Does anyone know when the 30% off coupon ends? Is it 5/31? I put in the coupon at HP's website but I couldn't find where it said the expiration date.

If the 30% coupon ends after 5/22 then I'll instantly jump on this combo deal.

I just tried it again, and opened and closed chats until I go the exact same one that samrock67 spoke to. They ended up giving me the $100 credit as well, overriding what the other person told me. Awesome!

    Thanks samrock67!

I'm not even going to bother about canceling and reordering to get the 1080p screen now, lol.

There are "always" 30% coupons. Even if this one ends, in about a week a new one will appear.

I have a dv6tqe on the way and have a question about the power supply. It comes with a 120w power adapter. I was interested in the slim travel power adapter, but it's only 65w. I'm confused because on the specs page, it states that the dv6t uses a 90w adapter for Intel graphics or a 120w adapter for Radeon graphics. Why do they even list it as an option to purchase when you customize a computer if it's not compatible?

I looked at the compatability chart, and it says that the dv6t can use the standard 120w adapter, or the two 90w specialty adapters....but not the 90w slim adapter. Can anyone explain? And, is there any sort of aftermarket power adapter that is a smaller, travel-friendly size? Thanks.

I didn't have any trouble running a quad on my G72's 65W power supply, but when I happened to run a WEI on the 65W, my CPU score was down (maybe the CPU won't go into turbo mode on 65W?) Ran WEI again on the 125W and the CPU score went back up where it belongs.

So to those who are reordering, is everyone still going with the dark umber color or the new option for steel gray? Does anyone know what steel gray looks like? Right now, HP's website doesn't have a picture for it.

Wasn't steel gray the original color of the dv6tqe in January, before the Sandy Bridge recalls? If so, then it's essentially a steeliness color, but depending on the lighting it had a slight pinkish tint to it. I'm not sure how noticeable the tint was, though.

I am likely going to return and reorder, and when I do, I will stick with the umber. I think it is unique and classy - a good change from the grey/silver/black standards. I rather like it and though it does show some fingerprints, I have not had a problem with it. Of course, I would not eat potato chips or other greasy foods then use the computer anyway! Just sayin'!

Called HP and got another credit this time of $75 (first credit was a change from $300 off to 30%) now my laptop has cost a total of $1050 after tax. I think i'm fine without the new screen ^ ^. They are most definitely giving credits though if you say the words "I'm going to return" after "new screen".

Well I got an RMA submitted for my DV7t Quads (yes 2 of them) with the 1600x res screen.

Ordered the same thing except with 1080P screen and 2GB graphics card.

Original laptops cost me $1040 a piece with the 4 year onsite after $150 off for the free 8GB ram upgrade offerings and $310 off for the long delays.

The new ones cost me $1335 a piece with a 3 year onsite.

Looking @ my 4+ year old 17.3 "True Life" 1080P screen on my Dell XPS I just couldn't take the washed out colors of the 1600x res screen on the DV7.

I had a live chat conversation with an HP sales rep regarding the DV6T Quad Edition coupon (NB6171) and the free Xbox promotion. I thought this might help a few people out there waiting for the Xbox promotion. Here is the conversation:

    10:27:11 PM Kevin
Initial Question/Comment: I have read that starting May 22, Microsoft will start a promotion where if a student buys a PC system priced over $699 they will recieve a free Xbox 360. Is HP participating in this promotion? If you are, am I allowed to use a coupon code ( specifically the 30% off for the DV6t Quad edition laptop) and still be eligible for the free Xbox 360? Thank you.

Welcome to HP Home & Home Office Store Chat. My name is Joan. How are you doing today?

    10:27:52 PM Kevin
Im doing good. How are you?

    10:30:11 PM Joan D.
That's great to know and I'm doing fine. Thank you for asking.

    10:32:11 PM Joan D.
I understand that you want to check the promotion of Microsoft will have free xbox. Is that correct?

    10:32:48 PM Joan D.
We have that promotion however it was scheduled on the 26th of May.

    10:33:30 PM Joan D.
Is there anything else I can assist you with today?

    10:33:46 PM Kevin
Okay thank you. Do you know if the coupon for 30% off the DV6T Quad edition laptop will still be active during that time?

    10:34:22 PM Joan D.
    What is the coupon code?

    10:34:53 PM Kevin
    NB6171

    10:36:26 PM Joan D.
The coupon code that you had provide will expire on May 22, 2011.

    10:37:33 PM Kevin
Okay Thank you. I was asking this so I could decide if I wanted to wait for the free Xbox promotion or buy the laptop before the coupon expires.

    10:38:16 PM Joan D.
    You are welcome.

