Hi is any one having over heating issues so far with this laptop? I down loaded Everest, but it was only giving me CPU and HDD temps. I was curious about the GPU temp. I'm debating if I need a cooling pad or not. So far only the fan exhaust has been getting warm and when playing Eve online the CPU temp was around 60 C.

60c while gaming? What's the room temperature? Use cpu-z/hwmonitor, 60 is way too low for core i7. mine gets as high as 82c while playing gears of war for example, room temp is about 25. I stopped playing with it till I get a good cooler. Wish there was a way to force fans to max speed, I can't hear them at all, they just work in very slow.

EDIT: I switched back from "high performance" power plan to "hp recommended" one and max temp during heavy load is around 65c, I don't know what hp recommended does but it's a lot safer than high performance, I guess performance should be lower but I haven't noticed it yet.

    Thanks !

So it's called dv6-2060ea in Europe.

The price is incredibly expensive compared to the US one... 999USD would be 670EUR or around 600GBP, but they still sell it 949GBP.

    Not very fair :(

hey thread, i have known about this group for a while now, i was looking at all your postings for about 2 weeks straight while i purchased my notebook to make sure it seemed good. i will have to admit, my screen doesnt seem too high quality but its not bothersome and hardly noticable when the brightness is lowered.

i do have a couple questions, since this is my first POWERHOUSE laptop, i would like to make a couple things clear, first of all. where in the bluest is the intake vent for the cooling system? which hole is it?

also, i just ran a very strange and impractical experiment, i turned my laptop on, and it was running at around 46c, so i opened up my freezer, and let the bottom of the laptop face it, i left it like that for about 30 seconds, then i had cpu and gpu temps of less than 90c, which i was amazed, it was stable at that temp for about 10-15 mins with no change while i had this thing on my lap.

also, my screen will ocassionally flicker and ill get an HP message saying how i just had a problem wiht my graphic card and its regulating itself.. SHOULD I BE WORRIED?!?!?!?!??!!??!?!

other then that, everything on this laptop works great, i just have that heating issue, also, im taking this laptop over to the alps in a couple of weeks, and wanted to know if the altitude would damage the laptop at all.

    thank you very much

A normal hdd drive can have problems with high altitude, see if you can find the spec for yours, and ssd on the other hand is virtual immune.

    EDIT : the Toshiba 500g in my DV6 = "Altitude - Operating -300 to 3,000 m"

EDIT : Wiki - The highest mountain in the Alps is Mont Blanc, at 4,808 metres

I have also had the screen flicker twice and had the graphics card message. I tried to look up information about it online and found various things. Some said it was a bad omen, others said to reinstall the OS, but some said that its fine and to not worry. So I have no idea if its a bad thing.

Hey all, just got my dv6t quad yesterday.\

    m1330 vs dv6t
The build quality isn't horrible, but it's a noticeable downstep from my old m1330 xps. A bit too much chrome too.

I got an EV03 Battery via amazon, but the box came opened @ the top so i'm worried someone might have played a switcharoo, all the text on the battery looks legit, however I tested it last night and only got about an hour and a half battery life from it (no gaming)

Seems very very odd to me. anyone know if that's the normal battery life for the long life battery (EV03) Reports I heard placed it more around the 3 hour mark supposedly.

Also I noticed the touch sensitive volume buttons on the top don't bring up any OSD, is that normal? if so that seems a bit odd to me.... In an ideal world I suppose that touch panel should represent the actual volume level, it looks like a gauge after all.

Anyone else tested battery life with an EV03 battery?

I have the EV03 battery and 1:45 minutes is about the best I have achieved using the 'HP Recommended' Profile.

The OSD for volume and Mute is a two step process, you must have all of the MediaSmart Applications installed and use the Sound Drivers in the SWSETUP folder or on HP's Web Site.

Looks like that battery life I was getting was accurate then. Not too good lol. I'll get like what? 1 hour playing a game.

