Actually, we don't have many benchmarks with that card. You should post some when you get it.![]()

yes, from what i have read thats the average idle temperature for this little monster.

Alright, thanks man. Another quick and nooby question, I'm having the darndest time finding how to make a sig for this forum (I'm new here, obviously), can anyone help?
-
MethodtotheMadness Notebook Evangelist
Lol I had the same question not too long ago. If you go to right above the posts, you'll see a blue bar, and on the farthest left it says "User CP". Click on that, and you'll be presented with a bunch of editing options for your profile.

@ale_119411 My favorite RTS game (I haven't played many, but still) is Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle Earth. It's a great game wether you're a LOTR fan or not. It is, however, pretty old, so the graphics aren't amazing. You should be able to run it on high settings at least.
Question for everyone: SCII is an RTS correct? I know this is a nooby question but I love RTS games and am looking for a new one. Thanks in advance! -
Shure i'll do!
list of things to do when i get my laptop:
Uninstall HP bloatware
Do a partial review
Take some pics
Test any game on it
Run benchmarks
And do a full review -
Dude Wheres My Kill Notebook Enthusiast
Yessir, Starcraft II is indeed an RTS. It's not a nooby question at all; while I personally am not a huge fan of RTS, my friends can't get enough of it and drool over SCII for days on end. Have fun with it!
(Oh, and I looked at the Control Panel for the sig. I still can't find the blasted thing, is there a specific place I should be looking?) -
MethodtotheMadness Notebook Evangelist
Lol wow. According to Fedex, my laptop still hasnt made up here from Newark, NJ, even though I could go there, take a long nap, and come back in the time from when it departed. Lmao.
-
MethodtotheMadness Notebook Evangelist
Thanks! I think I will!
Have you found User CP?
EDIT: Derp. Control Panel is User CP. lmao. Once it takes you to the control panel, on the right you will see mulitple categories. One says "Settings and Options", and the first option is Edit Signature. -
I'm a BIG fan of LOTR, gonna try that game but i'm also looking for more demanding games for the test
-
On the subject of SCII, is there any way to get it for less than $60? That's a ridiculous price, imo, and the whole reason I'm trying to switch to PC gaming is so that I don't have to pay 60 bucks to get a new game!
-
Dude Wheres My Kill Notebook Enthusiast
Thanks Method. I found the User CP (thank god) but for some reason under the "Settings and Options" here's all I get:
Edit Email & Password
Edit Profile
Edit Options
Edit Avatar
Edit Profile Picture
I guess I'm not worthy of a signature haha. -
It might not be showing up for him. I think you need to make "five quality posts" first or something like that.

Hey guys I need your help. I'm currently getting the developer of HP Quickweb to patch a bug in our dv6tse. Please help by commenting on your version of HP Quickweb here.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 pushes both the cpu and gpu to the max, and would be a great game to test. However, it has already been covered in this thread, so you don't really need to do it.
Incase you're wondering, running an i5 and the 5650, people have reported about 40-45 fps on native res and a mixture of medium and high settings, if I remember correctly.
Also, the 5650 can be overclocked to up to 650mhz core clock and 1000mhz memory clock. This gives about a +5fps increase for BF: BC2. -
Dude Wheres My Kill Notebook Enthusiast
I totally agree. The whole point of PC-gaming was to save 10 dollars on releases, but it seems greedy marketers and jacking up the prices to meet those of the console. Shame on them
. I guess one of the few options would be to keep track of the Gamestop website, they periodically have sales on new games/trade-ins or promotional stuff of the sort.
-
Dude Wheres My Kill Notebook Enthusiast
(Double post) yea I think you may be right, although the distinction of a quality post or a regular post leaves a desired explanation lol. I think it corresponds to the "rank", for instance just starting up I'm ranked as "Newbie." Hopefully that and my ability to add a sig will change. Thanks for the help! -
You need to wait until tonight for a server refresh or something like that.
-
Oh that sux....if you did those preorder in the past two months, they were going for 30-40 bucks for awhile using coupons and cashback.
-
Most of the time I have my dv6t hooked up to a monitor and don't even use the notebook's screen.
My question is...if I kept the screen on the notebook closed do I risk damage to the LCD from the fairly warm left palm rest?
Up until this point I have been keeping it about halfway open because of this fear. However my workstation would look a bit sexier with the lid closed completely....
I'm using a Zalman NC2000 cooler. -
I have one of these that Newegg currently has on a killer sale. ($17)
Newegg.com - Microsoft B2P-00011 4 Buttons Tilt Wheel USB Wireless Optical 1000 dpi Mouse
It is slightly smaller than a full size mouse but I find it plenty big enough for everyday use. It also seems fairly durable and has taken a bit of a beating without dieing as it travels with me everywhere. -
Hm. Not bad, though I have big hands which could be an issue. Thanks! I'm going to compile a several options before I decide, though.

I tried a cordless mouse for gaming and found it to be a bad choice. First it seemed to lag a bit, which resulted in me getting killed more often. Second, because gaming is non-stop use I found the battery life was very short compared to normal non-gaming use.
Now I only use corded mouse.
Here is what I'm using:

Get a coupon and final cost about $23 -
The cordless mouse would be for school, since I need as few cords as possible in my bag but I still need a mouse because a trackpad won't work well for some of my work.
-
Cordless is great then. I agree with you on the trackpad, hard to use with some apps.
Also if you got the Bluetooth option that may be an option also. -
For those who have it, does Quickweb always boot before Windows by default? If so, is it easy and risk-free to disable?
-

