I don't know whether to be happy or sad. My laptop has officially delayed for the second time to April 15th. But I do get 10% off MUAHahah...sigh..
-
I just got off of live chat with HP and the rep again said that my laptop has been delayed until 4/20. I asked numerous times for the 10% discount that others were recieving and the rep claimed that there is no way that she was allowed to give discounts. She also said that there isn't any way that the laptop would ship out before the 20th. About 30 seconds after the conversation I recieved an email from HP saying that the laptop has been pushed back but only until 4/15 as opposed to 4/20 that the rep told me originally. I also recieved a 10% discount off of my current order. Which date should I trust more? The 4/15 or 4/20? I'm betting on the 4/20. It's been a few months now that I have been without a lappy. I NEED my new one.

Hey all,
After having trouble with the wireless on my dv7, I returned it. It kept dropping the signal, and when it did have one, the speed was low. My old laptop next to it was perfectly fine. Hours with tech support didn't help much. Good news is I ordered another one with a 30% coupon and got more for about the same ammount of money. Here's the specs:
dv7t Quad Ed
• Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
• 2nd generation Intel(R) Quad Core(TM) i7-2630QM (2.0 GHz, 6MB L3 Cache) w/Turbo Boost up to 2.9 GHz
• 1GB GDDR5 Radeon(TM) HD 6770M Graphics [HDMI, VGA]
• FREE Upgrade to 8GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm) - from 6gb
• 640GB 7200RPM Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection - from 750 gb@ 5400 rpm
• $20 OFF! Microsoft(R) Office Home and Student 2010 - added office
• FREE Upgrade to Norton Internet Security(TM) 2011 - 15 Month Subscription (activation required)
• 6-Cell Lithium-Ion Battery (standard) - Up to 5.25 hours of battery life +++
• 17.3" diagonal HD+ HP BrightView LED Display (1600 x 900)
• Blu-ray player & Lightscribe SuperMulti DVD burner
• HP TrueVision HD Webcam with Integrated Digital Microphone and HP SimplePass Fingerprint Reader
• Intel 802.11b/g/n WLAN and Bluetooth(R) - added bluetooth
• Standard Keyboard
• HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope
I liked it a lot otherwise. Sound was pretty good from the speakers; battery life was around 2.75-3.25 hours (i didn't really time it though, just a guestimate) I really liked how easy the graphics switched to save battery life. It was more than fast enough and could handle what I needed it to do. It didn't really get that warm, if it did, it was around the left palmrest. Mind you I am coming off a 5 y/o dv5120us running windows xp, battery life always sucked (like 1hr tops) Hope this helps someone. -
Can anyone who has revieced their dv6t or dv7t comment on the keyboard? Back a couple hundred pages I saw someone said there was flex under the arrow keys. Is this true? if so, how serious is it? A long time ago in a forum far far away, I heard of someone actually placing supports under a flexing keyboard. Would this work?

Got my dv7 drive install kits today.
Each kit contains:
One drive mounting caddy
One long SATA/power cable
One short SATA/power cable
Four drive to caddy screws
Four caddy to chassis screws
From the description in the service manual, I was expecting two caddies. At least it didn't cost as much as a hardware kit for an Envy 17 or an old dv7. -

Don't worry about the keyboard flex at all. I probably wouldn't have even noticed it unless somebody brought it up before me. I don't use them that much and the flex is not noticeable unless your are pounding on your keys. -
That's good. Thanks for sharing.
I used my old desktop for college (that was before I even had my current laptop), and couldn't imagine typing everything on a laptop. A friend of mine wrote his whole dissertation on his laptop and complains about wrist cramping now. -