    Hmmm thanks for that update.
So we need all of them including the bloatware? crap =/

OK, after a LOT of hassle finding that both FF and CHROME wont work
decent with the HP site.. or HP wont work with them I guess...
must be some kind of sinister Microsoft/HP deal.

Used IE8 to Download all of the drivers from the page above.

Been playing a lot with my newly arrived DV6-2000 and so far Im pretty pleased about it.
No vertical lines, temp wont reach above 64 celsius, & its a good lookin mofo.
Havent put it to the test yet though, havnt gamed or anything.. building it up slowly, but Im getting there.
Will keep the ones that are interested posted.

If there are any unregistered folks out there reading along with any
specific questions.. this is the time to register and ask them!

i had backed up my swsetup folder too before installing windows 7 but it turns out i didnt even need it. all the files i downloaded from the hp site covered all devices/applications that i wanted from HP anyway - minus their bloatware. im a pretty happy camper so far.

how did your clean install come along? did you use the drivers you downloaded or ones from another source?

well my battery just blows, i mean this computer is a complete BEAST, i love using CS4 photoshop on this thing because everything is just so clear, also for games, this thing is a complete monster, it can handle just about anything, the only games i havnt tried yet are racing ones like nfs shift and GTR evolution.. but like crysis, bf2 (with 100 bots) everything works smoothly. im loving this keyboard though, people are saying how it feels oldschool? im sorry, but this is how a keyboard should feel like, it has a nice warm matte touch to it (or is it just warm fromt he i7? lol) the track pad is a little stiff and unresponsive, but who honestly uses that. num pad is a bit smashed but its an instant getting used to. after typing serial numbers about 2-3 times, youll figure out were everything is. there are some minor disappointments with this computer though, first is, its webcam, its a measly little 1.3 mega pixel and it makes it seem your looking through a window in satans rectum. feels cheap.
the build quality feels a bit cheap, yes some of the parts are not completely flush but its literally off by no more than 1mm... sound quality is decent, but its definetly not something you want to show off to your family about you brand new 1200 dollar laptop and its sound blows at full volume.

but system wise, this thing is perfect, i have not had an issue, just a bump here and there but its nothing that cant be solves with a bloatware delete.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

as for my problems, i have a couple more, for example, EVERY time i use my computer i get this message "a program on windows is trying to display a message" and when i click DISPLAY IT, its just white and nothing happens, the message goes away, but comes back after 4 mins, so what i have ended up doing is just dragging it out of view and leaving it from my mind. =D but i would like a solution.

also, for anyone out there, who is using a cooling pad, and are you using one that causes a noticable difference? because im using a targus cooling pad and its complete garbage, changes the temp by like 1-3 c....

but i think thats it, i had my screen flicker again today, and if its going to get more occurant, that i would like to get more solid information instead of a, "dont worry about it" i will contanct HP tomrow if i have to, but i would like to solve the problem through you guys.

oh and one last thing, win 7 is EPIC on this computer. =D works amazing
(but if your doing anything graphic intensive, i suggest getting more than 4gb ram, 4 is enough to do whatever, and you will get like 6 seconds of lag or cluter during a game for about 4 seconds once like every hour or so, but if you got the 6gb ram, perfect your in heaven.

anyway, if you guys have any questions or blah blah blah, you know the deal.

i will take thorough pictures for any one, give me the angels you want and ill snap em

^ nice overview. im glad you're enjoying the beast. what's up with the flickering screen though? that should NOT be happening. do not hesisitate to send it back to HP if you fear that the problem is something serious or something that will get more serious over time... you have 21 days to return your unit - that means you can start your RMA authorization within 21 days (they can get the unit on the 25th day, that doesnt matter.) after forking over good $, id be looking that machine over like crazy. when i got my dv7, i analyzed the hell out of it for 2.5 weeks straight before i realized this thing is in perfect working order.

C:\swsetup . it's at the root of the C drive on your machine assuming it's straight from HP and has the HP tweaked installation of windows.

