What about the dv7 do they have b3?

You can take yours apart (that was a scary looking pile of parts though) if you don't believe HP. -
It kinda looks like a snowflake, lol. Anyway, click on it on in the post of the person you want to rep. So to rep ripwind, just go to any of his posts, or better yet, so ripwind will know which post you most enjoyed go to that post and click the snowflake, write a small comment as to why you are repping, and click ok, all done.

I had to take my Presario CQ60 apart like that just to replace the lcd panel. It was quite an experience in being very organized.
Good job, Rip, for setting the issue to rest. -

bottom line: Do not worry. All new DV6 and DV7 notebooks contain the newer B3 chipset. Anyone who would argue differently just likes to argue. -

Come on thats funny lol -
any body else get the i7-2820????

I noticed the catalyst drivers straight from the AMD site wont detect and install. Has anyone played around with making a custom INF yet? Also installed Afterburner to try doing some OC'ing, but everything is locked at max, so I'm guessing I'll need to grab some custom drivers first.

What I hated on the DV7 I returned is that the trackpad would activate itself again when coming out of sleep. Can you have this disabled on every boot?
Second, I'm kind of 7 dumb. In Vista, if you put a memory card it, it would ask you if you wanted to use it to speed up the system. Does 7 still do this? And does the new 2nd gen processors have benefit with this? -
Understand ReadyBoost and whether it will Speed Up your System
Yes it's a feature included in Windows 7 -
Almost pick this http://www.frys.com/product/6544763...KZiSPoPfQ__.node2?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG up today but decided not to for a few reasons. 1 was only 2 dim's, the other was that its was a dark brown almost looked black under different lighting conditions. However I would like opinions.

Hi guys, I received my DV6-4000 CTO a few days back but after looking at all the chipset issues on the older models I am thinking of exchanging this with a DV7.
I know different HP sales agents give different information so I'd like to hear from your experiences. One agent on chat told me that I can just exchange this with the newer model and they will adjust my payment with the new order.
When I called them again the returns manager said that they cannot exchange this one and I have to return this one, wait for the money to be credited back to me (10-15 days) and then place another order. Most likely the coupon code wont be active by then.
you guys know if the agent is just saying this so I will keep the current laptop? I cant order another one at the same time as I dont have enough limit on my credit card -
Go to hp.com, and look up the DV6t Select Edition. Add the 6770 graphics, blu-ray, bluetooth, change the hard drive to 640gb 7200 rpm, and you get 1219.99. Add the coupon code, and you end up at $853.99 with free shipping.
30% coupon code: NB2315 on HP dv6 Select Edition Laptop configured over $999
Or do the same with the DV6t Quad Edition, and pay $909.99 with free shipping, get a i7-2630qm instead of the i5-2410m.
30% coupon code: NB739862 on HP dv7 Quad Edition with 2nd generation Core i7
Either way, if buying on HP.com with a 30% off coupon, seriously consider getting it with a spare 9 cell battery for $42 more. -
Is it a matter of not having a large enough credit limit to buy two, or are you running a balance that brings you within two laptops of your limit? If you've been borrowing on a credit card to supplement your lifestyle, please consider living within your means and paying that sucker off, you'll be far better off in the long run. I'd love to trade all the (now worthless) crap I bought when I was in my 20s for the money + interest I spent on it. -

For my question, it turns out it was possible for them to just process an exchange after all. -

Im looking at a preconfigured dv74287cl from Sams club. It comes with the 5400 rpm Drive installed and I want to upgrade to a 7200 drive and use the 5400 as a backup drive. My question is do I need to get another caddy to install the second harddrive or not? Thanks.

You might want to ask in the 4xxx lounge.
The price would have to be very attractive (like my $400 G72) to make me buy a new computer without Sandy Bridge. -
-
Just so I'm sure, the dv7's ordered with just one hard drive don't include the SATA cable to connect a second one? And the only way currently to get one is to order the 641306-001 hard drive kit that's about $44 after shipping and tax?
Anyone have any idea if there will be a way to get just a SATA cable separately somehow later? I hate to order all that stuff just for one cable.
Thanks! -
I know it was talked about way earlier in this thread, but does anyone know if there is bios update available or coming to possibly upgrade the wireless card. Also since apparently they are shipping with installed b3, but it's not reading does anyone think that'll mess with installing a 510 ssd, or 1600 memory. Ordered my DV6 quad on 17th / 31st est. shipping and I'm not even on the delayed list yet....grrrr

Hey guys, new in this forum. Just wanted to know if the sata ports for the HDD on the DV7QE are sata 2 or sata 1?
Just thinking that because sata 1 is 150mbps and sata 2 is 300mbps
Thanks for the info.

Thanks. -
Wow guys I literally just read through every post, so much good information.
Pretty funny to watch the whole B2 B3 drama unfold and how Rip just cleared everything up.
Anyways two questions,
First does anyone have any opinions on the dv6tqe vs the dv7tqe?
Is the dv7 portable enough and is the additional year of warranty worth it.
Second question I wanted to ask was if anyone who got their dv6 or dv7 could comment on the color. Is really brown or more towards the black side?
Any help or pictures would be appreciated.
Anyways thanks so much to everyone on this thread, you guys are awesome! -
Is it possible to swap the wireless card with the Intel 6230 and have it working with just a driver change/update? Anyone?
-
Thought I would repost this so I don't get lost on the last page

Yeah I read about the color but no one has posted a pic in normal light. So I'm wondering if its just the dim lighting.

Also, I don't recall anyone talking about that Coolsense software. -
people who already have their laptops, please report back with some battery tests so we can see how efficient those SB really are
-
Thats the difference between me buying the dv6tqe or not.
Hp's battery tests are usually totally inflated.
Does anyone know the actual size of the battery? in WHr? -
Here are a few pictures I just took of it outside, partly cloudy. The light makes it look maybe a hair lighter that it actually is. This is the DV6t.

Omg!!!!!!!!!!!
Looks Cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
I love the Umber, its unique and classy.
Thanks again rip -
It's a good thing it's cloudy. No sun glare. We're seeing the color as it is. It looks great. The hint of brown doesn't hurt either.
