so should I get the 8gb (2x4 option)?
My build comes out to $1233 after the 30% off code (this price includes tax and warranty!!)
i7 2720
2gb 6770m graphics
8gb ddr3 ram (i hope this is dual channel 2x4gb @ at 1333mhz like you said)
1366x768 monitor
750gb 7200rpm hard drive
-
Thanks Falco.
I really hope they get their act together and implement the switchable graphics correctly. By correctly, I mean:
1)if not under load, then use integrated, if there's demand, then power up the dedicated card automatically.
2)Have a "smart" threshold as to when to switch (for the Average Joe)
3)Have user ability to set their own "smart" threshold.
4)Be able to manually switch (for us enthusiasts)
5)Be able to watch a full bluRay on battery (like on airplane)
6)Be able to totally power down the dedicated gpu and it's noisy fan (automatically & manually)
7)Have no impact on performance due to this switching (I read that there's a performance hit by even having this switch there).
At least Ivy Bridge and Intel's upcoming solution looks promising. -
but go for the 1920x1080 AntiGlare display they now started offering. Its a lot nicer than 1366x768 since it gives you more screen space to work with by making things a bit smaller. It'll make much more of a difference than, say, the RAM upgrade or the CPU upgrade. -

Glad that the 1080p screen is now available for the dv6! That was one glaring omission. I was on the fence for that one and didn't see it coming. But I'm thankful to myself for waiting a couple of months. Being an early adopter is too risky.
-
^^ This is what I thought...then the next day they released the 1080p. Thankfully I got it canceled (within 24hrs it was easy) and re-ordered with the 1080p. I got to say, though, if I didn't use the laptop as much mobile...I'd be tempted to use the $150 extra to just buy an external monitor to use it on at the desk...

Can someone tell me their battery life on Quad core + integrated graphics? Please tell me what battery you have. Even an estimate would be helpful.
I can't seem to find info on SB quad core battery life.... -

I've made my peace with the idea that i'm going to have a 1GB 6670M and not the 1080P screen.
The screen can always be upgaded later and even ignoring that fact I was happy with this setup just yesterday I was thinking to myself
"This is a steal for what i'm paying and it's gonna be awesome playing my favorite games on it" '
Just because it now has some more possible options doesn't make the current system any less worth it. I'm still happy to have My Pre-5/18 DV7 Quad coming. Can't wait to get it. -
Hi all, first post. Ordered a dv6tqe and after nightmares of delay got it. First power on, nothing. the fan bursted aroar and then slowed down, nothing on screen, caps lock key periodically flashing. Basically got a dead on arrival laptop ...
pretty disappointing. anyone else have a similar issue? went through ram issues and hard drive issues and am sending the laptop back, i want this working before i go back to uni for my summer classes -
I really wish the DV7TQE 30% coupon was still active! I tried calling HP, but no dice. I'd really like the extra internal hdd slot, so I can go with an SSD and a data drive. The DV6TQE is tempting, and if it had a 2nd hdd slot, I wouldn't hesitate, but for now I'll wait it out.

I am thinking of returning my dv6 and reordering with 2gb 5770 and 1080p. But i got mine for $800 out the door and the new one i could get for about $1000 out the door. Will the upgraded video ram improve performance at all? I am ok with the screen i have now but i would like 1080p. Will i be able to put a new screen in later without to much trouble?
-
YEAH!! Sending my dv6t back after 15 days. Ordered the same laptop with 750gb instead of the 640gb drive, 1080p screen and 2gb video card, all for $140 more, including them throwing in free 2day shipping!!!! I was so on the fence about returning it, but other laptops were like $500+ more for similar specs with a 1080 screen. They just made a great laptop awesome!!

-
Hey can anyone talk to HP to find out what 1089p screen are they using?? I was told that they are using a 95% gamut display, can anyone confirm PR deny that?
-
Couldn't resist buying. The 1080p screen sold me.

Well it's a $150 upgrade, so I hope it's good. Think about what an awesome external monitor you can get for that much $$. Would be surprised if it was 95% gamut though.
-
-
I noticed all the upgrades... got me thinking again. Especially the free blu ray and stuff. Do they credit your account if you complain about the different free upgrade or is there no point to me talking to CS? I wouldn't mind some money back
-
so can we expect the 1080 screen to be available for purchase in a bit? will it be a mission to actually change the screen out? finally will it even be worth staying with the 1gb of video memory since if we change the screen performance is going to go down with only 1 GB of Video memory.
-
with the following specs:
i7 2720 QM
8gb ddr3 (2 dimm)
2gb hd 6770m
if i get the 1080p LCD upgrade.. will it affect game performance at all? I'm going to be raiding 25 man in world of warcraft and I would like to play on ultra @ 60 fps. -
They won't give you a discount...
As for the 2GB card, it's worth the extra $35 (after coupon) for future-proofing...but only in concept. You won't actually see any difference in performance even with the 1080p screen. -
-
ordered mine today, confirmation email came 15 minutes later. According to HP i should get an email with my order update by 10 pm tomorrow.
Hopefully the june 3rd build date is just a ball park estimate, realistically I would like for it arrive around that time, I have never dealt with HP before though so that may be unrealistic. -
Does anybody know how much better the 2gb 6770m is compared to the 1gb one? I'm not sure if I should call HP and ask them to switch my 1gb to a 2gb for another $50.
-
Plus, don't sacrifice resolution for performance anyway. It's not a good idea to do so because a performance only affects a few things, whereas resolution affects basically everything you do with the laptop since you can fit so much more on a high res screen. -
Just ordered a dv6t...thought it was a quad edition, however my receipt lists it as a select edition. So I went and priced a qe with the same specs...turns out it was the exact same price. So as far as I can tell...the quad edition and select edition are pretty much the same since everything matches up with the configuration (the 2630 processor is listed as an option for the qe but not the se...but my order shows the 2630). Can someone verify I got my order right?

