherboard
HP P55/PM55/3400 Series
Nvidia Geforce GT320M
I am considering the following two options, either :
1)Upgrade my current hard disk to the Seagate Momentus XT 500GB (Hybrid)
2)Use my existing hard drive with a caddy drive in the place of my optical drive while adding a smaller size SSD hard drive.
the problem that I am having at the moment with option 2 is that when I check the SATA connection for the optical drive, it is rated as SATA150. I am not sure whether that is due to the limitation of the optical drive itself or the connection on the motherboard is only SATA1. On the other hand, the original hard drive connection is a SATA300.
Is there someone who can clarify my doubts?
Thanks ahead -
Hi nemalbeckham,
I imagine that's the speed of the optical drive. You want to check the speed of the SATA controller... check out this post:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-pavilion-notebooks/562249-hp-dv6t-dv7t-select-edition-quad-edition-6xxx-series-owners-lounge-817.html#post8031899
Keep in mind that a controller has multiple ports (one to your current HDD, and one to your current optical drive), so the one SATA controller has a speed, which is available to each SATA connected device. -
There's a "digital media slot" on the DV7, but it only takes two kinds of memory sticks? Doesn't take the Sony Memory Stick Pro Duo or such? Just SD cards and Media Card?
Thanks in advance. -

Already asked in the Battlefield 3 thread with no response, so here we go again...
I tried to install Mobility 11.10 on top of the official HP driver. Now all my GPU monitoring programs (gpu-z, afterburner, trixx, gpu shark) won't recognize the version of catalyst, and according to ccc my driver packaging version is still 8.830.6.3000.
Any idea guys? -
Does CIM post report shown the display driver successfully installed or failed? Did u try reinstall it again?
-
Apparently CIM said my driver is already up to date, and thus didn't install any display driver, just catalyst.
Gonna try to reinstall. -
Try download and install this version instead..
AMD Catalyst Mobility 11.10 Win 7 | Vista (64-bit)
-
Err... Why do I need the 32 bit version?
Gonna try anyway, tks. -
.. sorry didn't notice. already update the link to 64 bit.
-
11.10 finally worked. I felt so proud.
Thanks so much @xAcid9 -
your welcome.

Hey Everyone!
I am planning on getting an dv6t Quad Edition and am in need of some advice and testimonials to help me decide if this is right for me. I currently have a 1st gen HP Envy 17 and it runs way too hot, fan is always on, no switchable gfx, and terrible battery life. It has got to the point where I am ready to get rid of it and move to a pavillion. So my question regarding the dv6t quad would be the following:
1. How is the heat on this thing?
2. Is the fan constantly on?
3. Does it have switchable graphics?
4. Average time on battery power (general use)?
5. Anything to be weary about with the dv6t?
Any and all help is appreciated! Thanks -
1. The heat is good, never overheat before even with overclocked GPU. Do note that left palm-rest will get warm.
2. No.
3. Yes, AMD HD6770M + Intel HD3000.
4. I could get around 5 hours while surfing the web + listening to some song with 6 cell battery. With iGPU of course.
5. Updating the graphic driver could be a nightmare if you couldn't adapt. The dynamic switching on 61XX series aren't able to switch to dGPU for OpenGL application like Google Sketchup, Photoshop CS, Auto Cad, etc. (fixable with manual switching in BIOS) -
Does Photoshop Elements 10 run fine on the intel GPU or would it need the dGPU to run properly.
-
-
^ What is your discharged rate when on battery? Mine around 8-11 watts.

Since no one seems to want to reply there

Any ideas? This is very frustrating -
edit, wow what a pita! if anyone's gadgets turn into a small white box, search from start menu "default programs" then "set program access and comptuer defaults" then select microsoft. that took me like 10 minutes of googling to figure that out! lol. no idea what i did.
anyways, i'm hovering around 12-13 on custom balanced power options, aero on, nearly full brightness. i switched it to power saver and it's about 10.5ish. xAcid, whats your settings? which laptop do you have? -
Can a few of you do me a favor and run this: DPC Latency Checker
I'm getting values between 130us and 400us, with spikes of over 1000us (max 3761us). I know that's not good and I'd like to know if it's something on my end or something with HP's design.
edit: weird, after a restart I get between 80 and 130us and no spikes, a much more normal reading. Still interested in others' though. -
^
That might be due to either network card or bluetooth...or basically a driver misbehaving...I could never figure out exactly were the issue usually is. -
Can someone tell me what model number is the most current of the dv6t quad edition (or the regular dv6t).
Is it 61xx or 62xx or even 63xxx?
I'm trying to see if Best Buy has it in stock or not. -
-
It should be the 6bxx are the current models but it'll be a while until they put more as I just looked and this is the only one with the newest model:
HP - Pavilion Laptop / Intel® Core i5 Processor / 17.3" Display / 8GB Memory / 750GB Hard Drive - Dark Umber - dv7-6b55dx -
So I changed my HDD for an SSD and then did a limited/small restore (the one without all the bloatware).
Everything is working awesome except for some reason, none of the 3DMark programs work anymore (they all worked on the old HDD wihtout any issues). Anyone seen this after a HDD swap?
(the only other issue is that one of my usb ports only seems to provide power, but not data...but I'm pretty sure that's gonna be a driver issue) -

