I ordered it directly from Chinese seller in China, and coincidentally, the keyboard is shipped from the same city where the laptop is shipped from...

I'd take a look at the Crucial 1333mhz/10600 stuff.
I bought a stick of Samsung 1333mhz before I remembered that Micron=Crucial, I'll let you know if the CPU benchmarks change when I stick it in a dv7, if I ever get the dv7s.
-
Thats what i was told too: doesnt apply until after it ships, which makes sense since hp hasnt even billed my billmelater

Just got my new DV6... Posting from it now. Its amazeing, I love the look of the laptop and the screen is pretty good if you look in the sweet spot but the sweet spot is kinda small, now to play the few games I have for the PC.

On another note, am I right in assuming that the HP USB "docking" stations are not worth it? I didn't realize that there wasn't a real HP docking solution that doesn't use USB. I'll settle for a good stand that will allow me to open the laptop to see the screen -- any suggestions for a 17" model?
FWIW, ordered on 3/30 for $909.99. I didn't receive a delay email, so I'm hopeful that this will ship around the estimated build date. Even with only 6GB RAM, this price still looks pretty good with the Radeon and Bluetooth upgrades. (I also got about $32 cash back from Fatwallet.) It's annoying that HP charges your card when you order and not when the item ships. -
On the following page click "Laptops/tables/netbooks" link and choose one of the last 2 options dv6t-6000 for either the Select Edition (dual-core) or quad-core laptops and then on the new page select the "Manuals" link.
Select a product or category from the list below - HP Customer Care (United States - English)
The manual does state that it uses DDR3 memory rated at 1333Mhz. So the Crucial website is wrong.
The manual also shows how to remove the LCD screen and keyboard for replacement. Be nice to find some upgraded replacement parts. -
I bought one of these last week when it was on sale for $7.
A powered USB 3.0 hub is worth $20-30.
I was going to buy one of these, but then I figured 3.0 didn't matter to me.
I suspect those HP 'docking stations' cost a bit more.
I miss the real docking stations, but I don't miss the cost. I don't mind plugging in an HDMI cable, a USB cable, and the power cable when parking a notebook on my desk. I just use a hub so that all the USB stuff runs from one port. -

Maybe they haven't updated their database for the 6XXX models yet. -
At least with the DV6t there is a single screw you take out and apply pressure to the void with a very thin screwdriver blade to pop the keyboard out of place. -

I wouldn't be surprised if a repaste would have a significant impact on temperatures. They do what appears to be a pretty serious hackjob during manufacturing. It's a plastic shield that covers everything but the die and they slap some compound on there.
-Rip -
All these returns are likely increasing the cost for everyone in the long run. -
Still waiting for my tracking email on my dv7 or the delay. If the delay email comes I am canceling. Can not stand hp Customer Service and the lack of communication between the builds and service reps.

For those interested I was chatting with an agent this morning regarding the new 33% off coupon. They refunded me $37.75 after talking through some of the scenarios. Here was my initial few lines:
08:42:32AM Session Started with (Agent)
08:42:32AM (Me): "Pricing question on order #H---------."
08:42:47AM (Agent): "Thank you for contacting HP Home & Home Store Chat and welcome to our Mega Sale! This is (Agent)! How are you today?"
08:42:57AM (Me): "Hi (Agent), I'm great. How are you?"
08:43:28AM (Agent): "I'm fine, thank you for asking."
08:43:43AM (Me): "I'm hoping you can resolve a minor issue with my order, H---------."."
08:43:57AM (Agent): "I understand that you have an inquiry about your order, am I correct?"
08:44:20AM (Agent): "What seems to be the problem here, (Customer)?"
08:44:36AM (Me): "At the time of purchase I applied coupon NB2212 which gave me $325 off. There is now a new coupon, NB8095, which gives 33% off. That would equate to $379.50 off my initial purchase price."
08:45:02AM (Me): "I'm wondering if you can just refund me the difference instead of me needing to return and re-order the laptop."
08:45:27AM (Me): "It looks to be a difference of about $54.50"
08:45:36AM (Agent): "Let me check that one first."
08:45:50AM (Me): "No problem, thank you."
We went on talking about the various configuration differences, etc. In my initial estimate I left out the 6770 upgrade, which made up for the difference between 54.50 and 37.75 after 33% off. -
Hey guys I was wondering if anyone could say whether it is worth it to pay $170 to upgrade the processor from the i5-2410m to the i7-2630qm? Will I see that much of a performance boost in day to day tasks? And will there be a difference in battery life due to the 10 watt power difference between the two processors?
Any help would be much appreciated (with rep +1)
Thanks

