It comes with the 1333 Mhz, that's why I was asking if anyone knew if it had the XMP profile in the bios to take advantage of faster RAM speeds.

The new coupon would have saved me $2.66 after taxes were applied. :D Not worth the call to HP...

However, those who specced out more than the base machine could save quite a bit more.

I ordered one of the Dv6 select editions yesterday when I saw the $325 coupon expired to get the $250 off. Do you think they would let me return it to get a quad edition with the 30% off? It would actually be less expensive for the quad with the i7 than the select with the i5.

The HP coupon situation has really got out of hand. They need to come up with a consistent, fair policy to address the situation, especially before delivery is made. They are going to most alienate the customer who is willing to spring for more than the base system & freebie upgrades... their BEST customers.

Regardless, contact them. You have 21 days from the day of receiving the unit to return or exchange if you would like. If necessary (and if you have the financial backing), you can place a new order with the 30% promotion and simply return the model you ordered previously.

I ordered the previous revision of the dv6tqe right before the 6k series was released and I wanted to do an exchange for the new revision. HP required me to wait until I received the model before they would be willing to do anything. Instead of waiting, I ordered the new revision (w/ $325 off) and returned the other model the day I received it. It literally took me 15 minutes with a rep on their online chat. No significant issues with the return and I shipped it back out the next day. Several days later and I had my money returned directly back into my bank account.

For those of you that ordered the 6k series, has anyone's order shipped out yet? I placed my order on the 13th and it's currently 'in production' with a with an 'estimated to ship on March 25, 2011'.

i ordered on the $325 last week, then today found out about the 30% I called them up and persuaded them to apply the coupon. it took persistence but finally got it done and ended up getting over $100 back, so all in all a saving of about $425. Im sure you can get the 30% applied just be damn nice to rep, offer to take the survey and keep pushing...

Also, i called a few times until i got a rep that was helpful, first two tries I knew were going nowhere...

It won't hurt to call customer service and see what they say. Considering that you can return it for any reason within 21 days after delivery, you could tell them that you will order the new version and return the previous order automatically.

I'd like to do this but I ordered the select edition to get the $250 off of that. I think I'll have to exchange the one I ordered for the 30% off quad if that deal lasts that long...

the best suggestion, if funds are NOT an issue, is to just order WHAT YOU WANT NOW under the current deal and just return the unwanted unit when it arrives. They won't refund your original shipping, but they pay for return shipping. If your original order was sent free shipping anyway, you are out nothing.

City Pig is ALSO correct. I ordered my first one on 02Mar and COULD have cancelled on 04Mar because it had not entered production at that time.

Definitely give it a try, I cancelled an order last week that had already entered production. They said that I could only put in a cancellation request since it was in production but if it could not be cancelled I could return it as soon as I received it.

I also ordered the replacement at the same time as putting in the cancellation to take advantage of the coupon. So at one point I had TWO orders for almost identical machines.

A day later the actual cancellation was confirmed and a few days later the money was credited. I think putting in the new order at the same time as cancelling might have helped

Just as an FYI - I placed my order on the 14th and is still in production. I know a few guys here placed theirs on the 13th so provided they post daily, we should know how close we are if one of them posts. However, should no one else post that ordered on the 13th stating it shipped, I'll be sure to let everyone know when mine ships.

    Greetings everyone.

I placed my order for DV7tQE last week Thursday (March 17th) and used coupon code for $325.

Today, I called back and told them that I found a new coupon code which actually saves me more money. The rep just asked what that coupon code was (NB379862) and asked if I would be willing to participate in a survey after the call was over. I agreed, and got a discount of $67 that will be credited to my account, 5 business days after I receive my notebook :)

FWIW, I called 1-888-999-4747, and was on hold for 12 minutes after speaking to the rep, but it worked. :)

Daaaaang! Those new coupons are awesome. <$1000 for pretty much decked out, or slighly over $1000 for a 2.2GHz CPU instead.

    So two dumb questions:

Realistically, is a Radeon 6770 enough for today's gaming? Particularly since I use a 1920x1080 panel for most of it...I probably need more than the 6770's 8 ROPs...that's actually no better than my Geforce 9650GT! Soooo realistically I don't think this would be much better than my current GPU in terms of being able to do high resolution...

And second...is it better to get a lower end CPU just to help with cooling? Not sure cramming in a faster 2.2 or 2.3GHz CPU is a great idea or not...

I wish I could just find them on HP.com. I'd much rather just buy the caddy than have to spend $180 extra for a hard drive I'll never use, if I go with the Envy 17.

Hmm...did the math, and for me the Envy 17 is now $559.50 more than the Pavilion. For that you get double the warranty length, and supposedly U.S. based too!

The GPU as near as I can figure it is:
    -more powerful 6850 versus 6770
26% faster clock speed on the 6770, so effectively (adjusted for clock speed):
    ROPS: 10 versus 16ROPS 60% faster
    CORES: 605 versus 800 cores 32% faster

Is it worth $559.50 for a 32-60% faster GPU? On the other hand, can I afford NOT to have the faster GPU, considering I actually do game on a 1080p panel, and even the 6850 isn't really good enough for anything I might want?

nVidia and ATI ROPs are different. ATI has historically had less. Secondly, the 8 ROPs is a typo IMO. GPU-Z shows 16 ROPs, which seems correct due to Barts having 32. Impossible to know 100% at this point, but my money is on AMDs website being incorrect.

At the same resolution, I expect the 6850 to be around 25-33% faster on average while running the same resolution.

Edit ** I just looked it up... The difference in performance is pretty small, much smaller than I expected.

    http://www.notebookcheck.net/Computer-Games-on-Laptop-Graphic-Cards.13849.0.html

Go to that link, select the 6850M, 5850M and the 6750M and then hit enter. Now compare the results... Gotta remember Barts (1120? shaders) was within 6% performance of the Cypress (1600 shaders).

