Maybe that button up near the power button is for the backlit keyboard? It would really suck if they didn't carry this over to the new model. I can't imagine they would leave this out but have a lighted trackpad. It doesn't make sense but you can also see in the picture that the trackpad is lit and the keyboard is not.
HP, please do not disappoint me!!!
-
-
That button seems to have a red circle next to it, so I'm guessing it has something to do with the Beats Audio.
Still, if there's no button to light up the trackpad, maybe there's no button to light up the keyboard as well? I'm going to hold onto hope, but I swear, if HP does not include a backlit keyboard, I will not be buying this laptop and they will have made a really stupid glaring omission. -
-
Dell has XPS 15 and 17 with the new Sandybridge chips available for order on their website now. They have a ship date of 3/15. Hope this means HP will have the new DV6/7 available soon.
-
The thread is now called "OFFICIAL: HP dv6t Quad Edition (Gen 4) SB Owners Lounge"
So, where is people with the Gen 4 laptops on here? Seems bit early to rename it at this stage. -
-
-
The "gen 4" one was only out for a few weeks and it was recalled anyway.
-
By the way, these gen names are official naming by HP. The threads are all correct. Mine gen 3 (dv6-3000), the January 2011 dv6 quads are gen 4 (dv6-4000), and the upcoming redesign is gen 5 (dv6-5000). Likewise, the first-gen Core i5/i7 dv7s are gen 4 (dv7-4000), the Jan 11 SB quads are gen 5 (dv7-5000), and the upcoming redesign is gen 6 (dv7-6000). NBR isn't making up the gen names; they come from HP. -
That is simple...yet really confusing....
-
-
As of today, February 27, the quads with i7 2XXXQM are back on the HP website with a projected build date of March 6 or following. Does it mean they now have the new chip set to go with the Sandy Bridge?
Are these the replacement machines being offered? -
Wait, I'm confused. So if I try to order at dv6t Quad Edition with the 2nd generation processor they will cancel my order and tell me that I'm not able to buy one until the new edition comes out? Is there any way to savage the current $300 coupon going on right now?
-
Is this:
Intel® Chipset Design Issue May Affect Certain HP Desktop and Notebook PCs HP Pavilion dv6-4011tx Entertainment Notebook PC - HP Customer Care (Thailand - English)
the correct place to check when the refund will be available?
I live in Thailand and HP here said refunding is not available yet. -
1. If you bought your computer from HP directly, you have until April 30 to return the computer with the flawed chipsets to HP for refund or replacement. Or you can use the credit to order a different computer.
2. If you did not buy it directly from HP, then you may need to talk to the vendor who sold it to you for refund, replacement or any other remedy that the vendor may offer. Most vendors in the US seem to be offering some variation of the deal that HP offers. In some cases the details may vary. -
I RMA'd my dv6t QE after the defect was detected. I have actually ordered one of the "old" SB dv6t QE, because I liked it so much. All-in for $1,150 ($300 coupon plus 5% back from Fat Wallet) seems like a nice deal. $400 cheaper than the XPS 15 I ordered.
For the people who have had it for awhile, what are your feelings on the laptop? -
They issues that I have not overcome are the keyboard layout and the screen resolution. Having a row of media keys on the left side just kills me when typing. The screen res tends to make things look really large from time to time. I find myself going to websites sometimes and thinking that I must have zoomed in because everything on the site looks bigger than it should but nope, it's just the resolution matched with the style of the site. The resolution is also not the best for playing games.
One other thing would be the sound. Sometimes it seems like I can't turn up the volume enough, not sure if it's from the speakers being in the front. I also hate when I'm playing a game and push the volume buttons on the keyboard and it minimizes the games and brings me to windows. Really annoying.
From a performance perspective I have no complaints at all. I can have as many IE tabs open as I want and have a virus scan running and not notice any slow down at all. Sometimes I'll have a game minimized while doing a bunch of other stuff and still not notice a difference.
Over all a very strong performer with a few little quirks which seem to have been worked out in the next gen model.
I hope this helps. -
Hey guys I just bought the dv6t Quad Ed today 03/01/11 and noticed that several features aren't clearly listed on the hp shopping website specs. Based on the HP press release the new dv6 should have USB 3.0, HP CoolSense Tech, Beats Audio, Quad Speakers, Raydeon 6000 series, and HP TrueVision HD Webcam. The hp shopping website for dv6t Quad doesn't mention any of these technologies except for the Radeon card. The website just list 4 USB slots, a regular TrueVision Webcam (Without HD Label), and Dolby(TM) audio + Altec Lansing speakers. Interestingly enough the dv7t quad list Beats Audio. For those of you with the laptop in hand could you confirm whether these new features exist? Maybe the website is just out of date / vague?

Did you notice that the displayed pictures on the pavilion dv7 seems to be the redesigned of the new 2011 model? So is this the new model or not. Its kinda confusing...
-
Either way, if it has the 6570M, it's not the new one. -

