Nope, not with HP models.
Your switchable are not different from mine, it is exactly the same interface for now. Until AMD release their Dynamic Switchable Graphic drivers if it still alive, you are pretty much stuck with HP for support for the latest driver.
I already played with the newer dv6t models. I love it, but I hate HP software support.

I'm afraid the boot.ini solution wouldn't do what I'm looking for since it uses the Windows boot manager and Windows 7 has moved to a new bcd boot system that no longer uses boot.ini.
Thanks anyway. -

FYI: It seems like HP is honoring the refunds they issued. I got 3 credits to my account over the phone with HP. HP has sent out 2 emails refunding me 2 out of the 3 credits. I am waiting on the third email, but after receiving the first two, I expect to be credited without issue.
EDIT: my order has shipped, which is in line with what the HP CSRs have been saying: that your order has to ship before they can issue a credit. But yeah, if HP promised credits, don't expect the credits / emails to arrive all at once. -

I just received my Quick Ship model today and I am here to clear up some misconceptions.
The Quick-Ship is the latest model (the 6XXX series)
The information in the specs tab of the HP page is wrong but the information in the PDF on that page is correct
It does contain the 6770M Graphics card with Switchable graphics
It does not have the defective chipset.
I think those were the major questions/misconceptions.
Basically the Quick Ship is the same as most of our customized models with the exception that the HDD is 5400RPM instead of the 7200PRM which most of us who customized it to.
I haven't had it too long to do a real review but here's my 2 cents. The color is not bad. Its like a dark dark brown. It's basically black without direct light. The keyboard and touchpad feel good. The bezel around it is not firmely attached. You can see the light bleed in the top where the HDD and Power LEDs are located. That's my only real complaint. The Beats Audio does seem gimmicky, but it is better than my old Dell E1505s speakers. I'm not a fan of all the crapware preinstalled so I think I'm going to do a full reformat. I haven't tried gaming on it, but it seems like it would be good enough to handle it. Other than that I don't know what else to add. If I think of anything else I will add to this. -

does it have a blueray player? ???Oh yes, how long did it take for you to receive the computer from the date you ordered? TYVM

How compatible is the 6770M with Linux?
I heard the latest beta driver supports the hybrid configuration. -
I ordered this one on Friday (4/15), it shipped out the next day, and I received it today (4/19).
So far it has no real problems and I think it was the right decision to cancel the original order and keep this. Actually my original order shipped and will be here on the 22nd. My question is, should I return it to HP for the $877 I paid or should I try to make a profit on eBay? -

BTW the Quick Ship model ships form Memphis, TN. -

Make sure to create a system restore point before you get started. -
If Windows' boot manger (XP, Vista or Win7) is used, the "boot" partition MUST reside on the first drive. The "system" partition becomes a second partition on another drive or the same first drive (if second OS is also on the first drive). Thus, there will be two drives with OS files and with different letters ("boot" as C: and "system" as D: or other). Even if you remove the letter from the "boot" partition (the OS doesn't really need the letter), you find yourself working without a C: drive. While Win7 can be easily hacked to fix this, it is not easy in prior Win OSs). This makes for a messy setup both for operation and for the purpose creating image-style backups.
It is true that some boot managers can switch the drive letters so that the OS resides on C:, but my current understanding is that Win7 doesn't take kindly to them. -

Was wondering if any of the current dv6tqe (second gen intel-based) HP owners could please list the factory-installed software (including HP and crapware) and perhaps an opinion or two as to what to get rid of or keep?
I am ordering one for myself this thursday but I was planning on packaging it with a trio of Roxio applications including Creator 2011 3D, Photoshow and Back on Track Deluxe. I know it will include an ad-supported version of Office 2010 but I was planning on purchasing a Technet subscription so that was the only license I know I would not need off the bat. And everyone already is aware that the WildTangent-based games (at least in my own opinion) is needless bloat, so that I know to get rid of - another thing that will be taken care of with a clean Windows 7 Ultimate install. Thanks! -
I was wondering about the nb8095 coupon for the dv6t quad, and I looked at fatwallet here: HP: 33% off customized HP Pavilion dv6t Quad Edition Laptop from $770.49 coupon - NB8095
It says the expiration date is 4/24/11. I have read elsewhere that it expires after 1350 uses. Which is true? If the latter, any estimates on how much time we have left? I don't actually have the money yet, but I probably will in the next week, so that's why I'm wondering. -
Ran a heat test with my DV6t, with and without my cooler, running Prime95's heat-intensive test.
With the cooler after 10 minutes my temperatures normalized and didn't rise above 80 degrees (celcius). My max core temps were 78/80/78/76.
Without the cooler and with the laptop sitting flat on my desk my temperatures normalized and didn't rise past 85 degrees. My max core temps were 83/85/82/80.
Ambient temperature in the room was around 70 degrees fahrenheit. -
@Izagaia
At the moment, very little benefit. It is preview driver, which in my opinion is not worth trying if you are trying get the laptop to be considered stable.
If there is a real problem with your new laptop, you're going to have a real hard time convincing HP if it is their problem after all.
They run off a script and expect you to only use HP Drivers and HP configuration. -

Just received 2nd delay notice w/10% offer. I'm in no real hurry and will accept. This brings me from $1,348 down to $1,214. Not bad since has 160 gig SSD, 500 gig 7200 rpm HDD, 8 gig ram and bluetooth.

