The delay does suck and HP is handling it poorly*, but a lot of us are getting great discounts on our laptops.

*Offering discounts is okay, but if we placed an order, I would assume we were all okay with the original price we got. HP might have been able to save a lot of money by just openly and honestly communicating with us.

I think the real lesson is, if you have to have a laptop by a certain date, then you might want to avoid HP. I'm typing this reply on the laptop I'm replacing, it's working, so I'm in no rush. But it seems like other people need laptops before they head out on business trips, get deployed, need it for school, or they're main laptop is dead.

I changed my order on Friday night when they offered me the Quick-Ship model and it shipped Saturday morning. Mine was standard 5-7 day shipping and it will arrive on Tuesday. The cancellation of my original order still hasn't gone through fully. As a side note, these ship form MEMPHIS, TN instead of from somewhere in China.

My original purchase looked like this:
    $1360
    -400 coupon
    -150 Instant Rebate
    $810
    49 tax (6%)
-43 Amex OPEN Savings (5% of Amex charge)
    $816 owed to Amex.

I ordered over the phone, so I missed out on 3.6% Fatwallet Cashback. Was going to PM this instead of cluttering up the lounge, but it looks like you've got PMs turned off.
BTW, we didn't have calculus in my high school, but we had a college 1/4 mile away, so I got to take freshman calculus for college credit my senior year. AP chemistry test got me 8 semester hours IIRC.

I believe you are correct because they invoice and charge you 2 days after the order. And only credit your charge afterwards.

Speedking please let us know if there are any differences between the quick ship model and the dv6tqe when you receive it. I'm still debating wether I should cancel my original order. Thanks in advance.

May I please know which coupon your are using? It seems to stack with the instant rebate whereas the NB8095 (33% off), does not.

I've been lurking for quite some time in these threads. I live outside the US but I'm having a freight forwarder purchase my notebook for me. I'm not in a real hurry but it would be great to have it as soon as I can.

Although I don't have my laptop in hand, it makes me feel even better knowing that I have stepped up to a "class 1" graphics. :D I can't wait to experience the differences between my old dv7-1245 and new dv7tqe-6000

So, I placed my dv7tqe on 04/01, and the estimated ship date is today, 04/18... I guess I'll receive the notification from HP couples of hour later. Hopefully it'll be the shipped notification; not the d...d...d... Grrrr I dont wanna say that word!!!
Yeah? Guys... I will cryyy if it takes longer to be in front of me...

I thought these systems you COULD just install AMD's normal drivers? I thought I read something that it would disable the switching, only work with the GPU, but that's fine by me, I don't want to use the Intel stuff AT ALL.

So am I wrong? These only work with HP or hacked drivers?

expect the delay email on the 19th. I placed my order on 3/16 and they just shipped it out on 4/16. Plus, from what I've seen, there are a lot of people who ordered before you who had their order delayed out to 4/27

There should be an option in the BIOS to only run on the AMD GPU. If not, you should be able to switch to AMD from within Windows, have that run all the time, and then update the drives to your heart's content. Unlike NVIDIA Optimus, I believe AMD is able to drive the display on its own.

Folks, let's keep talk about order status, delays, etc to this thread.

At stock clocks I think the 6770 scores higher than the 5850, but many people were able to OC their 5850 a lot more.

Do you guys think the new sandy bridge will make the laptops overall more reliable due to the less strain/lower heat? The sandy bridge and the cool sense makes it seem as if the dv7tqe will have no heating issues.

Well the current public hacked drivers requires to run your computer in a test mode which is pretty much disable all MS security features. Works well with most switchable models. This allows you to either go permanent with amd or able to keep up to date or etc... On the plus side, it is a bit safer on the hardware side of things.

The official amd drivers doesn't support switchable models that uses intel, could install it, but there is no guarantee if works for you. Everyone have different results and symptoms. There been reports of cards frying themselves, device not found, etc.
There are reports of some success.

You have to wait when AMD releases their Dynamic Switching Technology. That when you could use their official driver instead.

It also says the 6770m is faster than the 6850m... I don't think they updated all of the cards yet. Expect the 6770m to drop a little bit.

Accessing the DVD drive is pretty straight forward. You only need to take the bottom of the case off if I recall correctly.

I have a similar DVD caddy from a macbook pro and considered trying it in my DV6t. My only concern is I don't know how it's going to look, as the DVD drive has the built in "curved" outside face. I don't know if that piece could be easily removed and re-mounted to a caddy. It would either leave a hole in the side of your machine or look REALLY ugly.

Well, I have mine DV6 a few days, i could said that it is a powerful laptop~~~

But i have encountered a small problem... Some of the time switchable graphics doesn't work... I mean when i click on the button to switch to intel GPU, it doesn't pop out the windows to change..... :(

Is there anyone have the similar problem with me??

My drivers version is 8.810.4.1000 for radeon and 8.810.4.100 for intel GPU

It's all going to depend on how quickly the machine gets out of customs (the shipment originates in China and will likely enter the U.S. via Anchorage). But being FedEx, it's all but guaranteed that you won't get it any earlier than the expected date.

You can also call up FEDEX and explain that you need this package and you will not be home and they will give you some options. Last time I was called on my cell phone to voice verify tracking number that that I accepted the package as delivered.

Once you get the shipping notification email from HP, there's a link (right below the tracking number/link) that says "Pre-sign for this shipment." Use that form and leave it on your door to authorize Fedex to leave it at your front door (or back door / other options).

Can the shipment also be delivered/held at a FedEx Office store? I know it's an option for packages that originate domestically, but since it would technically be coming from overseas, that might not be available.

Hey guys quick question. I thought that the standard warranty was only a limited 1 year manufacturers warranty. Why is it on the HP website, the standard warranty includes:

Technical assistance via on-line chat, e-mail, or phone
Two year of parts and labor coverage, including customer-replaceable parts, return of equipment to HP, and authorized service provider options1
Two years of 24 x 7 toll-free technical support in English or Spanish
One year of limited toll-free software tech support
( HP Pavilion dv6 and dv6t Quad Edition series | HP Official Store)

Am I mistaken, or is their website incorrect?

This was beyond ridiculous weeks ago. I swear they have Costco confused as hell on their website with what image to show.

    Hello, new follower here!

I saw you're from Germany, how did you manage to order a personalized dv7? In Italy we had only some fixed-config dv6 model, and none of them suit my needs.. I would ask via PM but I'm not allowed at this time... :(

Guys if someone needs info about the models available in Italy and Prices:
    -dv6-6030el, i7-2630QM, 8GB RAM, 500GB HD@7200RPM, AMD HD6490, about 900 Euros (incl. taxes)
    -dv6-6020el, i5-2410M, 8GB RAM, 500GB HD@7200RPM, AMD HD6490, about 790 Euros (incl. taxes)
    -dv6-6010el, i5-2410M, 4GB RAM, 500GB HD@7200RPM, AMD HD6490, about 690 Euros (incl. taxes)

EDIT: Never mind, I saw later that yours was a prebuilt one... If someone know a way to order from HP USA not being an American citizen please let me know ;)

It's not that it is 2 years standard warranty. It's a certain credit card privilege that adds an additional year of warranty on certain products on top of current warranty.

Some companies does it automatically, but there are some you have to request manually.

Guess it was 2 years standard.
