laptops with G-wireless technology have Broadcom adapters while laptops with N-Wireless technology have Intel adapters.

 

Mine just arrived! Unfortunately, it must sit in its box until I get back from work in the evening. Will post my initial reactions.

Took all of 3 days to get from Shanghai to Austin (picked up on Dec 11, delivered on December 14).

 

I see that most owners agree the screen may leave something to be desired. My question is does the dv6t have the same screen as the dv6? I know they are both the same size and resolution but is it a lower quality screen perhaps. I ask this because I have a dv6t in the cart right now but after reading the comments about the screen I went to best buy to see for myself. They did not have a dv6t but did have a couple of dv6 and I had no problem with the screen on them.

Hope someone can answer as this is all that has me hold from submitting my order.

 

Hi. I was reading this thread for awhile and I found this dv6t is an amazing devise. However, I live in saudi arabia and I think, in hp middle east website, it has a different code"dv6-2020ev" which costs around 1400$. So I'll be pleased if someone could check if it is the same as dv6t .

 

I just ordered a dv6t quad edition and I had a quick question regarding the multimedia capabilities. I want to know if this laptop can output 5.1 Dolby digital / DTS (or even better the HD versions of these formats) through HDMI? Or is it restricted to stereo output?

My initial reactions:

1. Just reformatted everything and reinstalled Windows 7 x64 Ultimate. I have an MSDN subscription through work, so did not have to plunk down any cash.

2. The screen resolution is terrible compared to my dv5t (which has a 1900x1600 scren, or thereabouts). I can plainly see the jaggies in my desktop icons. I will be using this laptop via an external monitor 99% of the time, however, so this is not such a big deal for me.

3. Still getting used to the keyboard layout. The presence of the numeric key pad seems to move all the other keys to the left, relative to the laptop body, and it still feels a bit strange.

4. I plan to use this laptop for development. I am still loading all my development tools, codebases, etc. Will update on what I find.

Overall, I think this is promising to be a great machine.

 

Which guide did you follow to re-install Win 7? What kind of performance benefits did you see? Did you have any issues?

 

Yes, this laptop can output 5.1 Dolby Digital and DTS thorugh HDMI. It is pretty much a Blu-Ray Player in a laptop =D

 

Hi, I've got the dv6t quad for over a month now. I installed some games on it, and all of them are on High settings, and they run smoothly.

My games:
L4D, L4D2, CS:S, Modern Warfare, Modern Warfare 2, R6 Vegas 2, The Saboteur, and Section 8. (all High setting) I did not try Crysis, because I don't wanna buy this game just to test my laptop gaming performance.


I wanna play GTA 4 on this computer.
However, I got some problems with GTA 4.

The game starts, but once it actually loaded into the game, it freezes.

Then, I changed the compatibility mode of this game and see if I can make it works. Unfortunately, nothing happen.

Then I downloaded the crack file to try to run the game without the disk.
This time, I can play the game, but the game is getting very laggy.

Not a single game lags on this laptop. So I do not know what it is that actually causing this problem.


Can anyone help me?

I don't think that the dv6t quad can handle GTA IV on high graphics. Try turning your graphics lower and choosing a lower resolution. If the problem persists, try updating your video card driver.

 

Its true, GTA4 is just too heavy to handle fully. It has an immense world thats got stuff going on each frickin moment, im suprised that our GPU can cope with that! Ive read that the our quad allows it to work in a great way but we havent got the right graphics to go along. I dont care really.. enough games that we can handle so, big deal.

I have the DV6t-2000. You really should try and get a hold on a Coupon, because people saved hundruds of dollars due to HP promotional coupons. ( Not me, I live in Holland, got mine off eBay )

Everyone knows that the bloatware that comes pre-installed on every HP notebook slows it downs considerably. When freshly installed it will perform better, yes. The installation, well.. It depends how experienced you are I guess. It really isnt hard. If youve never done a format before I suggest you keep a pc nearby with this topic opened up. Do you have your own Win7 disc? If not, you can create one for free. Of you want a legal setup you do need your serial number though so you can activate it.

