hey ghost.. let me know how that goes. i'm out of luck because the HP customer service folks did tell me they would resolve it within 24 hours.. shoot! i also sent a scathing e-mail too and said i could have saved a hundred bucks buying this at a store.. so hopefully i can get something for my time writing those e-mails haha

dcghz4 - if it ships out tomorrow from AK and they say one business day.. hopefully.. guess i'll be taking a day off!

also just noticed FedEx removed the estimated delivery date haha guess they couldn't deliver by 4:30pm on today.

The top of the trackpad flexes more than my other one did, but I cant' get it to actually move around in the housing.

FYI to all, I ordered on July 2nd, and got the "it's shipped" message on July 9th, with an estimated delivery of July 15th (this Thursday). We shall see whether that actually comes to pass (and whether my new laptop has some horrible gouge or defect).

How do these temps that I'm currently getting on a 3-4 year old Toshiba Satellite compare to what I should see on the DV6tse with i5-450/ 160 ssd?

Those max temps look really high. The current value temps in the 50-60s seem more reasonable for your CPU.

My DV6tse is finally in Alaska, with an E14 still in production.

Called HP and the rep said they were still 'technically' within the 5-7 day shipping so he wouldn't do anything for me reimbursement wise. It's been stuck in Alaska for 4 days and they won't do anything. So this is my first experience with HP... :(

I used Ice Diamond 7 24 carat. Didn't do too much improvement, i'll give it a couple of weeks.. if it does go any lower I will switch to Artic5, and I will post a instruction next time I do it unless somebody else decides too.

They use thermal pads on two of the chips up top (silver squares), and then paste on where I put on my picture on page 99.

So I noticed when I opened up the bottom plate of my laptop that there are screens over the vent openings. Think removing the screen would improve anything? Also, is there any room inside the laptop to add copper heat sinks? Dunno if they help that much or if there's enough room to add them.

I'll probably keep my i5 machine as I like it a lot. I was just worried about the temps cause everyone said it's abnormal and such lol.

Are you talking about those thick silver mesh screen? I think its suppose to help cover from dust getting in..
I'm playing counter-strike source everything on high.. around 140+fps pretty nice.. and my temps are a steady 70-75c only.

You never know, because it was supposed to arrive today remember? By the looks of it, it won't get here until Friday since it's still in Alaska.

Even if it leaves tomorrow 7:00am, it's a seven hour flight to Memphis so it won't get there until 2:00pm. From 2:00pm, it has to fly to where you live (I'm in Seattle, so that's a five hour flight). Stick transit times in between the flights, as well as sorting at the destination facilities, it'll probably be past delivery time before it is ready for delivery.

I'm still going to call them tomorrow to see if I can get a 50% off on a printer I wanted. Never took advantage of the deal when I purchased the laptop.

I'm still hoping it gets here Thursday. Through all out misfortunes with delays maybe we'll get a silver lining or a discount off a printer for you hawc. I won't be able to fully work on the computer until this weekend anyway. Not a computer smarts as folks here so it will take me a bit more time haha. I'm just glad no more calling hp to complain. Way too tiring.

Anyone else having REALLY SLOW loading times (like 2-3 minutes) in BC2? I installed the latest ATI drivers on top of HP's ATI drivers which seemed to have gotten it successfully installed and I run BC2 in DirectX 9 so it should not be the bug with loading times.

I know it's an 5400 RPM drive but should it really be this slow? Might just try temporarily installing my Intel G2 from my desktop to see if there is any difference in BC2 otherwise something else seems to be wrong.

Should I back everything up before doing a clean reinstall? I mean I know where to get the drivers and all, and I don't want the bloatware, but is there anything important I should keep?

Got mine ordered with the specs in my sig. Expected build date is the 22nd. When can I expect to have it in my possession? I would like to have it on the 27th at the latest, as I am leaving on the 28th for a few days.

I played bfbc2 for about an hour now, single player campaign cause I was too lazy to open up ports. Game runs great. Hwmonitor topped out at 90*c and as for the long load times, you should try to get a ssd. My load times are near instant and the loads from saves [from dying] are instant too. Guess this ones a keeper despite running kinda hot lol.

Of course, I only noticed slow-downs when there were tons of things blowing up and the like.

Also, how the heck do you install the 10.6 drivers? Do I extract the amd stuff into the hp driver folder and install it that way?

I just installed it like any other driver, as far as I know the HP-version of the ATI drivers is just a different version and then they have added switchable graphics option so only the driver gets replaced. I will double-check when I get home from work that it actually got installed, but I am able to change graphics card so either it was successfully installed with no negative effects or it installed incorrectly and I haven't noticed it..

I am having a hard time deciding for a good SSD-drive, 160 gb would be a good size but the only one that is good at that size is Intel G2, but the SSD with Sandforce-controller is a lot better and the price on the Intel has not gone down. Can get a Corsair Force 120 GB for like $350 while the Intel is like $470.

It's why I got the SSD upgrade from HP on my Dv6t. They want $270 for the upgrade, and it's an Intel X-25m G2 drive. :)

    Welcome to Sweden.

Anyway, compared the SSD's again and on real-life testing (i.e. starting applications, booting up and games) the Intel G2 still seems to be the best drive so will probably buy a 160 GB next month.

Hey guys, so I decided to order an envy 14 using the 30% bing cash back, and will soon be returning my dv6tse. However, I did just get my Dv6tse today, can you guys confirm that I can open the box and try the laptop out and still get a full refund return in a couple days. If so I'd be more than happy to post some pics, videos, stats for you all on it. Thanks

I think I found one drawback for installing newer ATI drivers, my brightness buttons stopped working, I am not 100% sure it is due to the drivers (probably broken) but I won't need them. Brightness still changes when I put it on battery so no worries there.

You can definitely open it up and still return it with no restocking fee and they always pay shipping. As long as it is within 21 days you do not have to even give a reason.

My dv6t:se's fan been going a little weird lately. In temps of 50-55 degrees, the fan is whirring at a rate that gets annoying in a silent room. Is this normal, and is there a way I can adjust it?

Yea it does say that for me. It says some thing like "shipment exception". My guess is the plane had already left after the shipment cleared customs. I'd wait to see if there is any updates today. OR maybe you can call Fedex to find out what is holding it up.
I still plan to complain to HP's customer service after I receive it. I've ordered from Toshiba and dell before and never has had this problem.

I guess i write better scathing e-mails than talking on the phone. haha good luck though.. try the e-mail thing too.. took three e-mails but it worked.

If I do that, I dont think I'll be able to get the free printer once i threaten them with refund. That guy tried to offer me 30 dollars two days ago but i declined because 30 dollars just wouldn't change anything. But i will try the email thing though. Other people reported they got as much as 100 dollars.

Wow, FedEx attempted to deliver my dv6tse today but I wasn't here to sign. Looks like I'll be getting it tomorrow.

Crazy that it sat in Shanghai for 4 days according to FedEx, and then after that took one day to be delivered to my front door. It went China, AK, IN, then NC.

Ordered July 9, delivered July 14.

Hey ProMed, where are you located? Mine was also shipped on the 9th (that's when I got the "shipped" email anyway--it really didn't leave Shanghai till this week), but my estimated delivery isn't till tomorrow. I'm in Portland, Oregon.