Dude, I haven't slept all night!! Its working now, thank some holy figure, Im glad now.
Except for some of the Win7 sounds (kinda normal after 7 yrs of XP) and the Win7 desktop icon at the far right ISNT pleasant to work with.
Ive been up all night configuring and testing, installing, enjoying and touching and oee.. did make one major screwup with that Swsetups folder haha, I actually put all the files in Nero but forget to press BURN. After a while I just forgot and installed other stuff, rebooted.. and formatted the damn thing without even realizing I forget to back it up.
Its good to know that the HP covers most of the drivers, but still.. I wouldnt mind if one of u guys did a comparison between the Swsetup-folder and this site.. just to see what im missing.

Ive just installed my first game btw, Mirrors Edge, maxed it oud, 16x AAQ.. NO LAG! Coming from a Geforce 6-series GPU its amazing.
Ill be downloading some recent games later on, cant wait to see how it handles MW2. Ive been waiting forever to play that game, didnt even see the official trailers so it wont ruin anything.

Enigma Wolf's opinion is pretty much the same as mine.. glad to see there can be happy owners aswell haha.
But our 'beast' is brand new.. so lets see how it goes along with time.
    Lets see:

Maybe it has to do with the bloatware uve deleted? Do a fresh install, format the damn thing and make it yourrrss!

What model? Was it expensive? The ones around 40 - 50 US dollars tend to do the job.. thats what the reviews say.
Ive been gaming for 30 minutes now.. And the temps are steadily rising...... Cores max are at 73 and the GPU at 70. What are your max temps?

Whats an OSD? The weird thing about those touchkeys.. even after my fresh install of Win7, they remained functioning, didnt install a single thing??

Hi, I ordered my dv6t quad on November 30, with an estimated ship date of December 8 (yesterday). So far, the laptop has not shipped: the order status page shows "Order in Production". HP customer service could not help me much: all they said was that if I did not receive the laptop by the 11th (the delivery daye for two-day shipping), I could call and request a refund of the shipping :-(

Anyway, wanted to share and find out if anyone else in the same (or a similar) boat.

This is a cool machine and I plan to use it as my main development machine (use Java and at least two Linux VM's all the time). I just wish HP were more forthcoming about what is happening at their end.

    OSD = On Screen Display.

Basically when you move the volume slider I want to see an update on where it's at on screen. Otherwise i'm not sure where i'm changing the volume to, (and not only in specific programs, I mean running in the background)

I'm starting to think there is no function like this and you only get it when running one of HP's subpar media programs.

    tested a few more games,

Crysis runs @ 1280x720 on gamer w/ a bit of choppyness. I'm seriously wondering why people were complaining about the resolution in the first place, I prefer turning on graphics stuff HDR and volumetric effects more than simply upping the res, and I doubt this pc could handle crysis on gamer mode in 1920x1080.

I ordered the high capacity 6 cell battery with my laptop, but have yet to confirm that it is in fact the high capacity version. I have been trying to figure out what the serial number should be. Does any one know how I can figure this out?

Seems as though I am in the same boat as other buyers who purchased the dv6t quad on November 27th that have not received shipment confirmation. I assume there are many...

Order status says, "Order in production (Estimated to ship on December 9, 2009)".

It has been 2 brutal weeks already, how long could it possibly take to throw a few stock components together? Very frustrating.

What is the general consensus out there as far as when you current dv6t holders think I will actually receive this thing? What were your typical production turn-arounds from order date to receive date?

update for you guys 2nd day :)
    1) I go the 12 cell * HUGE*, it inclines the notebook alittle so some the heat actually escapes but i'm still gonna get a cooler
    2) the finger print reader you have to swipe multiple times to get it read properly
    3) the screen is just murder on my eyes, does anyone have recommendations beside turning the gamma to the lowest setting?
edit: the 12 cell gave me around 3.5-4 hours on stuff other than gaming :( i wonder if it'll last 1 hours with gaming
any owners can recommend some accessories like casing?