I might be talking apples and oranges. But why would you need 2gb of gpu memory. iMac used the same 6770m gpu with 512mb in their older models with a 2560x1440 native res in a 27" LCD. iMac 27-inch

30% Coupon HP dv7 Quad Edition Laptop deal | HP dv7t review and coupons - LogicBUY
I am going to return my DV7t Quad for the new 1080p screen. The washed out colors and clarity of this screen are just too much. My 4+ year old Dell XPS M1710 1080p screen is much better. -
Can someone tell me if the dv7tQE bios supports restarting the computer without asking for the password again? For example, on Dells, if you use a bios password (not in Windows), and then do a "reboot", it won't ask for the password again. Only asks when cold starting. I find this very very helpful, especially if I'm remotely doing updates and require a reboot.
Thanks in advance. -
Every time I see your name I want to go to the OBX!!! Anyway I want to do the same but the configuration I want would tally over $1800 without the coupon and I just am not going there. I want to upgrade the screne but not at that price. I just tried the code and it rejected it. I have till the 29th for it to happen within the 21 day return. Also says that the coupon expires TODAY! Maybe there will be another. -
-
You need a desktop for that.
I do 25 raids and im limited to High + filters @ 35fps in raid. -
Is the dv6t quad edition available in Canada? If not, when will it be?
Thanks! -

I've had my dv6tqe for 3 days and just sent it back. Re-ordered with the 2720(had the 2630), 1920x1080 and 2GB 6770M and used the 30% off coupon and it only cost me $100 more
Specs in sig. Estimated build date is June 6th. Last time it took 14 days to build, ship, and deliver. One more time plz!!! -
Spoke with my case manager yesterday...told her about the Quick Ship Envy 17 (2070NR) showing dual 5400rpm drives on the web page (when it was 7200rpms last week), while the PDF file still shows 7200 rpm dual HDD's.
Went out there today...and the webpage has been corrected back to dual 7200 rpm HDD's.
So.....considering I have a $500 off coupon (assuming it is OK'd).
Envy 17 2070NR - $999.99 + tax after coupon
Pretty Loaded DV6 - $940.99 + tax after coupon
Pretty Loaded DV7 - $1020.99 + tax after coupon
All of them have 2630 CPU's, 6GB of RAM. a blu-ray player and 1080p screens. But the Envy still rocks the "single button touch pad" that sucked so much.
That is what I have to choose from.
I paid roughly $1025 + tax for my current DV6 (with touchscreen, AND a back-lit keyboard....which was a $25 option a few months ago).....so the overall price range is fine.
I'm leaning towards the Envy....only because of the back-lit keyboard.
But the new DV6/7's look real nice.
Why oh why did HP remove the back-lit keyboard from the DV6? Add a $25 back-lit keyboard to the DV6/7, and you have the hottest computer on the market. -

All for 800 bucks would I be a fool to cancel it? I received these discounts: $400.00 Coupon
$150.00 Laptop instant rebate
and a 50 credit back to my account and if I were to reorder w/ the new options (1080p screen and 2gb 6770m GPU) it would be about 1100.00 am I better off just keeping my dv7t that's on the way? I am only going to be using it for school and some gaming. Thoughts? -

150 - instant rebate (supervisor had to approve)
50 - delay -
anyone seen these in canada yet? i only saw a dv6 with 6770m with a amd phenom ii 960 not with sandybridge at bestbuy.
-
Does anyone know if its possible to configure the DV7 with the steel gray color? It says on the description page that its an option, but not possible while configuring.
-
How did you get the $150 put on? -
That is the thing....it WAS $25 to add a back-lit keyboard to my DV6 that I ordered 4 months ago. (The one in my sig).
Being that the new DV6/7's use "almost" the exact same keyboard as the Envy...this should have been a no brainer by HP.
But I guess if they offer Coolsense, 1080p screens, beats audio, and back-lit keyboards on the new DV6/7's.....there would be no reason to buy an Envy unless you wanted 3D or something. -

Now I just need to hit up the egg for an SSD, and I'll be in business. Shame I didn't jump on one of their deals the other day. Anyone have recommendations for a reasonably priced 120/128GB SSD that plays nice with the DV7TQE? -
Newegg.com - Crucial RealSSD C300 CTFDDAC128MAG-1G1 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
if you wait/look around, you can find it for $200-220, and imo its worth every penny.
