Just put in my order for the new model while the $300 off coupon was still valid :D - my new DV6T Quad Edition was $870 (820 + 50 tax) shipped !!

Really looking forward to burning this thing in

EDIT: There's a $325 coupon now? Guess I'm gonna have to give HP another call...

I'm in the same situation. My recent order should be arriving today or tomorrow.

I went ahead and ordered the new revision last night with a new code ( $325 off dv6tqe) which made my spec total out to just above $888 (over $50 cheaper that the old revision order considering no backlit keyboard). I will be returning the soon to arrive model.

I personally do not mind waiting to get my refund and I would rather wait a couple of weeks longer for the revised model considering the changes that were made. All the changes that were made were significant for me with the revised keyboard layout, dedicated trackpad buttons, Radeon 6770M, Beats audio with quad speakers, and USB 3.0. I'm not happy with the lack of a backlit keyboard and I would prefer other chassis color options, but neither of these eclipse the positives with the revision.

In the end, I hate returning products in these instances, but that's the advantage you receive when ordering directly through HP. My final opinion? Utilize that 21 day return / exchange policy!

    Switchable graphics are confirmed...

    1) The stated battery life is pretty long at 5+ hours (must be switchable to achieve that)

    and

    2) The drivers for these laptops include manual switch: AMD High-Definition Graphics Driver HP Pavilion dv6t-6000 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

So what is the difference between the two available graphics cards?

Why is there no difference in price, when there should be a performance difference?

Because HP is likely planning to pull a bait & switch. Expect the price of the 6770M to double within a couple of months. You should buy now if you want it. The difference is very big.

Over the last 2 days I have noticed that my laptop is running hot and the fan is blowing hard while just browsing the web and checking email.

Before it didn't really get that hot and the fan wasn't all that loud unless I was playing a game. Anyone else notice this?

Good thing I'll be sending this back to HP soon!

Is it consistent, or on-and-off? If it's the latter, monitor your temps and running processes. I'll bet a certain annoying Windows process known as WmiPrvSE.exe is the culprit.

No. It's a necessary process, unfortunately. Is it idle, or does it start to push your CPU into high load sometimes?

Mine does it as well from time to time and I recently discovered I have HP CoolSense, and it gives me just a little more control on how my fans react. I don't know if it came stock or after I updated drivers, I just typed it in and it came up.

On another note, am I the only one that is frustrated with the new release? I do like that I gain the full numeric keypad, a slightly better graphics card (with switchable graphics), a hopefully better touchpad, 4 speakers and beats audio. But I lose my backlit keypad, my e-sata port and touchscreen. Mainly the backlit keypad, because I need that.

With our recall they will allow us to put that $ towards an Envy right? That is, hoping the Envy line refreshes before April 30th.

FYI, the graphics card should perform ~25-35% better than yours on average (in best conditions, it'll likely perform 50% better). It's definitely more than slightly better.

A question for anyone that has gotten their bad laptop replaced. Who did you speak with?

I called HP support and spoke to a wall for 15 minutes. I kept getting asked, 'yes, but what is wrong with the machine right now', no matter what I said.

Finally a supervisor told me there was no recall on my DV6T-4000 and Hp would have notified me if there was.

So, even the supervisors are clueless.

Just call again and hope that you don't get another pair of idiots. Also, don't use the word "recall," but mention the chipset issue.

Next time ask for someone from their exchange/refund or resolutions team. I've talked with them a number of times and found them to be knowledgeable and helpful. Also, it helps to give them the order # from you past purchase to pull up the records and run it against recalls/adjustments list. Make sure you specify the Sandy Bridge Chip-set issue for computers manufactured in January 2011 and following.

So if I order one of these dv6tqe quad core tomorrow with the Sandy Bridge CPU, am I on wait for a recall on that chip, or has this been resolved?

If it is still under warranty, HP should help resolve the heat issue. It is possible for any hard drive to go bad, regardless of the brand. For specific help with your computer, please check in the right owner's lounge or thread.

this design NEEDS Ventilation... they have to be run on hard surfaces with unblocked vents. That said, the drive will never under ordinary circumstances be the source of overheating... the CPU or GPU will ... unless the fan is broke, I guess.

RE: Drives, I have had exceptional success with TravelStars. They might NOT necessarily be the absolute best, but they are right up there with a good 'price/performance/longevity'

Can someone that has taken advantage of the relpacement "dark umber" dv6t qe please comment and describe the similarities and differences in the two.
Is the graphics card really as fast as people was expecting it to be?
Did it come with the switchable graphics option?
    Heating/Cooling?
    Fan loudness
    Battery life
    Touchpad
    Keyboard w/ numberpad added
    etc

How was the exchange process w/ HP?
    Thanks,

I regret not searching because somewhere in the 50 pages, I may find my answers, but here goes. I'm thinking about getting the dv6tqe (for the price, it looks too good to be true), but I have a few concerns I want to clear up before making the final decision.

    a) Is it too big/heavy for a college student carrying it around all day? That said, are there any smaller replacements (I checked out the dm4x, but it was a bit underwhelming).
    b) How long does the battery life last? I feel like companies will always overshoot the estimated battery life; from real experience, how long does it last?
    c) How is the build quality? I managed to get my hands on last year's dv7, and it felt very plasticky. Also, HP has a bad reputation of having a ton of breakdowns--not sure if that's because of bad customer support, low-end laptops, etc.
    d) How is the heat dissipation? I'm not very keen with hardware modding, so I would hate to have heat deteriorate some of my internals. Also, I remember the Envy had some heat dissipation issues.
    e) I've heard HP's customer service is horrible. Is it manageable considering how good this laptop seems to be?
    f) How do you guys keep up with promotions (I know I just missed one, but I wanted to see if the dv6t was what I really wanted).

The dv6t has been really hyped here, so I'm hoping it does stack up to what I've heard. Thanks a lot guys.

Yep, this laptop was only advertised for about a month, and only those who ordered it within that first week or two actually recieved it before they stopped shipping it out.
I am one of the few that didn't take the new dv6tqe 6xxx series because I have to have a backlit keypad.

anybody know if there is a chance the dv6-tqe 4000 CTO will ever be getting the switchable graphics option?

I also find that the serial number sticker is missing from my laptop. The windows key sticker is there but nothing from HP. Strange, confusing and a pain in the when requesting assistance from HP. Any ideas how I can get the serial number now?

The sticker is inside the battery bay, you need to remove it to see it.
You can also use the HP Support Tool to check the serial number, it comes installed from factory.

The dv6-4XXX and dv7-5XXX series do not currently have the hardware capability to provide switchable graphics support (it is a standalone Radeon HD 6570M, period).

    Once again thanks justinkw1.

You said currently which sounds like as if it could be a possibility with a future bios update from HP?

I'm just an end user so I'm probably wrong but technically isn't the hardware capable to support switchable graphics through some software updates?

Also, there used to be a small pop-up on the bottom right of the screen when i pressed the caps lock key. I did a clean install and now I don't know which program was doing that. Anyone?
Jeez i've seen bloatware on notebook but this is just ridiculous, no chance i could live with this without a clean install.

does anyone know why the core VID for 2630qm on cpu-z varies so much from computer to computer? Mine is at 0.801 V for 798.3 mhz but i've seen anywhere from 0.720, 0.760, 0.780 or 0.806. Just wondering if there's an explanation for this.
