It comes with the 1333 Mhz, that's why I was asking if anyone knew if it had the XMP profile in the bios to take advantage of faster RAM speeds.

Not worth the call to HP...
However, those who specced out more than the base machine could save quite a bit more. -
I took the plunge with today's coupon! Saved almost 30%!

I ordered one of the Dv6 select editions yesterday when I saw the $325 coupon expired to get the $250 off. Do you think they would let me return it to get a quad edition with the 30% off? It would actually be less expensive for the quad with the i7 than the select with the i5.
-
you have 24 hours to cancel the order... just call them up and do it asap
-
The HP coupon situation has really got out of hand. They need to come up with a consistent, fair policy to address the situation, especially before delivery is made. They are going to most alienate the customer who is willing to spring for more than the base system & freebie upgrades... their BEST customers.
-
Well I'm over the 24 hour mark. I ordered this after the $325 coupon but before the 30% and now I'm POed.
-
I ordered the previous revision of the dv6tqe right before the 6k series was released and I wanted to do an exchange for the new revision. HP required me to wait until I received the model before they would be willing to do anything. Instead of waiting, I ordered the new revision (w/ $325 off) and returned the other model the day I received it. It literally took me 15 minutes with a rep on their online chat. No significant issues with the return and I shipped it back out the next day. Several days later and I had my money returned directly back into my bank account.
For those of you that ordered the 6k series, has anyone's order shipped out yet? I placed my order on the 13th and it's currently 'in production' with a with an 'estimated to ship on March 25, 2011'. -
Also, i called a few times until i got a rep that was helpful, first two tries I knew were going nowhere... -
-
-
-
City Pig is ALSO correct. I ordered my first one on 02Mar and COULD have cancelled on 04Mar because it had not entered production at that time. -
I also ordered the replacement at the same time as putting in the cancellation to take advantage of the coupon. So at one point I had TWO orders for almost identical machines.
A day later the actual cancellation was confirmed and a few days later the money was credited. I think putting in the new order at the same time as cancelling might have helped -
I took the $325 coupon last week also, but the HP sales rep specifically told me to watch the coupons and call back if I saw anything better.Hmmm...makes me think he was trying to sell me something
-
Just as an FYI - I placed my order on the 14th and is still in production. I know a few guys here placed theirs on the 13th so provided they post daily, we should know how close we are if one of them posts. However, should no one else post that ordered on the 13th stating it shipped, I'll be sure to let everyone know when mine ships.
-
Greetings everyone.
I placed my order for DV7tQE last week Thursday (March 17th) and used coupon code for $325.
Today, I called back and told them that I found a new coupon code which actually saves me more money. The rep just asked what that coupon code was (NB379862) and asked if I would be willing to participate in a survey after the call was over. I agreed, and got a discount of $67 that will be credited to my account, 5 business days after I receive my notebook
FWIW, I called 1-888-999-4747, and was on hold for 12 minutes after speaking to the rep, but it worked.

