I definitely agree. HP reps usually have no idea. That's why I call 2-3 times regarding the same issue. Haha

 

Yep i think the umber color make's it stand out more (my opinion).

 

I think that the whole thing isn't really fair.

For the people that liked the old MacBook-like gray design...it wasn't fair at first, because they introduced the umber, which in our opinion isn't that great.

For the people that saw the umber and loved it, they can't get it anymore, also not fair.

The solution: offer color options...how hard can that be?

 

I ordered umber because i NEED a new laptop soon, i'd much rather have the grey though. so i am annoyed.

 

The only thing i hate about the umber color is that there's too much going on when the laptop is open. If only the top speaker cover was black too. The tri-color thing makes it look silly. At least the gray looks more professional. IMO

 

The $150 rebate on the dv6 has now changed to $180. I just cant work out what's actually going on upstairs at HP. Things change minutely.

 

You can return within the first 21 days. So - order the new gray one now, and return this one once the gray one arrives. You should be able to just swap the drive...

 

Well yeah your right put the thing that we should think of is getting the laptop,and men i hope it does have the intel sandy bridge b3 not the b2.Do you know a way how to check which one you have?

 

I have this feeling that trouble is brewing at HP...all of this stuff can't be good. Lies. Changes. Wrong products sent out. Idk.

 

Just don't order before you know for a fact that it's the gray one you're ordering. Wait until it's explicitly listed in the overview/spec. The pictures can't be trusted. HP is such a shady company.

 

CPU-z. Some people say it's not a reliable source. But IMO, if they use the new chipset, CPU-Z will show B3. Of course, support will try to convince you otherwise.

 

You had a choice? Can anybody really believe they are going to change colors before the first run have even been delivered? Could Steel Grey be a choice in the future? No doubt, it could be, but parts are spec'd and ordered MONTHS ahead of time. It make about as much sense as a different motherboard for 2 drive configurations. Could it be possible?? Sure, I guess ... very likely?? use just a little common sense.

I never said I had a choice, and I said I cant believe they would come out with a new colour before the first run has been delivered. All i meant was I would be damn annoyed it that was the case.

 

I do kind of agree. When you are spending this kind of money, you should know what you are getting and then make a decision on what you know. Now that they are changing everything up I think HP is in for a whole mess of problems when people start receiving their computers and are unhappy with the color they got and start complaining or sending them back to exchange.

I like the umber look. Kind of reminds me of the interior in a nice luxury car. Dark brown with silver accents. Pretty classy looking notebook if you ask me. Unique too. If they come out with a backlit keyboard I'll be pissed though.

 

If they do, you buy a replacement and install it. If you examine the dv7t and Envy 17 service manuals, it appears that the keyboard power connector may actually exist on the dvt7. The keyboards are not identical however, so swap is unlikely a solution. And if HP does offer it, third parties will have them too, for less. Really nothing to get too pissed over ... but the differences between the dv7t and the Envy are becoming smaller and maybe they felt they need somethings to remain different.

 

I agree. Guys, the new DV7 and DV6 is a dark umber finish. The finish is closer to a bronze than a bland brown.

Costco and HP have been playing the wrong pictures game since the new generation DV6 and DV7 were released on March 13th.

Costco has pics of the dark umber color tied to the old silver argento laptop specs. HP originally had the new dark umber color listed with the new DV6 and DV7 then screwed it up sometime last week.

The sales reps do NOT know what the hell they are talking about and the older argento silver style DV6 and DV7 is just that... the OLD version. I blame this on confusion with the webmasters and the sales reps... nobody really knows what they are doing.

Exactly. I knew what I was getting into when I made this purchase online. But it still sucks. When ever I get an email notification I pray its a shipping notice from hp, and I am checking the order status 3 times a day. Kinda sad I know.

 

I just hope I get mine before My eviction date . LOL

 

It's just ridiculous that everything takes this long. It doesn't take that long to build a machine...the order to door date should be more like 5-7 days.

Thanks. I was actually wondering if the Envy 17 keyboard would fit in the dv6qe. It looks like the dv6 and dv7 use the same size. Was wondering if it would be possible to disconnect that horrible trackpad light and use it to power a keyboard.

 

Yeah.. i agree. This is I think the 2nd time that HP has put the silver chassis picture on the dv7t. I mean, I like that everybody is hoping for the silver, but it's going to be the umber. Let's put things into perspective. It still lists umber when you click on specs. Plus, when the laptops came out, every news outlet under the sun had pictures / videos of the umber color. That's an awful lot of umber they have lying around if they aren't going to use it.

 

I just called HP again...the ANSWER: PICTURES ARE WRONG, THEY ONLY OFFER UMBER. This sucks. If you want silver - PLEASE call HP and complain. Maybe if enough people complain...

Note: this is the 3rd time I called to ask about the color...the previous two times...I was told they are changing to silver. WDF?

 

No, I'm expecting mine to ship on the 8th. Hopefully no more than a week delay if any.

 

Either the gray version is a distant future model or someone at HP is teasing us.

 

I have never experienced such inconsistent information when buying a product. I mean, I know technology is changing fast but this is ridiculous. My estimated ship date is 3/30, hopefully I even get right hardware.

Also, I really don't mind the brownish color but the image on the website was gun metal gray if anything when I ordered. Unless I'm going colorblind. And now they keep tossing in this light grey into the mix. At this point I've given up trying to understand anything until people start receiving them.

My confidence in HP is diminishing by the day.

Edit: Also as of 5:15 EST the webpage for their "High Performance" laptops can't be found. Well played HP, well played.

I ordered mine on 14Mar ... got IMMEDIATE email order confirmation ... with a ship date of 28Mar ... however until I hear from someone that gets shipping tracking info ... I am not holding my breath

Let me know if they ship your's on the 28Mar.I keep checking to see if they ship mine but it only says estimated ship date 25Mar.But i have a feeling they wont ship it today.

 

From the video I saw, the umber color appears more like a dark bronze color...brushed metal with a gloss finish (not the ultra glossy piano finish). It looks very classy and distinctive like a fine piece of audio equipment. I'll take the umber over the "been there/done that" grey silver any day.

 

I think today is over in China ... I expect you will get ack'd before me in any case. On Monday, you have a legitimate CS question at least... Keep us updated.

this is JUST an assumption, but if you ordered on 13Mar and got a 25Mar ship date, and I ordered on 14Mar and got a 28Mar ship date, I WOULD NOT count on anything getting done over the weekend ... certainly NOT definitive, but logical.

This is ridiculous. HP is just being really stupid about all of this. No clarity, lies, delays, and half the people want the silver model but they don't have it.

 

HP is not better here in Germany, my DV7 should have been here this week. But they delayed it to mid of april because they had problems with some suppliers.. This really sucks..

 

Well I was going to email the HP webmasters to tell them how much confusion they are creating and how they need to get it together.

But wouldn't you know it, when I checked the new DV7t Quad... amagically the picture is of the dark umber again...LOL
