Not necessarily. I've heard that, in notebooks, the new chipsets still report "B2" in programs like that due to OEMs not editing BIOS to report B3, and that it is the revision number that matters. I think that "09" is the number for the fixed one, but I'm not sure. Still, HP could be sued (by customers or even by Intel) over something like this, so I don't think they'd be so stupid as to pull this. (I originally thought they might, but some research and thought changed that tune.)
EDIT: Yeah, I'm fairly certain that "04" is the affected one and "09" is the corrected one. This should help: http://news.softpedia.com/news/How-...-Is-Affected-by-Intel-s-SATA-Bug-182252.shtml
-
Well, doesn't really matter, the funny thing is...i they don't want people to know what edition it is...they also prevent people from NOT being able to return the laptops.
That means I have until April 30th to just return my laptop hah. -
Well, the problem is really that, HP started selling affected laptops again. So every argento laptop that was sold prior to the new umber laptops being released, was an affected laptop.
-
Looked into it more, and I was wrong. CPU-z can't be used to reliably identify the chipset.
Aha! Here's what you need to look for: http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m17x/560916-dell-send-me-chipset-rev-b2-3.html#post7269184
You want to find this: SLJ4P-BD82HM65 -
Maybe you could use the Gigabyte '6 Series SATA Check' utility to verify the chipset version. I haven't tried it, but people say it works with all 6 Series motherboards.
Here's an article about it: Maximum PC | Gigabyte Utility Checks Your Sandy Bridge SATA Port Configuration -
Hi guys, I already asked about this in another thread but since the discussion is a bit different here, I ask again:
I ordered the older generation (old graphics card - no USB3.0 BUT with the 2nd gen processor). The specs are given below:
dv6t Quad Ed
Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
2nd generation Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2630QM (2.0 GHz, 6MB L3 Cache) with Turbo Boost up to 2.9 GHz
1GB ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) HD 6570 GDDR5 graphics [HDMI, VGA]
FREE Upgrade to 6GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
640GB 7200RPM Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
No Additional Office Software
No additional security software
6-Cell Lithium-Ion Battery (standard) - Up to 6.0 hours of battery life +++
15.6" diagonal High Definition HP BrightView LED Display (1366x768)
No TouchScreen (includes HP TrueVision Webcam)
Blu-ray writer & SuperMulti DVD burner
Intel 802.11b/g/n WLAN and Bluetooth(R)
Backlit Keyboard with HP SimplePass Fingerprint Reader
HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope
The laptop is already shipping. My question is should I keep this one or go for the newer model. Are the heating issues really that bad that I should return this?
eSATA is good enough for me in place of USB 3.0 and also I'm ok with the standard webcam. If i need a HD webcam later, can always get an external one. Curious to get your answers.
Will I be getting the faulty chipset or the good one? How can I check for this (newbie here) -
If my order has a build date of 4/4/11, does that mean it will ship that day or what? Thanks.
-
'build' ... are you sure? MY order confirmation email contained the phrase "estimated ship date" ... which is approaching FAST ... so I don't expect any early arrivals. The last one only took 3 days from China to the East Coast and I didn't pay for any expedited service...
-
All of your laptops are coming late. You're in line behind the people who ordered the previous version, since HP doesn't have enough chipsets for everyone yet. That's the reason so many coupons and deals have been coming out; to give incentive not to cancel your order once it's delayed.
-
makes sense, any idea how late?
-
You will likely be getting the faulty chipset, dowloard CPU-Z to check. It will likely say B2, not B3.
Regardless of whether CPU-Z is correct or not, it seems trivial to me that the new chipset would not show up as B3, it's an easy thing to implement, and Intel would have done it. It seems that HP just decided to ship these laptops because they knew that the new ones are coming out soon so it would be cheaper for them to deal with replacing the affected laptops later then trying to replace them all now at once, that would create enormous delays and supply issues.
I suggest returning and getting the new version. USB 3.0 does make a big difference, so do better graphics and audio system. -
If mine does not ship on the 28th, I am going to cancel. I don't 'need' a laptop and if I don't have it by my trip on the 4th (28th will be my cut-off) i'l just cancel my order and or send it back un-opened.

NEW "GREY STEEL" color is out!!!
-
For what model ? I can't seem to find it.
-
dv7tqe - click on the product to get to the product page. They just rolled it out today, not everything is updated yet. The rep told me there was a lot of blowback regarding the "umber" color...which is pretty ugly.
-
That picture has been there for a week or so, but I still can't seem to find it as an option. Anyways while I havn't seen it in person yet, I think the umber is cooler (personal opinion I guess, I always thought the color silver/grey color looks kind of cheap in general).
Anyways, I hope HP gets their production on, I ordered my umber DV7 on the 13th and it was supposed to be shipping today... I too am still in production.
I thought that was kind of optimistic since I ordered the older quad core(since cancelled) on the 9th and its estimated ship date was the 29th. So hopefully soon.
