This is the reason why HP got the last position on laptop reliability study![]()
Again many owners are complaining about low quality dv6t screen and keyboard. And that might be the reason its so cheaper compared to even Dell Studio 1555 or XPS 1640/1645.
-
What did you do to get the $50 coupon? What HP # did you call?
-
Looks like I should try to complain and get some HP cash, lol.
SubhajitDasGupta, did it take much to get the coupon?
Ordered on 27th. Proposed ship date Dec. 9th. Today, still nothing. -
Is there anyway to make dv6t QE boot faster? It boots even slower than an Core 2 Duo laptop.
And is there anyways to have more options in BIOS (to disable EIST..._ -
What is your boot time from the push of the power button to desktop? My fully loaded system (with MS Office and all my software) boots in about 59 seconds.
-
Anyone else experiencing this?? Ideas? Sadly, it could be anything.... -
-
Keep in mind the display does not stay dimmed, its almost like the laptop winks at me.
The only software I have installed so far is Office 2007, Norton Security Suite 2010 and the HP Media Smart Connector for my HP Home Server.
I tried shutting down the HP PC Dock and any other applications (IE, Outlook, etc.) thinking that maybe an application was just refreshing or trying to get my attention, but it still persists....
Could even be hardware on the verge of failure, I think this one is going back -
I ordered the DV6T Quad Edition during the Black Friday sale ($894 incl tax). I had an estimated shipping date of Dec 9th. I was fearing the worst when it still showed In Production till this morning but thankfully the status has changed to Shipped now
From hitting F5 on HP site, I'm now going to do it on the fedex site

urg, i ordered mine on black Friday as well but now they say due to shipping constraints the estimated build date changed from the 9th to the 18th. their giving me a 50$ coupon which brings my order down to about half off but still...
-
ugh given all the pre and post black friday orders, it's possible they're rushing these units out. Got me a bit concerned about the quality.
I haven't seen the winking effect you mentioned earlier, but I have been noticing that for some reason this screen has a default to set the gamma way too high on fullscreen games. Anyone know how to correct this? Nvidia control panel settings don't seem to do squat for these fullscreen settings.
btw, anyone planning on having 1 battery, make sure it's the 12 cell, this thing is a monnnnnnnnnnnnster w/ power consumption. I'm seriously missing the m1330 xps' build quality but the quad core power and this video card are amazing. -
-
-
-
-
Can anyone give me an estimate of battery life with screen set at lowest and just taking notes with the 12 cell? And how about lowest screen setting and extremely light web browsing and notetaking?
All help is appreciated! -
like I said, beast of a machine lol. If you primarily want something for note taking I'd recommend a 13 incher -
Well, i received the dreaded "Delayed" email last night with the $50 coupon.
Unfortunately, i selected the free shipping option and because of the delay their new anticipated ship date is the 18th...soo mayybe ill get it before Xmas?
Anyway, i think i may try to ask for further compensation for the inconvienience, possibly 2 day air. I will post the results, I am sure there are others with this problem.
Thanks SubhajitDasGupta for your help. -

During bootup black isnt even black.. seems washed out.
Also, do you have problems with the viewing angles??
Its my first laptop so I dont know if its a common normal thing but Its only possible to view this screen in 1 possible way without losing quality/coulor distortion. When I tilt it down it gets whiter immediately.
But I did manage to reduce some of it and get better screen colors:
Nivida Control Panel > Adjust Video Color settings > WITH Nvidia Settings > i was happier when i put the GAMMA at 0.69.
> ADVANCED > Just enable every thing and put the Dynamic Range at full.
Let me know how this works out for people with 'washed out' screens.
And do post your own configurations when its working for you!
I used the free tool PC Wizard to determine I have a Samsung screen built in btw. -
ok, im having some system errors on my dv6, so i have left my laptop on all night twice before to let it download a certain torrent file.(clean file, checked) on both of those occasions, i would return to my laptop, my entire desktop is in shambles, everything is back to factory settings, i have 94 percent RAM used and no program is apparently using it, (i only have AIM and Vuze running) nothing responds even hitting the shutdown button so i had to do the force shutdown by holding down the power button on the keyboard place ehre thing, and recently for about 5 days, each time my computer starts up, it asks me to check for disks errors, and i have let it try, but it just freezes with no progress at all, so i end up just telling it to skip it, (this is at the almost DOS like startup screen right before getting to the log in screen), so first thing i did this morning when i logged on, ran two anti virus programs (AVG and avast on thorough mode), ran a registry cleaner, i had no threats, but 244 errors registry wise(i cleaned it last night before going to bed) so im worried about my dear old laptop, i will contanct HP support if you chaps dont come up with anything, but i would rather just talk to you guys and figure out a solution, what i am currently doing is refragmenting my dicks, and after that, i will check for disks errors on my disk properties tab.
any suggestions? advice? hmmm??
because i have finals next week, and it would seriously, seriously break my balls if this thing fails on me -
Format reinstall, doesn't look like a hardware problem

I suggest you download the free HDtune and check for Smart info and for disk errors, using the scan.