HP's Pavilion dv6 and dv7 get Envy-like features, g-series loses the bargain basement looks -- Engadget
By the way now I'm thinking about either getting the dv6t, dm4t, or Envy 14 when they are refreshed. The dm4t and Envy 14 don't have dates on when they will get Sandy Bridge. What do you think of those two as powerhouse/gaming laptops. I like the smaller form factor. Choices, choices -
http://h20424.www2.hp.com/campaign/consumer_notebooks/ap/en/resources/HP_Pav_DV4_Brochure_FA_web.pdf -
That dv4t looks kinda nice, altough just 3 USB (2xUSB3, 1xUSB2) ports and no eSATA is a bit dissapointing. The same goes for the dv5. And yes, USB3 is nice, but is no replacement for eSATA, as you do not have direct access to the disk, and because the USB3 support is not native, you need OS drivers for it to work; this means USB3 ports will not work before the OS loads.
And I can't stop complaining about manufactures using lowly 1366x768 screens!
My current 2+ years old computer has a 14" 1440x900 screen, 5 USB (yes, five!) ports and an eSATA port. I upgraded CPU (Core2 P8400 to T9600) and video card (HD3650 to HD4650) about a year ago, but it's already showing it's age, specially with newer games.
Why I want a higher res. screen? Because I do actual work on this computer, not just gaming, and 768 vertical pixels is just so 2004.
I like the newer and the to-be-released dv5, also the Envy 14 is very nice, and the last 6 months I've been thinking about buying one, but the lack of a better screen has held me back. -
Hi,
Does anyone have comments on battery life/heat compared to the i5 in the dv6t select edition. I currently have the select edition with the i5 right now and am considering the qe with the sandy bridge i7, but I am concerned that the heat will be much worse then with my current i5.
Thanks -

Hey City Pig thanks for the pdf on the dm4. I saw the specs for dv6 and dv7 on the site as well! Do you know if the dv6 will have the SATA6 port so I can upgrade to a SSD in the future? I'm looking at the crazy OCZ Vertex 3 right now.
Also for the USB 3.0 I know the wire transfer speed is faster than 2.0. Is this speed also limited by the hard drive too. So in essence I have to update to a SSD if I want to get max USB 3.0 speeds when transferring to a external? -

I am thinking about returning my dv6tqe for an Envy 17. I do a lot of webdesign and the resolution on the Envy 17 is much more appropriate. I would also like the coupon I used on the dvtqe to apply on the Envy. I am not sure if HP will let me do that. Do you guys have any advice on how to sweet talk customer service to allow it?
-
He said the display picture (current silver color one) on the website is wrong and they will fix it... eventually. So I'm assuming that the overview description is also wrong. The product being shipped is indeed the 2011 dark umber dv6tqe. Can't hurt to call and make sure before ordering. -
I spoke to two customer service managers who could not verify or deny whether it is indeed the new model even after I showed them the video. I talked to them today and currently the order is in the process of being canceled by tomorrow although the system is already in production. They said worst case scenario I get the system and have 21 days to use it before returning. I think the return process will be a hassle. If you are correct, not updating the website is a pretty sloppy move on their part
.
-
Yeah... I want to order one right now, but I just don't have that much faith in HP. They need to stop beating around the bush and give a straight answer. Who knows, maybe a better coupon deal will show up in a week or two.
-
In need of some advice from the experts on here. Just got a call from HP, offering to give me my DV7QT I ordered for my original price, plus throwing in 3 years of Accidental Damage warranty for free (which usually cost I think about $200 or so). Here was my configuration:
dv7t Quad Ed
• Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
• 2nd generation Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2630QM (2 GHz, 6MB L3 Cache) with Turbo Boost up to 2.9 GHz
• 1GB ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) HD 6570 graphics [HDMI, VGA]
• 8GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
• 1TB 5400RPM Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
• No Additional Office Software
• No additional security software
• 9-Cell Lithium-Ion Battery (over-sized) - Up to 5.0 hours of battery life +++
• 17.3" diagonal HD+ HP BrightView Infinity LED Display (1600 x 900)
• Blu-ray player & SuperMulti DVD burner
• HP TrueVision Webcam with Mic + HP SimplePass Fingerprint Reader [For Brightview Infinity Display]
• Intel 802.11b/g/n WLAN
• Standard Keyboard
$1260 w/ No Warranty
So, I asked him about new model / refresh, which surprise, surprise, he knows nothing about. So, I wanted to ask, would you guys take this deal? Is this a good deal? I'm getting to the point where waiting for this imaginary refresh is just frustrating now. Anybody know of any features in the new DV7 that I thought to wait for? Please advise. -
-
Well that's obvious. I don't really believe what they're selling. That's why after I called I decided not to buy despite what he said. I doubt they just forgot to update the web site. Easier to wait and see than deal with returns.
-
Wow I just looked at the links City Pig put up. The new designs for the dv4 are pretty crazy too. Technology changes so freaking fast. I was starting to think about waiting for Ivy Bridge lol.
This is a little off topic but are you guys trying to get your dv6t this month so you can play the new Crysis 2 as well -
Nah, My laptop is falling apart, top half held on with a makeshift tape hinge lol. And the dv4 does looks pretty nice.
-
Completely agree - I cannot do any work with the touchpad, need a separate mouse. Also, the volume seems limited. I use VLC player (it allows you to go up to 200% volume) and sometimes it's still not enough. Also, can't stand how it exits full screen mode.. Also, it gets really hot...
Question - will the new refreshed dv6t really have switchable graphics?
Also, just curious but is the regular intel graphics powerful enough to play games like SC2? I would rather have LQ gaming with a cool laptop than HQ gaming with a burning hot one.. -
According to the spec sheet in City Pig's Link it does have switchable graphics. CoolSense technology may reduce heat.

After all this hassle with HP I've decided that Sandy Bridge is taking too long and the issues surrounding the release are very unclear. I'm going to wait for Ivy Bridge to come out end of this year or beginning of the next year. Thanks everyone for your help.
-
The $805 clearance deal for the DV6TQE at HP right now is bordering on absurd
it's all I can do to hold out for the updated version.
Faster graphics, USB 3.0, cooler temps, better speakers, and generally better build quality is quite a dramatic upgrade. I really hope the new design goes live soon -
I suspect they will ... but there is certainly no guarantee of pricing ... except there is certain to be deals as time passes. Second generation CPUs are priced well below the previous price/performance ratio. The question is whether USB 3.0 won't be pushed aside by 'Thunderbolt' or something else new & shiny.
