I'm having issues connecting full speed to my parents more recent Apple Airport Extreme (5.0 ghz off, 2.4 ghz on). I gave up. I was connected at 65 Mbps, cutting in and out. Websites loading like it's 1999.

At my house I'm fine at 243 Mbps on a Belkin F5D8236.

    Thanks. Repped!

Please post your experience with the upgrade!!

On a side not, while I feel bad for all the delayed owners out there, I wish there were a different thread for comments regarding shipping/calling for price adjustments. Not putting anybody down though. Not checking the forum for four days left me with 50 unread pages. I just wish there was more about the computers being posted, which would be happening if you guys had your computers. Hope they ship soon for y'all :)

From what I've seen / experienced, you can not "cancel" an order. Shortly after you place the order, there's nothing you can do except for return it once it's delivered (minus the shipping fees).

Yes! I am excited about the specifications. I waited anxiously for months to purchase a Samsung with a g2 i7 processor and when it finally became available and I purchased it the monitor was horrible. I promptly returned it. It had an NVIDIA GeForce GT525M which should have been okay so I don't know if the unit was defective or what.

The HP is a much better deal with better specifications - particularly given the coupon code!

    Thanks for your help.

Anyone render any video yet for YouTube or anything? Can someone render that video on the 3000 vs the 6770 and let us know the difference? Thanks.

Thank you to everyone who has posted to this board. I have learned so much about your experiences with the dreaded HP Agents and I would like to post my experiences. This is chat transcript from this morning with some editing for space and personal data:

    Details
Session Started with Agent (Maggie T.)
Me: "When I ordered my HP Pavilion dv7tqe-6000 on March 25, I upgraded the ram on it to 8gb. Even with a 30% off coupon for it I still paid an extra $42, now I check back on your website and find FREE Upgrade to 8GB Memory. I noticed that the ram upgrade is free even with a new 30% discount (NB6973) you are offering now. I am disappointed that I was not offered this same deal and I hope that I can get a credit to my account for $42. Thank you for your time.
Agent (Maggie T.): "I understand that you would like to some discount to match the current promotions. Is that correct?"
Agent (Maggie T.): "The current promotion does offer great upgrades. However, no coupon will work with it right now."
Agent (Maggie T.): "I would like to inform you that the new price is $1,124.99"
Agent (Maggie T.): "It is $190.05 more that your order’s unit price."
Agent (Maggie T.): "You actually made a better deal in terms of pricing."
Agent (Maggie T.): "We may have offered new upgrades but no coupon will work with it."
Me: "the price on site says $1099"
Me: "this is the same promo as the one i received except for the 8gb"
    Me: "which i paid for"
Agent (Maggie T.): "Let mw double check."
Me: "i was only offered 6gb for free but upgraded to 8gb the diff 42 taking in consideration 30percent off"
Agent (Maggie T.): "Let me verify. The graphics card you choose is 1GB Radeon(TM) HD 6770M GDDR5 Graphics [HDMI, VGA] . Is that correct?"
Me: "i did upgrade for 25"
Agent (Maggie T.): "And that brings up the price to $1124.99"
Me: "not with 30 percent off"
Agent (Maggie T.): "Are you using a coupon to price match?"
    Me: "yes"
Agent (Maggie T.): "I apologize but we will only price protect your order under website price changes."
Me: "for example the upgrade for ram was 60 i think but take 30 percent off i paid 42. Now the upgrade is free with the 30 percent off still"
Me: "okay, but i found this code on fatwallet and i thought you accepted there codes"
Agent (Maggie T.): "May I have the code please?"
    Me: "NB6973"
Agent (Maggie T.): "I am still here, I'm still verifying your concern with our promotion specialist."
Agent (Maggie T.): "I would like to inform you that we don't price protect an order against a coupon."
Agent (Maggie T.): "The coupon serves as current promotions offered by our affiliates and advertiser."
Agent (Maggie T.): "Coupons should only redeem during its promotional period."
Me: "still, i feel really cheated bc it is the same deal"
Me: "only diff is the free ram"
Agent (Maggie T.): "However, I can offer you as much as $10 off the price."
Me: "that doesn't work for me"
Me: "i still feel really cheated"
Me: "it is the same promotion"
Agent (Maggie T.): "I do apologize. That is the only discount I can offer."
Agent (Maggie T.): "The current sale is for the April promotion which will change by next week."
Me: "you know what, when i finally receive the laptop i might return it bc it is not worth this hassle"

