    The surface temps can get up there. Mainly for the left palm rest which is right above where the hard drive is. Under heavy use, my hard drive gets up to 47 degrees C. That's pretty dang hot for a drive, and one of the reasons I've returned it for a DV6t with SSD. They run cooler.

    After talking with HP customer service, the rep wouldn't give me the manufacturer or version of the SSDs but she did say that they supported TRIM after she put me on hold. So it looks like it will probably be G2 Intels.

    As far as the edge-to-edge display goes, I think it's just one solid piece of glass over everything as opposed to the raised bezel around the edge of the screen. There shouldn't be any difference in screen quality, it's just an aesthetic thing.

    Yeah - you're right. I was going to do the same. Had finally made a decision ,and now, looks like other models are back in the game.

    Yep but the dv6 doesn't have an edge-to-edge display unless you get the touch screen. It is a shame, too, because I would have paid $20-30 more for it. I had the edge-to-edge display on my previous gen dv6 and it looked great.

    i dont think $270 upgrade to SSD is incredibly cheap, remember that 500GB HDD already costs around $100, total SSD cost is nearly $370 with only 1year warranty (of course based on ur warranty plan)

    $270 vs. $350 from newegg.. save $80. And with the $300 coupon that used to exist.. it's pretty free

    At least it's the g2 intel x-25m i don't care if it's 100 dollars less.

    Intel X-25M SSD Gen2
    -Higher sequential read/write speeds
    -Higher random access IOPS
    -Faster Drive that doesn't stutter.

    By "up there" do you mean unbearably so? If I play games for an hour or two, would my palm burn/become quite sweaty? Cause one big reason I am getting this is portable gaming.

    No mine hasn't shipped yet, maybe it's the vacation days in USA, but eh, I can wait... as long as it ships before the promised date.

    My build:

    HP Pavilion dv6t Select Edition customizable Notebook PC

    * • Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
    * • Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-450M Dual Core processor (2.40GHz, 3MB L3 Cache)with Turbo Boost up to 2.66 GHz
    * • FREE Upgrade to 6GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
    * • 160GB (Solid State Drive Flash Module)
    * • 1GB ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) HD 5650 switchable graphics
    * • 15.6" diagonal High Definition LED HP Brightview Widescreen Display (1366x768)
    * • No TouchScreen (includes HP TrueVision Webcam)
    * • LightScribe SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-RW with Double Layer Support
    * • Intel Wireless-N Card with Bluetooth
    * • Full-size island-style backlit keyboard with HP TrueVision Webcam + Fingerprint Reader
    * • 50% OFF! One 6 Cell (standard) and One 9 Cell (over-sized) Lithium Ion Battery
    * • Microsoft(R) Office Starter 2010
    * • $1! SAVE NOW!! Norton Internet Security(TM) 2010 - 15 Month Subscription (activation required)
    * • HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope

    Total: $1166.xx including tax. (I wish I live in Delaware or Oregon because apparently HP doesn't charge tax to those two states)

    I've been fighting with myself between HP Envy 14 or HP dv6tse. Well, with the savings of $450 from 4th of July sale. I've decided to order dv6tse instead.

    Pros
    1. Backlit Keyboard :D
    2. 160GB SSD (I'm assuming it's Intel's SSD since I can't find Samsung 160GB SSD anywhere online)
    3. Both Envy 14 and dv6tse have the same specs that I want, however dv6tse is ALOT cheaper.

    Cons:
    1. Screen resolution is mediocre
    2. No USB 3.0, then I realized only HP Envy 17 has USB 3.0 (I don't care about it that much since I either download or stream my videos, music, software)

    I've purchased the 9-cell battery for $75 but HP dropped it to $60 within 12 hours after I've ordered it. I'll probably return the 9-cell battery if I decided to keep the laptop.

    NOTE: I'll probably return the laptop if BCB goes up to 25% before it ends this month and get HP Envy 14 instead. I still covet HP Envy 14 more.

    Newbie question, but I did not elect the wireless with bluetooth option, but now after researching it looks like something that would b e useful and get more useful over time. Is this something that can be added to the laptop at anytime or is it something that needs to be pre-installed when you purchase it?

    Also, does anyone have experience with the regular standard 6 cell battery? Is it sufficient (3+ hours)? How much of an improvement is the "high capacity"?

    Thanks a lot for answering my amateur questions over the past couple days!

    Hiero, Thanks for checking on that. I just called HP customer rep again to see if I would get the same answer regarding SSD TRIM as you, and yes, I got the same answer. The guy put me on hold and then came back and read straight off a PDF which stated that the SSD supports TRIM.

