Awesome! Glad I could help :D

I'm hoping for Monday aswell. I won't be home tuesday, though my brother will so he could sign for it, but I still want to be there when it comes.

And same about the first computer. My other functional coputer is shared with my family. I do also have a super old dell desktop, but I don't consider it funtional since it takes about 2 minutes just to open the internet. It has an Intel Pentium 4 2.4ghz single core processor, 256 mb of RAM, and an 80gb hdd. Lmfao.

Oh hey, it let me give you rep! :D

I can't think of a single reason for it not to arrive tomorrow. I say we bug HP for discounts if they're late. :p

Haha, I have an old Dell almost just like that! It takes like 15 minutes to boot up and open the internet. Needless to say, I don't use that anymore.

Right now I'm actually using a MacBook. :)

Anyways, I'm trying to switch over to computer gaming from console gaming. Mainly because I don't own my own 360 or PS3 (one of my good friends has both so he lets me borrow one sometimes, and I also go over there to play), and because some of my other friends do PC gaming. There are also some games I would like to play on the PC that aren't on consoles. And, personally, I think it's more convenient to have it all on my laptop.

Yours is getting shipped to LA but going through Memphis?

That makes no sense, it should go through Oakland, CA!

Damn. And I thought my Celeron 800MHz with 128MB RAM was bad. :D

That's good to hear. :) Mine is still in Newark, though. I hope it gets to my local center soon. I want to go to sleep assured that it'll be here tomorrow.

I know it makes no sense it terms of distances. I think they just didn't have a flight to Oakland or wherever on Saturday. Maybe they are flying it from Memphis to Oakland now. And then I guess driving it down to LA. After I found it it was sent to Memphis I remembered that this has happened before with FedEx, where my package went to Memphis first. That was a long time ago, though, so I don't remember exactly what happened next, or if it was being shipped over the weekend or during the week.

If it's on the flight I think it's on, it's going straight to LA.

... Yes, I'm looking at other people's flights now. I know it weird, but at the same time tracking flights in real time is pretty cool.

Hey City Pig you might want to change the "d" word in your post. I don't know what mods consider bad language, but better safe than sorry :)

    What "d" word?

EDIT: Oh, that. If they have a problem, they should have censored it. If it's not censored, then logically it must be fine.

Also, the flight I was tracking just landed, eight35pm.

So the basic problems/complaints I've heard about this laptop are

    1) the screen - 1366x768, I'm not one to really care about resolution mostly because I cant discern one from another when they're not next to each other but what do you guys think about it?

    2) the trackpad - I've seen a couple of instructions on how to fix this dreaded trackpad but if that doesn't work I can always use a mouse. What did y'all do to solve this problem?

    3) Heating on the left side - Since I have yet to actually test mine what have been yall's experiences with this? I almost never have a laptop on my lap so even if this is a significant problem I probably won't ever encounter it.

    X) Anything else I missed, comments, complaints, praises?

I'm really anxious to get to school and open the laptop box but I want to rid myself of any concerns.

P.S. There are a lot of Texans who've bought this laptop +1 with me

Anyway, hows the heat on these laptops, I read that the i7's may actually be running a bit cooler than the i5's is this your experience also? For those who have the i7 is the power brick manageable? I heard its really big as well.

Well I've had my laptop for probably 2 weeks now and it's working pretty well. I've run Battlefield BC2 and bioshock they work great. However there are 2 problems:
    1. I have an f10 key in the place of the f4. Nothing major probably just factory defect.
    2. The sound randomly cuts out after I pause iTunes. I'm not sure if this is caused by the fact that I'm using external speakers or not.

    Advice?

Regarding the "misfit" key, I suggest calling HP. I don't have my laptop yet, but I would assume that the physical keys would be easy to pop out. Regarding the sound cutting off, I believe I read that the latest driver for IDT Audio should fix that issue. Could anyone confirm this? Try the newest driver anyway.

    And here comes the mods...

Here's a funny thing... Owner's threads are ironically for... get this... owners.

So posting your day by day tracking info isn't what these threads are for.

Reminds me of the Envy14 lounge. Things got so out of hand that I had to create a separate thread for posting minute by minute shipping posts. I'm not going to do that for this thread since it's only a few of you doing it.

But going forward, I would appreciate if you would stop cluttering the thread with shipping details. It's not fair to the actual owner's of the notebook who come to discuss more pertinent information.

This is exactly why I don't like mods on any site I go to. There was no need come across in such a rude, smart(you-know-what) way. Just say that you agree and tell us to stop. That's all that it takes, and you don't need to take offense every time someone says the word "mod," then come off in such a tone, and finally attack someone for calling you out on it. (Yes, I know that you are going to turn this around on me.)

Now, technically, we do own the computer because we paid for it. Therefore, unless the rules of the thread specifically say that we can't do this, it's fine to assume we can until specified otherwise. Therefore, it wasn't obvious that we were doing anything wrong. So, instead of putting people down, how about you just say that you agree and then add a note to the first post? Is that really so hard?

