    Intel 80GB X25M SSD vs OCZ 120GB Vertex 2 SSD? - Windows 7 Forums

"Intel SSD's have never been tops for read/write speeds...yet they always test at the top or very near the top of most SSD benchmark tests. Reason being, extremely fast random I/O. So, with an OS that predominately writes and reads bunches of small files.....that random I/O is a better indicator of performance than a very large read/write speed."

Step 1: Buy new Sandy Bridge computer in January with $500 coupon.

Step 2: Receive email telling you that your computer is defective, but they'll let you return it by 4-30-11 and use the $500 coupon for a replacement purchase.

Step 3: Call HP and ask them to apply the coupon to your order with the $150 instant rebate. (or better yet, do it last Thursday-Saturday when the instant rebate was $250)

You can use the $350 coupon (NB6489) or the 25% off coupon code (MU6192). The 25% coupon code will give you more off if your configured price is greater than $1400.

    This is for the dv7.

I would say that $350 off is still a pretty good deal. Some people got to use a $500 off code, but that was for people who returned the model that had the old sandy bridge chip sets. I am still waiting for mine, I will have waited over a month from when I ordered it by the time I actually get it. Still, for the price and what your getting I am not sure it can be beat for the moment. If you do not mind waiting that is.

ALSO: Has any one put after market ram in yet? I was thinking about throwing some after market 2x4 sticks in. I may just go crazy knowing I have mix matched ram other wise haha.

Yeah I know it's a pretty good deal, I'm just jealous lol
The thing is, I might not be getting the laptop until July (I'm not from US) so I don't really know if I should buy the laptop now and MAYBE get it soon or wait 2 months to buy it (will it be cheaper? new model? no more coupons?)
So it's kind of a dilemma.

...Intel's upcoming Ivy Bridge platform may show its face come May 30.

    Wikipedia:
...Ivy Bridge is the codename given to the 22 nm die shrink of the Sandy Bridge architecture. During the Intel Developer Forum (IDF) on September 13, 2010, Intel's CEO Paul Otellini mentioned that Ivy Bridge processors may be introduced as early as in the second half of 2011.[53] According to early roadmap details, Intel is estimating that Ivy Bridge will offer a 20 percent CPU performance advantage over Sandy Bridge.[54]

On the graphics side, there will be support for DirectX 11 and OpenCL 1.1, and Intel is targeting a 30 percent graphics performance and 20 percent overall performance boost compared to Sandy Bridge.[54] It seems that Ivy Bridge might get 16 EUs.[55][56] Ivy Bridge will also support PCI Express 3.0.[57] A new Panther Point chipset, to be released with the Ivy Bridge platform, will offer native USB 3.0 support, while Cougar Point chipsets will be backwards compatible with the Ivy bridge platform.

    Sofpedia:
...Ivy Bridge was tweaked to feature a DirectX 11 compatible GPU, that packs 30% more EUs and supports up to three independent displays and HDMI 1.4a, a PCI Express Gen 3 integrated controller as well as improved video encoding, decoding and transcoding capabilities.

As far as the operating platform employed is concerned, Ivy Bridge uses the same LGA 1155 socket as its 32nm sibling and will be launched together with the Panther Point chipset that brings native support for up to four USB 3.0 ports.

What is the speed of the RAM in the dv6/dv7? If you go with the i7-2720qm or higher processor can you run DDR3-1600 RAM?

I was looking at this article.

This post shows that the RAM is PC3-10700. I am sure it is the same RAM for the i7-2720. Can anyone confirm?

BTW, I don't think the thread search works.

Hello all! New to this forum, and am about to order a new DV7T QE. Question: Any significant differences between the 2630 and 2720 processors, besides a minor speed increase? Software and hardware support the same for both? For example, I heard somewhere that Intel Widi would work for only one of them. Any truth to this? Thanks everyone!

    Churt,

Look at the 2.25 battery hour estimate. That basically means one hour which isn't even enough to watch a move. That's probably the only reason I'd hesitate. And 3D for me is just a gimmick, unless you're really into it.

