For those of you looking for the Finger Print scanner driver. HP refers to it as a "Valitity Sensor". If an HP search does not pull it up. You could try Google.com.

Just got mine as well. Morx is right, the touchpad has a little plastic knocking sound to it. But it's not because of the hard drive, because I have a 500GB HDD and it still makes the noise. Otherwise, so far so good.

Edit 1: I notice that there's a little dip in the keyboard around keys 3, 4, E, and R. Can anyone confirm that?

    Edit 2: Temperatures

Edit 3: The trackpad is rubbish.

Edit 4: Left palm rest is getting a little warm with barely any use.

Edit 5: The optical drive is extremely flimsy when popped out.

Edit 6: High pitch noise confirmed. It's the fan, and it's a lubrication issue because it's new. Let it run for a few minutes and it disappears.

I don't think that will ever happen. If it did what would be the point of the ENVY line?

does anyone know how much of a difference there is between the intel(R) Core(TM) i7-720QM Quad Core processor (1.6GHz, 6MB L3 Cache) with Turbo Boost up to 2.8 GHz in the dv6t
and the AMD Phenom(TM) II Quad-Core Mobile Processor N930 (2.0GHz, 2MB L2 Cache) from the dv6z. ive been looking at both models and that seems the be the only thing that's different between the two

I just received my hp pavillon select. there was software on it, i had to format my hard drive and install a clean MS 7 ULtimate version. Now my problem is that it doesnt want to install my TUrbo boost driver. It says my computer do not meet requirements or something like that. I wonder if it is because its a 64 bit driver.

I'm in the process of a clean reinstall. Did you have to manually install all drivers? I remember that when I did clean reinstalls for my desktop, it found drivers automatically.

Edit 1: I'm running into the same problem.

Edit 2: Drivers are all here http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=4063&lc=en&cc=uk&dlc=en&sw_lang=&product=4252478#N786

In lightly threads apps the i7 destroys it but in heavily threaded ones (4+ threads) the difference ranges from 10-30%.

I'm beginning to like the functions, but it feels cheap. The finish gets sticky so I might end up coating it with a very thin layer of wax. Also, there's a slight rattle when you tap on it.

The touch pad isn't bad. I just use a Razer Orochi I bought when I had the m11x. I like it a lot with it's compact size and all.

    And here she be!

I thought there was a different FF XIV benchmark with a floating island or something? I guess the score I got falls in to the category of Low Performance lol.

Also, I benched Just Cause 2, but without v-sync on it has this weird slow and fast rendering pace. Not sure what's up with that. I just play with v-sync on and it runs at a solid 30-35 fps unless there are a ton of explosions. Also enjoying Episodes from Liberty City with this laptop.

    @Kiitens,
I love TAEASGJ and Tom Goes to the Mayor. I was pretty sad when Richard Dunn passed away :(

As far as the drivers, I got all of my drivers right from the drivers thread here on these forums. The thread author keeps it up to date, and everyone of them has worked just fine.

Edit: Oh, and hawc, the flex around those keys isn't any different than around other keys, so not sure. It flexes, but I go over to say the other side of the keyboard, and the same flex happens. It's not more around the 3,4,e,r keys at all.

Thats quite a processor! Have you considered transferring that upgrade to an SSD? From what I hear SSD Cards boost performance more than a processor upgrade does.

edit: haha just saw your post in the ENVY 14 thread :p

No it's not the flexing. The keyboard itself isn't flat to begin with, and there's a dent around the 3, 4, E, and R keys.

They keyboard itself is mounted higher around the 1, 2, Q, and W keys, so essentially there's a small bulge. It's really no big deal, but it's a slight annoyance.

I had to drive to the local fedex facility in the middle of LA. Loving this laptop, except for the awkward hot cold wrist rests. Touchpad - we'll see in a couple days since I currently have the luxury of my G5.

    Temperatures, however, are awesome.

Lol. Yeah, I had both of these windows opened in tabs and posted in the wrong one. I was considering the Envy 14 too, but I had the opportunity to see both on display at Best Buy, and I like the DV6T much better, despite the screen quality difference, which I don't even mind. It's also a little too small for me. I don't really see why it's so much more expensive, when it doesn't seem that much different.. besides a few things. I was considering the SSD too, actually. I've heard great things about them but I didn't think it was really worth it, I haven't looked into SSDs much so my knowledge on them is really limited. Think anybody can school me on this topic? :)

Yeah, I did. I should tell you though, that I'm from Canada. But yeah, I went into the store today.. and there it was, right beside the Envy 17. I didn't even think I'd find it there. It kind of surprised me. I don't remember the specs.. but I know it had the 1600 x 900 screen resolution.

    wow lucky. And regarding SSD's.

"A solid-state drive (SSD) is a data storage device that uses solid-state memory to store persistent data. SSDs are distinguished from traditional hard disk drives (HDDs), which are electromechanical devices containing spinning disks and movable read/write heads. SSDs, in contrast, use microchips, and contain no moving parts. Compared to traditional HDDs, SSDs are typically less susceptible to physical shock, quieter, and have lower access time and latency. SSDs use the same interface as hard disk drives, thus easily replacing them in most applications."

pretty much all you need to know.