 

I installed Windows 7 using a DVD image I created. Note that I have an MSDN subscription at work that entitles me to ten keys of each Microsoft product, so once I had the DVD, just popped it in and rebooted. Once Windows 7 was installed, set the activation key using a new key.

My laptop originally came with Windows 7 Home Premium, while what I installed was Windows 7 Ultimate. The differences between these editions are apparently limited to Bit Locker, some domain-related enhancements, etc. (I think). I really cannot comment about the relative speeds of the HP-installed Home Premium image and my own Ultimate image. I reinstalled not so much out of a desire to gain speed, but simply because I did not want to spend several hours uninstalling all the bloatware (Ok, "several hours" is an exaggeration).

One other thing pertinent to VirtualBox/VMWare users: the laptop originally comes with "VT" disabled: you must enable it manually in the BIOS.

 

I am planning to replace the original HDD with a SSD and then do a clean install of Win 7 Prof x64 on the SSD. The original will go in a external eSATA enclosure (no format, planning to leave the partitions including MBR untouched for now).

Questions/comments:
- Assuming that I can get the Win 7 x64 installation image from the link pointed out by Ramzii, where can I get all the drivers? Subhajit - Where did you get the drivers? And did you face any issues with the drivers while doing the install?
- I have heard that doing a fresh install on SSD is better than cloning your existing drive. Hence, the fresh install.
- In case of any issues, I can always put the original drive back in.
- Will the MBR on the original drive in the external closure create any issues with the new MBR on the SSD?

Well I could not find the information I was seeking online, as for the DV6T and DV6 line having identical displays. I talked to two representatives at HP who both told me they had the same display. After looking at the DV6 at Best Buy, I have no problem with the display quality so I placed my order. This is actually coming from Santa for my 9 year old daughter and I don't think she will notice any issue with the screen. As long as she can play her Bluray movies and games she will be fine with it.

 

alright guys, so iv fixed most of the problems on my laptop, i have 2 issues that still pester me, and wanted your input, ok so i did a complete disk check error thing, i completed it, but its wierd, even during boot up EACH TIME, i get that countdown until you want your disk check error thing that comes up, and its a pain..

also, i have a small wifi problem, i dont know what it is exactly but help would be amazing

so my wifi works, i know this for a fact, when i go to college, it works 10 hours straight, not a single problem or disconnect nothing.

when i get home, another issue, we have a sayin in french called, ca capt, est ca capt pas.. which means, it works, then.... not so much.. (mostly for cellphones, good excuse to use on girlfriends/wives)

but at home, my wifi just connects, and i have no internet access, its fully connectedm im recieving in the upwards 180million packets, and recieving about 80million, there is still activity, but my internet doesnt work, chrome wont budge, AIM, ie, firefox, all wont move, im installing lavasoft to check for possible malware. and iono.

because my dads vaio can connect to our home wifi perfectly fine and he has no issues at all.

so any suggestions chaps?

 

Try shutting up the router power completely, wait 2 minutes or so, then reconnect it again, it may be IP error

 

I downloaded the drivers from HP's site. Alternatively, if you backed up the "C:\SwSetup" folder on the laptop, look for a "Drivers" folder under that and you should have everything you need.

 

ok 2 things, a tip if your going to play graphics intensive games, i suggest you put on a lower resolution, it helps a lot and doesnt affect the game too much..



as for my problem, my connection goes off and on, iv even restarted my router many times, it still connects to all of our home computers, and i think for the first time, i had that issue today at the school computer labs, so i am quite worried.

i downloaded and installed the newest network driver, but im not sure which one to get, i got the intel option, but my wificard is the wireless N-gen card.

so any help guys?