$170 is probably not worth it if that's the case, but it really depends on what you're looking to do.
Difference in battery life is likely not huge, except under significant load where the i7 would be using all four cores at max. Even then I'm betting it's a difference of half an hour on a 6-cell battery. -
Today is a good day. As I posted before - my DV6TQE shipped AND I also got 3 out of 4 credits that I managed to get from customer support in all these days. HP emailed me that the credits are issued and would reflect in my bank account in few days.
It has been a saga but now when I look back I think HP did a good job overall with return / exchange, credits on price difference of RAM, 33% coupon story and the credit for delaying the build / shipping by a week.
Overall I am a happy customer so far from the deal that I got with this amazing configuration. After reading reviews so far from the other members of the forum, I believe I will be happy with the product as well. Will post some review on 4/16 -
Does anyone know how to do batter wHR calculations? I know that might seem like a noobish question. -
dv7t just got delayed....
order date 3/22
estimate ship 4/8
delay ship date 4/20...
I am so fustrated right now, I am going to cancel it. -
-
-
Order 3/23
estimated 4/8
delay estimate 4/20
Despite it being 'impossible' to cancel my order, now suddenly I can cancel it by replying to their email any time before they send me a tracking number. -

"04/11/2011 01:54:10PM ME: "So the laptop was shipped today?"
04/11/2011 01:54:35PM Agent (Shel D.): "Yes."" -
If they can't keep up with the orders, then why the hell do they keep giving these huge discounts?? 33% off is something you do to get rid if merchandise or to spark up slow sales. Maybe they need to be more realistic now with the build dates.
I have to wait, but to get laptop like this I thought I would have to pay double what I did. A G for a 2720, blu ray burner, 8GB, 6770..crazy. -
I know a couple of you had questions on the 2630cpu and ram support. Here is all the info you need to know on the cpu from intel.

It's affecting all OEMs. No other OEM has changed their prices yet either.
I believed that the shortage is caused by the heavy demand for b3 chipsets mb and the rejection of the usable b2 chipset mb.
Luckily, I ordered a sb laptop a few weeks ago and got it a week later. -
I placed my order on 03/18 and the ship date was supposed to be 4/1. It got pushed back to 4/11. I still haven't recieved an email from hp but it seems as if it will get delayed again.

Still see nothing to recommend the 2820qm, it'll be a lot easier to feel the missing $200 in your wallet than the extra 100mhz of clock speed over the 2720qm.
The CPU Marks are pretty much what I'd expect from reading the specs:
2820qm: 7,653
2720qm: 7,506 (I don't think anybody will ever miss those 150 points)
2630qm: 6,357 (but isn't the 2635qm identical? it gets 6,780) -

really good review, not sure if its been posted yet -

It took a while to get through, but the woman I spoke with was very courteous. I expressed my dissatisfaction with the delay and the price drop, and told her exactly what I was looking at. After she was able to verify the coupon code, she gave me a $70.70 credit (1165.49 - 1094.79) to make up for the pretax price difference. Standard disclaimer, of course: the credit won't post until the order ships, and it won't lower the tax I pay. However, she's also going to see if she can speed up the shipping time - not that I expect it to help, but I'd be happy to be wrong.
One last note: I do have the EPP code on my account, which caused a little confusion at first. (To use the good coupons, I had to build the system and THEN log into my account; they don't work on EPP-flagged systems.) It is also possible that the EPP code influenced HP's willingness to issue the credit I requested.
