I know this is self-advertisement, but I thought it might help anyone looking for a good deal on this notebook. Plus, you'll get it in days, rather than in weeks. My dad follows this thread (it's where he got the idea for the gift) and suggested I post it here.

Anyway, some quick info:

-Barely used, owned for less than a week. I consider it a brand new, factory condition item.

-Reinstalled Windows to remove bloatware and to ensure my privacy is protected.

-Absolutely no defects, unlike some other models. No flex. Temps idle at around 40-45, fan noise is whisper quiet unless you're playing a demanding game.

-Ships in original box, with all manuals, warranty info., etc.

-Wiped down with microfiber cloth, no smudges, scratches, blemishes or any damage whatsoever.

-Insanely fast with the i5 540m and SSD

 

My laptop just entered production, and a week early at that! That means it should be here in a week or so, right?

CityPig how do you see if it has entered production....my order number isnt reflecting anything nor does it even show up? Does it not show up until it enters production?

 

Well.............i called HP to check on the status of my order and was told their website is down ....and their management is telling the reps to tell people to call back later....im still in the dark..lol So they cant even check on Order status or do any tracking on its progress.

 

Cool - I ordered the machines with the hi-cap 6 cell, anything around 4 hours is fine. Good info in the guide.

 

Well that's interesting. The site works fine for me. I just checked it again, in fact.

Though, it does still say "Order in production." I wonder how long they take with each laptop. Well, I actually hope they take a very good amount of time to make sure it's flawless. School starts Thursday, so the last thing I need is to go another two weeks without this laptop.

Hey, I ordered mine Friday night as well! Yesterday I think it said "order dropped to factory," today it says "order in production."

I'm kinda wishing I got the Envy 15, though, for the better screen and for gaming... But this has better battery life and a SSD (which I can't afford on the Envy). I checked out the screen in stores, and it seemed ok, but I hope it doesn't become a problem to me with elongated use.

 

Well, don't get your hopes too high. From research, it seems that HP's estimated ship date is usually very accurate.

 

Ive never had any problems playing counter-strike source until yesterday.. When im playing about 15 minutes in my screen just goes blank, or the screen distorts to all lines. I have to hard shut down my computer... Anyone know whats going on? My GPU idle is at 57c on desk, no cooler. I have crappy temps

So who's getting laptop bookbags for college link me to what you guys are getting

 

Need serioues help here guys... my screen is just black for now on.. I tried putting an external on but its just all lines and scribbles.. I took apart my laptop to see whats up but I cant figure it out, now its stuck in repair process with my screen all distorted... Sometimes when I hard shut it down and turn it back on it goes to normal for about 10 seconds and then bam, my screen goes blank.. Any ideas!?!?!?!

 

Update to latest HP driver, it seems you've installed ATI's 10.7 drivers or something, as latest driver from HP fixes blanking out of screen. Boot into safe mode or something and roll back your graphics drivers. Most importantly don't freak out, try to determine cause of problem.

You mentioned scribbles and lines.. hmm shutdown laptop then take out battery and unplug from AC power, and hold power button for 30 sec to 1min this should reset internal electronics, then proceed to plug in power or battery and turn it on.

For those of you interested...updating the BIOS and ACPI thermal control driver aided in fixing my temperature problem. These are the instructions that were given to me:

 

What kind of heat issues were you having? Excessive over heating? And do you know what version bios version it is?

 

How long has the "Order in production" message generally stayed for you guys anyway?

 

I have the same bios, still crappy temp. I will put artic silver 5 on next week. Right now I have ice diamond 7 and its crap.

 

It wasn't overheating per-se, but it was warmer than I would have liked (mid 70s while web browsing). I think I updated it to v9 or something (not on it right now) and it brought down the temps while web browsing to mid-low 60s with a maximum of 83 CPU/78 GPU while gaming.

 

Finally pulled the trigger! I have been watching this computer for a while but just recently got the money. Got some long weeks of awaiting ahead of me.

I am coming from a Gateway P7805u
also a great laptop for the price but man its a pain to carry to class. Ill miss the 1920x1200 but 11lbs not including the power brick... will soon be my hackintosh.

 

aside from battery life, any other particular reason why most of you are going with the Intel i5 over the i7? Are there any known issues with this laptop and the i7? Or are you just going with the i5 to keep the price at a certain range?

 

Price and battery life are the primary reasons.

 

Battery life, heat, price, and the fact that outside of a few tasks I really wouldn't notice the faster CPU much more.

 

Damn, though it finally left china, delivery has been pushed back till Friday. Now I'm nervous I won't have it till after the weekend