And, I know I'm going to get an infraction for this. I don't really care, either, especially since I actually tried to redirect the discussion for a while for the sake of others. You can just go ahead if you want to.

EDIT: Ah, so you editing while I was replying. My point still stands, however, and I still feel that just leaving the thread here to die won't solve anything.

Funny, you were clearing being rude to other posters and when called out about it, you get indignant? Weird. And you even asked a poster to "take it to the mods."

What precisely did you expect would happen?

Anyway, the thread won't die without shipping tweets. Plus it's a sticky thread. So no worries. :)

    And another typical response...

I felt that the complaining was rude, and I offered something constructive. Besides that, I was more blunt than rude. I just think that only mods have the right to give orders.

But whatever. Obviously, I'm wasting my time arguing because you don't care. As I expected, you ignored everything that worked against you. Predictable. I'm sorry for "being rude" and your rudeness is totally justified since two wrongs make a right. Again, I apologize.

Does anyone know if there is a way to have the battery still plugged in to the computer, but have the system run completely on the AC adapter. If this is possible, would the battery be better off being taken out?

    Really? Oh.

Well complaining about offending behavior is not rude. A person is asking/telling you to stop the offending behavior. Your being inconsiderate of that request and what you allege as being "blunt" is what is rude and bad form.

    Haha... wait...

Oh but I do care. Otherwise, I wouldn't have stepped in. I like it best when everyone gets along famously. But every now and again, there's a few bumps in the road that need to be sorted out.

BTW, you should know, that whenever you put "mod" in a post, it's like saying "beetlejuice" three times. :D

Actually, when the battery is fully charged it is running on AC. Moreover, it is running off AC even when charging the battery. The notebook's power supply will simply more current to charge the battery.

Purists like to take the battery out if they plan on running on AC for an extended period of time. The thinking is that it will preserve battery longevity. While it is true that doing this does preserve battery longevity, the gain is practically negligible because there chemistry of the battery is such that it will still lose capacity over time no matter what.

The things that decrease a battery's capacity is the number of charge/discharge cycles and heat. LI-Ion batteries can do around 500 full cycles before dramatically losing capacity. So if you did a cycle per day, your battery would last about 500 days. If you did 1/2 cycles per day (discharge to 50%), the battery would last about 1000 days. But during that 100 days period, the capacity will diminish anyway because of the battery's chemistry is not designed to last much beyond three years.

So in the end, don't concern yourself too much with trying to make your battery last too long. It will die from disuse and well as use.

BTW, here's an excellent battery gauge many like to use: Osiris Development - BatteryBar, the most accurate battery meter for Windows

This argument is clearly more off- topic than the actually shipping discussion itself.

I support the creation of a "Pre-Owners Lounge" or something. It's very hard not to get excited and anxious about shipping, and a collection of the total amount of time it takes to ship in general would be useful. I wouldn't mind leaving it here also, as personally, having read through that part of the Envy 14 thread while looking for info about the laptop itself, it wasn't a big distraction. A collection of info in the first post, like 2.0 did in the Envy 14 thread, would also be extremely helpful, although it is perfectly understandable if nobody has time to do this.

Anyways, can anyone tell me how high they have been able to OC their 5650, and if that allows them to run BFBC2 on higher settings?

Edit: Sorry, my post is a little late. I was typing it on my phone and got interrupted as I was doing so.

I am just concerned because I feel like the battery in my current HP laptop lasted almost nothing. Not only was battery life pretty bad to begin with, but now I can only run the computer for about 25-30 minutes unless I have every setting to the lowest configuration available, in which case I only get about 40-45 minutes.

However, I do admit that I ran this computer under conditions that might not have been favorable for the battery. For example, I have run it on top of pillows, blankets, and other items which obviously retained heat and probably damaged the battery. Overall, I was ignorant regarding batteries back then and simply want to take care of my new laptop.

EDIT: Thanks for the link to the battery meter, the one on my laptop is terrible.

The 5650 can be overclocked to 650mhz core clock and 1000mhz memory clock. It gives about a +5 fps increase for BFBC2.

So does that +5 fps increase allow you to adjust the settings higher, or does it not compensate enough for the fps decrease of higher settings?

Well I dont know for sure, but it seems as though you could increase a not-so-taxing setting and get similar fps as with the non-OCd 5650 and the small setting not increased.

Does overclocking the GPU void the warranty in any way? If so, I don't think an extra 5 FPS is really worth it.

The latest IDT audio driver fixes this problem.

I highly doubt it, but it would be best to check with HP customer support.

    @eight35pm You're very welcome :D

Yes, it does. That is if something happens to your system and they determined that you did. Say, if you admit too it or if when sending it in, you weren't able to set the clocks back and they see that you overclocked it because of the current GPU setting.

No rule against putting an update in your sig. Just make sure you conform to forum rules about sigs. Number of lines, line length, font size, etc.
