Does HP Quickweb now automatically start every time you boot the computer? My current HP system never did that.

So you are saying that the 160 GB SSD that you can get with the laptop is not good as an SSD? Is it a lot slower than an average SSD?

Does the dv6tse current information guide include information as to how to disable this? I've had this HP for a few years, and I have never used HP Quickplay or any of its related applications. I don't plan to use it on the new system either.

There is an option to turn it off, in either the quickweb or in the hp mediasmart. Or uninstall it

I don't remember much cause I only used it once and did a clean wipe the next week.

Since we're talking about HP Quickweb...do you have ANY "protection" so to speak i.e. anti-virus using QW since you're not really fully booting your OS?

It can be disabled through Windows very easily. You just need to find the program and manually disable it in the settings.

This computer takes a very long time to load the desktop. I disabled the unnecessary start-up programs, so I have no idea why.

None nor needed, just simple browsing discretion.
QW is actually a separate os.

What is your boot time? And just how much stuff have disabled at start-up?

By the way, computer just made it to Anchorage 20 minutes ago. How long do you guys think it will take from there to my door (aka college mail room)?

@estepor mine got to Anchorage, AK on August 25th at 4:16 PM (not sure if that is the time there or here on the east coast), and got to my door on August 30th, around 10 AM my time.

I have been debating that these last few days. The only issues that make me doubt about doing a clean install:
    1. I purchased MS Office 2010, and don't want to risk losing it. (Is there a guide to back this up and the registration key?)
    2. I am worried about screwing things up (drivers).

As to my shipping, my estimated delivery date is September 2 @ noon. Is it reasonable to estimate that it'll make it from Anchorage (arrived there today at 1:00 PM in Alaska's time zone) to Alabama by Sept 2?

Well, I haven't uninstalled that many programs, so that may be why. Still, I'm looking at start-up times of up to 2 minutes (to get to the desktop).

    @ estepor91

HP Quickweb started when I first restarted my computer, it also gave me an option to select it as the primary start-up or to go straight to regular windows. I also Uninstalled Quickweb as my machine boots up from completely shut down, to loading the login, registering my fingerprint, letting me click on Firefox and loading my google page in about 25 seconds... Why would I care about less than half a minute for a fully functional OS? :)

Also there is a Fresh out of the box guide located in the guide in my signature. or you can look around this thread, it's been posted many times.

That's also weird. Two minutes seems long, although I'm not sure how long HDDs are supposed to take. I've read of times under a minute, but I'm not sure exactly what they are measuring (i.e. to desktop, or to something earlier). Maybe try a minimized image recovery if you don't want to do a clean install. It asks you if you want to back up your stuff beforehand, so if you have already put a lot of stuff on your computer, this will still work, I believe. It installs all the drivers and stuff, so you don't have to worry about the hassles of a clean install as well. It doesn't get rid of Hp Mediasmart, which I think is really the only bloatware it leaves behind, so you have to manually uninstall that.

    Here's the guide I used: http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-...-owners-lounge-part-deux-273.html#post6590288

@eight35pm Wow I'm dumb. I get the same hollow not-put-in-correctly sound on my touchpad that you describe. I at first though u were talking about the two clickable buttons lmao. Fail :p

EDIT: However, I haven't experienced the problems you have with the cursor jumping around.

1:05 with an HDD is fine for me as well. By the way, what is CCleaner? Is that like PCDecrapifier?

Also, my system now shows as "in transit" from Anchorage (it took 2 hours). Does that mean that it is headed for Memphis now?

Basically, it cleans your drive and registry of unnecessary files which may be slowing it down.

If it has gone through customs already (meaning passed the "Int'l shipment release" status), then it might be, though I think it usually would say that it has "Departed FedEx location" of something like that if it were on the plane.

Huh, that's weird. I just restarted my computer after updating my video drivers, and now the touchpad is working much, much better. Two-finger scrolling still doesn't always register, but scrolling actually works now, and the cursor has stopped jumping around all the time.

so this is day 2 of using my DV6 w/ intel i7 and I'm concerned about how hot it gets during gameplay.

While playing Battlefield 2 at LOW settings the CPU averages around 90C. I can smell and feel the heat, and of course it travels through the metal chassis...the heat feels uncomfortable where my left hand rests to the left of the touchpad. I can also feel the heat through the keyboard when resting my fingers on the W A S D keys.

I've read that once the thermal paste burns in it should improve a bit...I'm coming from a 2 1/2 yr old Alienware M15X that didnt have any heating issues like this and also handled BF2 just fine.

I just installed the latest 8.762 ATI driver today..

now that the game has been minimized for 10 mins temps are down to the low 70s...but it still feels warm where my left hand rests. I wish they would have designed this laptop to where the heat vents out through the rear of the laptop and not the left side :\

I'll decide within two weeks whether or not I'll return it.

Huh, after messing around with my touchpad settings, it has started being jumpy again, although nowhere near as bad as before. It remains this way even after I change back my settings. I'll restart again later and see if this fixes it again.

By the way, my temps while downloading a couple things and doing light web browsing are 42-43°C for one CPU core, 45-46°C for the other, and 50-51°C for the GPU. The left palm rest is slightly warm, but I don't really notice it unless I think about it. My computer is also only 2 days old.

Edit: This is with an i5-450m, and on the "High Performance" power setting.

