I don't think so, RE: Intel?s Sandy Bridge i7-2820QM: Upheaval in the Mobile Landscape - AnandTech :: Your Source for Hardware Analysis and News . You will notice that all the SB Retail processors support WiDi, and have Max GFX Freq.: 1300MHz; the SB OEM processors fall short.

Okay, so I received my dv7 the other day 4/13. However, I'm not so sure I really like it. I'm not so sure it's almost a $1000 better than my old dv6 from a few years ago. I'm having trouble with the screen resolution?? or something, it actually is hurting my eyes. Maybe it needs to be adjusted or something, but it seems somewhat blurry.

I've tried tweeking it to the best of what I know to do, maybe you all can help me with this. Anyway, if this is as good as it gets.... well, it may be going right back to HP :(

Compmom, for starters, are you running at 1600x900?

I can't get acceptable results from any LCD monitor, especially displaying text, unless I'm running at the display's native resolution.

Do the new dvxt series laptops (6000) have Sata III ports? If I put a SATA III SSD drive in it, will it run it as SATA III or SATA II?

Is it possible to adjust the sharpness?

That's a good thing to check. Although I find it difficult to believe that it would ship using anything but native resolution. I suppose it's possible.

All indications are that the two hard drive ports in the Sandy Bridge dv7 are SATA III, and the one hard drive port in the dv6 is SATA III while I believe the optical drive in both are on SATA II ports.

Putting an SSD in a hard drive bay should give you SATA III. Removing the DVD/Blu-ray drive and installing an SSD there will almost certainly limit that SSD to SATA II.

Hey, is it possible to split this forum up now ?..Maybe something like leaving this one to awaiting delivery on dv6&7 and start a new thread for owners and upgrades. Don't get me wrong I would still be checkin both because I don't have mine yet either (ordered 3/17), but things like changing wifi cards, bios upgrades, etc. are going to become important and hard to find for the people who have already received theirs.

I like the idea of a separate DV6 and a DV7 Owners lounge. That way they are specific to each computer AND they are for owners, not for "owners to be", like many of us here. :)

You can start a new thread to do a fork. It be awhile a mod since they implemented their new outline of the hp forum.

They no longer sticky threads except for the directory.

Consider that it's possible by around mid May that most of us will (should) have our computers. Then there will be two parallel threads, making it difficult to converge useful information.

    Just a thought.

There's no way that's possible. It's beating out AMD's 800 cores/16ROP parts now as I understand it, and there's just no possible way a 480 core/8ROP part can beat it.

Those are meaningless-they don't tell us settings, resolution, etc. The site's handy as a repository of data on specific GPUs, but the benchmarks aren't done right. What you're claiming is just plain impossible. I mean you're also be extension claiming the Radeon 6970 and 6870 get beat by the 6770.

Yeah, "GFLOPs" ratings would be if all 5 of AMD's cores in a set were working 100%, which doesn't happen. Generally 1 of Nvidia's cores is worth roughly 4 of AMDs, both because of inefficiency, and because Nvidia's are clocked higher.

As I said, the computational performance should be not quite double on the GTX 460 (or the Radeon 6870). What I said is almost 3x better is the fill rate. The base clock speeds on both are only 50mhz off, and Nvidia has 3x the ROPs. At any resolution the GTX 460 will get almost double the performance for running programs, but at higher resolutions or with higher AA, etc., the GTX 460 will be nearly 3x better.

I checked with DELL(was gonna buy one) and they said the 2630qm version of the laptops support WIDI. I also called Intel and they said what matters for WIDI is that you have the intel video graphics built in and an Intel wireless card. He said he was confused as to why the 2630qm didn't show up on the list of chips. To get WIDI the manufacturer needs to have the Laptop setup for WIDI and you have the intel video/wireless installed.

I reordered the 2720 anyways, for ~$100 more after discount, it seems like a no brainer for me(doing video transcoding). The couldn't change my original order even only 2 days later....

The right question to ask is does the onboard Maximium Graphic Processor Frequency work into the equation of whether WiDi works [as deisgned] or not. There is at least talk around that the 2630/35QMs were [potentially] 2720QMs that didn't meet spec.

