Ten watts is a huge difference depending on the time frame that figure came from. Sounds way too high, but comments made throughout the post lead me to believe the dv6qe is easily getting over four hours with medium usage. So depends on what your looking for, to me the under 200 bucks for a little future proofing is worth it....You know Windows 8 will operate soooo much better on the quad

10 watts is the difference, 35 watt for the dual core and 45 watt for the quad core. So you think that 10 watt difference will lead to noticeable differences in battery life?

 

oh I did get the delay notice and called in for extra discounts, but it's still not cool.

 

I went with the i5-2520m because I know I don't need quad core. For a while I've been using my i5-430m and it's been perfect. The dual core version of the dv6 is slightly lighter than the quad core dv6, uses less battery, and cheaper. I will save my money for an SSD instead which is more beneficial.

Aside from the watt difference, the quad will run a little hotter so the fans will need to run a little harder as well.

By the way, if you were to go dual core, get the i5-2520m over the i5-2410m. For only $50, the difference is 0.3Ghz increase. Whereas, the i5-2540m ($100) and the i7-2620m ($200) provide very little return in value (only 0.1Ghz increase in each case, although the latter has a larger L3 cache, I don't think it's worth it).

 

So uncool. They flew my laptop to Memphis totally skipping California where it's suppose to go. Looks like I won't be getting mine early like people who got theirs shipped to Alaska.

Personally I think it should be placed a bit higher.

 

based on vantage GPU alone ... 6770M has the 555 beat...
but 3dmark 11 GPU only , 555 has 6770m beat...

so i guess 3dmark 11 is the definititive benchmark for the notebookcheck rankings...

Looks like the score from the 555m with 3dmark11 is overclocked. Most stock 555m scores ~1300 because of ddr3 memory. The 6770m gddr5 definitely beats the 555m ddr3. The only laptop I know of with 555m gddr5 is the lenovo y570 which isn't released yet.

thats cheaper than getting my first one delayed and $20 for missing out on the ram upgrade...hoping to get a delay(wierd right)just not to many, so i can knock at least another $50-100....

 

Interesting according to that website, the ati radaeon 5850 is better than our 6770m

 

With the last of the orders rolling in for the 33% coupon, we can finally start to get those benchmarks on shore after a few members get their systems hooked up after April. Hopefully the 6770m doesn't disappoint. *crosses fingers*

Well my laptop made it to Memphis, TN but hit a clearance delay. Is that normal?

 

Looks like there's no more free upgrade to 8 gigs of ram for the dv6t quad.

 

I received my laptop yesterday. The manual for this (dv7t) states that it will support the Intel Advanced N-6230 wireless card. I had already purchased one. When I install it and try to boot the laptop it stops with the message "The installed wireless adapter is not supported" and all I can do is uninstall it. Has anyone else tried this adapter?

 

Wow that is some epic trolling on HP's behalf. I wonder why they would ship to Memphis though... hardly makes any sense.

 

Isn't that a BIOS thing? I had the same issue with my Toshiba.

 

I figure they could fix this in a BIOS update if they choose to. From my perspective, I spent $25 on an adapter that can run the 5GHz frequency because their manual states it will work, and then find out after installing it, that it does not. I will be talking with HP later today. Hopefully they will quickly fix this.

 

Just as I expected, no word on my notebook shipping out yesterday.

I ordered on March 17, its going to be a MONTH real soon

EDIT: Just called HP, now it has been pushed back AGAIN to April 20. Mind you, I ordered on March 17. I will now receive my notebook WELL over a month after Ive placed the order.

If anyone's interested, I ordered the dv7 drive kit last Thursday and it's supposed to be delivered tomorrow with standard shipping. At least they seem to be moving pretty quickly.

Ordered my dv7 on 3/25, supposed to ship today, but, you know....

 

Just got off a chat session with a very helpful agent. I was told last night to expect an email with shipping info by 10pm PST, but didn't get it. The agent today verified that my order was not on the list of delayed orders, but that after talking to someone (this happened 3 times, for 2-5 minutes each), it appears that it is waiting upon fedex to update the status. Time will tell.

 

Bugs, you ordered on March 17, right ? I did as well, and I was just told on the phone about an hour ago, that it has been delayed again until April 20.