Damn... I hope mine gets delayed then
-
-
Original shipping date was 4/18 and it's now 4/20 so tomorrow...
Ordered on 4/1. God, it's tough to wait. I just don't get how it takes over 3 weeks to build and ship a computer.
I means, it seems like a car could be built in less time.
The issue with very large companies such as hp is that customer service just doesn't have a clue of what's going on and are thus sometimes relatively useless because they can't answer questions once you start scratching the surface.
I'm trying to stay patient...
Has anyone ordered on the same date as myself? Just want to know whether anyone has already gotten his/her computer or also got a 2 day delay or more. thanks.
Ramiman -
Guys, any coupon of reduction on the quick ship model from the base $999 PRICE?
TipTip -
so has everyone had theirs delayed twice already? anyone had it ship on-time? or after first delay?
-
-
-
I think I'm the only person that has an order date that goes as far back as 3/17 and still no sign of shipping.
weak
oh and I ordered 2 batteries, is that why? -
So. Anyone have any thoughts on how well the dv6t QE run on Linux?
I don't want Optimus-like problems with the hybrid graphics arrangement. -
Has anyone tried the envy 17 keyboard on the new dv7?
-
Delayed to 5/2 on 4/19
Alright, I'm really sick of this now. How can Costco have units available to be delivered in 7-10 days and HP takes a month on pretty much the same units???
Should we all who are waiting hunt for some QuickShip coupons? Do we force HP to honor the deal and ship quickships instead?
Check out how Costco.com sold out quickly on these machines http://www.costco.com/Common/Category.aspx?whse=BC&Ne=5000001&eCat=BC|84|56670&N=4047229+4294967277&pos=1&Nr=P_CatalogName:BC&Ns=P_Price|1||P_SignDesc1&lang=en-US&ec=BC-EC5-Cat84&topnav= -
And following the thread, I know that HP has been shipping to people who placed their order on 03/20-03/22, and the process is very slow.
If you decide to place your order now, it's gonna be a long way.Mine was placed on 04/01. Waiting...
-
Also does anyone know how much longer this coupon will work? I'm going to place it sometime in May if the build time is accurate:

On the time when Japan was being experienced the disaster, HP did notice about some shortages of parts to build a laptop (which made in Japan) might come, so they no longer shipped as quick as 10 days as before; people got their laptop after fully 21 days of estimated build + standard shipping (without any delay) (because my cousin and my aunt ordered on this time, so I knew abt it.)
Now...it seemed like HP's demand has not been being met, for some factories in Japan closed. It leads to the delays on our notebooks.
T/N : Some representatives said the delay comes from the shortage of some parts to build a notebook, but some said it's from the Intel Sandy Bridge's problems...well...whatever they say, I'll wait for my notebook, because I love HP, and this generation of Pavilion is going to be awesome!!!
P/S : Sorry for my english, lol!Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -

It depends on you, but if I were you, I would do that, place order then wait. I'm sure that you'll get it before June 5th.

Also do NOT expect the mousepad to work right.
You get the crazy ill go where i want mouse movement affect.
This is due to every kernel ready the mouse as PS/2.
If you do get lucky and cat /proc/bus/input/devices and see it then it was patched. However all the work on the new synaptics/alps protocol is upstream an about 6 months away.
Also for battery you can get up to 8 hours running the cpu frequency at 900mhz accross all cores if your just browsing.
PM. If you have any questions. -
Dv7, 2 batteries and no sign of shipping.
But the good news is that HP has lied to me over the phone multiple times and this will be the last time I have to deal with them. -
Just got off the phone with a sales rep. She said that they had a lack of stock for a while but it has been refilled and they're working hard with FedEx to deliver to everyone that has been waiting. She told me they are in stock and she 'guarantees' I will get it by the estimated build date+days for shipping. So around may 15th for me if I order it today. If she is right, you should be getting yours soon.
-
At that time I was assured it would ship on or before 04/15.
At that time I was assured I'd be getting expedited shipping.
It still hasn't shipped, and after a 2nd call I found out the expedited shipping was a lie. The sales rep telling you that they are working with FedEx is a hoax, if they called up FedEx and said "we have 4 tractor trailers full of shipments for tomorrow" FedEx would show up and receive those trailers. They are trying to steer the blame away from the actual problem which is HP. -