Does anyone else have an optical drive on their dv6tse that clicks? mine's just a little lose and it clicks up and down when closed, i think because the seams are just slightly off on that part of the casing. very minor gripe, but just wondering. everything else is great.

Also, is there any truth to the idea that you should run down your new lithium-ion battery to empty when you first get it because it increases battery life in the long run?

I'm amazed an E14 was at a best buy already, even more so that it was 1600x900. Several guys from Canada on here have been upset that they only had the option for 1366x768 on the E14.

Thanks! But I do understand the basics, I think I might just stick with the traditional hard drive, it drives the cost up by a lot and I'm not sure if it's worth it. Hmm, I know the Envy is HP's premium line, but I don't see much difference between them and these DVs. What are some of the significant differences that drive up their cost? I also didn't really like the material and feel of it.. it's kind of weird feeling to me.

The ENVYS in the states are 1099 thats why Im kinda considering one. I want it because of the better build quality (feels more solid), better screen, better battery* and portability. However, it might end up costing too much, thats why Im also researching the dv6tse.

    Doesn't sound good.

I really like this laptop but I would easily have gotten a Envy 14 if I could get the same price for it here in Sweden as you get in the US.

But then again there still seems to be a few issues with the E14 after checking the thread and it's suppose to be HP's premium model.

Played a few source games and they run very good, almost constant 60 fps in Left 4 Dead 2 and 80-100 in Day of Defeat Source on high settings.
Temperatures CPU were at around 65*C and GPU around the same. Oh right, played it on my external screen with has 1920x1080 resolution.

An SSD is the single most noticeable speed upgrade you can do for your computer over anything else.

    Think of it this way...

A normal hard drive, per sey is like standing on a football field, and having to run a message to your friend on the other side.

Having an SSD, is like having to send that same message, but you just call the dude.

Just check on my laptop, and it has big read letters saying clearence delay   I cannot believe this. How long should I expect to be delayed? It had a delievery of July 20th, but I guess since HP dropped the *$*%ing ball I will have to go without.

First laptop I order from HP and it gets delayed.

Any alternatives to ordering this directly from HP? Those shipping problems are not something I think I want to deal with right now. Do you guys think the 5470 will be good enough for light gaming and photoshop?

I am considering this one. http://www.amazon.com/Pavilion-Sele...4?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1279258271&sr=1-4 what do you guys think? I don't really play games, but I want to get into graphic design so I guess the graphics card should be decent, plus if it has a blu ray player I would like for it to be powerful enough to ouput 1080p movies on an external monitor without any issues or stuttering.

    Any advice?

    Another alternative is this http://www.amazon.com/HP-Pavilion-dv6-3050us-15-6-Inch-Laptop/dp/tech-data/B003KN3IHG/ref=de_a_smtd

which would you choose? the latter has no backlit keyboard though, but it does have the better graphics and the AMD CPU.

You got delayed? I figured they sorted it out with our debacle.

For us it took four days, your time may vary. Considering how they screwed up on us and fixed it, most likely less for you.

sorry to hear man.. it took ours from July 9-July 14th, but the good thing is that it took only one business day to get from AK to California for me.

I had to drive down to FedEx today because i missed the delivery this afternoon. Worth the wait.. finished removing all the unnecessary programs and just adding stuff here and there. It's a nice looking computer, but still getting used to Win7.

    So 45C idle.

Starting up BC2, however, CPU and GPU jumps up to 100% CPU usage. Temps are relatively good, though it's weird that the CPU heats more than the GPU.

That looks really nice. I'm considering taking it apart to fix the keyboard. My guess there is a wire stuck under the keyboard preventing it from being completely flat. Does anyone have a step by step guide on how to take apart the laptop? And would doing so void the warranty?

Never took apart the laptop but there was that one person who deicded to open his laptop to fix his heat issue, he could probably point you i nthe right direction.

On another note, for those of you who want to map pointless keys, download EventGhost. You can map the stupid question mark key on the top left to something like opening your drive tray (though closing is still manual). It overrides the original key function so you don't have to mess with files and such. Useful for quick key button on the left. Still working, however, on making the swish mark to alt-tab/

    @Fatpigs,
I think BFBC2 heats up the cpu more because it stresses the cpu more than the gpu.

This is from heavy web browsing, for like 2 hours. And then like a bit of hulu and then just messing with windows.
Was all on battery but I had a custom plan so it doesnt underclock the cpu or anything like that. Usb and wifi were on
power management though and screen was on the second to lowest brightness.

Oh and the Touchscreen is f***** amazing.

Will post screens later from playing codmwf2 on all high settings, on ac plug.

I am already in love with this laptop, haven't started my desktop which has i5 750, 5870 and a Intel SSD since I got the laptop because I can do everything with it while making the ambient temperature in my room like 5*C lower since it's doesn't use as much power.

Only thing I am missing is the SSD-speed but will buy one next month.
