I remember I stepped on my power brick and it was freakin hot. Also, my past few bfbc2 / alien swarm sessions left me at 97-99*c...but my palm rest / keys never got hot. What's up with that lol.
-
-
Speaking of power bricks, I discovered mine was trapped between my backpack and my blanket. Way hotter than 100 -
-
Well apparently my brick is running very cool now, some "break in" time maybe?
Making recovery disk right now, and although my palm rest is warm, it is nothing compared to my netbook which I am used to
After a fresh install I will test it out and see how hot the gaming sessions are o.o -

-
IMO go for the i5 450M
-
I've been using mines for a few hours and its been great How do i change the trackpad settings? I dont want movement to be detected on where the left and right clicks are
-
-
-
Which way should I update the video driver? From HP's website or from the ATI website?
-
I'm creating recovery disks now, how can I safely delete the recovery partition and free up that room? I have the SSD so space is a commodity.
-
Can you swap out the 500 gig 7200RPM hard drive with a Intel SSD (same model as the upgrade) ???
-
Periformwow yes
Jakej if you reformat the SSD you might be able to do it
Austerior you should update through hp for now I believe there's a thread with the latest dls for the video card.. Check first page..
For the processor, it's up to you guys but if you are on a budget go for i5 450m it has double the bus speed of i5 520m or of the i5 540m..
Only thing is the lower clock speed which isn't a prob with turbo boost
Btw I got mine today can't wait to test itt -
Welp, I played Bfbc2 for about 30 minutes and then alien swarm for about 1 hour and 30 minutes and my computer hit 94*c, but my keyboard and palm rest never even got warm. Kinda cool, but kinda scary.
Oh man...I hit 101... -
-
-
What is the best way to deal with the small storage of a SSD? I have only 93gb free and I just got this machine, a couple movies and games will have that filling up in no time.
-
Just programs you use. Store movies, music, pictures on an external drive.
-
I was just wondering, the HP Envy 14 has the Beats Audio feature.. is it much better than the audio quality of the DV6T?
-
-
-
Sound on the Dv6tse is a little lacking in the bass, but thats to be expected since it's a laptop. but oh well, hook up some nice headphones or a headset if you're playing a game.

Id count on 2 weeks for the whole process.
But on the subject of sound, I don't have any on my computer anymore? I don't know what happened, it worked this morning but not now? -
Just a heads up!
The $200 coupon is expired due to usage. You can still call in to order and it is possible to get a $150 internal coupon and $50 Back credit from a manager to show up on your Credit Card about a week later... I am just going to wait for the next coupon and pray they switch back to the 6GB RAM and get rid of that Blu Ray -
It's a good thing I didn't hesitate too long before buying today.
-
-
Ugh, just great. I was planning to order the dv6zse in two days.
-
Coupons have been coming out like hotcakes, I wouldn't be surprised if another came out shortly. On another note, I fixed my audio. Must have been something I deleted in REVO, but I just did a system restore and it fixed it. Also, my computer boots up in approx 12 seconds now.

How to get AWESOME SOUND
Follow those instructions with a little change for our dv6tse model (it was originally intended for envy 14 users)
First to get to the Sound setting go to control panel and for view select large icons so you can see the Sound icon..
When he mentions tone control tab go to Advanced tab in dv6tse model and click on 24 bit sound and keep on going with the directions
if anyone needs help let me know but these changes have a dramatic effect on the sound produced from dv6tse... i currently am in love with this
If you follow my directions, you will have better speakers than the current Envy 14.. i did the changes on mines and hte sound is gushing forth and roaring, speakers are speakers its how you adjust them, hp wouldn't make speakers that can't make sound lol
The thing is Envy 14's beats is only a software change and no physical speaker change.. so the laptops have same speaker to my understanding or rather from my experience
ok next touchpad issues..
You can easily access synaptics panel by clicking on show hidden icons in the system tray (bottom right corner) and clicking on synaptics then go to Wheel tab and set vertical scrolling to "1" line at a time default is 3 lines thats why its not smooth but if you use 2 fingers it has alot of advantages and you can remove 1.. whatever its easier to get used to.. -
Is it worth spending 20 dollars on Recovery disks from HP or should I just make them myself when Im doing a clean install? Would they automatically remove the recovery partition from the computer?
-
no kiiteens i had the same debacle i ended up saving my self hte money.. the truth is if you customize it like with touchscreen i highly doubt hp's own recovery disks will be customized to your selections and will ahve drivers like for touchscreen.. so for that safety i just did it myself and saved money and possible huge problem haha