Edit: Or did they replace umber all together and not update the high preformance laptop page picture. -
No, the picture on the product page has been updated just today. I called to confirm, they just changed the color as of today. The umber color is actually not black but brown, and glossy...in my opinion, it makes the laptop look like a toy. The silver is nice because it looks stylish...a very MacBookPro-like look
Haha. Well anyways, to each his own.
They really should offer two options. -
Mar 13, 2011 $909.99 HP Pavilion dv6t Quad Edition customizable Notebook PC Order in production
(Estimated to ship on March 25, 2011) Tracking provided upon shipment.
My order probably delay, it's time to call HP and cancel it
Going to pick up sony SB -
it will be so annoying if hp change the product design (or at least chasis colour options) before anyone has even received their new updated models! how are we supposed to make informed decisions? im getting pissed off, anyone else?
-
Why do so much people say that the umber color is ugly... In my opinion, that umber color is very stylish and not look like every other notebook... this steel grey looks so lame.. i hope i get my dv7 in that umber brown look
greets -
Does anyone even have a Umber dv7t in their possesion or are we basing our like/dislike of it on photos? I ordered a umber 2 days ago and now I cant decide if I should change to the new color. If anyone has any good pictures of the umber dv7 please post!!
-
I should clarify; I'm speculating, but I think that my conclusion makes sense when you consider that the older model is still shipping to some people. If I'm right, I have no clue how long it will take. However, I don't think you guys should be shocked of it goes into early-mid April.
-
look at this videos

YouTube - HP Pavilion dv6 and dv7
YouTube - HP Pavilion DV7
greetz -
Actually I just went back and looked again, yes it says "estimated ship date is April 4". When I was placing the order I remember it said "build" date was April 4.
-
Nope. I am actually pretty happy, I really hated the umber design, and I called on multiple occasions, as well as others, to ask for a different color. Looks like they've listened...
But I can see how those who ordered the umber one are annoyed... -
I like the dark umber color better then the grey, one i think it looks way better and a color that not a lot of people have for laptops.
-
Th silver color looks more bold since it is more contrasting with the keyboard and the screen, it also resembles the all-famous MacBook Pro, and also, it does not show dirt and fingerprints as easily. That's just my opinion.
-
I order mine on the 13th too and should had ship today. And HP has not sent me a email or anything let me know what they tell you if you call them.
-
-
I've also ordered a DV6T-6000 version. Has anyone gotten their's yet? Someone please confirm for me that you can switch to Intel integrated graphics for QuickSync and save power.
Also, I'm interested in getting aftermarket higher resolution screen, maybe 1080p. Has anyone look into this and which model will work? -
It will be interesting to see what color I get.... but I think I'll be ok with either.
-
Today was the first day they were estimated to ship, but nont has to my knowledge so it's still alot of guessing rather it has switchable graphics or not, however I am pretty sure t does.
-
I agree, I have seen the old grey ones in person and like them, but I also like the uniqueness of the brown one aswell.
-
When you order it was it the dark umber,if it was then thats the color you will get i think.cuz i order mine on the 13th and it was dark umber i hope i don't get the grey one.
-
Well I ordered on the 21st with a ship date of 4/4.... what do you think, grey or umber?
-
The new gray color just came out today, according to an HP rep. So if you ordered any earlier, you will get the umber one, most likely.
-
I think still umber cuz i bit they are going to do the grey for $25 more if you pick it.Which color do you like?
-
Where did you get this information?
-
No i'm just saying like when you Customized a laptop that its in more then one color,if you pick a other color it's $25 more like on the G series Laptops.
-
Oh, they told me they have gotten rid of the umber color in general, the gray is just how it will be now. You can still get the dv6 in umber if you like umber, I think. But I doubt they will be keeping that too long either, the brown doesn't seem too popular.
-
Anyone who says "I confirmed it with a rep on the phone" is immediately ignored by me. Most sales reps don't even know what a Hard Drive is. Heck, if HP cannot evne update their own website with accurate pictures of new models, how in the world do you expect a rep (even if you get lucky to get one intelligent) to receive the correct information and relay it? You guys have way to much faith in sales reps. If they can't touch and see the product with ther own eyes, they cannot offer any accuracy. Since these are all build in Shang-Hai, or somewhere in China, there is no way the reps are even going to know what the final product will look like.
-
How do you pick the color? I didnt see any color picker in the online configurator.
-
You can't pick it. According to HP sales, they only sell the gray one now. But they have not updated that product page fully yet. I would call them and ask if you are interested in the umber. Personally, I am waiting a couple days to make sure I will get the gray one
-
HP will update there websit today i think to make the new change.Which color you like?
-
Great... I hope there will be a gray dv6 when my umber dv6 ships on the 8th + delays. I'll definitely exchange. Or return.
I confirmed' it with a rep on the phone that I'll be able to return the product.
-
Well after looking at both colors, I am leaning more to the umber.... the grey one just looks like the one I have now pretty much (when open), my outside is shiny black plastic though. The umber makes it look different.
-
You are 100% right,I think the same thing how can they know so much when they are not making the laptop over there on China.
-
Definitely the old style. I love the gray. It doesn't look like a toy, and it is not glossy so it shows less fingerprints.