    10:38:20 PM Kevin
Do you know of any future coupons that will be available for the DV6T Quad Edition while the free Xbox promotion is still active?

    10:38:21 PM Joan D.
Is there anything else I can assist you with today?

    10:40:01 PM Joan D.
Why don't purchase the computer now and take advantage the 30% discount compare to Xbox which is only $199.00

    10:42:20 PM Kevin
If there are no other coupons during the free Xbox promotion I will most likey end up doing that. Are you sure that you don't know of any future coupons during the free Xbox promotion?

    10:43:34 PM Kevin
I will be buying this laptop sooner or later. I just want to recieve the full benefit of the promotion and any coupons in the future.

    10:43:36 PM Joan D.
As of this moment we don't have yet any updates with the coupon in the future.

    10:44:11 PM Joan D.
However, that is already the best deal since it is 30%.

    10:45:34 PM Kevin
That is true. I will need to wait a few more days to purchase the laptop though.

    10:45:41 PM Joan D.
We don't always offer promotion which is 30%, that's why I suggest that you can take advantage with the deal now.

    10:46:52 PM Kevin
That is all I needed. You have been a big help, thank you! I'm sure I will take advantage of this deal before it expires.

This I disagree with. We're moving into "back-to-school" season which is notorious for having the highest prices of the year. They give you big "discounts", and sometimes it is cheaper. However, the most expensive month of the year to buy a laptop is July...

April saw a 33% discount near the middle of the month. May sees a 30% discount. The way I see it, they only need coupons to move stock. If they're moving stock rapidly during the back-to-school season, I'm a bit skeptical that they'll sweeten the deal even more.

I really wonder...I'm debating trying to find Irene on the chat to give me the $100 or just wait until 5/22 when the promo begins. Problem is, I have ZERO leverage on the "cancel" threat if there isn't a 30% off coupon anymore.

One thing I'm pretty sure on, the HP reps have NO IDEA what the company will do day to day. If they do know, they sure don't let on.

Yea I was unable to find irene on the chat, however I tricked a rep into giving me 50 by sayingI got disconnected with the rep before who was going to give me 100 lol, In the question box when connecting I put cancelling so they came on saying sorry and all then. I then proceeded to tell them i was cancelling because I spoke to a dell rep on the phone who was going to give me abetter deal on a similarly specced notebook and I got them to budge for 50, which I am very happy with.

The good thing is that the xbox deal goes on til early september. so say I get my laptop faster than expected, like june 3rd or something, I then have 21 days to return. If they offer another 30 percent of deal then I willl RMA and get a refund and then reorder and get me that damn 360, I dont see why they wouldnt combine 30 percent with the 360 because because the 360 is coming from microsoft if I am understanding correctly and that wont be anything out of HPs pocket.

Bull. They have no idea about what this promotion entails. Ive spoken and chatted with different reps on this and the ones who knew what they were talking about were just speculating. We really don't know until the promotion is active. One more forthcoming rep said they hadn't heard a thing from their managers about this.

During the MIDDLE of the 30% promotion the rep tried to tell me that I wasn't eligible for it any more, and then when I challenged that, said that the promotion just wasn't going on anymore. Their job is to try to get you to buy and if you purchased not canceling.

I looked at a log of this spring's SB dv6 promotions and they went in cycles. The 33% has 1350 uses and the 30% only 350. April is a notoriously slow month for computer sales leading up to back to school season. Mind you they will have "awesome" promotions, they just won't really compete with spring prices.

I could be wrong, but I think the 30% off will be dead and stay dead for the summer starting 5/23 as retailers enter back to school season.

It took me about an hour or so on the phone because I was trying to get the price down, on the new laptops.

They came up with like $1500 a piece on the phone and would NOT honor the coupon, saying it was online only.

Even ordering the laptop online under EPP was more expensive.

I ended up ordering online with the 30% coupon and 3 year onsite (because 4 year was $200 more!). So I essentially wasted an extra 45min or so on the phone trying to order from the rep.

I would say it only took about 20 minutes to on the phone to get the RMA fully setup.

    Aloha,

I have a dv6tqe on order. I tried to order another power adapter that comes with the laptop, but the sales girl said it was not in stock.

    ***Question to dv6tqe owners.***

Can you please tell me the wattage and part number of the power supply that originally shippped with the laptop?

    Thanks in advance.

Whoa, (dv6tqe) "It comes with a 120w power adapter". It's like carrying around a docking station power adapter, I'll be the laughing stock of the class. Can someone please correct me? Maybe it's not as big. Please let me know...I have mine in the build process in China, ordered 19 May.

