does anyone know the average time it takes from order to delivery with the free shipping option? i'm going to place my order tomorrow. I know it varies, but I'm hoping to get it by the following weekend

Method wrote: Skione check your shipment info. Since you have the same estimated delivery date and time, wer'e probably on the same shipment.
Yep!!! It arrived in ANC at 5:16pm and is showing "In Transit" at 6:28pm.....I'm assuming that it means its on a jet out of ANC and heading my way!
One can only hope..... -
MicGoogle wrote: Skione in my sig, theres a link to dv6tse guide in it there should be dimensions of this laptop
Thx MicG~ Ill check it out..... -
MicG~ No Dice...I see the general laptop dimensions, but I need the exact and I mean exact dimensions of the Touchscreen Screen as I ordered the Viewguard for the 15.6 as Cazper37 did and he says its too small...he's trying the 16" and will let us know....

I always don't use the included HDD in all my lappy's. I always create a Ghost image of the HDD then copy the image to my spare HDD's right before an initial system boot-up.
I notice that since I got this lappy, the warranty date in my BIOS is still 00/00/0000. Am I correct in assuming that it's the stock hard drive that causes the warranty date in the BIOS to change during the initial system boot-up?
Any ideas? -

... Though, my mom paid for about a third of the cost, so I might not even be allowed to return it! xD -
Thought i should let my fellow super hyped dv6tse owners know, on the HP Drivers thread:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-...3-dv7-gen-4-select-edition-envy-17-intel.html
There are now new Synaptics Touchpad drivers, ati mobility 5650 update, DigitalPersona Fingerprint reader and software update, and new IDT Audio driver (seems like they release a new version of IDT every week lol), so do update ;D
If i had to get a second choice it would be a deadlock between HP Envy 14 and HP Dm4t as both have equally amount of bads and good. I think i might lean toward dm4t just because battery life is awesome on that.
After owning it for 21+ days now only flaw i can say is sometimes fingerprint reader doesnt wake up as fast, and when you hibernate the laptop for 24hours and turn it back on the fingerprint reader doesnt wake up i had to manually type in pass and when windows loaded it turned on, then though my wifi was on internet wasnt working i guess hibernation is bad as most devices other than windows have trouble waking up LOL. -
-
Yeah my second choice is the Envy 15 for the better screen and better graphics (mainly for gaming). And it's thinner and lighter. The reason I didn't get it was because I wasn't sure there would be a better coupon for the dv6tse anytime soon, so I ordered it, and due to the coupon got a SSD. I don't do much with big files, so the SSD is mainly helpful for starting up and loading apps. I'm not sure if I'd rather have the SSD of the dv6tse or the 1080p screen on the Envy 15, especially since I'm not sure if the 5650 will last long enough for gaming as well.
-
Either way, I'm going to build a gaming desktop next summer, so future-proofing isn't a huge concern.
And now, to bed, I go! Here's hoping I'll wake up to find a tracking number! -
Personally, I don't use my optical drive much, so it's not a big deal to me. A backlit keyboard would be nice, but it isn't necessary for me. And I wish there were switchable graphics for the better graphics cards, but I'd rather have the better gaming over the switchable graphics, since I'm worried about the 5650 holding up in the future.
The Envy 15 is at the top end of my budget, and would be over it without the academic discount. That's part of the reason I ordered the dv6tse first, and why I'm hesitant to switch.
Have fun building your gaming desktop! Right now desktops aren't practical to me, but I'd like to try to build one sometime. I haven't ever done anything like that, as I just recently started getting into computers. -
However, I got a problem with wake up on lid opening for s3. Haven't figure it out, how to turn that feature off on windows.
Its been annoying me that it wakes up every little jerk.
ehh, I recommend not to always update drivers so often unless you got a problem with it. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." -
Well ive had the laptop up and running for a few hours now. It seems really fast in the day to day operations. i haven't gotten sc2 up and running yet so i can't comment on gaming performace. two things that bug me, one, i can't get the synaptics device thing to stop popping up everytime i restart the computer even though i have it disabled so i can just use my mouse. and two, even though i changed the option in the bios to turn off fan always on, it won't go off. i'm on power savings settings, on onboard video and i'm in a basement in wisconsin. its perfect down here but the fan is still running at a low setting. it does kick in more than i'd like just downloading stuff. thats really my only big complaint. left side of keyboard is warmer than the right. just a heads up on that one.