Dammit I missed the coupon deal as well. However I've been following this for awhile and every time a coupon goes out another one appears pretty shortly after, so have no fear everyone. I'm trying to get to this before August 19th or so since I'm going off to college then, but I have confidence a coupon will appear and I'll get it.
And I wish they hadn't added the Blu-Ray instead of the 6GB of RAM too... -
So I'm experimenting with cooling tricks / solutions. This new one I'm testing has me at mid 30's while browsing, youtubing, listening to music, and playing a video. This is with the recommended power plan and using the computer on my chest.
For some reason, my last experiment, the laptop would always warm up when it was propped up in the back. Weird stuff. -
-
I can only hear fan noise when I run programs like BFBC2. Otherwise, I don't hear anything. When I idle, sometimes I don't hear anything at all. And no high frequency noises or electronic hums and stuff like that. I do drive a loud car so that might have affected my hearing lol.
-
Though Bad Company 2 does push up the CPU and GPU to 100% so I'm not surprised. When it does run at max, it's pretty noisy, but the game tends to block it out. -
i have i5 450m and after using it for more than 6+ no cpu whine...
-
Oh sweet...my idle is 28*c now, but my core#2 temp is 10 degrees higher. What's the deal with that lol.
-
After a clean install I can't seem to make the volume up and down keys on the keyboard to show the animations. Does anyone know how to enable that? The keys work it's just there are no animations on the middle of the screen. And also does hyperthreading work without any drivers?
-
Isn't that a ridiculous change from your old temp to your current temp with just that change? -
Austerior use program called 3RVX to get skinnable volume controls
It's a free software read abt it and search
Google for download

Basically, what I did is force AS5 into the gaps where the heat pipe and heat sink meet on the cpu/gpu's. I read something about another laptop where the heat pipe only makes minimal contact with the sink and the guy forced some silver into the gaps. I think it makes a difference? Need moar testz.
But, it is definitely running a lot cooler than when I first got it. Also, my last weeks test was sticking sticky heat sink fins on the cpu/gpu heat sinks as an additional passive cooling method. It kinda worked in the fact that my palm rest and keyboard never got hot warm, but it also made the machine run a bit hotter as per hwmonitor's temps. -
Hi,
I'm hoping you guys can help me out here. I just purchased a HP DV6T SE w/ SSD, COre i5 540M 2.80 w/ turbo boost. 6gb of Ram.
I am running CPUID Hardware Monitor and the "MAX" core 0 and core 1 temp I get when playing world of warcraft along w/ other multi-tasking is between 87c and 93c. I have not seen anything higher than 93c (to date).
I contacted HP and got two different opinions. The online agent said "send it in for repair," the on-phone tech contacted intel and intel basically said, if it doesn't reach 105c (damage point) it was fine, that they didn't have a "RECOMMENDED" level.
I need your help: Is there some place I can find the "AVERAGE" temp for this PC. Is anyone else having issues with this? The processor is not under the palm area so I don't feel the laptop getting warm; but, the fan does get noisy when gaming. Is my laptop defective?
I would REALLY apprecaite your opinion. -
Some people have said as long as it doesn't hit 105*c it's ok. Mine hits 90's when playing bfbc2 so...I'm not scared.
-
Thanks -
My computer idles at 43 degrees right now, during some downloading and general internet use it maxed out at 49 degrees.
