I heard the complaints about the screen quality too, and I can see where complaints would come from in the Windows arena. I think that it can be washed out too much when the brightness is too high for the conditions. I suggest some guys set it up to either automatically adjust to the conditions, or turn that feature off if it isn't bright enough for you.

I was actually impressed when I was watching a movie and some hd internet TV. It isn't all that bad. I have complaints in other areas.

You can check out my mini review in a previous post. But I'm really not happy with the new design vs the outgoing design. The old DV6/7 had the aluminum in the keyboard area wrap well past the edge. This one has an actual lip of plastic that feels like it'll chip at some point and is sharp enough that you can feel it in your wrist or forearm. The outgoing design was much better. With the lid closed, it rattles off the body quite a bit too, when you have it under your arm. It isn't super solid when closed. Kind of a concern for wear, when travelling.

Alright for those complaining about the display:

    Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Display

Calibrate your color and your cleartext and it should improve your experience a little.

I did not like the display that came with my laptop so I changed the panel, it's likely that your laptop comes with a standard one, however you might want to be careful about warranties.

I have been an HPdv7 fan for years, every since the first generation. I can say that the display is awesome when looking head on. Keep in mind that the older generations has an LCD screed. LED has proven to be more clear and have a better viewing angle.

I was hoping someone would confirm this. My previous notebook is a four year old DV6000, with an LCD screen, so I'm hoping this looks better  (although the LCD wasn't BAD[/I either])

Has anyone documented yet the ability to swap out the dv6 or dv7 LCD for a higher resolution option? Or is it all conjecture at this point?

I was able to swap out my old Toshiba LCD when it died. But I assume we will have to wait a bit for some compatible LCD's since these are new models.

It is still a conjecture. We have yet to identify a compatible screen model for this unit.

You just need to check the connector.

If it's a standard LVDS connector 1600x900 requires two channels so you are all set to go to 1080p.

My machine never even shipped with a 1920x1080 display.

Does anyone know if the Dv7 comes with any kind of basic DVD burning software with lightscribe label making capabilities? Or will we have to buy something for that?

The system should come with burning software as well as something to make Lightscribe discs. If it doesn't include the latter, you can download the drivers and label maker for free from Lightscribe itself.

So, is this just the order status thread, or are talking features now? OP was indicating order status.

Radukr has updated the OP, thanx

I would normally tend to agree, HOWEVER, I'm pretty ;) sure computer prices for peripherals will drop in the future, unlike the price of a new corvettes or Miatas. Unfortunately I do have a LIMITED budget and I want the best bang for my buck and am willing to wait a little while if necessary.

Finally got my dv6tqe in. Thing looks great. I had a question about the trackpad, I am having an issue with scrolling on it.

In the device properties there is a practice which allows me to scroll just fine, feels as it should. When I go to my browser its skips all over the place. I try to read a blog and go to the next post, end up jumping down 4 posts, back up 2, down 3...pretty frustrating. I tried this in Chrome and IE. Also in C:\Windows where there is a nice long list of files, it also jumps around quite a bit.

Is there a way to change the sensitivity on it?

If your monitor is 1440x900 or above you have dual lvds. however check if there are 8 cables or more missing from the monitor end.

Received my dv7 today--anyone else have problem with Blu Ray playback? (I have a Blu Ray writer). PowerDVD (never my favorite program) basically just sits there and does nothing or occasionally switches to its Moovie service. I don't think it's the drive, because it can definitely read the discs--just seems like software problems.

I got the upgrade player (only), and I haven't had any problem playing normal or Blu Ray discs. The software nags something about not supporting certain audio modes that would require an upgrade. I did upgrade to media suite ultra that included a better version of PowerDVD, but I don't think their premier offering.

HP dv7t QE Windows 7 Driver / Software Installation

Check other posts for how to do a clean Windows install. This is for after you've done a clean Windows installation. But before you do so, make sure you copy the SWSetup folder in the C:\ drive.

Here are the drivers / programs I installed, specifically the folders that I used (some came from the "Driver" folder, i'm not sure if I used all of them):

    Audio - Beats Audio
    BCBT7 - Bluetooth
    chipset - Some Intel stuff
CyberDVD - For Blu Ray player
*Note that the program wouldn't play Blu Rays until I installed some adobe bloat (Not adobe air. I don't think it was adobe flash player, because I installed that later. My programs also show Adobe Flash Player 10 Active X, so most likely this). With a DVD in, click on the "Guide" in the CyberDVD player, and it'll tell you that it can't run without adobe. Follow the instructions to install that and then Blu Ray playback should work
    Fingerprint - Fingerprint Reader Driver
HPOSD - Used for "On Screen Display" when you adjust brightness, volume, etc. ie: Without it your screen / volume increase, but there's no visual meter to show you.
HPSPIP11 - HP SimplePass Identity Protection Software. You can't use the finger print reader to log into Windows until you install this.
    IMEI - Intel related
LAN - LAN / Ethernet driver
    Misc - Card Reader
    MyWLAN3 - Intel wifi
    Touchpad - Synaptics Touchpad
    USB30HC - To enable USB 3.0
Video - ATI Video Card Driver / Program

Link to HP dv7t Driver / Software downloads (if you're looking for something specific / don't want to just randomly install stuff from poorly named folders).
Software & Driver Downloads HP Pavilion dv7t-6000 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

Please correct me if I any of those folders do something else or if I'm missing something important.

No I did not install Coolsense. I turned off Fan Always On in the BIOS and manually adjusted power options in Windows (Power Icon in Taskbar --> Right Click: Power Options --> Change Plan Settings --> Change Advanced Power Settings --> Processor Power Management --> System Cooling Policy).

    Nor did I want Lightscribe.

I tried to install the least amount possible to have everything working
Tested and Working: Wifi, Ethernet, HDMI, Card Reader, Brightness and Volume via the function keys, Beats Audio, Webcam and Microphone (work in gChat), USB, Blu Ray, DVD, Fingerprint Reader, Switchable Graphics.
Haven't Tested: USB 3.0 or DVD Burning
Let me know if I'm missing anything.

Btw If you have an SSD, you should download the Intel SSD Toolkit (or Toolbox).

Do not forget to install 'Intel Rapid Storage Technology' Intel RST thing.. it really affects performance a lot.
And Intel management thing is unnecessary, related with distance support.

Thanks. I looked Intel Rapid Storage Technology up:

Intel® Rapid Storage Technology — Product overview

I'm not running RAID or moving my laptop much. ACHI was somehow enabled when I installed my SSD, confirmed via:

How to Enable/Check TRIM/AHCI in Windows 7 - The Corsair Support Forums

I'm also guessing that the Intel SSD Toolkit would also have enabled it.

I don't know which folder that would be from SWSetup (although it was probably installed via one of the Intel folders).

Says the guy who owns a MacBook Pro.

For their price, there are few notebooks that can touch the specs of the dv6 and dv7. In very quick cursory glance, there are only two systems that come close in both areas. One is the Lenovo IdeaPad Y560p. I had a Y460p, and the build quality was terrible. It also had several issues relating to the audio. The other is the Acer Aspire AS5750G-9639. The Acer has less RAM and a smaller, slower hard drive. I'm not sure if Acer's support has improved over the years, but it's typically been just as lousy, if not more so, than HP.

The only other systems that would be in the ballpark, specifications wise, are the Sager NP5160-5170, Dell XPS 15-17, and the MacBook Pro. While each system has some distinct advantages over the HP (namely in terms of screen resolution/quality), each costs ~$100-$200 all the way up to orders of magnitude more money.

LOL @ so much win. I agree. The main reason we chose this (and decided that the Customer Service was a bearable burden) was because we could purchase so much power at such a low cost. If not, I'm pretty sure no one would have bought from HP.

I've read a lot about Acer on ZDNET...though some of their computers are powerful, I stay away from them based on what I have read about quality and service. Does not appear to be good news for Acer.

Why aren't there any reviews for dv6t quad edition on the internet? Also not a single gameplay video of 6770M on youtube. And I think a lot of people might have got their dv6tqe by now!

Also no game benchmarks for 6770M on notebookcheck.net (I know there is another thread which has some game benchmarks).

    Thanks for the rep guys.

So here's something weird about the Catalyst Control Center (CCC) unless you are logged in as an admin, GPU switching and the CCC do not work! Right out of the box anyhow. And you will continue to get CCC failure messages.

Does anyone have a step-by-step on how or if you can make an exception for this app?

Just an update. Still no luck getting the white light around the touchpad on. Have not taken the laptop apart, and prolly won't. Now to decide whether the touch pad light not working is worth sending this back.