Daaaaang! Those new coupons are awesome. <$1000 for pretty much decked out, or slighly over $1000 for a 2.2GHz CPU instead.
So two dumb questions:
Realistically, is a Radeon 6770 enough for today's gaming? Particularly since I use a 1920x1080 panel for most of it...I probably need more than the 6770's 8 ROPs...that's actually no better than my Geforce 9650GT! Soooo realistically I don't think this would be much better than my current GPU in terms of being able to do high resolution...
And second...is it better to get a lower end CPU just to help with cooling? Not sure cramming in a faster 2.2 or 2.3GHz CPU is a great idea or not...
-
Hmm...did the math, and for me the Envy 17 is now $559.50 more than the Pavilion. For that you get double the warranty length, and supposedly U.S. based too!
The GPU as near as I can figure it is:
-more powerful 6850 versus 6770
26% faster clock speed on the 6770, so effectively (adjusted for clock speed):
ROPS: 10 versus 16ROPS 60% faster
CORES: 605 versus 800 cores 32% faster
Is it worth $559.50 for a 32-60% faster GPU? On the other hand, can I afford NOT to have the faster GPU, considering I actually do game on a 1080p panel, and even the 6850 isn't really good enough for anything I might want? -
At the same resolution, I expect the 6850 to be around 25-33% faster on average while running the same resolution.
Edit ** I just looked it up... The difference in performance is pretty small, much smaller than I expected.
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Computer-Games-on-Laptop-Graphic-Cards.13849.0.html
Go to that link, select the 6850M, 5850M and the 6750M and then hit enter. Now compare the results... Gotta remember Barts (1120? shaders) was within 6% performance of the Cypress (1600 shaders). -
Dang, I wish I knew, because if this actually has the same ROPS as the 6850...well then it would have a HIGHER fill rate, but the 6850 would have 32% more processing power...almost a wash.
But surely that can't be right? I mean they wouldn't have the 6770 be 27% more fill rate than the 6850, would they?
If they actually do, then that $550 REALLY isn't worth it  -
Until we have more benchmarks, I am going to say both chips are within 20% of each other. I'd also predict the 6870M to be about 25%
faster than the 6770M and the 6970M to be about 95% faster than the 6770M. -
Assuming the ROPs listed on AMD's site are correct...8 versus 16, and 480 versus 800 cores, that leaves the 6850 having 32% more processing power, and 60% more fill rate, which is fairly huge...IF AMD didn't screw up what's listed on their site, and if clocks are stock on both. -
-
Several sites list coupons. Here's an example:
HP Coupons for HP Pavilion, Select Editions, TouchSmart tm2 Laptops & Desktops - LogicBUY
This one gives coupon code: NB4761 for 30% off on a dv6 quad and NB739862 for dv7 quad. I just called HP to ask them to apply the new coupon to an order already in progress and they made the adjustment without any question or problem. -
1) 5870M is aprox 50% faster than 6750M
2) 5870M is clocked 22% higher than 6850 (Envy's version at 575)
3) 6770M is clocked 21% higher than 6750M
Therefore, the 6850M is far less than 50% faster than the 6770M. How much less? That depends on the scaling of clock speed and how it corresponds to performance. If you assume 50% efficiency, then you are looking at the 6850M being aprox 21% faster than the 6770M, which is where I personally believe it will be. My money is on the 6850 being 20-25% faster when running in fill-rate intensive resolutions. -

HP is just so slow!
Why they have to ship the system at the end of est ship date?
Order in production
(Estimated to ship on March 25, 2011) -
-
I called them up and they said I would find out in 24 to 48 hours if it is canceled. Sounds good since it only went into production earlier today, but I don't really want to trust someone who confuses a graphics card with a hard drive.

I got my order cancellation email about 27 hours after calling them... not bad. Looks like I'll be trading up from the select to the quad, and to top it off it will even cost less. Today is officially a good day
-
So uh, what usually comes after a 30% coupon? A new product? Maybe a $500 coupon? Wouldn't that suck, everyone has to call hp all over again.

Hopefully that's what they're doing.
-
From what I've seen HP usually has coupons at the beginning of major launches to give a boost to sales before the reviews come in. After that theres a couple months of mediocre/bad coupons out before they start releasing good ones again to clear stock. Now is the best time to buy since you get the biggest discount while the tech is still new.
-
I hope you are right because I don't want to get my laptop only to see a better coupon up. Even if they do put out a new coupon I won't cancel my order again.
-
-
I have noticed the exact same thing over the past 3 years. -
The really lucky ones were those who bought Sandy Bridge for $500 off, got recalled, and were allowed to stack the January $500 coupon with the $150 instant rebate and all the free bonus upgrades on a new order after the new Quads came out last week. -
-
-
How do you stack coupons? When I go to the checkout page I can only see how to add 1 coupon? How do I add more than one or "stack"? Thank you.
-
Some coupons, when applied, take away other applicable discounts or rebates. If using multiple coupons, by trial and error you can figure out the configuration that is best for you.
In my case, I configured the computer as I wanted and then called HP. At each level of customer service representatives they have certain amount of flexibility to allow extra discounts/rebates. Sometimes when a representative cannot do it within his or her own authority, they will refer you to a supervisor who can make exceptions and throw in extras such as free 2 day delivery etc. I asked to be referred to a supervisor who turned out to be very helpful.