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/HP+-+Pa...mber/3441067.p?id=1218402870055&skuId=3441067
I found the above AMD dv6 on Best Buy's website and if what the other poster is telling me is correct this looks like one of the latest if not the latest model released by HP. And it seems like a pretty nice deal.... -

Hi, im a proud new owner of this laptop and would just like to ask a simple question. When I play a game is there a way to lower/raise sound volume using the keys on the laptop? It seems it only works when im using windows directly.
Thank you a sorry if its a stupid question. Its my first laptop xD -
One option would be to install this program (3RVX): 3RVX Download Screen
I use this on some of my comps, and it's great.
It provides a on-screen display which should also work over any program even in full screen mode. And it allows you to hold down the windows button on your keyboard while using your scroll wheel on the mouse to change volume. Pretty nifty. Just be sure to check the preferences on it to set up everything how you would like it. -

Hey owners,
A routine BIOS update will be available for the dv6-60XX / dv6-61XX / dv7-60XX / dv7-61XX Intel series. This update is not for the dv6-6bXX / dv6-6cXX or for the dv7-6bXX / dv7-6cXX series.
Version: F.1B
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp55001-55500/sp55068.exe
Visit the Pavilion BIOS thread for more information on what's new. -
Note: Threads now merged.
I provided a subtle hint above, but HP will also be releasing a minor refresh to the INTEL-based dv6 and dv7 soon - it will be called dv6-6cXX and dv7-6cXX series (where "X" is a numeric digit). The refresh will be physically similar to the current dv6-6bXX and dv7-6bXX lineup.
However, HP will be updating the graphics cards in this next refresh!
From HP Softpaq SP55092:
AMD Radeon Graphics Driver
Version: 8.882.2.3000
Code:PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_6760="Radeon (TM) HD 6490M" PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0116="Mobile Intel(R) HD Graphics" PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_6740="Radeon (TM) HD 6770M" PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0126="Mobile Intel(R) HD Graphics" PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_6760="Radeon (TM) HD 7470M" PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_6740="Radeon (TM) HD 7690M XT"
Let the discussion continue... -

i dont know what XT stands for but isnt 7690 kinda like a downgrade from 6770?
-
-
If there is a refresh...won't we have to pay to get it upgraded still?
-
naturelover12321 Notebook Consultant
if it was a rebadge wont it be named 7770m?
-
Oh man, I hope that refresh really is minor. I just ordered a dv7 a week ago. :\
-
Like several others, I'm really interested in whether or not the new 7XXX series cards are refreshes or are of the up and coming Southern Islands series. The difference would seemingly be significant.
Based on all I've read though (which may not say much), I'm kinda doubting that these are of the 28nm variety:
http://www.fudzilla.com/graphics/item/24914-graphics-card-makers-concerned-about-hdd-shortage
There is still a little hope though. This article technically only says that the high end Southern Islands cards won't be available until next year:

Sorry for asking this question but is there any 5GHZ wireless card with bluetooth that work on the HP Pavilion dv7t-6b00 CTO Quad Edition?
-
Hi guys, I recently bought a customizable HP DV7t 6b00 CTO with a 6770m and it's working well right now but how do I get upgraded drivers for 6770m? I went on AMD's website and I did a "scan and install" but even then it says I don't have the correct hardware. The HP AMD drivers that I did updated it with worked but it's months to years old, so is HP not allowing me to update drivers that are many months old?
-
with the news of the new 7xxx cards, should I postpone buying a dv6t-qe? I just placed an order last night. Thanks!
-
Install at your own risk. Any problems, neither AMD or HP can help you. -
New graphics driver: 8.882.2.3000
