Well, that's odd. I'll test it when I get home. I'm sure that shouldn't be happening, though...

On an unrelated note, now a bunch of programs (Windows Live Messenger, AIM, Firefox 4 Beta, just to name a few) crash on Intel graphics. It's weird, and I can't find a solution. Any ideas, guys? I might have to reinstall them.

Okay, thanks guys, I'll try again. This may be a dumb question, but is there a way to essentially wipe any drivers with the HD 5650? And if anybody could be so kind as to send me a link of the newest compatible drivers? That may be the culprit.

Citypig, you sure you didn't try playing on the igpu? When I ran MOH beta it ran at least 30fps. Sometimes I forget to turn on the 5650 lol.

You don't have any issues running programs on the IGP, do you?

Weird, I just tried it again. This time with the integrated Intel first (let the lols ensue) and then the HD 5650. Oddly enough, when I set both to LOW, they both performed rather poorly, and yet dare I say it the Intel performed slightly better. I didn't even bother putting the Intel to the highest settings, but the 5650 on highest settings was unquestionably unplayable. I honestly don't know what else to try...

Hello guys, just wanted to stop back and report a few things. Overall, my dv6t has been working out great. I use it mostly for school work and watching tv shows.

I did encounter a slight problem however. I tried watching always sunny on intel graphics, and it made VLC media player lock up. The tv show was in 720p, but I would still think the intel graphics would be able to handle it. I switched to ATI graphics and the problem went away. Nevertheless, I thought it was strange. Has anyone experienced similar problems?

The Radeon driver provided by HP is a later version than the official driver.

The Intel HD can handle pretty well on 1080 blueray streams.
Then again... it runs surprisingly well, imo.

Falco, where can I find this official driver? (direct link = sweet). It's compatible with switchable graphics notebooks?

I know this sounds stupid, and yes, it is indeed a stupid question that you already answered, but just to clarify...the Driver link you gave me (the same one off the thread) is indeed compatible with switchable graphics?

Ok, now this sucks/is weird. I tried updating the driver, but every time I tried it still showed version 8.692.1.0, dated 1/22/10. The one from HP is 8.752.1.0 dated 8/26/10. I even tried uninstalling the previous driver, and it showed me the same exact driver version. I must be doing something wrong...the game still plays like crap though.

Yeah, that's the same issue I had. The problem is that Windows 7 automatically installs the old driver after you uninstall it and restart. It's really stupid. You have to delete a file for it to work. Unfortunately, I forgot the exact file, and even then I had trouble finding it the first time. Someone here should know the file, though, so just wait and you'll get your answer.

I dont if this works but how I used to do this for nvidia cards I would uninstall the software then go into the device mgr. Uninstall the card but never reboot. Install the new drivers and then reboot

My order arrived today, and I've been messing with it for the last few hours. I really hate that touchpad, and I'm pretty sure now I'm going to return it mostly because of it. Just two questions before I do that:
    1. Do the super stiff buttons on the touchpad get softer with use?
    2. Is there any way to make a middle click? I really can't live without my middle click.

Using a mouse with a laptop is not an option since it defeats the purpose of portability. There's a reason it's called a laptop.

I can only answer number one, but my touchpads buttons have not gotten any softer which I like sort of. And, I carry around my g700 mouse with me and use it at school even when I'm not sitting at a table. But really, the touchpad is hit or miss. If you can't live with it, I'd return it I guess.

i thought the touchpad was crap. then i realized it was my hands. I work on a car a lot so my hands were always dry from washing. got me some nice not greasy lotion. also its best to not have dry hands when you work on a computer. you are more likely to create static discharge when your skin is dry as well. the touch pad works great if i ever need to use it. I use a mouse most of the time, even when i travel but the pad works great when my hands arent feeling like sand paper. its touch static sensitive. kinda like a captive touch screen. so if the touch of your fingers dont make a good conduction it performs like sh*t.

OK I made some research and found this. For the middle click, there are few solutions:
    1. An awesome AutoHotkey script that simulates a middle click (it just sits harmlessly in the taskbar): Helpful Tip: Middle-Click on a Touchpad Laptop Mouse
    2. Assign the left button to middle click in synaptic, and use the tap feature to left click.
    3. Get the instaClick Firefox add-on which assigns the middle click in Firefox to some mouse button you define.
    4. Download the synaptic driver from Dell. I'm not sure if that would work at all, I haven't tried, but Dell's Synaptic drivers do offer middle clicks through Right click + Left click together.

Unfortunately the hp Synaptic driver doesn't even offer assigning a "tap zone" to a middle click. The touchpad is also a little jumpy too. But I'm gonna give it a chance, play around with the settings, and see if I get accustomed to it.

On a side note, why does the laptop get warm at the left front corner underneath your left palm? Is that where the graphics card is located or something?

Yes I think thats where it is located..If you have the i5 you can try the HD graphics, I think it makes the palm rest cooler..

And on a side-note, I'm pretty sure this long thread has some talk about some script on google which helped with the middle mouse..Look for it if its really that big an issue..Personally, I never liked touchpads :D I use them as a last resort

    Good luck

Graphics card is located near the caps lock/ tab key, but I imagine the heat radiates from the gpu to the palm rest area. Wish I could add more heat pipes or something to dissipate and transfer the heat better.

Ok, I try to make this simple. Just to be sure its gone.

This method, I commonly use to handle ATI driver problems

First Uninstall AMD, select express...this should remove all most recent version.
    Reboot
Run Driver Sweeper, Check ATI Drivers
    Reboot
Install HP AMD Radeon Driver, also select CCC
    Reboot
    ?????
    Profit

    Good Luck

Here's a Registry Key that will let you enable Middle Click by clicking Left and Right at the same time. I got it from my old Dell Inspirion years ago. I have used it on my old DV6000 and new dv6tse.

Copy the following into Notepad and save with a .reg extension and then double click the file to add to the registry. Restart the computer and you will have the option for middle click like the Dells.

Thanks kdogg, but i downloaded the Dell Studio Synaptic driver and it had middle click and frankly was less jumpy. The driver directly from Synaptic's site is also better, featuring tap zones, although does not have middle click. I'm over that now, I even bypass clicking the buttons altogether by using tap zones, which are much better.

What is concerning me now is that the touchpad seems to be getting loose. On the front side, I can feel it's bumping out and I can see some space between the actual touchpad and the metal. I don't know, I'm still not sold by this laptop, still considering to return it. I mean my rugged Dell is 3.5 years old and I still don't feel much of a change or improvement in the overall experience. It's certainly not a $1000+ worth of a change. It could be the screen or the speakers or even the keyboard, I don't know...

Just got my laptop... Is there anything special that I need to do to get the eSata port to work..? I have an eSata/USB 2.0 external HD and it would not recognize it. Been using this external HD for yrs with my old laptop without problem.

    Here is what I've tried:
-USB only in all the ports including the eSata/USB port works
-eSata in eSata/USB port and using another USB port for power does not work
-eSata in eSata/USB port and using external AC power does not work

Is there a switch or something that I'm missing..? I gave HP a call, but was online for about 2hr with someone that barely speaks English and shouldn't be working in the Tech Support department. He suggested that I pay $50 something for their premium tech support. !!!???

Any help what be greatly appreciated. Thanks...

My order has been in production for a week now :( I think it really is going to take until the 12th for it to ship. Does anyone think that it's taking a while because I order a day or two before HP switched the Intel processors available for the dv6tse? I got an i5-450M in mine.

    Same thing happened to me.

I had three optional updates in the most recent Windows Update.
    1.) Synaptics - Input - Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad
2.) Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P. - Other hardware - HP Mobile Data Protection Sensor
3.) Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (related to SD card usage)

I installed all three at the same time, restarted and my disable zone is now working again. Obviously the first one almost certainly fixed the issue by itself but didn't want to give the impression that's the only I action I took.

For me, the installation of the new driver (since uninstalling ATI before-hand completely removed the ATI CCC) also installed the CCC without me having to visit the website itself.

Everything except the bottom, the keyboard, the bezel, and the touchpad is aluminum, and it does feel like aluminum (how could it not feel like aluminum?).

I don't have the touchscreen, but I'm almost positive it's capacitive. In fact, doesn't it have to be capacitive to support multitouch?

You could maybe manage over 4 hours.

The 450m works just fine for everything that I do. Might consider going up to a 580m though some day.

Hey guys! Its been a while.

I remember a ways back on here someone had posted a link to software that would tell me the temp/speeds of my processor, and I could even have it display them in my toolbar. Could that person tell me the name of it, or even post the link to it again? I've forgotten what it was, and I dont have my dv6tse anymore so I cant check it.
