I totally agree with that. I had a chat with a CSR and they said something dumb like: "We expect an influx of orders this week and it could cause delays"... why would that delay MY order that was placed TWO WEEKS (or more!) before these NEW orders. It is just dumb!
-
Is there any compatible weightsaver or ultrabay for dv6t?
-
Is it just me or does anyone notice that only the laptops with 2630 and 2720 processors are being delayed?
-
FYI for all those who ordered a dv6t SE or are thinking about it. I believe HP knocked another $50 off the base model this morning $750 before coupons. I'm not sure why if they can't fill the orders that they already have but when I ordered mine on 3/14 it was $770 w/i5-2520, 640GB 7200RPM, & $250 coupon. Received delivery on 4/6 after short delay. I was able to easily negotiate a $91 refund by calling HP resolutions 866 217-6014 today w/credit reference #. Thankyou jordyne409 and ripwind for bringing the 21 day pricematch policy to my attention.
-
The CSR from DELL were sooooo much better!!!! At least I wasn't talking to someone from a call center in India. Its amazing when you talk to someone who can only read from a canned script. I know English isn't their first language, but does that mean you can't use common sense?? No way you are gonna get any question answered. Too bad the dell was so much more $$.
Have to wait till 5/2 for my new order I placed, because they couldn't change the processor 2 days after I ordered the first laptop. How are you not be able to change something on an order that is not even going to be built for 3 weeks?? Maybe i'll sell the first laptop on ebay instead of sending it back, try to make a few $$. -
Hi everyone,
Just like to say a big thank you to all of you for your very your helpful comments. I've been lurking on here for weeks and finally ordered a dv7t qe yesterday. Just by the way do all these custom laptops come from China via Anchorage or what. I naively thought they were all assembled in the USA. -
Its assembled in Shangai, China
-
Not sure if this is it HP in Shanghai, China
-
I feel your frustration. They couldn't change the graphics card option under 24 hours after I placed the order, and the error wasn't even my fault. >.< I don't understand how they have, what seems to be, absolutely no internal communication whatsoever.
At this point I'm stuck waiting for this laptop because no other build out there seems to compare to the price I'm getting for this one. UGH. I hate this. I hate waiting and being lied to.
I think if you could make some money off their incompetencies, more power to ya. -
Yeah, right now the quad version is *CHEAPER*. I don't think I'd pay money to downgrade the CPU LOL.
It would have to be at least $200 cheaper for me to be interested in a dual (and even then...) -
Just though I would add my frustrations. I ordered:
dv6t SE
i5-2410M
6770M
6GB RAM
640 7200 HD
Everything Else Standard
Ordered on: 3/23
Original Shipping date: 4/8
On 4/11 they delayed it to: 4/25
I called customer service a couple times and they gave me the same run around and excuses they gave you all in the previous posts. I knew it was all BS.
The matched the price drop that occured last week. (A drop of $82)
But this is the worst I have ever been treated when ordering a laptop. Funny thing is I have been ordering ONLY Macs for the past 4 years. This NEVER happens with Macs. Their laptops ship in 1 to 3 days TOPS. I have never had an issue.
But, I recently decided to stop using iPhoto because I did not like the fact that I was dependent on their database to organize and track changes for all 35K of my family photos. I switched back to Windows Live Photo Gallery.
I sold my MacBook and with the money I sold it for, got the power house above, AND a dm1z!!!
The dm1z is SUPPOSED to ship tomorrow. I am not holding my breath. -
Macs aren't flying off the shelves.
-
Ordered dv6 on 3/17 est ship 3/30 then 4/8 then 4/11 now 4/20
And I've already got so many rebates I know I can't even get any more out of them.
Weak -
LOL...
No, I guess not when compared to these HPs... After they price matched me, I was at $765 for my configuration.
I got the Dm1z for $400.
AMAZING for what you (will eventually) get... -
ZZzzziiinng !
-
three delays? really? that IS weak. I feel for you man. I would try and get HP for every penny you can for causing that kind of a problem.
-
Dang, that's awesome! Well hopefully you'll love them once you get them! The DV6/7 are basically the same thing as the Macbook Pro, only with Blu Ray and a slightly faster GPU, for like 1/3 the price, so hard to argue with that

I ended up canceling my order as soon as I got the delay email. For reference I ordered a dv7Quad March 23rd, estimated ship date of 4/8, got a delayed email on the 11th pushing the shipped date to the 20th. Called today and Canceled!
-
I am about to do the same, Except I ordered WAAYYY back on March 17. Problem is, if I cancel, there is nothing out there that I can purchase for same price/specs
-
Those who are canceling, what laptop are you gonna get instead?
-
Has anyone else checked any other manufacturer forums to see if/who else is affected by parts shortages?
-
I don't see the point in canceling unless you find a better deal or need it right this minute (and possibly not even then).
-
Just spoke with HP rep. Getting credit of diff between 30% coupon and 33% coupon and also getting $50 diff on price drop. Add that to the $60 I am getting for 8 gig memory upgrade that was offered for free after I paid for upgrade and I am getting roughly $138 additional discount. So I am paying $804 or so out the door for a pretty sweet machine. There is no way I can cancel.
-
I did. I have previously ordered an Alienware and had the same runaround with Dell. I ended up canceling that and went with the DV6. And, just a note, Dell does not let you cancel. According to them, you have to accept delivery and then call for a return, and then they charge you a 15% restocking fee!!!
I had a better idea. I refused delivery, called my credit card company, and disputed the charges. Dell ended up eating the shipping.
I will NEVER buy a Dell product again.
But I have been looking at Sager, etc and all are experiencing delays.
Plus, you can beat the price and support (at least after you get it) on these HPs. -