Even i had placed an order on 27th Nov and estimated build date is 9th Dec 09

I spoke to the sales person, following is the conversation

12/09/2009 02:26:47PM Agent (Natalie): "I can see that the built date is today. However, there are now tracking information yet with regards to the shipping."
12/09/2009 02:27:01PM Muzakkir: "so is there any delay ?"
12/09/2009 02:27:30PM Agent (Natalie): "I have checked your order. It is not listed under the delay report."
12/09/2009 02:27:43PM Agent (Natalie): "If there are delays, you will be able to receive an email about it."
12/09/2009 02:28:06PM Agent (Natalie): "Please wait for at least 24 hours for any updates."
12/09/2009 02:28:27PM Agent (Natalie): "Let me inform you that you will receive this item before December 24, 2009."
12/09/2009 02:28:51PM Agent (Natalie): "I do not have the exact date for it yet"
12/09/2009 02:29:11PM Agent (Natalie): "All I have are the estimated dates since there is not tracking information about your order yet."
12/09/2009 02:29:19PM Agent (Natalie): "Please wait for at least 24 hours."[/I

    1-Uninstall all hp mediasmart garbage
2- Download Microsoft Intellitype Pro 7.0 (google it. download from microsoft hardware page -> choose a multimedia keyboard in download page)
    3-Enjoy your volume OSD

I have problem with the display. Sometimes the screen dims and backs on randomly, Let me describe it this way, imagine you are watching TV and there is power problem (like during lightening) and your screen goes off and back on quickly like blinking once very fast . This happens to my lcd, it just dims and then is normal, I haven't tried external displays yet, Anyone know something about this? It happens when it's running on AC power.

I think the High Capacity 6-Cell Battery is 5600 mWh, just use Battery Bar Pro and it will tell you the rating of the battery you have installed in the machine.

    Hello Folks!

After reading through the BIOS and screen issues, still went ahead and bought a dv6t quad laptop with 4GB RAM.. Found that the machine i got was recognizing 4GB sometimes (still said 1.99 GB usable) but when i rebooted the laptop, it detected only 2GB. HP support was not able to fix. Finally RMA'ed the laptop back.. Waiting for a replacement.. Very Disappointed.

    wohooo worked thanks.
It's kind of sad, they should have had the touchbar as the volume indicator, after all it does look like a gauge.

Sorry, If I'm posting at wrong place, but hope I'll get the suitable reply here.

Inspite of latest better configurations of dv6t quad, why its so cheap as compared to Dell SXPS 1640/1645 ? This puts a question mark before banking on HP.

Also recent reliability study says, HP laptops are LEAST reliable and Asus are most !!!

Again, HP dv6t quad ed. did not got a complete review by NBR team !!! Is there any reason for not looking at this model by NBR team ?

Received an email from HP containing a $50 coupon for any "inconvenience" caused by the delay producing my custom laptop. No word about an estimated production date yet.

I am guessing that I am looking at a minimum of a five day delay, given that people who ordered on the 27th (three days before I did), were promised an estimated build date of December 9th. I had ordered on November 30, and was given estimated ship date of December 8. Also, I suppose that the laptops for those folks who ordered on the 27th have not shipped yet...sigh.

Just in case anyone is interested, I went for the dv6t base configuration with the following options: 8GB RAM (since I habitually use a couple of VM's during development) and a wireless N card.

Hey, all we can do at this time is wait patiently while HP gets their act together. The silver lining is that HP *might* have solved some engineering problems (such as the flashing screens or "dimming displays" that others have reported) and our laptops might benefit from any improvements.

    Fingers crossed...

Tinderbox thanks for recommending CPUID, this program is great. I like that is shows min, max, and current temperatures. Room temp here is 20 C while playing League of Legends on maxed out settings (with HP recommended power settings) I am reaching 73 C after a 45 min battle. It seems to remain constant around 73-75 C during longer battles. Is any one having an issue with their gama resetting after start up? I think it may be that my game reverts the settings to high gamma. I witched the graphic setting to use "my settings" for 3d performance. Ill see if that helps.