For some reason the rep did not send the rest of our chat transcript. It left off with her saying that it was up to me if I wanted to send it back and that I got a good deal and should have been happy with it. I did get a good deal on my dv7 (upgraded to 8gb ram and 6770 card) paying only $934.49 but the current promotion is a better deal and I did pay $42 extra for the same thing they are offering now. Also, I am getting a little antsy because my build date is April 12 and I have a feeling it is not going to get shipped out till much later. Don't really care about the money (well, maybe just a little,) mostly it was about customer service, and at the end it was just about principal. Most likely I will keep the computer if it comes, but if I get a delay notice, I might still decide to cancel. Thank you for letting me rant.

IMO cancel it. Why should you pay more than the rest of us for the same config? Albeit the build date may be pushed back further, but at least you won't feel like you've been gyped of your hard earned money, right?

Thanks for your advice. I would cancel but all my funds are tied up in it at the moment and part of me doesn’t want to lose the deal I already got over $42. The only thing I really want to do is complain about this to her supervisor, especially since she made me feel so stupid, like I don’t know how to do basic math. I would call to complain but I am lazy. Hopefully, if I get the laptop soon, I will put this all behind me.

Hey could anyone comment on the difference in performance level of the i5-2410m vs the i7-2630qm?

I was looking at notebookcheck and the i7-2630qm performance isn't even that much higher than the i5-2410m.

    Look at it for yourself:

    Intel Core i5 2410M Notebook Processor - Notebookcheck.net Tech

Not sure its worth the price difference?

I can't really comment on the performance difference between the two, but I am sure it is noticable since the 2410 sports only two actual cores while the 2630 sports four.

The Notebookcheck staff has gone completely mad, their GPU ranking is just nuts...

I had the first dv7 with 2630QM and prior to that an Acer with an i5-430m (not far from 2410m) and I can tell you this:

i7-2630QM is just a monster of a CPU and is just so cheap, the Dolphin emulator would almost not run with the i5 but with the SB is just flawless.

Don´t be fooled by those who say that this CPU is a bottleneck or whatever, the performance is just awesome.

The i7-2630qm on many benchmarks will run with the i7-940xm, which was a $1000 cpu back in June.
    Mobile Processors - Benchmarklist - Notebookcheck.net Tech

Reports are that it runs at least 20% more frames per second than the Mobility 5770, despite all the people who claim it's just a renamed 5770.

AMD rates the 5770 at 520 gigaflops and the 6770 at 696 gigaflops. At this link you can see that the 5770 has 400 shaders and 20 texture mapping units, the 6770 has 480 shaders and 24 TMUs. Also, the 6770m runs at 725mhz, the Mobility 5770 runs at 650 mhz.

Well i'm just going to testify for the people who successfully won against the CSR's. Last night i successfully claimed a $50 price difference in discounts (because i used a 30% coupon at purchase and it's now 33% for my dv6tqe) and it will be credited after the laptop is delivered. Especially since your funds are all tied up, I'd suggest you give it a few more tries. Last night was probably my 7th Cust. Rep chat session that i sat through over the past two days and finally they gave in.

    Persistance, friend.

    This is my chat log.

I left the time stamp so everyone can see how long it took:

Session Started with Agent (Marge A.)
    -Personal Information Excluded-
0 04:58:38Agent (Marge A.): "Is it the HP Pavilion dv6t Quad Edition customizable Notebook PC?"
    0 04:59:04Me: "Yes it is."
    0 04:59:33Agent (Marge A.): "Okay."
0 04:59:47Agent (Marge A.): "What price difference you are referring to?"
0 05:00:22Me: "There is a new coupon code that i found on TechBargain which takes 33% off of my original price, in comparison to the 30% coupon that i had used at the time of purchase."
0 05:00:36Me: "I was looking for the price difference in the discounted prices to be honored."
0 05:00:56Agent (Marge A.): "No. It is not applicable."
0 05:01:09Me: "Otherwise it may risk me canceling my existing order in favor of the new coupon."
0 05:01:21Agent (Marge A.): "Only one coupon code is applicable in every purchase."
0 05:01:37Me: "I understand that, and I am not asking you to stack the coupons."
0 05:01:48Me: "Which i already know is not possible."
    0 05:01:56Agent (Marge A.): "It's not applicable."
0 05:02:10Me: "I know it is not applicable"
    0 05:02:23Me: "But that isn't what I'm asking for"
0 05:03:10Me: "If i were to cancel my order, and to repurchase the same laptop at the same specifications, I would be saving $46.65 off of what i was originall spending."
0 05:03:26Me: "if i were to use the 33% coupon in the seperate, second purchase."
0 05:03:48Me: "Does that make sense?"
0 05:05:01Agent (Marge A.): "Yes, as long as it is valid."
0 05:05:17Me: "it is valid. Would you like to see the coupon code?"
    0 05:05:37Agent (Marge A.): "Sure."
    0 05:05:49Me: "The coupon code is NB8095"
    0 05:06:01Me: "it is found on TechBargains.com"
0 05:07:12Me: "I just tried it on the HP main site. The coupon does indeed work."
    0 05:07:53Agent (Marge A.): "Okay."
0 05:08:56Me: "I can see that both the discounted price is lower, the tax is lower, and obviously the final price is lower."
0 05:09:36Agent (Marge A.): "You may place a new order with the coupon code NB8095."
0 05:10:00Me: "There is no way i can be honored the price difference?"
0 05:10:15Me: "Because that seems to be the most logical solution at this time."
0 05:11:05Agent (Marge A.): "No. Coupon codes is a separate form of discount and also has its own limitation."
0 05:11:59Me: "That doesn't change the fact that I would be wasting my time and effort to order a new laptop"
0 05:12:04Me: "at the expense of my own money"
0 05:13:28Agent (Marge A.): "HP coupon codes are not valid retroactively on previously purchased items."
0 05:13:49Me: "Then why have other customers been able to gain credit?"
0 05:14:05Me: "I feel as if i'm being taken advantage of. I did my research."
0 05:14:22Agent (Marge A.): "Limitations and possible reasons of your coupon code is no longer accepted:"
0 05:14:30Agent (Marge A.): "1. You have entered the Coupon Code incorrectly. Please re-check the code and re-enter it.

    3. The coupon expires on 4/30
    4. The coupon does not have a minimum
    5. Read 3. There is no purchase limit.

0 05:16:46Agent (Marge A.): "Only one coupon code is applicable in every purchase."
0 05:17:11Me: "I'm not asking you to physically apply the coupon to my purchase."
0 05:18:15Agent (Marge A.): "Do you mean that you like to apply the NB8095 on your purchase>?"
0 05:18:49Me: "If it was possible to switch the two coupon codes, that would be amazing."
    0 05:19:08Agent (Marge A.): "It's is not possible."
    0 05:19:17Me: "I KNOW"
0 05:19:23Me: "but that is not what im asking for"
0 05:20:00Me: "All i did was the calculations and i noticed that i am paid $49.91 more than what i could be paying this week."
0 05:20:56Me: "All i did was the calculations and i noticed that i paidi $49.91 more than what i could be paying this week."
0 05:21:04Me: "That is the problem."
0 05:21:11Agent (Marge A.): "Okay. Let me check on it."
0 05:21:11Me: "I do NOT want to switch coupon codes"

0 05:25:50Me: "okay thank you. How does that process work?"

I'd say she just said so to get rid of you. The others got their discounts made right there while you have to contact them again to talk about the 50$ refund.

Couldn't decide between the 2 so I ordered both. Ordered the dv7tqe because the envy couldn't touch the price but after the 25% off (envy) it made it a more difficult decision. My dv7tqe is delayed so hopefully I will have both of them at the same time for at least a couple days. Have an SSD for whichever one I end up keeping already. Hopefully I will have time for a full review of both next to each other. Yikes!!

It's only 9:30 a.m. on the east coast. Any shipment e-mail you receive likely will come in the afternoon or evening, perhaps even tomorrow. It takes time for that data to be updated.

Idea: keep both and sell the one you dont like on ebay for a profit when there are no discount opportunities. Genius.

Another thing that I checked is if Widi works with the 2630qm chip. I have read many times that it doesn't work for that chip. I talked with HP and called a tech at Intel who said Widi works with the 2630 chip and it just matters that you have the intel network card and the company enables the widi connection on it. Anyone confirm this??

Doesn't matter for me now as I reordered the 2720qm chip and will send back my 2630 when I get it. Kinda stupid that I can't change an order that is 3 weeks from being shipped!!