Screen will be soo nice though. 120hz 1080p

guys, on my DV7, with wifi and bluetooth on, with a 9-cell plugged in, at 95ish% I had just under 13 hours of battery according to windows... I was on a very low brightness as it was night time, but that is still amazing! (intel graphics, set to lowest settings). Tweaking the advanced power settings gives a few extra hours. CoolSense was on medium settings I believe. And i think I had like 6-7 hours with a nearly full battery with a 6-cell. I was just doing regular use, browsing sites and listening to some music off youtube in the background, about 25% of full volume.

...and then I checked it out right now, 8 hr 12 min, with 82% remaining (doing the math that comes out to about 10 hours if I were at 100%). Not as good as what I saw yesterday, but still great. (9-cell)

Did more testing, now full brightness. 80%, 5 hr 27 min (9-cell). This comes to about 6 hours 49 mins if the battery were at 100%.

I will continue to test, posting battery results whenever I get around to is in this format:
What's changed from last test. %age now, time left, time left if @ 100%, battery type

    watched a few more vids, still at full brightness, 76%, 5:55 left, 7:47 if@ 100%, 9-cell
    Nothing changed. 73%, 5:04 left, 6:56 if@ 100%, 9-cell
    Fiddling with some settings, added sidebar gadgets. 69%, 4:12 left, 5:58 if@ 100%, 9-cell
    Lowered brightness to 50%. 68%, 5:16 left, 7:45 if@ 100%, 9-cell
    Nothing, just more browsing and music. 66%, 5:07 left, 7:45 if@ 100%, 9-cell

note: 6-cell (which I have but have as well but have not tested much) shud get about half of a 9-cell

I think I'm done testing for now.
    Final conclusions (estimates):
    9-cell, low brightness - 9 hrs
    9-cell, med brightness - 7 hrs
    9-cell, high brightness - 5 hrs
    6-cell, low brightness - 4.5 hrs
    6-cell, med brightness - 3.5 hrs
    6-cell, high brightness - 2.5 hrs
NOTE: All estimates using Intel graphics, not ATI, i'll assume dedicated geaphics might cut battery life by upto 50% (in half) not sure tho

It's 1333MHz. Even if the motherboard/BIOS supports 1600MHz (which I HIGHLY doubt), upgrading would be pointless for 99.9% of people (probably totally useless for the type of people who would need a laptop like this), and I even heard that it can only support up to 4GB at that speed.

testing out the sound on the D7V, pretty nice
so is the display, webcam is def not "HD" lol, but good enuf.
screen has a "sweet spot" angle, but if you increase the brightness this angle gets larger I feel.
    Battery review above.
intel graphics are good enuf for everything except gaming

    i have 8GB ram, ati 6770, and 2720 CPU
installed an SSD by myself, so clean install of win 7

Windows system rating: 7.5 CPU, 7.6 RAM, 6.9 for both graphics ratings, 7.7 hard drive
so base score of 6.9 ( i may overclock the GPU tho)

laptop is very cool (43-44 Celsius CPU cores), altho been using intel almost the whole time, no gaming (yet).
built seems good enuf, nice and sturdy
not brown at all, almost solid black... making it a finger print MAGNET, but i like the color at least

I mean this is the highest res screen (laptop or desktop) I've ever dealt with. But I mean text is crispt, images are clear? I haven't tested out my blueray drive yet because I do not own blueray disks.
    Movies seems clear tho
As for the webcam, there is a little bit of blur, anyone wud be able to tell (I think) that a photo from this webcam was taken from a webcam and not a camera. Improvement over my last webcam tho.
As for sound, speakers are nice, subwoofer is not that good, but you can tell it's there if you listen to your music carefully (which is better than no subwoofer at all)

ok tested a little more of the display, on youetube. there's a clear difference between 480p and 720p, however when stepping up to 1080p I don't think I saw any difference. (so this screen goes up to about 720p i guess)

colors are very vibrant (i'm not that good with judging displays, i care more about the power of the laptop, which has been great)

The updated delayed ship date is now the 15th.

Thanks. Indeed, I studied quantum physics and loved it.

Or that the date they're giving people is just an arbitrary number that doesn't mean anything. They really don't know, so they're just dangling it on a string for us.