And since I'm in a good mood aswell, I'll return the favor
EDIT: Ok umm I think I did. I'm still pretty new to this forum stuff though, so I'm not sure. -
Falco i totally agree! However i only update after reading the release notes, and most times heck they're worth noting when they mention like "fixes sudden turn off and destroys gpu overheating" LOL maybe that was a overstatement but its good to be aware i didn't update everything justinw listed but only things i use often as i don't want them breaking. Also be assured those listed are not bleeding edge releases, but stable releases so they're tested and tried by HP themselves.
On another news, for those who have the touchscreen a game i've been playing lately that i use the touchscreen for alot is Minions by Casual Collective heres the link:
The Casual Collective - Social Gaming & Casual Networking
Great game with touchscreen, i've been using touchscreen more and more because of this game and as a result being more comfortable to tap my finger on screen.
While i'm still up i should note i've discovered bugs with HP's QuickWeb and am pressing the developer to releases fixes, so join me in voting this question higher on the developer's list to-do things as they're the only bugs with this hp dv6tse's quickweb. Here's the link:
Fix Bug on HP's Pavilion Quick Web
It took me a LONG time to find that forum as HP has no software support or download for quickweb, so tune into that forum next time you want something on quickweb fixed
Have a fantastic great night and sleep tight with your new laptopsss -
YEEEEEESSSSSSSSS!!!! It just shipped about five minutes ago!
I'm going to check the tracking now. I'm so excited!
EDIT: Estimated delivery is Monday. Absolutely perfect!
... Well, I guess it's more accurate to say that it's awaiting shipment, but that's better than nothing. :X Hopefully it's picked up today. -
Well ive noticed 2 issues, both of which I think I have solved already. 1. Being a minor one (I hope) Let my new lappy start downloading SC2 so I left the computer sit for 20-30 minutes before I checked back in with it. Came back and noticed a blue screen restart. Hmm... never seen that with Windows 7 before. My fix? I believe was in the power settings. I believe with having an SSD hard drive, if you set your power profile to "turn off" the HD after inactivity, it will screw up your system. This is my first encounter with an SSD, so someone please tell me if I'm wrong. I tried switching that setting and was able to run SC2 and let it be for 90 min with no issues, so problem 1 I think is fixed.
Number 2, and this was an annoying one but I believe I've fixed it as well. One of the issues I mentioned in my last post was that the fan continuously ran, even when idle with low temps (CPU temps were running at 82 degrees F using CPUID) This bugged me since I wanted it dead silent when just surfing the internet. I thought changing the setting "fan always on" in the BIOS would fix it. I tried both settings to no avail. Today, right before work, I tried messing with more power settings and found one that affected it. I'm not at my laptop, so forgive me if this isn't worded correctly, but in the advanced options of the power settings, there should be a setting for cooling with two options: Passive and active. I figured passive would be the right setting. I was wrong. I set to active and the fan turned off. I'll have to check it more once I get home, but I think I figured that out. So now I'm very happy.
On a side note, for battery users, and this is non-scientific of course, but with my 9 cell battery, I was able to use it for 2 and 1/2 hours last night and it only got down to 52 percent. This was with general internet surfing, downloading windows updates, and starting/restarting the computer multiple times. Was using onboard video and brightness at 55 percent. So not too shabby. -
- i'm not sure why laptop vendors are going with the lower resolution. One of my old laptops is a 15.4" with 1680x1050, which admittedly was an upgraded option at the time, but now the standard and/or non-upgradable is WXGA (1366?x768) for laptops 15.4" and under..., so. I heard that the lower resolutions are cheaper, there is a shortage of LED screens, and that people cannot readily discern the difference at that screen size (kind of like the 720p v. 1080p for 42" or smaller TVs), but i dunno. I mean, I can tell the difference, and the extra scrolling is kind of a pain. Who knows, maybe webpage designers will make the pictures/layout/etc more friendly to WXGA in the future? Probably not though, since the current (i believe) standard for standalone monitors is 1920x1080ish. meh, my 2 cents.

I just saw the new $200 off $1249 stackable - but it's not working for me. Any guesses? Thank you,
-
^ It's not working for me either. I called HP and tried to get the code working, but they told me the notebook had to be configured over $1249 after the $150 instant rebate. Which is a joke because I have proof that it worked before the rebate. Trying to explain myself to these people is a lost cause. I'll just wait for another coupon to come out, but I'm pretty disappointed.

I think the coupon might have simply expired or reached its maximum number of uses. I believe this might be the case because I just configured a DV6TSE that came out to be $1329.99 after the $150 off and the coupon still did not work.
This is the correct coupon, right? NBH719469 -
My order was picked up a couple of hours ago.
Of course, it was after the cut-off time, but I knew that already. I'm just happy it's in transit.