(i had issues playing nfs shift, it was very graphic intesnsive, i just set the resolution down, and the game played up perfectly)

I dont know much about wifi, try the free Driver tool called Driver Max,
it allows you to download and install 2 free drivers a day.
Do a scan, that way you can see which ones are outdated.

I also came from an old 2004 desktop, first notebook; its sweeet, youll be amazed by the speed.. you wont even know great Win7 is.
Quick, install it on your notebook to see the differance haha.

But no overclocking.. it produces more heat, that something u want to avoid.
Plus the GPU will consume more power.. which we havent got anyway haha.

You don't want to that, cpu in this laptop can get as hot as 85c without a laptop cooler, I think gpu and cpu have a shared heatsink, you don't want to put more stress on the chips, The gpu is much faster that what it's specs look like. It's as fast as desktop 9600gt IMO. I tried Gears of War, Empire total war, Dragon Age, Modern Warfare 2 , Bioshock , Dawn of War 2 and Company of Heroes. All of them are playable at native resolution, Modern warfare 2 lags a little bit because of large changes in frame rate, it goes from 60 to 40 and was very annoying, forcing vsync didn't help much. Gears of War run very well, I haven't tried it with fraps but it seems to be around 60. Company of Heroes is fully playable in DX10. Dawn of War 2 suprisingly runs better the CoH. Bioshock runs like a dream. frame rate in empire total war can drop in very large battles, but sea battle run flawlessly. Overall, I thought 230m is low end gpu in the same level of 8600m before I try it but now I think it;s at least 3x faster than 8600m gt. Considering that 240m is identical to 230m but with higher clocks, I think it's possible to overclock 230m to 240m clocks, ie core clock 500->550, shader 1100-> 1200 but I've failed to install rivatuner in win7 64bit outside of testing mode (unsigned driver problem), as I said earlier due to excessive amount of heat that i7 generates I advise not to overclock without sufficient cooling.

 

If i was to overclock it i would get a cooler for it.I most likey will never try it unless i see other people doing it and having good results .Thanks

ok.. so im still having trouble, and its no longer just my house. 0.0!!!!

my wifi apperntly now works sometimes, and it doesnt work.

i can connect to my neighbors wifi anytime i want (its just a weak connection, but its very stable and i never disconnect) i cannt connect to my home wifi, or even my school wifi. this is very troublesome

anyone know a way to fix this in some sort of settings?

I read somewhere ( a helpful hint, to optimize your Intel Wireless-N Mini-card, you need to change the setting from 20mhz to auto. It wont take full advantage of my router at 20mhz)This is on the Intel Wireless-N Mini-card not the G card.

So if this is the case, I got a $70 credit, plus the 10% off ($75), that equals to $145. I got bing's 20% off, which means $150. I'm getting a total of $295 in savings. So basically I'm getting my laptop for $542 which is including tax and $16 recycling fee. Is this a good deal? The specs are:

i got NOTHING! omg, my internet just isnt working anymore, im at school and im typing this on my itouch, this is totally rediculous. im going to call support tonight if this doesnt work by then.

i have NO connection, it says im fully connected, i can get on google, the moment i try to go on facebook or hulu, or the CAD website, it slows WAAAAY down, takes 40 seconds to load the page, and then, you try to go someplace else, nope.. my wifi decides to take a friggen break and wont budge.

iv tried changing the 20mhz to auto, and iv done a couple other tweaks, but nothing helps =\

anyone else got any advice? or has anyone else had this issue? with this laptop, or any other one and what did you do to repair it

the webcam is 1.3 megapixel, and its not amazing, you probably wont be using it much.

so i just called HP support, iv heard thier support is usually excellent, but i think i may have fallen upon that one person who just doesnt know how to do thier job properly.