Here's a good little video on WiDi I found. It appears as though this is enabled as far down as i3 from a year ago. So, it doesn't make sense that the 2630 wouldn't have it. But, given the additional processor load, it justifies having a Quad. Especially if you have one core processing the internet connection, another doing WiDi and a 3rd that is actually using the application, decoding the video, BluRay, or whatever program.

It IS NOT a # of core thing... It is the performance of the internal (onboard) Graphic processor... I think you will find every processor that is WiDI certified has a Graphic Processor [Base: 650M, Max: 1300M] frequency range. The chips were all designed with this intended in mind, just some didn't cut the mustard. Just pose the question that I formulated to someone you trust (to be informed) and see what their response is.

I understand that the functionality depends on the integrated GPU, but as you can see on the video. There is still CPU loading that goes with that process, and a Quad would probably be better equipped for the loads over a dual.

Guys I know why our laptops are getting delayed! Has nothing to do with intel but rather the earthquake in japan affecting battery production. They can't get enough of the batteries that are used in the dv6t and the dv7t. Also on their battery website the replacement batteries for the dv6t and the dv7t are out of stock. Sucks that a shortage of batteries is causing all of our computers to be delayed!

You are correct with the battery being the cause of delays. I work for a major corp and HP is our main supplier for our enterprise. For both Servers and Laptops as well as other. We just got a new crop of laptops starting January. Every warranty claim on a laptop over the last 2 weeks has come back with a completly different model instead of sending a new battery lol. Now this is just word of mouth through our parts manager so take it as that. No concrete proof but weird that you hear the same thing.

Ordered my first laptop(reordered with 2720 processor) on 3/31 and its supposed to be shipped by the 15th. Funny, before I ordered it, I thought I would get it in a couple days lol!! Was pretty upset when I had to wait over 2 weeks, but now have to wait until 5/2 to get the laptop I want, and i'm sure that will get pushed back too....

I hope its not held up because of the battery. Send it too me without the battery, at least I can pet it for a week..

The one thing that doesn't add up is when they say that they do not have no more shortages of components. Ok well if that was true wouldn't everyone's laptop get shipped asap?
Wouldn't mind a honest answer from a major company once in a while.

Yeah the damn battery. Most batteries are manufactured in Japan or Korea and it looks like HPs only supplier for the dv6t/dv7t battery was located in japan and was affected by the earthquake. What I don't understand is why a big company like HP doesn't have alternative suppliers that they can look to. I'm sitting here waiting for my laptop because a battery shortage. Just stupid to even think about :(

Has anyone's laptop been delayed THREE times? This means that you had an initial estimated ship date, it was delayed until April x, on or after April x, it was delayed until April y, and finally, on or after April y, it was delayed until April z.

When i spoke with a superviser at HP Resolutions, I was told that HP does not expect the customizable dv6t and dv7t to be delayed more than twice.

I am curious if he was telling the truth.

    Thanks.

I really don't think it is about honesty with alot of these companies anymore.

I really think that most of the people at these places really dont know what the hell is going on, dont really care, are too stupid to, or there is alot of miscommunication. And more than likely a combination between all of these.

I see this ALL the time anymore, and its not just with HP.

Saw some Vantage scores in the Newegg reviews, seems pretty good compared to a DV6 which does P6500 stock, and I think about P7400 overclocked.

    3D mark vantage scores:
    Turbo On: 8336
    Turbo Off: 7965
Battery: 1642 (was it set to automatically switch to Intel graphics on battery?)

I still wouldn't want that thing, it weighs a pound more than a DV7. The advantage a 15.6" has over a 17.3" is portability, but if the 15" is that much heavier, what's the point in getting the 15"?

Someone a few dozen pages back said he had been delayed four times. Did the rep say anything about what happens if it is delayed more than twice?

No i did not ask. I would assume you can continue to get credit/refunds as long as they keep delaying shipment.

If they reach the point where they are losing money on an individual order, I bet they're going to have to stop offering credits / refunds or just cancel your order.