I am really at a loss for what to spend the $50 coupon on, any suggestions? Maybe they will allow me to go back and upgrade the current machine they are building to include Windows 7 professional for the added $75.
Is Windows 7 pro worth the upgrade over Windows 7 standard?
What are you other coupon recipients spending the dough on? -
Enigma Wolf, ive had some bad experiences with VUZE, I switched to uTorrent.
It isnt Java based and is very light. Its the most suggested client I think. -
I was playing modern warfare 2 and the snow level was blinding me even with the brightness turned way down in the options menu.....
VERY disappointing.
I'm not sure if it it has to do with the screen itself tho since on the desktop I can change the gamma settings to make it much much better. Seems to be a default fullscreen setting. -
hmm, ok well im dropping vuze thanks for your suggestion, im also scanning with this hd tune program, so far no problems.
and i really.. really.. dont want to format.. =( i just put 200gb of music, and about another 30gb worth of games. and not to mention my dyno program that takes literal ages to install.. ='( -
i bought headphones, there wasn't much else that was around 50$ at the store that i wanted/needed
-
I plan to use this printer primarily to print CD and DVD labels. I currently use a light-scribe DVD burner to print labels, but it is a painstaking process (best described in a separate message). -
Am starting to find the gamma level in games annyoing.. Fallout 3 is too bright.
Anyone else with the bright screen issue?? -
Does the HP Dv6t come with the Windows 7 installation disk so I can reformat everything or do I need to get that separately
-
-
-
Tinderbox (UK) BAKED BEAN KING
You can do that, but make the recovery dvd first, it took me 4 discs, because by formatting you will delete the recover mbr on the primary hdd and will no longer be able to recover from the boot screen.
Also copy the SwSetup directory to a dvd as it contains 3.5gb of drivers and software.
-
Thanks. -
Tinderbox (UK) BAKED BEAN KING
You can, but not some of the free software like cyberlink dvd studio , some regard this a rubbish anyway, but 3.5gb seems like a lot, i wonder what else is in there?
EDIT : not much, see attached pictureAttached Files:
-
-
Can you save the Swsetup to a flashdrive instead of a disk?
-
Tinderbox (UK) BAKED BEAN KING
Of course , just delete what you dont want to save space or download winrar and compress it all first.
-
Thanks for the screenshot Tinderbox!!
Requested that a couple of pages back for comparison to the drivers at the HP site.
I see now that im missing out on some free software Works and DVDblabla..
Its as ive been told. Not important software.
Could you have a look at this and comment:

I have had a lot of notebooks 20+ and they all have poor viewing angles , and most appear washed out if not viewed direct on, the one i have now has average viewing angles and good overall brightness with no loss of brightness in the corners of the screen, and the colours are quite good, though i do have a problem with fine vertical lines across the entire screen, I have has even had a replacement and it was the same.
Have you seen my thread, see link beolow.

I appreciate your answer, as a total laptop noob I really though we were
living in the day and age that laptopscreens had the same properties as desktop ones.
My bad I guess.. well this does settle my temper. I was considering sending it back.
I now can go on worrying about the 2 hours of battery-life.
As far as your problem goes.. that, is a serious issue my friend.
I saw the thread some while back yes but I hadnt had any wise input/advice to give.
What are you going to do with this failing screen? Send it back again?
You should consider raising hell, maybe they'll give you a newer model with assembly improvements?
Thanks again and btw what are your con's with this notebook?
Top3. ( next to the failing screen ofc. ) -
I received this notebook last week. My only complaint about it is that the battery life for the standard 6 cell battery only lasts a little over an hour when I just do word processing.
For you former XP users who want the look and feel of XP in Windows 7, check this out: http://satukoro.deviantart.com/art/Luna-port-to-Windows-7-Aero-136960235
This has 2 themes: regular luna and luna aero. I have found that using the regular luna theme results in longer battery life. Maybe some others who are more tech savvy can test this out, but it seems that whatever theme you use has an effect on the amount of battery power used, perhaps because of graphics and other things. -
Tinderbox (UK) BAKED BEAN KING
You should get over 2hours + when only doing word processing , even more in power saver mode, if you dont need wifi and blue-tooth turn them off to save power.
Download free battery bar to check your runtime.

As a follow up to my previous posts, I purchased the quad on Nov 27th and the build has been delayed until Dec 18th. I received the $50 "Delayed" coupon, but figured i would try for more (i.e. two day shipping instead of the 5-7 day i purchased). Unfortunately, I was not able to get HP upgrade my shipping or even change any spec that was part of my original order. I did however get them to credit $50 back onto my credit card in addition to the $50 coupon. I regret not asking for more, lol.

I ordered the lappy with intel wireless card, but when it came i found out that the wireless is something else called broadcom. so is it like that with everyone or is that a mistake from hp??
here is a ss of the device manager:

Edit: laptops with G-wireless technology have Broadcom adapters while laptops with N-Wireless technology have Intel adapters. -

Mine DV6t Quad has an INTEL 5100 AGN
-
Then what is the "Intel Wireless-N with Bluetooth" that shows up during the configuration?
-
Tinderbox (UK) BAKED BEAN KING
It just means you notebook has both wifi and bluetooth capability , they can be enabled and disabled with the wireless assistant on the taskbar.