    Hey, quick question for you or other knowledgeable notebook enthusiasts. Will I be able to run my two, 19 inch screens from this DV6tSE if I want to, one from the VGA port and one from the HDMI port, or will I need to get a display adapter like this if I want to hook up the second screen? Thanks for answer.

    I'm pretty sure it will work, since the 5650 has six independent display controllers so it can handle up to six monitors. Obviously the laptop doesn't have six outputs but that's a separate matter and 3 displays total should be ok.

    Where are you seeing six. From the looks of it, when I switch to the ATI card I can see for outputs I think.

    Here, on the spec sheet:
    ATI Mobility Radeon? HD 5650 GPU Specifications
    I would take it with a grain of salt though. Although the graphics card supports six there is no reason HP couldn't have done something to support less. The rep might well be right that their setup doesn't allow two monitors... the only way to know for sure is for someone who has the laptop already to try it.

    For anyone interested in ordering, now that the $300 coupon is gone, you can still get the 10% HP Academy Pricing. It's available to any students, faculty, or alumni. You just go through the list and pick a school. I seriously doubt they are calling schools to check.

    On the dv6tse I ordered I would have gotten $97.86 off. That is in addition to the $150 instant rebate. When I ordered a couple of days ago I wasn't able to use the Academy pricing in addition to the old $300 coupon on top.

    For me it became uncomfortable to the point you wouldn't want to rest your hand on it. Luckily, for the games I do, I don't need to rest my hand and it was fine just holding my wrist up in a better ergonomic position anyway. ;)

    The speed is the main reason I went with SSD but I'm not going to complain at the lesser temps.

    Blu-Ray drive at this point is a luxury item. there is not much need to store movies on Blu Ray discs anymore since 1)blu ray quality movies are available for download
    2) they are also available for streaming.....

    Heck, I use my Laptop to connect through my TV through HDMI to watch movies.

    Anyone have further problems on GTA 4? I've been running the benchmark at the lowest settings and getting ~6 fps (yes, six), but the CPU and GPU utilisation were nowhere near 100 percent.

    Anytime I encode a video file before burning it to DVD, or play WoW. No idea why the hard drive has to spin up so fast and hot for a video game, but I guess it does. Gets super hot. :(

    Well burning a dvd is going to use your hdd alot to store the compressed file and loading the uncompressed file. And for WoW loading system textures, maps and stuff is going to come straight off the hdd.

    Funny... I have the same exact time periods in regards to the date ordered and the estimated ship date. Yet I haven't received anything from HP.

    Could it be due to the fact that I customized mine with a touchscreen and/or i7?

    Edit: I now see that we have the exact same specs. Which can only mean that you ordered hours earlier before I did, and they're now out of stock (or something even worse). Damn this, due to this wait I've been shunning my social life entirely to stay at home and refresh my order status. Only to find that others in (virtually) the same situation are getting the better end of the stick, and that my order might be delayed until the factory re-stocks.

    Edit #2: After calming myself I realized that I've been lazy and haven't properly congratulated you upon having your Dv6t SE shipped. I hope you have a fast arrival :).

    July 8th here too.

    No touchscreen and no i7, just more RAM and Blu-Ray but I got nothing yet.

    I linked my e-mail to Digsby so it pops up whenever i get new mail, but I'm not expecting anything until tomorrow morning. And I'm getting HP Order page refreshing OCD.

    Gahhh.

    On another related note, I checked shipping times with FedEx from China to CA and the cheapest international shipping option arrives here by Fri (if it was shipped today). Don't know how accurate it is though.

    Damn... I purchased with the "ships in two business days" shipping option.

    Does anyone know how that works?

    It's 11:32 AM in China at the time of this post, Wednesday. If it miraculously ships today, will it arrive tomorrow, or the day after tomorrow?

    Worst of all, if it doesn't start shipping until Thursday or (oh god no) Friday, will the shipping stall until after the weekends?

    If I have to go through another 5-6 days lord smite me now.

    Ordered mine just 25 minutes ago. Very excited for a new PC, my DV2225nr has been a tried and true laptop but its very long in the tooth. Ended up paying 1230.00 after tax. I was upset that the best i5 was the 450m, but everything else is very beefy. I have a to call and see if they can apply a student discount to it, I ordered and forgot they had that.

    Ship date is set for July 15. I will wipe it and put Win7 Ultimate as soon as I get it.