Right now on the mid range parts it seems like AMD's got more...like supposedly 8 (16?) on the 6770 versus only 4(?) on Nvidia's 96 core part, though it gets comperable on the higher end parts.

Does GPU-Z actually know, or is it basically just going "here's the GPU, and here's what my database says it is", when it comes to things like cores and ROPS? I'd guess the latter, but...

Dang, I wish I knew, because if this actually has the same ROPS as the 6850...well then it would have a HIGHER fill rate, but the 6850 would have 32% more processing power...almost a wash.

But surely that can't be right? I mean they wouldn't have the 6770 be 27% more fill rate than the 6850, would they?

If they actually do, then that $550 REALLY isn't worth it

If you compare to the 5870 (725/900) to the 6750 (600/900) you will see the 5870 holds aprox 30%-40% performance advantage. However, the 5870M is clocked higher than the 6850M in the Envy (drop performance down 10-15% on the 5870 numbers) and the 6770M is 20% clocked higher than the 6750M, thus increasing performance 10-15%... A little bit of math indicates that the 6850 is only going to be slightly faster (if at all).

Until we have more benchmarks, I am going to say both chips are within 20% of each other. I'd also predict the 6870M to be about 25%
faster than the 6770M and the 6970M to be about 95% faster than the 6770M.

Stock clocks are 725MHz versus 575MHz 6770/6850...are you saying they're NOT stock on one or the other?

Assuming the ROPs listed on AMD's site are correct...8 versus 16, and 480 versus 800 cores, that leaves the 6850 having 32% more processing power, and 60% more fill rate, which is fairly huge...IF AMD didn't screw up what's listed on their site, and if clocks are stock on both.

No, let me explain another way.

    1) 5870M is aprox 50% faster than 6750M

    2) 5870M is clocked 22% higher than 6850 (Envy's version at 575)

    3) 6770M is clocked 21% higher than 6750M

Therefore, the 6850M is far less than 50% faster than the 6770M. How much less? That depends on the scaling of clock speed and how it corresponds to performance. If you assume 50% efficiency, then you are looking at the 6850M being aprox 21% faster than the 6770M, which is where I personally believe it will be. My money is on the 6850 being 20-25% faster when running in fill-rate intensive resolutions.

I'm still not seeing why it would only be 20-25% faster if it's got a 60% advantage in ROPs though...I mean should be 32% faster for execution stuff, but...

well they AREN'T always... My first order was made 02Mar (dv6tqe, older version) and was scheduled to ship 16Mar. I got notice that it was being shipped from China on 08Mar and it was delivered 11Mar to the East Coast. Now the new version was released the following Sunday 13Mar, and might have had something to do with the haste ...

I called them up and they said I would find out in 24 to 48 hours if it is canceled. Sounds good since it only went into production earlier today, but I don't really want to trust someone who confuses a graphics card with a hard drive.

I believe it depends on how far the production on that specific computer is completed. A similar thing happened to me sometime back They told me that it'll take them 24-48 hours to confirm the cancellation. Then I received an e-mail the next day from them that the computer was well into production and the order could not be cancelled. They recommended that I return it as soon as I got it.

Seems like the vast majority of the time there would be an identical order in the queue behind you, and they could just kill your order and attach the newer order to your computer if their order tracking system were at all efficient.

So uh, what usually comes after a 30% coupon? A new product? Maybe a $500 coupon? Wouldn't that suck, everyone has to call hp all over again. :( :)

They seem to have a sale going on. The next coupon probably won't be as good.

the only heads or tails I can make out of it, is that the delay in Sandy Bridge screwed up their sales projection numbers and they are trying to recover anyway possible. Parts that go unsold, do nothing but depreciate, and even though the SB motherboards may have been on hold, all the other components were probably flowing per contracted.

From what I've seen HP usually has coupons at the beginning of major launches to give a boost to sales before the reviews come in. After that theres a couple months of mediocre/bad coupons out before they start releasing good ones again to clear stock. Now is the best time to buy since you get the biggest discount while the tech is still new.

I hope you are right because I don't want to get my laptop only to see a better coupon up. Even if they do put out a new coupon I won't cancel my order again.

Back around New Year's they had $500 off any Pavilion configuration of $1399 or more, so the minimum price was $899. IIRC, they weren't giving free upgrades to 6GB RAM or Blu-Ray readers back then, so it's probably about the same final price as you paid.

The really lucky ones were those who bought Sandy Bridge for $500 off, got recalled, and were allowed to stack the January $500 coupon with the $150 instant rebate and all the free bonus upgrades on a new order after the new Quads came out last week.

I'm thinking of doing the same with a dv7. Has there been any confirmation that sata 3 is supported or that the ram will run at 1600 with the 2820 cpu? Also, I don't know jack about the cables, would it be the same currently available drive caddy/cable for sata 3?

How do you stack coupons? When I go to the checkout page I can only see how to add 1 coupon? How do I add more than one or "stack"? Thank you.

Not all coupons are stackable. The ones that can be stacked are labeled as such and should be applied first before the next one.

Some coupons, when applied, take away other applicable discounts or rebates. If using multiple coupons, by trial and error you can figure out the configuration that is best for you.

In my case, I configured the computer as I wanted and then called HP. At each level of customer service representatives they have certain amount of flexibility to allow extra discounts/rebates. Sometimes when a representative cannot do it within his or her own authority, they will refer you to a supervisor who can make exceptions and throw in extras such as free 2 day delivery etc. I asked to be referred to a supervisor who turned out to be very helpful.