If you're concerned about temps while doing casual stuff, try using the "Power Saver" power plan. I get in the mid to high 30s on one core and in the mid to high 20s on the other like this. (Granted, this is in a cool room.)

and you have an i7? Core Temp is showing that my lowest temp is 65C, wth..

all I'm doing right now is browsing and all 4 cores are in the high 60s

wow....so I just lifted my laptop off my bed and just held it in the air...within 20 seconds the 4 core temps dropped to the high 50s. interesting. I guess I need to put it on a solid surface that doesnt absorb the heat like a bed would

I was just posting my temps as a reference because erroneus made me curious, but, thanks, I'll see what the Power Saver power plan does out of curiousity, too.

Sorry, I knew I forgot something. I have an i5-450m. Also, yeah, putting the laptop on a bed or soft surface like that will really heat it up.

I'm using hwmonitor, that's what I've seen most people here use, and it was recommended in a couple guides on here.

CPUID - System & hardware benchmark, monitoring, reporting

As for fan settings, you might have to go into the BIOS, but I'm not sure about this.

Hey guys, it's my last two questions before deciding whether to buy this laptop or not :)
    1. Is the SSD worth the money? Is it noticeable faster than an 7200 RPM HDD? How good is it comparing to other SSDs in the market?
    2. What about the built quality? anybody had some problems like half of the owners of the first generation ENVYs? HP is a brand known by the built quality of their laptops, but unfortunately, not for good... more than a half of their laptops cannot make it even for a year :S... So are there any known issues about this?
Thanks to anybody that answers and hep me decide...

    No problem!

So with Power Saver, my temps are high 30s/low 40s for my CPU and mid-high 40s for my GPU. This is after I finished downloading stuff, so just internet.

With High Performance, my temps are just a couple degrees higher.

Oh, and I like the touchpad when it's working for me. It's actually pretty good. The only thing is that it doesn't recognize scrolling upwards with two-finger scrolling as well as scrolling downwards.

Whoa, when I was typing this, I just noticed some keyboard flex, all over the keyboard. I swear I didn't have this before, as I checked when I first opened it. Can you guys try pressing down on your keys? I have to press harder than I press while typing for it to flex a good amount, but not too hard. Also, I can see the flex when typing.

I have the sdd, with the rest of my specs in my signature. It takes just over 30 seconds from shutdown to where I can put in my fingerprint and log on. By now, I've only uninstalled hp quickweb, and run CCleaner. So the ssd is very fast. I'll run CCleaner again and then time the boot in a second.

The build quality is outstanding. Even the plastic on the bottom feels and is very sturdy. There is some flex in the keyboard, but its unnoticeable when typing normally.

Just ask if you have any particular questions about the build quality. I'm using the laptop right now, and would be happy to help :D

46% battery after 2 hours with min brightness and wi-fi on. Pretty good, I'd say, but the high-cap 6-cell would be a good investment.

    Some random things:
    - As someone mentioned earlier in this thread, the screen is a little washed out. Its not terrbile, but I will be messing with the color settings to see if I can make it look better
    - Also as a couple people mentioned earlier, the dvd drive does vibrate a little. Its not very notieable though, and I don't find it annoying at all

EDIT: Well I messed the color settings a couple times, and I did get it to look better. I lowered the blue, and also reduced the gamma a little bit. Its not at the quality of my desktop monitor (which is an HP w1858), but its better than the factory settings.

Yes, regular 6-cell, and no, I'm not using any energy-saving programs.

Also, boot time is at about 45 seconds, plus another 10 or so to load the desktop.

If you find settings that make the screen look better, could you please post them? The screen is ok, but I would really prefer better. Also, I can also confirm that the DVD drive vibrates, but it's barely anything.

Also, I'm on battery right now and Power Saver settings with the lowest brightness, with just the internet open, and now my temps for one core are mid to high 20s, and the other is low 30s, so that's really nice. If anyone has figured out how to turn the fan off, I'd really like to know. I'll can try to find out how to later as well, but I'm really busy.

And, according to BatteryBar, I'm getting a discharge rate 11,731 mW, and the battery has a total capacity of 54,259 mWh, so my battery should last 4.6 hours. Oh, I have Wi-Fi on, but Bluetooth off. I haven't had my computer on battery much yet, so I'm not sure how accurate this is.

Finally, I downloaded Alien Swarm off Steam yesterday and played a little bit. there were a lot of fuzzy white dots, mainly noticeable on the darker areas, kinda like static. Anyone know why this is? I haven't really done any gaming on a PC before, and I didn't have time to mess around with the settings, so it might just be something really simple. Whatever it is, if anyone could tell me how to make it go away, I'd really appreciate it. Oh, is this happening to anyone else?

    Thanks.

I have tried it for the past couple of weeks on my old HP. While I have not taken the time to actually measure the battery's performance (might be doing that if I am really bored this weekend), I do believe that there is a slight gain in battery life.

Love the sig by the way. "Dividing by zero since 1971."

so how do I make my F keys default? as in when I press F3 I want that key to act as F3...if I want to change brightness I'd rather hold down the Fn key

It took me 2 days to figure this out, but go into your power management and go under the profile you are using. Then go to advanced options. Under those advanced options should be a setting called "processor power management" and a plus sign next to "system cooling policy" Maximise that, and under battery and/or ac power, select active instead of passive. That should do the trick.

I haven't tried it on my DV5. I find undervolting does a good job. Supposin' I should give it a shot on that.

However, with the inability to undervolt the i-core processors, many were hoping that the Granola program would be a worthy substitute. Though, these processors (specifically i3 and i5) are pretty efficient. Might account for why Granola has a minimal impact if any when used on i-core notebooks.

Haha. Thanks. Yeah, that's how I roll. :twitchy:
