Steel Grey +$25 ... for [dv6t] dark brown haters
-
-
At this point, I can return the Envy, get the dv7t QE with FULL HD and the 2gb GPU, AND a blu-ray writer, for $50 LESS than what I paid for the Envy.
But I would lose about 400gb of HDD space, an extra 9 cell battery, and the backlit keyboard.
What are your opinions, friends ? -
I am wondering the same which is better Envy 17 or DV7t QE?
-
Well as I understand it the coupon code for 30% discount is no longer working so you will take a hit there. Anyone know of a code that works currently?

I am having an issue with my AMD graphics card? This has happened several times now. All of the screens go blank and begin to flicker and then they come back on after a few seconds and I get the following message... " The AMD Video card stopped working and has recovered." Any of you ever have this issue? I am running 3 external monitors and the notebook display simultaniously as one desktop. Im using the vga connection and 2 usb to vga adapters made by Ultra for the 3 external monitors.

I'm stuck in the middle as well....
A backlit keyboard is HUGE for me....
But a DV6/7 or an Envy....
Tough choice....
Is a 2GB 6770 = 1GB 6850?
I also noticed that the new 1080p screens on the DV6/7 are not BrightView.....they are "anti-glare". That may be a good thing.....or not... -
-
See I told ya they be offering the newer 6770 2GB version within a couple of months
They been posted in the maintenance guide since the dv6 6000 release except the screen.
That was unexpected.
Anyways the part # for the dv6 1080p screen is 654110-001
15.6-in, FHD, LED, AntiGlare display assembly in steel gray finish
The dv7's part # is 656295-001, 656296-001, respectively.
17.3-in, AntiGlare, full high-definition (FHD), light-emitting diode (LED) display assembly
in aluminum finish (includes webcam, two microphones, and wireless antenna transceivers
and cables)

My event viewer showed a display warning code ID 4101 which seems to be a quite common issue with Win 7 and AMD as well as Nvidia graphics cards. No solution is found as I am aware of and MS recommends update of driver to fix. Many said that this did not work for them. I did not yet check for new drivers for this notebook but with all the talk of bad displays it seems that someone said there was one available through Windows update but not from HP? Guess I will look and see what drivers are out there.

Works for me -
I just ordered my dv7 n now they offer a 2gb 6770m smh how much better will that make gaming ?
-
-
Generally pretty much none if using running at 720 resolutions.
I don't think it performs much better on 1080 compared with the 1GB and 2GB of the same model.
But it significantly helps on resolutions higher then 1080. -
Well that's good to know *wipes* forehead .... now if they add a backlit keyboard I would be pissin my pants .....
-
See this PISSES me off. Look at all of us. We all purchased the laptop did our homework and some of us even saw the 2GB 6770M coming. No one saw the 1080p screen coming.
The return/cancellation process is ridiculously frustrating. I ended up canceling (last night...JUST before the 1080p screen came out) and reordering the dv6tqe because I decided to take a larger hit and get the 8GB of memory as opposed to the 6GB. Their ordering system is so asinine that I can't change the memory (highly modular) on my order even though they haven't even built it yet.
Now the 1080p comes out. This just doesn't sit well with me. I can imagine this is going to cause HP a giant headache as some of us realize that we can get a nicer laptop for cheaper before we even get our hands on the one we ordered.

While all these options are nice why not just get an envy ? Envy has the infinity screen , backlit keyboard, more powerful gpu and a slot loading disc drive and in my opinion has a more solid build and design
-
Believe me I am tempted to send this one back and get another pavilion with the 1080 screne or get the envy! Im looking for a coupon code for either one now. The 30% code for the Pavilion no longer works I see.
-
So, let's get back to the discussion about getting credits within 30 days?? if the latest and greatest comes out.
Do we have a case, or is the new screen and 2 GB 6770 card option still without discounts? -
I just called to see if something could be done and gave up after being on hold for 5 minutes when the automated message informed me they were experiencing EXTREMELY high call volumes. I'd like to think its because of all the disgruntled customers like myself over this laptop!
-
However, as far as I know, the HP sales and support are completely useless when it comes to changing any type of custom order. They give you two options:
1. Cancel the order (and hope and pray to God that they actually cancel it)
2. Receive the laptop...get hassled for the RMA...send it back...and wait another week to get your refund.
As far as if you've received the laptop already, I think you can just skip 1. and go to 2...
Its just really a shame. They should have some way of informing you and their staff at least a week in advance of new options or a refresh... -

backlit keyboard on the envy vs. finger print reader on the DV - slight edge to Envy; However, keyboard could likely be upgraded after the fact
GPU comparisons at notebookcheck actually have the 6850m slower than 6770m due to the slower memory used in the Acer 6850m with GDDR3 (Envy would be GDDR5). No doubt the 6850m is a slightly better chip, but the 6770m with 2gb GDDR5 will likely be a better option for most at higher res.
Slot loading bd reader on the Envy versus bd writer on the DV
Savings would be $300 or more over a similarly equipped Envy if the DV7TQE goes into place fully loaded with 30% off. -

