I've had my dv6t for a while now. Got the AMD Q64, 3GB RAM, 320G HD, and the bare minimums. Exactly what I need, except I thought it came with the 1394 port, but it didn't unless I wanted to spend $200 on a video upgrade. I figure good 1394 PCMCIA cards are only about $40, so I'm not going that route.

I'm running Win7, which is so much better than WinV, but I wish I could load XP. Seems I can't even get to the SATA problem, as I get the blue screen when Windows Setup first starts. Anybody know a solution?

Anyway, I got the white one. The 500G upgrade was $150, but I can get a 500G for $89, so it didn't make sense to me to get anything bigger than the 320G free upgrade.

So is there a list of what bloatware/freeware to remove when you first get your dv6t?

I wanna make sure I get it setup right from the beginning

What I would do is go to the HP website, using MSIE, use the automatic recognition feature so you can get the right dv6t, then download all drivers and software. Make your recovery discs so you can recover your computer because even if you keep the partition, auto recovery may not work if you don't have the discs. Now, using WinVista or Win7, delete the Vista partition, then start all over. Once it's up and running, install all those drivers and software. You should be good at that point.

So I just got my dv6t and loving it so far but the one problem that I'm having with it is that I am losing hard drive space daily like at least 1gb to 3gb and I'm not even installing anything.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    - FREE Upgrade to 3GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm) from 2GB DDR2 System Memory (1 Dimm)
    - FREE Upgrade to 320GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection

Hey, I'm taking a flight with an airline that has Internet on board. I was wondering how long you guys really got with this laptop with the standard battery? Any options I should play with to get more time besides the screen lighting?

thank you, the one thing i dont get is that when installing other software on this new computer of mine, the fingerprint reader and touch pad went haywire and stopped working a couple of times and i had to go through the whole process of undoing them and redoing the hardware for both of them to get them working again. everything is perfectly fine now, but that surprises me that it happened, and with 2 days of having the computer.

I think the heat is barley anything on the laptop except when it is plugged in. when it is plugged in, it is just a tad sweaty if its on yoru legs or kinda warm on any other surface. Not really that hot.

Recently i noticed on my DV6T that although i can adjust the volume using the little touch slider on the top of the keyboard it doesn't show the volume level on screen like it used to. Originally when i purchased the computer it would show a little volume tab once i had started adjusting the sound. Anyone know how I can fix this back to the way it was?

I have a dv6t with the ATI 4650....I can say, it runs hot but not NEARLY as hot as the dv6z, which has an AMD processor in it.

Also, If you are going to get the 4650, I HIGHLY recommend you get the 12 cell battery. I got an IDENTICAL laptop (both dv6t) as my buddy, and his comp gets way hotter with the 6 cell battery. The reason is, the 12 cell is bigger, and the laptop has more room to breath underneath since the backside sits up on the battery.

    enjoy!

In Canada, prices are a bit different but the HDX 16 and dv6 is comparable. However, graphics cards options are different.

The HDX 16 has the Nvidia card and the dv6 has the ATI Radeon 4650 card. If you are comparing these two (other specs are comparable), which one would you choose? I think the HDX 16 is slightly more money.

Total newbie to these forums - just purchased 2 DV6-1230us laptops, got a deal with BING 25% that I could not pass up ($422), one to upgrade my wife's older Compaq dual-core laptop, one for myself (my first personal laptop - decided to replace my desktop with a laptop). I put XP on that laptop to replace vista and make it perform better. It had SATA drives so I slipstreamed drivers onto XP Pro SP2 install CD.

Question (or point me to a thread) - Has anyone put XP onto a DV6 with similar configuration? This is C2D 6500 based system with 320GB SATA.

Tried using my slipstreamed boot CD I used for the Compaq, but no luck.

I ended up getting the 1150ei model (South Africa)
Only recommendation i would have is to get one with Radeon 4650 1GB GPU opposed to Radeon 4530 as with games like Crysis it plays it but i'm sure the 4650 would do a better job...
Safer option for it not being a toaster to stick to the Intel processor options the guys with the AMD's seem to be getting pretty warm.
Had mine for 2 weeks and i'd buy another one no problem

Anyone do XP? Tried the dv5t and dv7 XP install threads but it seems intel no longer lets you download the matrix storage drivers without running an actual install...

If anyone is interested, dv6t-1230us maintenance and service guide is here:

Successful XP install! Have not tried everything, but video, wireless network, audio and volume control all working for now... still to test are wired network, modem (maybe), eSata (if I had a device), remote control, hdmi (not too concerned for now, no hdmi device to plug into).

Have 2 partitions, and Windows 7 is on the other partition which was upgraded from a "clean install" of Vista per another thread on this forum. I need to get my dual-boot back now.

    hi all,,

i planned to buy an HP laptop, but i am pretty confused between

HP dv6-1154 TX and HP dv7-2170US,

while dv6 is lighter, dv7 has extra Hard drive bay...

    Please suggest..

If you plan on packing it around much, smaller is better. Do you really need another drive bay? These have eSata ports (the dv6t for sure) - just get an eSata / USB external drive if you need more space. If it is a desktop replacement that won't move much further than your house on a regular basis, then maybe the 17" is better for you.

It all depends on what you need.

Following the dv5t XP install thread, it is all up and running now, as much as I have tested it. Removed the Win7 partition and expanded XP to get all my space back. Dual-boot menu still comes up though. I think I am good to go...

I'm torn between the Dv5t and 6t....I actually wanted the 7t but didn't like the Espresso bubble graphics and poor OEM specs for the Ebay units. Plus on ebay, decently setup units were closer to $1k still and some were refurb'd.

There are some decent deals on Dv6ts still around and are closer in size to my 4 year old zv6130us which has been great except for the hinge crack that just happened.

The Dv6t looks like a good compromise on size and performance like the Dv5t...

i know its very silly to ask, (after the previous question i asked) but do dv6 series have secondary Hard drive bay? If so, please give me its link mentioning its presence.

    thanks

I have a DV6T-1230US purchased last month, no extra drive bays. eSata ports, which my DV6 and I believe the DV7 have, allows for fastest possible external drives though with current technology - should be just as fast or faster than internal if the eSata drive has the right specs. Plus you can buy 2.5" enclosures that have eSata and are powered by a USB port so no heavy clunky power brick required.

Yea the quad core looks sweet, I just don't game all that often. Also, I couldn't justify the price difference between the DV6T and the Quad DV6T (about $250+)

Is anybody else having trouble with packet loss on the wireless adapter? It is totally random for me when the packet loss is happening. It also seems to improve whenever I force it to use 802.11g.

Does anyone have the PLL for the DV6T? People with the 4650 GPU are you able to overclock it at all?

I am subscribed, but the thread is not very active... I converted my DV6T over to Windows XP, most everything satisfactory except eSata seems not to be working, with a Fantom 1GB drive.

Any of you guys successfully completed a clean install of Windows 7? Have any problems finding the drivers for the graphics card etc..?

Hi everyone...I just came into a stackable $200 coupon and could get what looks like an amazing deal on a dv6t:

The only thing I HATE about this laptop are the designs on the case...but an identically configured Studio 1555, even with a coupon code, is over $1000 after tax. I couldn't justify an extra $300 just because the Studio 1555 has better looking plastic.

Would love to hear more feedback from dv6t owners on how you like it