Just got a confirmation of a $42.85 refund for the 3% difference in coupon codes that i used from what is offered now, and the resolutions dept. supervisor that I talked to also confirmed that it would be ontop of the $30.00 I recieved for paying for the 8GB of RAM before they offered it for free. Makes me happy to know that both were confirmed. Also got confirmed that my order as of yet has not been placed on any sort of delay list, although I wouldnt really mind it as long as i got a nice 10-15% off coupon.
-
no because i ordered mine the first day i think mar 13, i had like a 2 day delay...i received it(im on it)but dont realy need it(i have another laptop and desktop) so just ordered another one and will probably return this one this week
-
From my dealings with Dell over the past few days, they are suffering a shortage as well. Their build dates are in May at this point, first or second week. =(
-
I was suspecting this, when I (very informally) was looking at others. I might dig a bit into other forums. Not that it helps, but I am curious. Tx for the replies!
-
Sometimes it works better when the boot drive is plugged into port 0, sometimes it doesn't matter. I've just always kept my boot drive as drive 0 and my data drive as drive 1, so it's become a habit. You could probably stuff a SSD in the secondary bay and tell BIOS to boot from it if you didn't want to mess with removing the HDD.
-
Hi all, Newbie here. I ordered mine, a DV7t, last month and it is estimated to ship tomorrow. Can't wait.

Please use punctuation!
-
Don't get too excited, you may end up waiting MUCH longer than expected
-
Oh oh, good to know. Again, as I posted a few pages back(and Ill repost later on, when more people have received their dv7), I would be willing to donate a few bucks into a paypal account if the person can make a detailed walk-through video on how to install the ssd on the dv7. Hardware, software, etc.
-
Hey all. I have been reading this forum for the past 3 weeks now and I got some really good information from you guys on this amazing laptop. Anyways I am really considering buying the dv6QE ,but I need to know more about the battery life using the integrated graphic card with web browsing and light usage (after all, laptops are all about mobility
).I know some people briefly mentioned battery information, but I would like some detailed information regarding Battery Life and Consumption.
P.S : I live in the Middle East and this laptop is already here (no delays
) but it costs around $1100 with the Core i7-2630QM and the 6770.
Thanks a lot
-
The dv6t sounds marginally better than the average laptop, but without the subwoofer, it still is somewhat hollow sounding... the headphone jack sounds great. Not that the subwoofer on the dv7t is all that great or anything, but it does make for very tolerable listening.
-
Most people buy laptops for portability and battery life in which the dv6t provides, and which the dv7t hinders.
Not to take away from the dv7t's amazing specs, its more fitted to be a desktop replacement, than a portable laptop. -
Exactly why I bought it. Primarily anchored to my desk, but occasionally needs to go with me.
-
Same here. My laptop travels with me up and down stairs once in a while, but mostly stays in the same 10ft radius. Weight, battery, and size are a non-issue for me.
-
Basically that is correct.
You want the harddrive with the Operating System in the first slot.
(most likely the ssd)
Even if you are a noob, if you can use a screw driver and disconnect and connect a cable or two, you should be fine. -
Thanks, I am learning this as I go along and read through the forum. Ill wait to purchase the ssd when my notebook arrives. Would a 64gb be too much ? too small ? Can I go smaller than that ? Just trying to save a buck or two.. thanks again
-
Since I haven't received it yet, and I know the notebook doesn't come with OS recovery disks (unless you purchase them), you can make your own recovery disks right? Then using these disks install the OS on the SSD?
-
I've got an 80GB SSD in my desktop and one in my dead laptop. The 64bit Windows 7 OS takes approximately 20GB of disk space.
In my desktop I only have the OS on the SSD with some games as well. The rest of them go on the second 7200 RPM disk.
On my old laptop 80GB was fine for a 32bit installation (32bit Windows 7 footprint ~16GB). You just have to be picky on what you install, but I had no problems. Not going to store a bunch of DVDs or anything.
As long as you can have a second disk 64GB or 80GB would be fine. Make sure you do your research on SSDs though.
The initial crop had some stuttering issues. Check out www.anandtech.com for articles on SSDs. He's got some great articles.
Couple of good articles:
The SSD Relapse: Understanding and Choosing the Best SSD
The SSD Anthology: Understanding SSDs and New Drives from OCZ
Kinda old, but gives you some background and some lists of models to avoid. Most newer models should have the hiccups all cured. I will say that the SSD was the single best upgrade you can make to a system with regard to system responsiveness. -
So is this ok for boot ? Thanks again everyone
-
Check out how many GBs you are currently using. For me 64GB isn't enough.
-
I would say yes, it would be adequate and serve the purpose of a quick boot drive.
Crucial RealSSD C300: 64GB for $150 - AnandTech :: Your Source for Hardware Analysis and News -
Well I wasn't planning on putting anything on the boot drive, except the OS. I will have the other 640gb HDD in the notebook as well.
-
Exactly! On my desktop, I only have the OS and some things that I want to load quickly.
I've got the OS, Chrome, Gimp, Call of Duty:World at War. You just need to be aware of what you are installing to decide if you want the application to take advantage of the SSD's fast read speeds.