So i called HP support in saying that i have a problem with my laptop, it shows that my internet is connected, but i all of my web based programs cannot connect (IE, chrome, steam, AIM, YIM) so they tell me to do this and that, and im explaining to this girl who is actually screaming at another indian co worker and laughing and apparently telling jokes in urdi ir hindi or w.e thier language is. and i was really.. really mad, so i was still polite and tried to explain, i have already done all of that, and it connects for about 3 minutes, then it just freezes, i get no recieved packets and they drop dramatically. and so she REPEATS to me, what i just told her what i did, and im explaining everything, how long this has lasted and ect, so she tries in assisting me, we go to the recovery screen from boot up, and she asks me for what i am seeing on screen, i explain, and she then proceeds to ask, do you see a "restore factory software option?" and i said no.. pause.. do you see it?... i said no again.. she said, sir.. are you sure, and i said lady... there are literally only 4 options.. and im lookin at em, there is no restore to factory option.. and she pauses.. check one more time, you might have missed it.. i said NO.. she ASKS AGAIN.. pause.. she laughs with a co worker.. blah blah blah.. i was getting incredibly frustrated. so we proceed to do a couple more things such as uninstalling the driver for my intel wifi link. (she also asked me, are you sure you dont see an ATHOS option? she asked me literally no exaggeration 9 times with me repeating no..) so afterwards, she proceeds to guide me into DOS, and tells me to type in ipconfig.. i didnt understand because of her thick accent, and i ask her to spell it out for me letter by letter, she blurts out i for india, P for pasha, c counter, o oedipus (i you not.. she said that), and she said it SO INCREDIBLY fast.. i didnt catch a thing, i asked her to repeat it slowly, and skip using the words, just a letter is fine, she repeats the exact same process. so i politly ask if i can be transfered to someone who speaks english domestically.. and she apparently took offense and told me to not get frustrated and to lsiten carefully, and that took me off to the edge, i started yelling (i was in the middle of class) shouting saying im not mad, NOW im mad, and you know what? you wanna get mad? fine.. im gonna go down to the cafeteria.. and order me some GROUND BEEF.. she apparently told me there was no need for any of that.. i hung up.. called another person.. are the odds? i get the same girl..


any of you chaps think you can help me out with this issue? im staying away from HP support for the moment..

your tracking status wont work for a couple days so dont worry about it, once it hits alaska itll all click together, i was worried too when i was checking, but the minute my package arrived in alaska (i shipped it to USA) it showed all the details of what happened between alaska and shanghai... so i wouldnt worry man

I am a newbie to this forum and just purchased my new DV6-Quad ed on Black Friday..After a couple of coupons and a 10% discount due to shipping delays, I got a very sweet deal for the laptop.

While I am waiting for the laptop..I was planning to burn the discs for the clean image of win 7 as mentioned in a different thread in the same forum. I was wondering if the HP DV 6T-2000 has the license key stuck on the laptop or do I have to call Customer Service to get it..

you have the liscense key stuck riiiight on the bottom. so you dont have to worry about a thing

Like most OEM notebooks, the dv6t-quad has a license key stuck on the bottom of the notebook. It will not be necessary to call CS to obtain it Makes life much easier.

 

Oh you got the 2 day free shipping thing? I actually ordered a dv8 and it was ship out on Dec 11 and expected to arrive on Dec 18. However, I recieved the laptop on Dec 14. In other words, it took only 2 business days
And I had normal 5-7 day shipping. HP and FedEX is a wonder and together, they have awesome service.

Nope... Actually it was a customized HP Laptop. It came from China!! Its unbelievable how it got from China(Friday) to the US(Monday)

 

I thought business days were only Monday through Friday.

FOR ANYONE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THIER WIFI CARD *INTEL SERIES 5100*

i found the issue.. its posted on the intel website, avoid using power on its economy mode (or w.e its called, it escapes me right now) keep it on max, doesnt mater if it kills the little battery your monster has.. just make it never run on conservative.. kills about 70 percent chances of you connecting to the worlds routers.. =D

just a friendly FYI to the WORLD