I believe that Win 7 Install can recognize that you have an SSD and optimize certain settings for your drive automatically. I don't think Win 7 would do the same for a drive image restoration to an SSD from HP's recovery disks.
Most people do a clean Win 7 installation, but those same people are always asking where to get Coolsense/drivers/all the other stuff that came from HP and not from Microsoft. The good part is that they don't waste any time removing HP's bloatware from their SSDs.
For the C300, it's 59.6GB.
My Nova 64 holds 59.5GB.
I'm going to move all the write intensive stuff like temp directories away from my SSD, to keep excessive erase/writes from eating into the SSD's lifespan. (somebody on these forums reported that Firefox can make over 1,000 disk writes while downloading a single web page)
Email folders that get rewritten every time a message comes in will go on the HDD. Temp files and browser cache will go on a RAMdrive, which will be even faster than SSD.
I'm also going to try enabling file compression on the SSD, since I don't think my SSD's Barefoot controller has compression. (Sandforce controller chips do their own compression automatically) -

BTW, I've been following this thread for a long time without joining in, so I want to thank eveyone for the their tremendous contributions. -

Your right intel implented a new technology called TRIM to reduce wearing out in ssd by high margin
A quote from Hardware Revolution
"...What TRIM does is erase the file right away, allowing you to write at full speed without waiting to erase previously used space.
Almost all SSDs support TRIM by default now.
Now, to use TRIM, you need a OS that supports it, such as Windows 7, Mac OS X and some variants of Linux being the only ones as far as I know. You also need a SSD that supports TRIM obviously. Note that OCZ, Intel and a few other SSD manufacturers offer a utility that mimics what TRIM does, for OSes that don’t support TRIM."

I ordered 2 DV7ts on 03/18 and orig. estimated ship was 04/01.
04/01 got delayed to 04/11.
I called Friday 04/08 and they credited me $150 for the 8GB RAM difference, since I only got the 6GB upgrade.
I called today 04/12 because I had not heard anything from HP yet.
I called the HP resolutions department 866 217-6014 and immediately got a supervisor, because when I asked for one, she said she was one.
I mentioned the 15% off coupon email on your next HP order and said I want the 15% off rather than the 10%.
After a few minutes she came back and said I was granted the 15% off.
She said my estimated ship was 04/20, which I am more inclined to believe than the delayed ship email I finally got from HP today that said 04/15. -

ahhhhh, my friend and i both ordered on the same day his was 4/11 and mine was 4/8. I got a delay notification and nothing for him soo far.

I do not have the computers in hand yet, but that's the part number from the service manual for the new dv7, and the cables in the kit look like the cables in the manual.
Shipping takes a big bite out of your wallet on small HP parts orders. -

So I still got a little extra, over the standard $60 they were giving people on each laptop. -
I feel like Charlie Brown. After being told "not on the delay list" I just got the **** email stating that my new ship date is 19 April, or no later than 7 days from orignal (which would be 18 April). Aggghh!

Does anyone know if there are ANY differences between the Recovery Discs you can make yourself when you get your lappy and the one's HP will send you if asked?
Any hidden features, goodies?
Also, to the forum regulars... when in the hell are they going to get the search working?
The searching within a thread (search this thread) is really what we need working because google doesn't seem to handle that. -
I just got the delay e-mail moving my estimated ship date from 4-11 to 4-19 also. Quite annoying to say the least.
I'm gonna give them a call and see if i can get some money off this thing. -
Just got off the phone with HP after my final delay and coupons, and rebates and back and forths with the reps my final after everything is

I ordered my dv6tqe Monday evening and have an estimated date of May 3rd. Hopefully their production line will be caught up with demand by then. I noticed that a "quick-ship" version was added today. I am hoping that some of the reported delays have to do with the production requirements for HP to stock the "quick-ship" version and now that they have that resolved, the lines are freed up for custom orders.
They have not yet included a "quick-ship" version for the dv7tqe. -
It will drive me crazy waiting for it...easy to become obsessed with following this thread!

On another note, I saw the question regarding the keyboard. The Samsung I purchased (...and returned...) had a similar keyboard and I generally loved it. The numeric keypad was not the greatest due to a small "0" key and the resulting interesting placement of the arrow keys, but the feel, other spacing and solidity was great.

I received my dv7t and installed the Intel Advanced-N 6230 WLAN card as it is in the list of supported adapters in the manual. Unfortunately, the laptop has other idaeas. It will not boot with the error that it is an unsupported card. I talked with HP tech support and he has opened a ticket for HP to check into this. If anyone else has tried to install this card, did it work or did you get the same error I did?