I bought an HP Wireless Comfort Mobile Mouse with my laptop for $20.39, and thats with rebate for getting it with the laptop. It costs $29.99 on HP's website, however there is a $6 instant rebate which brings it to $23.99. A bunch of reviews for it say that the tracking is terrible, but I just tried it on multiple different surfaces, including my shorts and a sock (lol), and the laser tracking works perfectly. You can get it and read the reviews here: HP Wireless Comfort Mobile Mouse | HP® Official Store
One cool little thing about it is that there is a compartment within the battery compartment for the nano reciever. I don't know if this is standard for wireless mouses, but its pretty cool regardless
EDIT: Another cool thing is that the scrolling wheel thing can be tilted to the right or left for side scrolling. Again, I don't know if this is standard, but it is pretty cool
EDIT 2: Ok one last thing, lol: It's symmetrical, so it can be used by right or left handed people with no discomfort. -
Thanks for the suggestion.
Is it normal sized?
-
I think it always boots first, but it's pretty easy to disable. I think you just have to toggle it off in the BIOS, and there shouldn't be any risk to it either. When I get mine I can confirm this stuff, or someone else can confirm before then.
-
Speaking of which, is your laptop still in Memphis?
Well, I guess I'll find out tomorrow, huh?
-
MethodtotheMadness Notebook Evangelist
It is a little smaller than normal, since its for a laptop. I can try to post a picture if you want, and I'll put it next a quarter for comparison. -
That would be helpful. Thanks in advance!
-
It can be disabled through windows control panel. Pretty painless!
-
Really? That's good to know! Thanks.
I love handing out rep.
-
Yeah, it arrived in Memphis at 2:14 am. I doubt it's going to do anything today since it's Sunday, so it will probably fly to LA tomorrow and be delivered Tuesday.
Thanks. -
Same here. Besides gaming, it is mainly for college. I am a freshman studying Computer Engineering (pre-engineering right now). As far as an external monitor, I plan to hook this computer up to a 26-inch TV while at my dorm. I only plan on getting Dirt2 and Civilization 5. Maybe a shooter.
BTW: My roommate has SCII, and he is addicted to that game. From what he tells me, the game is great, so you'll probably enjoy the free trial. -
FedEx doesn't deliver on weekends, but they still move things around. They still have flights and trucks going out today.
At least, I hope you're wrong. Even though it would only take around two hours for the laptop to get to my house from Newark, I don't think they'd ship directly from there. >_< -
MethodtotheMadness Notebook Evangelist
Argh. I took some pictures with my phone but I can't get it to connect to my computer, so I'm gonna grab a digital camera and retake them. Gimme about 15 min. -
Okay, then.
By the way, is your laptop still in Newark? -
Dude Wheres My Kill Notebook Enthusiast
When you first get your DV6t SE, and after all the initial HP stuff, QuickWeb will be ON by default. So yes, before you even see welcome to Windows, you will have access to QuickWeb. The feature IS easily disabled, and you can simply do this within the QuickWeb loadout itself.
EDIT: Just realized this was already addressed. My bad! -
MethodtotheMadness Notebook Evangelist
Lol who knows where it is. My shipping status was updated to "Departed from fedex location" in Newark, NJ, however its been that way for more than 20 hours. I just hope it gets here tomorrow. -
Huh, I figured they might move stuff Saturday, but not Sunday. Well, hopefully it's flown over here today then.
Anyways, I'm really hoping the screen on this isn't too bad. That's the main thing I'm anxious about.
Hey! I decided to check the shipment status as I was writing this (don't say anything about my attention span), and it departed Memphis at 3:36pm!
Umm. Oh yeah. I also really want to find out how fast the SSD is.
Edit: @ Dude Wheres My Kill: No problem. Any extra info is appreciated.
@ MethodtotheMadness: That's weird. Maybe it just didn't get updated? -
Well, that's odd. I guess we won't know anything until tomorrow. However, If it doesn't get here tomorrow morning, I'm calling FedEx for an explanation. There's no reason for it not to, after all.
-
Ah, I was expecting that it might have left! I checked that flight earlier, but I didn't say anything just in case it didn't get on the flight. Expect it to land around 5:00.
-
MethodtotheMadness Notebook Evangelist
Im also hoping the sreen is good. I'm not expecting Envy 14 Radiance quality/brightness, but it shouldnt be bad for the $1100 I paid.
I can do some speed tests of the ssd when I get mine, but I don't know which tests to run, so if anyone could tell me that would be great
Yea I hope it just didnt get updated. I mean in the time that that status has been the most recent one, I could drive to Newark and back TWICE, so it has to be in my general area by now.
LOL @ your attention span
I'm the same way
-
MethodtotheMadness Notebook Evangelist
Ok here are the pictures. I hope I did it right!
ImageShack Album - 3 images -
Cool. It still might not get here Monday, though, because I think it then has to be processed by my local FedEx place or whatever, right? Which doesn't look like it will happen today. Maybe if it happens Monday morning I will get it Monday afternoon? At least it looks like it won't come any later than Tuesday.
I'm not exactly sure about the SSD stuff, either, but I plan to look around the forums here for what to do. I know there are some SSD threads and guides somewhere. I can post them here when I find them, if you want. Also, the most basic thing is just timing how long it takes to boot.
I've never gotten really into computers before this one, so I'm not sure exactly what to do in general.
Hopefully we can all figure it out.
-
That's actually a great size! Thanks! I'd give you more rep but the board won't let me. xD
I'm really nervous about it not getting here tomorrow. I could really use it for school on Tuesday. Man, I wish I could just drive to Newark myself. It's only two hours away, and that's in traffic! I doubt they'd delay a package for no reason, though. -

Same here
This is my first laptop, and only second functional computer I've ever had, so I'm still pretty new to this stuff
-
I'm with you guys, kinda. This could be considered my fourth computer and second laptop, but those were all shared between the family. This is the first one I actually own!