Looks like we're going to have identical machines, right down to the Lightscribe DVD-RW. The fact that you got a shipment notice when they said (delay not withstanding), bodes well for mine. It's going to be really hard having to wait a couple more weeks, but for the price, it'll be worth it.

I opted for the lightscribe as well. I haven't seen many orders on this thread that included that. I really like it for labeling my library; it looks a lot better than a disc marked up by a sharpie!

    Wasn't it only ~$20 extra?

I opted for the lightscribe as well. I will have to get on Amazon later today and order a few lightscribe discs.

Hopefully, my notebook will finally ship today

Congrats! I'm so excited for you guys to get your laptops, primarily because I'm hoping the forum buzz will tide me over until they ship mine. Had I not needed to cancel my initial order it would probably be shipping in this bunch. q.q sad. Lol.

Are you getting an email saying this, or are you checking order status on HP's site?

Do you think HP will ever bring back the touchscreen and backlit keyboard on the dv6t quad edition any time soon?

If anyone is planning on ADDING an SSD to their DV7, it would mean a great deal if you could make a detailed, step by step video on it, including a clean Win7 install onto the SSD, and post it on Youtube. This would greatly help out us noobs that have no idea where to begin.

Honestly, I would be willing to donate a couple of bucks into your paypal account for the trouble. :D

    $100 Credit for Blu-ray player!!!

I purchased an HP Pavilion dv6t Select Edition (dual-core) on April 1st using a $360 off coupon on April 1st.

It did not include a Blu-ray player, just a DVD player.

I saw on April 10th a new 30% off coupon so I went and configured my laptop again on the HP website to see if the price would be cheaper from when I originally purchased the laptop. It was $70 cheaper.

Since its a percentage coupon I then added a Blu-ray player which is a $100 add-on. The 30% coupon reduced the cost of the Blu-ray by $30 and the laptop configuration with Blu-ray just happened to match the original price of the laptop I ordered on April 1st without a Blu-ray.

I called HP and tried to add a Blu-ray to my configuration and of course the answer was that they can't modify orders that have been submitted.

He did offer me a credit though. I thought he would only offer me a $70 credit based on my original configuration with the new 30% off coupon. But I explained that if I used the coupon the Blu-ray would only cost $70 instead of $100 and since I couldn't use the coupon on ordering the Blu-ray as a standalone option it would cost me $100.

Without any debate he applied a $100 credit to my credit card!

Call HP at 1-866-217-6014, don't use the text chat option because I tried that and the person I spoke with wasn't able to help. And the 30% coupon code is "NB7758" which is only valid for the dvt6 Select Edition (dual-core). If you purchased a dvt6 quad-core you would need to try using coupon code "NB8095" which is 33% off and see if that changes the price from when you originally placed your order. Both coupons expire April 16th.

Here is the original configuration that I ordered:

    • Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
    • 2nd generation Intel(R) Dual Core(TM) i5-2520M (2.5GHz, 3MB L3 Cache) with Turbo Boost up to 3.2 GHz
    • 1GB GDDR5 Radeon(TM) HD 6770M Graphics [HDMI, VGA]
    • FREE Upgrade to 6GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
    • 640GB 7200RPM Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
    • No Additional Office Software
    • No additional security software
    • 9-Cell Lithium-Ion Battery (over-sized) - Up to 9.75 hours of battery life +++
    • 15.6" diagonal High Definition HP BrightView LED Display (1366x768)
    • SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-R/RW with Double Layer Support
    • HP TrueVision HD Webcam with Integrated Digital Microphone and HP SimplePass Fingerprint Reader
    • Intel 802.11b/g/n WLAN and Bluetooth(R)
    • Standard Keyboard
    • HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope

    Original Cost: $839.

I ordered the 6GB RAM (4GB + 2GB). If I were to replace the 2GB RAM stick with a 4GB stick, what should I get?

    There are three different kinds of DDR3 1333 RAM on Newegg.com (PC3 10600, PC3 10660, PC3 10666)

    Thanks

Solution: buy two matching 4GB sticks (instead of trying to pair the existing sticks) and sell your extra sticks. RAM does not operate well under different timings so going for a matching pair right away is the best option.

Right, but couldn't I match the existing 4GB stick and save by only having to buy one 4GB stick? Unless there's a deal for 2X4GB that ends up being cheaper than a single 4GB....

    Thanks