 

Howdy. Actually march 26 was when I placed my order. I take what the HP rep with a very large grain of salt. I'll believe it when I get a tracking number, which so far I haven't. The one interesting thing of note was her claim that my order number was not on the list of delayed orders. If thats true, I don't know what differentiates my order from the others, ie is it a certain configuration, or just dumb luck. dood, I hope you at least got a free bump to 2nd day for your wait.

 

Yea, what really bugs me is that there is an almost identical notebook to the one I ordered in the "Quick Ship" list on HP's site

Where? The only quads I'm seeing are an old dv6 with a picture of the new dv6 and an old dv7 with a picture of an old dv7. Both with 6570m graphics.

I utterly HATE HP. I just received my credit that was promised for the delays. Sounds good right? No it's not 10% it's only 1%.

I havn't received anything about the laptop being shipped tho. Now to find the darn resolution number again.

Did the CSR specifically tell you that you'd receive the full credit before your laptop was shipped? It could be the case that they'll credit you the remainder of the 10% after your laptop ships.

I called on 3/30 and was told I'd receive an email in 24-48 hours and the full refund 24-48 hours after that which was 12 days ago now. Everyone else was talking about getting the money after shipment Which made me believe he just misinformed me and I'd receive it after shipment. I'm going to call them up as soon as I get my claim number that I left at home.

 

Hey Humble, so from what I'm understanding your initial order was delayed and you canceled and reordered this one? Did they send you an email offering you a 10% discount for your delayed order? Because if you get the right CSR they'll apply that delay discount to your new order. (They did for me).

 

I suppose, but then again there doesn't seem to be anything "normal" about this whole shipping/ordering/getting new laptops process =(. At least yours has made it out of the factory and is enroute! Hopefully you'll get it soon.

 

I am wondering about this too. I see that there is a BIOS update available on HP's site, but it doesn't mention anything about wireless card support updates. Incidentally, the Intel wireless driver downloads that HP has listed specifically lists that adapter under "Supported devices".

 

For those who were recently notified that their computers have been delayed to around April 20th, have any of you purchased the Special Edition (dual-core) or is it just those with quad cores experiencing delays?

 

It's an easy mistake to make, especially since the dv6 uses the new pic and the specifications include 'umber finish'. The overview for that one has Beats Audio, while the specs have Dolby audio with Altec Lansing speakers. I guess the most important part of that description is that features and specifications are subject to change without notice.

I went straight from the 8th to the 20th. My irritation level would be rising if I'd been double delayed like many of those who ordered before me.

The dv7t has two drive bays, so you don't have to replace the hard drive unless you want to. I bought a small (64 gig) SSD to hold the frequently read and infrequently written stuff like O/S and program files, and will move the HDD to the secondary spot for all the data and video files.

BTW, my drive hardware kits, ordered Tuesday the 5th, are on the FEDEX truck for delivery on Tuesday the 12th. Looks like I'll only be using one of them, assuming the computers arrive soon and I'm not stuck with accessories for computers I don't have.

 

I ordered a dv6tse on 3/21 and I called them yesterday and they said wait 24 hours. But the thing is I got that information on my second phone call and on my first phone call they said it was delayed to the 20th.

Ordered 3/21 est. Ship 4/4 delayed to 4/11

 

If it helps clear anyone's curiosity, I know when I got my first delay email it was nearly 48 hours after my estimated ship date.

OK I attempted to cancel the order since they can't give me an estimated ship date. They can only tell me it isn't anytime soon mostlikely after the 20th. Then went into their we are having issues with distrubtors but can't tell you who.

What 's me off the most is my desktop (which this was meant to replace) went up in smoke so I had to purchase a laptop from bestbuy since I still don't have this damn thing.

 

According to KJ, from the Envy 17 3D forum, Costco has a 90 days/100% refund return policy on computer... try that.

 

In my opinion, the most frustrating part of this whole situation is that there doesn't seem to be any sort of order that they are shipping in. Some people that ordered weeks after me have already received their laptops, and at least 1 person that ordered on day 1 just had theirs shipped yesterday. I ordered on day 2, and am stuck waiting until (at least) April 19. Why they aren't going with a first come-first served type of system is beyond me.

Tax, are you saying that you HAVE to move the HDD to the secondary spot, in order to add the SSD ?