2GB is not likely to have any impact on the 6770, even at 1080p.
If you really care just put one in yourself. Be careful and keep the old one and put it back in if you need to return the unit. -
I wouldn't give up the fingerprint reader for backlit keyboard. Logging in is what you need a backlit keyboar for most of the time anyways, unless you don't know how to type without looking. -
-
Great news, 1080p anti glare display is now available for the dv6t qe
-
Just FYI:
The new Dv6tqe has a new product number for the customized laptop:
-Before refresh/update (1080p, 2GB 6770M, and steel color option) XW898AV
-After refresh/update LM720AV
I have no idea what that means, but there it is. -
-
Am I making things up or is HP now offering a 750 7200rpm hd now for 20 bucks??? Was that always an option because if it was I messed up and should have opted for it.
-
-
Yes, the dv6t qe now has 1080p. And it's antiglare!!! YAS.
I thought it was a joke... lol
I know it's not a radiance screen or a high gamut screen. But still!! -
I wonder if it's the same AUO screen as the one custom-installed by some Sager resellers (95% color gamut matte). If so, kudos for whoever is sitting on the fence for this one.

"IF" the quickship Envy 17 non 3D still offers the dual 7200 rpm drives...I will go with that one.
If not, I'll probably go with a DV7.....but I might consider a customer Envy 17 3D....it just depends on the deal I get.
HP's pricing is so screwed up. For me, the ONLY reason I would consider an Envy is for the back-lit keyboard. Something that I have on a freaking DV6 but is no longer offered!
So....right now...DV7 with coupon vs Quickship Envy 17 non 3-D (2070NR) with EPP (10% off).
Both have 2630's
Both have 6GB's RAM
DV7 has 2GB 6770, Envy has 1GB 6850
DV7 has fingerprint reader. Envy has back-lit keyboard
Both have 1080p screens...one is anti-glare, one is BV.
DV7 has 2 year warrenty, Quickship Envy has 1 year (same as a DV6)
Envy has better wifi-card
DV7 has optional blu-ray writer available (I would not order)
Not sure on the HDD's because of the recent changes with the 2070.
I'm really torn....ESPECIALLY because I have that $500 coupon from the chipset recall and I REALLY want a back-lit keyboard.
A quickship Envy 2070 will cost me $1000 plus tax....and will ship in a day. But with dual 5400 RPM HDD's...it is kind of a waste.
A new DV7 a 2GB 6750, a 1080p screen, and a single 7200 RPM HDD will cost about the same, and take weeks to get here....but it still won't have that darn keyboard. -
And it only seems to be on the DV6... It was doing odd things like defaulting to 8MB RAM...then discounting the 3 other options by $60.
Wow....
Well....the DV6 is back on the list...
DV6
DV7
Envy 2070NR (quickship non 3-D)
Envy 17 3D
The funny thing is that ALL of them share the same "engine" (i7 and 6GB RAM)... -
New better computers come out all the time, just enjoy what you have now, and save the headache/money until the Ivy Bridge refresh of the HP Pavillion.
-
Any idea how the 15.6" 1080p screen compares to the XPS15's 1080p B+RGLED one?

I ordered a dv7t Quad about a week ago. Decided to cancel it because I realized I didn't get a few upgrades I wanted. Still in the process of that, supposedly it is being redirected and they will refund card. But I'm glad I did because of the updated specs HP just put in.
Now I just ordered a dv6t quad and it has almost everything I wanted except back-lit keyboard. Haven't received an order confirmation e-mail yet, which is a little disconcerting, but we'll see. With the discount code, I don't think this deal can be beat. Should be a nice little upgrade to my 5 year old Thinkpad that's literally falling apart.

I'm looking to get the dv7tqe (w/ 6770m) for someone and there's something I'm not sure I understand about switchable graphics.
Let me see if I got this right:
1) We use software to manually switch gpu.... except,
2) gpu's switch automatically depending on the powerset settings (like on battery).
3) Gpu's don't switch depending on load or application (like Optimus).
4) We can't use the latest Catalyst drivers (currently 11.5) on this intel chipset & 6770 combo, so we have to use HP's drivers.
Do I understand this correctly? -
guys.. do you have 1333mhz memory or 1066 mhz?
also should I buy their 4gb (2 dimm) option or the 6gb (2gb + 4gb)?
I just did live chat and I was told that they have 16gb memory sticks available >.< lol. -
Pretty much
And the latest HP driver for your model is 11.4, which at the moment only available off the Windows Updates or can be downloaded manually off Windows Update Catalog. -
The HP (dv6) drivers/software can also be downloaded here: Software & Driver Downloads HP Pavilion dv6t-6000 CTO Quad Edition Entertainment Notebook PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English)
It has separate drivers for the ATI and Intel graphics. -
-
Since it had been a week, they kept telling me it might not go through and I might have to RMA it when I receive it (and have 2 laptops on my CC). A bit frustrating.