Wow. Dell recently refreshed their studio XPS 16, and I can now get one with an i5 540m, 1GB ATI 5730 and a 1600x900 screen for 1149 ($10 more than I paid for my dv6tse). HOWEVER it does not come with bluetooth, the base hard drive is 320 gb 7200 rpm whereas I was able to get a 160gb ssd in my build, 4gb of RAM, and has lower battery life (I think).

do u all know when usually HP releases new coupons?
-
MethodtotheMadness Notebook Evangelist
-
so tmrw or after the 29th we should see new coupons?
-
Well Method it doesn't look promising.... Has yours cleared customs in Anc yet? Mine arrived there at 1:15 pm yesterday(25th) and is showing " in transit" but I haven't seen anything relating to a "release" from customs so I find a "Delivery by 10:30 am tomorrow (27th) unlikely.

Aug 26, 2010 6:17 PM - In transit - ANCHORAGE, AK - Package available for clearance
Aug 25, 2010 6:26 PM - In transit - ANCHORAGE, AK
Aug 25, 2010 5:16 PM - Arrived at FedEx location - ANCHORAGE, AK
Unless it goes through clearance, hops on a plane, and gets to New York all in about 12 hours from now, theres no way its comming tomorrow. -
-
-
5-7 days without clearance. Faster if Fedex pickups happen quicker.
Sorry about those clearance delays, though if you didn't pay for 2 day shipping you shouldn't be calling HP, it's just wasted time -
I ordered mine last Friday night, and the estimated ship date was August 31, but it just shipped today. Now the estimated delivery date is August 31. -
-
skione, a little late, I apologize. At least I don't think I answered your question.
I returned the laptop with the 7200rpm drive. Kept the SSD. I have an external hard drive that works just fine for storage, so I don't mind the smaller size of the SSD. That laptop also had 6gb compared to 4gb of RAM, so overall it is just a faster machine. Basically traded the bluray drive, for the SSD, since the 6gb RAM upgrade was free.
It's been a few months now, and I still love the laptop. It doesn't move around much, which is why I'm figuring out the best way to hook it to an external monitor with wireless keyboard/mouse. Don't really want a "dock", but moreso just an external monitor to give higher resolutions. -
morx, did you do a clean install on the factory ssd? i love my dv6 and even use it on my chest to watch movies in bed. it feels lighter on me than my old alienware m11x.
-
Well I didn't get much more time to play with it last night due to the packer game being on, but I did get to confirm that changing my cooling from active to passive did affect the fans. Now surprisingly, it had a much bigger impact on temps than i thought (though I'm still leaving the fan off when Internet surfing). Temps with the fan on and light Internet surfing were around 30-32 degrees C. When the fan was off, it jumped up to 44-45 degrees C. I'm surprised at the large jump!! I'm still not worried as complete silence what I want when I check the web, but I'll probably leave it on when doing everything else.
Tomorrow I hope to finally have sc2 up and running so I can let you all know how that runs. -
Well, now it's passed the shipment exception, but still in Shanghai. Of course, it's not going to move an inch today (it being past 4:00 AM in China and all), so I'm betting on it missing it's current target. *sigh* At this point, I kinda want them to just delay delivery to next Friday or Monday. It getting here on any day other than a Monday is completely pointless since I'll only really have time to open it but no time to clean it or make restore disks any other day of the week.
EDIT: Well, actually it might be shipping to Anchorage now. I can only hope... I guess I'll know within two hours.
EDIT 2: I looked up some flights, and now I'm almost certain of it. It's going to Anchorage! (most likely) -
Well Fedex has officially removed my "To be delivered by 1030am" on Fri/27th...it shipped Tuesday(24th) and It looks like I won't see it until possibly Monday(30th) at the earliest if THAT even happens... this after paying 2 day shipping... IMPRESSIVE.
-
You should call in for a refund.
In other news, I was wrong.Based on the departure time of the flight, my laptop just missed it. *sigh* Well, at least it's almost certain to make tomorrow's flight.
-
Wow, if it's going to Anchorage that's great! Anyone know how long it takes to get from Anchorage to delivery, assuming no clearance delays or anything?
I think it's going to be fun on this forum when all of us get our laptops. We can compare and stuff. I dunno. Then again, I might also not be able to do much until the following weekend.
-
EDIT: And it's now confirmed. Mine missed that flight. Now I'm sure I'm going to run into a lot of bad luck with this thing. I 'm gonna go cry my troubles away.
EDIT 2: YES! I WAS WRONG! IT'S IN ANCHORAGE RIGHT NOW! WOOOOOOOO!Attached Files:

Edit: This might even get here Monday if there aren't any delays! I don't think it should take to long to get from Anchorage to here. Actually, it might arrive locally on Monday, but too late for them to deliver.