Anybody with a dv6tqe got this issue I'm having? Video playback on Radeon 6770 is slightly choppy, but to the point that it becomes uncomfortable to watch. If I switch to the intel graphics it plays smoothly. I'm using K-Lite video codec and the problem happens both on xvid avi and 720p x264 mkv.

After reading recent posts about the 120w power adapter, I was curious about what these bricks really weigh. So I checked the one that came with my new dv7.

FWIW, it weighs 1 lb, 10.3 ounces.

Also: 6 cell battery is approx 11 ounces; 9 cell is approx 17 ounces

After the extra $100 off they gave me to NOT cancel due to the upcoming promotion, I did some quick math and just figured out that I paid less for the 2720, 2GB 6770M, 1920x0180 that i just re-ordered than i did for the 2630, 1GB 6770M, 1366x768. Those upgrades cost $375 total. Talk about beating the system :)

Quick question would it be a better decision to opt for the 1600x900 screen if I'm using this laptop for gaming and school ? Framerates in particular.... I'm not going to be programming or doing any kind.of video editing n etc

Well you can just play a game at a lower resolution. Doesn't have to be 1080, but you have the option to play at 1080 if you want, if you get the 1080 screen. So no reason to get the crappy 900 screen. Hopefully the 1080 screen will also be an improvement in the color/black level/viewing angle over the previous screen.

THAT is the big hope. Though I've gotten my screen to be tolerable via settings and calibration if there is no improvement in the above mentioned then the cost of the upgrade is not worth it IMO.

hmmmm decisions decisions I'm just going to go to bestbuy and compare 1080p vs 900p. and why get a 1080p screen just to drop its resolution when playing games. Thats primarily what I'm going to do with it besides schoolwork and just basic browsing. I just dont want to buy something thats going to be obsolete unless I could run crysis on the 1080p on high settings then its a go if not why bother spending 150.00..... I dont wanna get all caught up in getting the latest technology and wasting money if I"m not going to use it lol.

Aright, take it easy pal. I WAS an owner yesterday. No need to get all high and mighty "take it to the order status thread" every time I post.

    Yes.

(explanation: It comes with both caddies, but not with both cables. The only way HP sells the secondary drive cable is with the caddy kit)

I say this time and time again, don't sacrifice your resolution solely for the sake of playing games. 1920x1080 is great even for basic tasks like web browsing.

Plus of the problem using non native resolution while gaming is horrible unless you enjoy blurry gameplay.

$150 is a common premium for a 1080p laptop display. Also, its matte option which is a + against most OEM that also provide the 1080p option.

I think the gain in screen realestate outside of gaming outweighs the blur during gameplay. The blur isn't that bad, I deal with it. SC2 for example looks great running in 1600x900 on a 1920x1080 display. It's not worth sacrificing something that truly benefits productivity just to make the outline of a tree a bit more defined. Plus, the 6770M is a lot more powerful than midrange GPUs in other laptops that offer 1080p, and with GDDR5 memory it doesn't have the same memory bandwidth issues that GDDR3 GPUs have with pushing 1080p.

plus, you always have the option of running it in lower resolutioned windowed mode if you use window tools or various other programs to keep you mouse contained within a window (not to mention many games already support windowed mode in lower resolutions officially).

If its a desktop replacement PC (like the dv7t Quad Edition), I can see the logic for just buying a 22" FHD LCD external monitor. That makes more sense. However, if you're buying a laptop for portability, I think you can't order the 768p if there's a 1080p option.

Maybe that's my own personal opinion. I'm waiting to hear back from the owners of the new 1080p dv6tqe's on their experience.

The problem with a 1920x1080 display in a 15.6" form factor is that things are SMALL. Items ARE very clear ... JUST SMALL... and scaling very seldom doesn't have it consequences with text anyway.... Desktop ICONs and such aren't an issue, but if you are using the computer for other than entertainment purposes, it can be. But alas, we have a whole culture that has been convinced to believe viewing a movie on a 3.5" device IS acceptable... and mp3's are perfectly good.

I myself have huge issues with the brick being so huge for purposes of travel. I think that the 65W will be just fine for travelling and offline charging. Check out the specs of the power adapter for the i5 Sandy on the HD3000. I'll probably get this just for when I'm travelling.

As a traveller, Battery life is king, I don't need the native screen to be that great. Besides, most hotels have huge LCDs to HDMI to anyhow and it is a small enough cable to bring along, this includes presentations on projectors or screens.

I'm just happy that the laptops have become just as powerful as the desktops. I used to have both for the sake of a dedicated number crunching machine for say, video, now this does it all.

But seriously, the power supply brick needs to go, when travelling.
